1Και έκαμον οι κάτοικοι της Ιερουσαλήμ αντ' αυτού βασιλέα Οχοζίαν τον νεώτερον αυτού υιόν· διότι πάντας τους πρεσβυτέρους εθανάτωσαν τα τάγματα τα επελθόντα μετά των Αράβων εις το στρατόπεδον. Και εβασίλευσεν Οχοζίας ο υιός του Ιωράμ βασιλέως του Ιούδα. 2Τεσσαράκοντα δύο ετών ηλικίας ήτο ο Οχοζίας ότε εβασίλευσεν, εβασίλευσε δε εν έτος εν Ιερουσαλήμ· το δε όνομα της μητρός αυτού ήτο Γοθολία, θυγάτηρ του Αμρί. 3Και αυτός περιεπάτησεν εν ταις οδοίς του οίκου Αχαάβ· διότι η μήτηρ αυτού ήτο σύμβουλος αυτού εις το αμαρτάνειν. 4Και έπραξε πονηρά ενώπιον του Κυρίου, καθώς ο οίκος Αχαάβ· διότι μετά τον θάνατον του πατρός αυτού, αυτοί ήσαν οι σύμβουλοι αυτού διά τον αφανισμόν αυτού. 5Και διά των συμβουλών αυτών υπήγε μετά του Ιωράμ υιού του Αχαάβ βασιλέως του Ισραήλ, εις πόλεμον εναντίον του Αζαήλ βασιλέως της Συρίας εις Ραμώθ-γαλαάδ· και επάταξαν οι Σύριοι τον Ιωράμ. 6Και επέστρεψε διά να ιατρευθή εις Ιεζραέλ, εξ αιτίας των πληγών τας οποίας έλαβεν εν Ραμά, ότε επολέμει κατά του Αζαήλ βασιλέως της Συρίας. Και κατέβη Αζαρίας ο υιός του Ιωράμ, ο βασιλεύς του Ιούδα, διά να ίδη Ιωράμ τον υιόν του Αχαάβ εις Ιεζραέλ, επειδή ήτο άρρωστος. 7Και εστάθη παρά Θεού όλεθρος του Οχοζίου το να έλθη προς τον Ιωράμ· διότι, ότε ήλθεν, εξήλθε μετά του Ιωράμ εναντίον Ιηού του υιού του Νιμσί, τον οποίον έχρισεν ο Κύριος διά να εξολοθρεύση τον οίκον Αχαάβ. 8Και ότε έκαμνεν ο Ιηού την εκδίκησιν κατά του οίκου Αχαάβ, ευρών τους άρχοντας του Ιούδα και τους υιούς των αδελφών του Οχοζίου, τους υπηρετούντας τον Οχοζίαν, εθανάτωσεν αυτούς. 9Και εζήτησε τον Οχοζίαν· και συνέλαβον αυτόν κρυπτόμενον εν Σαμαρεία και έφεραν αυτόν προς τον Ιηού· και εθανάτωσαν αυτόν και έθαψαν αυτόν· διότι είπον, Υιός του Ιωσαφάτ είναι, όστις εξεζήτησε τον Κύριον εξ όλης της καρδίας αυτού. Και ο οίκος Οχοζίου δεν είχε δύναμιν να κρατήση πλέον την βασιλείαν. 10Η δε Γοθολία, η μήτηρ του Οχοζίου, ιδούσα ότι ο υιός αυτής απέθανεν, εσηκώθη και εξωλόθρευσεν άπαν το βασιλικόν σπέρμα του οίκου Ιούδα. 11Ιωσαβεέθ όμως, η θυγάτηρ του βασιλέως, λαβούσα τον Ιωάς υιόν του Οχοζίου, έκλεψεν αυτόν εκ του μέσου των υιών του βασιλέως των θανατουμένων, και έβαλεν αυτόν και την τροφήν αυτού εν τω ταμείω του κοιτώνος. Ούτως η Ιωσαβεέθ, η θυγάτηρ του βασιλέως Ιωράμ, η γυνή Ιωδαέ του ιερέως, διότι ήτο αδελφή του Οχοζίου, έκρυψεν αυτόν από προσώπου της Γοθολίας, και δεν εθανάτωσεν αυτόν. 12Και ήτο μετ' αυτών κρυπτόμενος εν τω οίκω του Θεού εξ έτη· η δε Γοθολία εβασίλευεν επί της γης.

