1Giô-sa-phát đã được nhiều của cải và sự vinh hiển, bèn kết sui gia cùng A-háp. 2Cách một vài năm, người đi xuống A-háp tại Sa-ma-ri, A-háp giết nhiều chiên bò ăn mừng Giô-sa-phát và dân sự theo người, rồi khuyên người đi lên hãm đánh Ra-mốt tại Ga-la-át. 3A-háp, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, nói với Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa, rằng: Vua muốn đến cùng tôi hãm đánh Ra-mốt tại Ga-la-át chăng? Người đáp: Tôi cũng như vua; dân sự tôi cũng như dân sự vua; tôi sẽ cùng vua đi chinh chiến. 4Giô-sa-phát lại nói với vua Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Tôi xin vua hãy cần vấn Ðức Giê-hô-va trước đã. 5Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên nhóm các tiên tri, số là bốn trăm người, mà hỏi rằng: Chúng ta có nên đánh Ra-mốt tại Ga-la-át, hay là chẳng nên? Chúng đáp rằng: Hãy đi lên; Ðức Chúa Trời sẽ phó nó vào tay vua. 6Nhưng Giô-sa-phát tiếp rằng: Ở đây, còn có một đấng tiên tri nào khác của Ðức Giê-hô-va, để chúng ta hỏi người ấy chăng? 7Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên đáp với Giô-sa-phát rằng: Còn có một người tên là Mi-chê con trai của Giêm-la, nhờ người ấy ta có thể cầu vấn Ðức Giê-hô-va; nhưng tôi ghét người, vì người không hề nói tiên tri lành về tôi, bèn là dữ luôn. Giô-sa-phát nói: Xin vua chớ nói như vậy! 8Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên bèn gọi một hoạn quan đến mà bảo rằng: Hãy đòi Mi-chê, con trai Giêm-la, đến lập tức. 9Vả, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa, mỗi người đều mặc đồ triều phục, đương ngồi trên ngai mình, ở nơi sân đạp lúa tại cửa thành Sa-ma-ri; còn hết thảy các tiên tri nói tiên tri ở trước mặt hai vua. 10Sê-đê-kia, con trai Kê-na-na, làm lấy những sừng bằng sắt, và nói rằng: Ðức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Với các sừng nầy, vua sẽ báng dân Sy-ri cho đến khi diệt hết chúng nó. 11Các tiên tri đều nói một cách mà rằng: Hãy đi lên đánh Ra-mốt tại Ga-la-át; vua sẽ được thắng, vì Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ phá thành ấy vào tay vua. 12Vả, sứ giả đã đi đòi Mi-chê, nói với người rằng: Nầy những tiên tri đều đồng thinh báo cáo sự lành cho vua; vậy tôi xin ông cũng hãy lấy lời như lời của họ mà báo cáo điều lành. 13Nhưng Mi-chê đáp rằng: Nguyện Ðức Giê-hô-va hằng sống, hễ sự gì Ðức Chúa Trời ta sẽ phán dặn, thì ta sẽ nói cho. 14Khi người đã đến cùng vua, vua bèn hỏi rằng: Hỡi Mi-chê, chúng ta có nên hãm đánh Ra-mốt tại Ga-la-át, hay là chẳng nên đi? Người đáp: Hãy đi lên, vua sẽ được thắng; chúng nó sẽ bị phó vào tay hai vua. 15Vua nói với người rằng: Biết bao lần ta đã lấy lời thề buộc ngươi nhơn danh Ðức Giê-hô-va nói chơn thật với ta? 16Mi-chê đáp: Tôi thấy cả Y-sơ-ra-ên tản lạc trên các núi như bầy chiên không có người chăn; và Ðức Giê-hô-va có phán rằng: Những kẻ ấy không có chủ, ai nấy hãy trở về nhà mình bình an. 17Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên nói với Giô-sa-phát rằng: Tôi há chẳng có nói với vua rằng người không nói tiên tri điều lành về việc tôi, bèn là điều dữ sao? 18Mi-chê lại tiếp: Vậy, hãy nhe lời của Ðức Giê-hô-va. Tôi thấy Ðức Giê-hô-va ngự trên ngôi Ngài, còn cả đạo binh trên trời đứng chầu bên hữu và bên tả. 19Ðức Giê-hô-va phán rằng: Ai sẽ đi dụ A-háp, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, để người đi lên Ra-mốt tại Ga-la-át mà ngã chết ở đó? Rồi người nói cách này, kẻ nói cách khác. 20Bấy giờ, có một thần đi ra, đứng trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, mà thưa rằng: Tôi sẽ đi dụ người Ðức Giê-hô-va phán hỏi: Dụ làm sao? 21Thần thưa lại rằng: Tôi sẽ đi ra làm một thần nói dối trong miệng các tiên tri của người. Ðức Giê-hô-va phán: Phải, ngươi sẽ dụ người được: Hãy đi, làm như lời. 22Vậy bây giờ, hãy xem Ðức Giê-hô-va đã đặt một thần nói dối trong miệng các tiên tri của vua, và Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán sẽ giáng họa trên vua. 23Sê-đê-kia, con trai của Kê-na-na, đi đến gần, vả Mi-chê nơi má, mà rằng: Thần Ðức Giê-hô-va có từ khỏi ta mà đi ngả nào đặng mách bảo cho ngươi? 24Mi-chê đáp: Kìa, trong ngày ngươi chạy từ phòng này qua phòng kia đặng ẩn lánh, thì sẽ biết điều đó. 25Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên truyền lịnh rằng: Hãy bắt Mi-chê dẫn đến A-môn, là quan cai thành, và cho Giô-ách, con trai của vua, 26rồi hãy nói: Vua bảo như vầy: Hãy bỏ tù người này, lấy bánh và nước khổ nạn mà nuôi nó cho đến khi ta trở về bình an. 27Mi-chê bèn nói: Nếu vua trở về bình an, ắt Ðức Giê-hô-va không có cậy tôi phán. Người lại nói: Hỡi chúng dân, hết thảy hãy nghe điều đó! 28Vậy, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa, đồng đi lên Ra-mốt tại ga-la-át. 29Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên nói với Giô-sa-phát rằng: Tôi sẽ cải dạng ăn mặc, rồi ra trận; còn vua, hãy mặc áo xống vua. Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên bèn ăn mặc cải dạng, rồi hai người đi ra trận. 30Vả, vua Sy-ri có truyền lịnh cho các quan cai xe mình rằng: Chớ áp đánh ai hoặc nhỏ hay lớn, nhưng chỉ một mình vua Y-sơ-ra-ên mà thôi, 31Xảy khi các quan cai xe thấy Giô-sa-phát, thì nói rằng: Ấy là vua Y-sơ-ra-ên. Chúng bèn xây lại đặng áp đánh người. Giô-sa-phát kêu la lớn, Ðức Giê-hô-va tiếp cứu người, và Ðức Chúa Trời khiến chúng dang xa khỏi người. 32Vậy, xảy khi các quan cai xe thấy chẳng phải vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì thối lại chẳng đuổi theo nữa. 33Bấy giờ, có một người tình cờ giương cung bắn vua Y-sơ-ra-ên trúng nhằm vua nơi mối giáp đâu lại; A-háp nói với người đánh xe mình rằng: Hãy quay cương lại đem ta ra khỏi hàng quân, vì ta bị thương nặng. 34Trong ngày đó thế trận càng thêm dữ dội; song vua Y-sơ-ra-ên đứng vịn trên xe mình, đối mặt cùng dân Sy-ri, cho đến buổi chiều; người chết vào lối mặt trời lặn.
1Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance; and he joined affinity with Ahab. 2After certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. Ahab killed sheep and cattle for him in abundance, and for the people who were with him, and moved him to go up with him to Ramoth Gilead. 3Ahab king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me to Ramoth Gilead?” He answered him, “I am as you are, and my people as your people. We will be with you in the war.” 4Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for Yahweh’s word.” 5Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?” They said, “Go up; for God will deliver it into the hand of the king.” 6But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there here a prophet of Yahweh besides, that we may inquire of him?” 7The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Yahweh; but I hate him, for he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil. He is Micaiah the son of Imla.” Jehoshaphat said, “Don’t let the king say so.” 8Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, “Get Micaiah the son of Imla quickly.” 9Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, and they were sitting in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them. 10Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron, and said, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘With these you shall push the Syrians, until they are consumed.’” 11All the prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper; for Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.” 12The messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. Let your word therefore, please be like one of theirs, and speak good.” 13Micaiah said, “As Yahweh lives, what my God says, that will I speak.” 14When he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?” He said, “Go up, and prosper. They shall be delivered into your hand.” 15The king said to him, “How many times shall I adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in Yahweh’s name?” 16He said, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. Yahweh said, ‘These have no master. Let them return every man to his house in peace.’” 17The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?” 18Micaiah said, “Therefore hear Yahweh’s word: I saw Yahweh sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left. 19Yahweh said, ‘Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ One spoke saying in this way, and another saying in that way. 20A spirit came out, stood before Yahweh, and said, ‘I will entice him.’ “Yahweh said to him, ‘How?’ 21“He said, ‘I will go, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ “He said, ‘You will entice him, and will prevail also. Go and do so.’ 22“Now therefore, behold, Yahweh has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these your prophets; and Yahweh has spoken evil concerning you.” 23Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, “Which way did the Spirit of Yahweh go from me to speak to you?” 24Micaiah said, “Behold, you shall see on that day, when you shall go into an inner room to hide yourself.” 25The king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son; 26and say, ‘Thus says the king, “Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.”’” 27Micaiah said, “If you return at all in peace, Yahweh has not spoken by me.” He said, “Listen, you peoples, all of you!” 28So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead. 29The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but you put on your robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went into the battle. 30Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, “Fight neither with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel.” 31When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “It is the king of Israel!” Therefore they turned around to fight against him. But Jehoshaphat cried out, and Yahweh helped him; and God moved them to depart from him. 32When the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him. 33A certain man drew his bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of the chariot, “Turn your hand, and carry me out of the army; for I am severely wounded.” 34The battle increased that day. However the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the evening; and about the time of the going down of the sun, he died.

