1A-cha được hai mươi tuổi khi người lên ngôi làm vua; người cai trị mười sáu năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, chẳng làm điều thiện trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va y như Ða-vít, tổ phụ người, đã làm; 2nhưng người đi theo đường lối của các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, lại cũng làm những hình tượng đúc cho thần Ba-anh, 3đốt hương trong trũng con Hi-nôm, và thiêu con cái mình nơi lửa, theo sự gớm ghiếc của các dân tộc mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã đuổi khỏi trước mặt dân Y-đơ-ra-ên. 4Người dâng của lễ và xông hương trên các nơi cao, trên các gò nổng và dưới các cây rậm. 5Vì vậy, Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời người phó người vào tay vua Sy-ri; quân Sy-ri đánh được người, bắt trong dân người rất nhiều phu tù, và dẫn về Ða-mách, Người cũng bị phó vào tay của Y-sơ-ra-ên, làm cho người phải thất trận cả thể. 6Vả, Phê-ca, con trai của Rê-ma-lia, giết trong một ngày mười hai vạn người Giu-đa, thảy đều là người mạnh dạn; bởi vì chúng đã lìa bỏ Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ mình. 7Xiếc-ri, một người mạnh dạn ở đất Ép-ra-im, giết Ma-a-xê-gia, con trai vua, A-ri-kham, quan cai cung vua, và Eân-ca-na, quan tể tướng. 8Người Y-sơ-ra-ên bắt trong anh em mình hai mươi vạn phu tù, cả đờn bà, con trai, con gái; cũng cướp lấy nhiều của cải mà đem về Sa-ma-ri. 9Ở tại đó, có một đấng tiên tri của Ðức Giê-hô-va, tên là Ô-đết, đi ra đón đạo binh đang trở về Sa-ma-ri, mà nói rằng: Nầy bởi vì Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ các ngươi nổi giận cùng Giu-đa, nên Ngài đã phó chúng vào tay các ngươi, các ngươi có giết chúng trong cơn căm giận dữ quá đến đỗi thấu đến trời. 10Bây giờ, các ngươi lại toan bắt phục các người Giu-đa và người Giê-ru-sa-lem làm tôi trai tớ gái cho các ngưi sao! Còn về các ngươi, các ngươi há chẳng có phạm tội cùng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa trời của các ngươi sao? 11Vậy bây giờ, khá nghe ta, cho về những phu tù mà các ngươi đã bắt trong anh em các ngươi vì cơn giận của Ðức Giê-hô-va nổi phừng cùng các ngươi. 12Khi ấy, có mấy người trong các quan trưởng của dân Ép-ra-im, là A-xa-ria, con trai của Giô-ha-nan, Bê-rê-kia, con trai của mê-si-lê-mốt, Ê-xê-chia, con trai của Sa-lum, và A-ma-sa con trai của Hát-lai, đều đứng dậy nghịch cùng những kẻ đi đánh giặc trở về, mà rằng: 13Các ngươi chớ đem những phu tù vào đây; vì các ngươi toan làm điều gây cho chúng ta mắc tội cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va, đặng gia thêm vào tội và ác của chúng ta; vì tội lỗi chúng ta thật lớn và Chúa nổi giận phừng phừng cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên 14Quân lính bèn thả các phu tù và bỏ của cải tại trước mặt các quan trưởng và cả hội chúng. 15Những người đã kể tên trước đây, bèn chổi dậy, dẫn các phu tù ra, lấy của cướp mặc cho các người trong họ bị trần truồng; chúng mặc quần áo và mang giày cho họ, cho ăn, uống, và xức dầu cho, cùng để những người yếu đuối cỡi lừa, rồi đưa họ về cùng anh em mình, đến Giê-ri-cô, thành cây chà là; đoạn chúng trở về Sa-ma-ri. 16Trong lúc đó, vua A-cha sai sứ đi cầu vua A-si-ri tiếp cứu mình 17Vì dân Ê-đôm đã trở lại đánh Giu-đa và bắt dẫn những phu tù về. 18Dân Phi-li-tin cũng xông vào các thành tại xứ đồng bằng và tại miền nam xứ Giu-đa, chiếm lấy Bết-sê-mết, A-gia-lôn, Ghê-đê-rốt, Sô-cô, và các làng địa hạt nó, Thim-na và các làng địa hạt nó, Ghim-xô và các làng địa hạt nó, rồi chúng nó ở tại các nơi ấy. 19Bởi cớ A-cha, vua Giu-đa, Ðức Giê-hô-va có hạ Giu-đa xuống, vì A-cha đã xui cho dân Giu-đa buông tuồng, và phạm tội nặng cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va. 20Tiếc-lát Phim-nê-se, vua A-si-ri, đến cùng người, và hà hiếp người, song chẳng tiếp cứu chút nào. 21A-cha thâu lấy những đồ nơi đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va, trong cung vua, và trong nhà các quan trưởng, rồi giao vật ấy cho vua A-si-ri; song người cũng không tiếp cứu. 22Trong cơn hoạn nạn, vua A-cha lại càng phạm tội cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va; 23người cúng tế các thần của dân Ða-mách, là dân đã đánh mình; người nói rằng: Bởi vì các thần của vua Sy-ri đã phù trợ họ, nên ta sẽ cúng tế các thần ấy, hầu cho các thần ấy cũng phù trợ ta nữa. Song le chúng nó gây cho vua và cả Y-sơ-ra-ên phải sa ngã. 24A-cha góp lấy các khí dụng của đền Ðức Chúa Trời, đập bể nó ra, và đóng các cửa đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va; đoạn lập lấy cho mình những bàn thờ trong mỗi nơi xó góc của thành Giê-ru-sa-lem. 25Trong các thành xứ Giu-đa, người dựng lên những nơi cao đặng xông hương cho các thần khác mà chọc giận Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ người. 26Vả, các chuyện khác của người, thói ăn cách ở người từ đầu đến cuối, đều chép trong sách các vua Giu-đa và Y-sơ-ra-ên. 27A-cha an giấc cùng tổ phụ mình, và người ta chôn người trong thành Giê-ru-sa-lem; song không để người nơi lăng tẩm các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên. Ê-xê-chia con trai người, cai trị thế cho người.
1Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign; and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: and he didn’t do that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, like David his father; 2but he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for the Baals. 3Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom Yahweh cast out before the children of Israel. 4He sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree. 5Therefore Yahweh his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they struck him, and carried away of his a great multitude of captives, and brought them to Damascus. He was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with a great slaughter. 6For Pekah the son of Remaliah killed in Judah one hundred twenty thousand in one day, all of them valiant men; because they had forsaken Yahweh, the God of their fathers. 7Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah the king’s son, and Azrikam the ruler of the house, and Elkanah who was next to the king. 8The children of Israel carried away captive of their brothers two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much plunder from them, and brought the plunder to Samaria. 9But a prophet of Yahweh was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out to meet the army that came to Samaria, and said to them, “Behold, because Yahweh, the God of your fathers, was angry with Judah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage which has reached up to heaven. 10Now you purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for male and female slaves for yourselves. Aren’t there even with you trespasses of your own against Yahweh your God? 11Now hear me therefore, and send back the captives, that you have taken captive from your brothers; for the fierce wrath of Yahweh is on you.” 12Then some of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against those who came from the war, 13and said to them, “You shall not bring in the captives here: for you purpose that which will bring on us a trespass against Yahweh, to add to our sins and to our trespass; for our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.” 14So the armed men left the captives and the plunder before the princes and all the assembly. 15The men who have been mentioned by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the plunder clothed all who were naked among them, dressed them, gave them sandals, and gave them something to eat and to drink, anointed them, carried all the feeble of them on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria. 16At that time king Ahaz sent to the kings of Assyria to help him. 17For again the Edomites had come and struck Judah, and carried away captives. 18The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the lowland, and of the South of Judah, and had taken Beth Shemesh, and Aijalon, and Gederoth, and Soco with its towns, and Timnah with its towns, Gimzo also and its towns: and they lived there. 19For Yahweh brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he had dealt wantonly in Judah, and trespassed severely against Yahweh. 20Tilgath Pilneser king of Assyria came to him, and distressed him, but didn’t strengthen him. 21For Ahaz took away a portion out of Yahweh’s house, and out of the house of the king and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria: but it didn’t help him. 22In the time of his distress, he trespassed yet more against Yahweh, this same king Ahaz. 23For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus, which struck him; and he said, “Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, so I will sacrifice to them, that they may help me.” But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel. 24Ahaz gathered together the vessels of God’s house, and cut in pieces the vessels of God’s house, and shut up the doors of Yahweh’s house; and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem. 25In every city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and provoked to anger Yahweh, the God of his fathers. 26Now the rest of his acts, and all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. 27Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem; for they didn’t bring him into the tombs of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his place.