1The inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place; for the band of men who came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned. 2Forty-two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri. 3He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab; for his mother was his counselor to do wickedly. 4He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, as did the house of Ahab; for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction. 5He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead: and the Syrians wounded Joram. 6He returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which they had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick. 7Now the destruction of Ahaziah was of God, in that he went to Joram: for when he had come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom Yahweh had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab. 8When Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab, he found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brothers of Ahaziah, serving Ahaziah, and killed them. 9He sought Ahaziah, and they caught him (now he was hiding in Samaria), and they brought him to Jehu, and killed him; and they buried him, for they said, “He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought Yahweh with all his heart.” The house of Ahaziah had no power to hold the kingdom. 10Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal seed of the house of Judah. 11But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were slain, and put him and his nurse in the bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah, so that she didn’t kill him. 12He was with them hidden in God’s house six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.

1En de inwoners van Jeruzalem maakten Ahazia, zijn kleinsten zoon, koning in zijn plaats; want een bende, die met de Arabieren in het leger gekomen was, had al de eersten gedood. Ahazia dan, de zoon van Joram, de koning van Juda, regeerde. 2Twee en veertig jaar was Ahazia oud, toen hij koning werd, en hij regeerde een jaar te Jeruzalem; en de naam zijner moeder was Athalia, een dochter van Omri. 3Hij wandelde ook in de wegen van het huis van Achab; want zijn moeder was zijn raadgeefster, om goddelooslijk te handelen. 4En hij deed dat kwaad was in de ogen des HEEREN, gelijk het huis van Achab; want zij waren zijn raadgevers, na den dood zijns vaders, hem ten verderve. 5Hij wandelde ook in hun raad, en toog henen met Joram, den zoon van Achab, den koning van Israel, tot den strijd tegen Hazael, den koning van Syrie, bij Ramoth in Gilead; en de Syriers sloegen Joram. 6En hij keerde weder om zich te laten genezen te Jizreel; want hij had wonden, die men hem bij Rama geslagen had, als hij streed tegen Hazael, den koning van Syrie; en Azarja, de zoon van Joram, den koning van Juda, kwam af, om Joram, den zoon van Achab, te Jizreel te bezien, want hij was krank. 7De vertreding nu van Ahazia was van God, dat hij tot Joram kwam; want als hij gekomen was, toog hij met Joram uit tot Jehu, den zoon van Nimsi, denwelken de HEERE gezalfd had, om het huis van Achab uit te roeien. 8Zo geschiedde het, als Jehu het oordeel uitvoerde tegen het huis van Achab, dat hij de vorsten van Juda en de zonen der broederen van Ahazia, die Ahazia dienden, vond, en die doodde. 9Daarna zocht hij Ahazia, en zij kregen hem (want hij was verstoken in Samaria), en zij brachten hem tot Jehu, en zij doodden hem, en begroeven hem; want zij zeiden: Hij is de zoon van Josafat, die den HEERE met zijn ganse hart gezocht heeft. Zo had het huis van Ahazia niemand, die kracht behield tot het koninkrijk. 10Toen Athalia, de moeder van Ahazia, zag, dat haar zoon dood was, zo maakte zij zich op, en bracht al het koninklijke zaad van het huis van Juda om. 11Maar Jozabath, de dochter des konings, nam Joas, den zoon van Ahazia, en stal hem uit het midden van des konings zonen, die gedood werden, en zette hem en zijn voedster in een slaapkamer; zo verborg hem Jozabath, de dochter van den koning Joram, de huisvrouw van den priester Jojada (want zij was de zuster van Ahazia), voor Athalia, dat zij hem niet doodde. 12En hij was bij hen verstoken in het huis Gods zes jaren; en Athalia regeerde over het land.