En hij werd ook gegeven in de hand des konings van Israel, die hem sloeg met een groten slag. 6Want Pekah, de zoon van Remalia, sloeg in Juda honderd en twintig duizend dood op een dag, allen strijdbare mannen, omdat zij den HEERE, den God hunner vaderen, verlaten hadden. 7En Zichri, een geweldig man van Efraim, sloeg Maaseja, den zoon des konings, dood, en Azirkam, den huisoverste, mitsgaders Elkana, den tweede na den koning. 8En de kinderen Israels voerden van hun broederen gevankelijk weg tweehonderd duizend, vrouwen, zonen en dochteren, en plunderden ook veel roofs van hen; en zij brachten den roof te Samaria. 9Aldaar nu was een profeet des HEEREN, wiens naam was Oded; die ging uit, het heir tegen, dat naar Samaria kwam, en zeide tot hen: Ziet, door de grimmigheid des HEEREN, des Gods uwer vaderen, over Juda, heeft Hij hen in uw hand gegeven, en gij hebt hen doodgeslagen in toornigheid, die tot aan den hemel raakt. 10Daartoe denkt gij nu de kinderen van Juda en Jeruzalem u tot slaven en slavinnen te onderwerpen; zijt gij het niet alleenlijk? Bij ulieden zijn schulden tegen den HEERE, uw God. 11Nu dan, hoort mij, en brengt de gevangenen weder, die gij van uw broederen gevankelijk weggevoerd hebt; want de hitte van des HEEREN toorn is over u. 12Toen maakten zich mannen op van de hoofden der kinderen van Efraim, Azaria, de zoon van Johanan, Berechja, de zoon van Mesillemoth en Jehizkia, de zoon van Sallum, en Amasa, de zoon van Hadlai, tegen degenen, die uit het heir kwamen. 13En zij zeiden tot hen: Gij zult deze gevangenen hier niet inbrengen, tot een schuld over ons tegen den HEERE; denkt gijlieden toe te doen tot onze zonden en tot onze schulden, hoewel wij vele schulden hebben, en de hitte des toorns over Israel is? 14Toen lieten de toegerusten de gevangenen en de roof voor het aangezicht der oversten en der ganse gemeente. 15De mannen nu, die met namen uitgedrukt zijn, maakten zich op, en grepen de gevangenen, en kleedden van den roof al hun naakten; en zij kleedden hen, en schoeiden hen, en spijsden hen, en drenkten hen, en zalfden hen, en voerden ze op ezelen, allen die zwak waren, en brachten hen te Jericho, de Palmstad, bij hun broederen; daarna keerden zij weder naar Samaria. 16Ter zelfder tijd zond de koning Achaz tot de koningen van Assyrie, dat zij hem helpen zouden. 17Daarenboven waren ook de Edomieten gekomen, en hadden Juda geslagen en gevangenen gevankelijk weggevoerd. 18Daartoe waren de Filistijnen in de steden der laagte en het zuiden van Juda ingevallen, en hadden ingenomen Beth-Semes, en Ajalon, en Gederoth, en Socho en haar onderhorige plaatsen, en Timna en haar onderhorige plaatsen, en Gimzo en haar onderhorige plaatsen; en zij woonden aldaar. 19Want de HEERE vernederde Juda, om der wille van Achaz, den koning Israels; want hij had Juda afgetrokken, dat het gans zeer overtrad tegen den HEERE. 20En Tiglath-Pilneser, de koning van Assyrie, kwam tot hem; doch hij benauwde hem, en sterkte hem niet. 21Want Achaz nam een deel van het huis des HEEREN, en van het huis des konings en der vorsten, hetwelk hij den koning van Assyrie gaf; maar hij hielp hem niet. 22Ja, ter tijd, als men hem benauwde, zo maakte hij des overtredens tegen den HEERE nog meer; dit was de koning Achaz. 23Want hij offerde den goden van Damaskus, die hem geslagen hadden, en zeide: Omdat de goden der koningen van Syrie hen helpen, zal ik hun offeren, opdat zij mij ook helpen; maar zij waren hem tot zijn val, mitsgaders aan gans Israel. 24En Achaz verzamelde de vaten van het huis Gods, en hieuw de vaten van het huis Gods in stukken, en sloot de deuren van het huis des HEEREN toe; daartoe maakte hij zich altaren in alle hoeken van Jeruzalem. 25Ook maakte hij in elke stad van Juda hoogten, om anderen goden te roken; alzo verwekte hij den HEERE, zijner vaderen God, tot toorn. 26Het overige nu der geschiedenissen, en al zijn wegen, de eerste en de laatste, ziet, zij zijn geschreven in het boek der koningen van Juda en Israel. 27En Achaz ontsliep met zijn vaderen, en zij begroeven hem in de stad te Jeruzalem; maar zij brachten hem niet in de graven der koningen van Israel; en zijn zoon Jehizkia werd koning in zijn plaats.