En hij zeide tot hem: Zo zal ik zijn, gelijk gij zijt, en gelijk uw volk is, zal mijn volk zijn, en wij zullen met u zijn in dezen krijg. 4Verder zeide Josafat tot den koning van Israel: Vraag toch als heden naar het woord des HEEREN. 5Toen vergaderde de koning van Israel de profeten, vierhonderd mannen, en hij zeide tot hen: Zullen wij tegen Ramoth in Gilead ten strijde trekken, of zal ik het nalaten? En zij zeiden: Trek op, want God zal hen in de hand des konings geven. 6Maar Josafat zeide: Is hier niet nog een profeet des HEEREN, dat wij van hem vragen mochten? 7Toen zeide de koning van Israel tot Josafat: Er is nog een man, om door hem den HEERE te vragen; maar ik haat hem, want hij profeteert over mij niets goeds, maar altijd kwaad; deze is Micha, de zoon van Jimla. En Josafat zeide: de koning zegge niet alzo. 8Toen riep de koning van Israel een kamerling, en hij zeide: Haal haastelijk Micha, den zoon van Jimla. 9De koning van Israel nu en Josafat, de koning van Juda, zaten elk op zijn troon, bekleed met hun klederen, en zij zaten op het plein, aan de deur der poort van Samaria; en al de profeten profeteerden in hun tegenwoordigheid. 10En Zedekia, de zoon van Kenaana, had zich ijzeren hoornen gemaakt, en hij zeide: Zo zegt de HEERE: Met deze zult gij de Syriers stoten, totdat gij hen gans verdaan zult hebben. 11En al de profeten profeteerden alzo, zeggende: Trek op naar Ramoth in Gilead, en gij zult voorspoedig zijn, want de HEERE zal hen in de hand des konings geven. 12De bode nu, die heengegaan was, om Micha te roepen, sprak tot hem, zeggende: Zie, de woorden der profeten zijn, uit een mond, goed tot den koning; dat nu toch uw woord zij, gelijk als van een uit hen, en spreek het goede. 13Doch Micha zeide: Zo waarachtig als de HEERE leeft, hetgeen mijn God zeggen zal, dat zal ik spreken! 14Als hij tot den koning gekomen was, zo zeide de koning tot hem: Micha, zullen wij naar Ramoth in Gilead ten strijde trekken, of zal ik het nalaten? En hij zeide: Trekt op, en gijlieden zult voorspoedig zijn, want zij zullen in uw hand gegeven worden. 15En de koning zeide tot hem: Tot hoevele reizen zal ik u bezweren, opdat gij tot mij niet spreekt, dan de waarheid, in den Naam des HEEREN? 16En hij zeide: Ik zag het ganse Israel verstrooid op de bergen, gelijk schapen, die geen herder hebben; en de HEERE zeide: Dezen hebben geen heer; een iegelijk kere weder naar zijn huis in vrede. 17Toen zeide de koning van Israel tot Josafat: Heb ik tot u niet gezegd: Hij zal over mij niets goeds, maar kwaad profeteren? 18Verder zeide hij: Daarom hoort het woord des HEEREN: Ik zag den HEERE, zittende op Zijn troon, en al het hemelse heir, staande aan Zijn rechter hand en Zijn linkerhand. 19En de HEERE zeide: Wie zal Achab, den koning van Israel, overreden, dat hij optrekke, en valle te Ramoth in Gilead? Daarna zeide Hij: Deze zegt aldus, en die zegt alzo. 20Toen kwam een geest voort, en stond voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, en zeide: Ik zal hem overreden. En de HEERE zeide tot hem: Waarmede? 21En Hij zeide: Ik zal uitgaan, en een leugengeest zijn in den mond van al zijn profeten. En Hij zeide: Gij zult overreden, en zult ook vermogen; ga uit, en doe alzo. 22Nu dan, zie, de HEERE heeft een leugengeest in den mond van deze uw profeten gegeven, en de HEERE heeft kwaad over u gesproken. 23Toen trad Zedekia, de zoon van Kenaana, toe, en sloeg Micha op het kinnebakken, en hij zeide: Door wat weg is de Geest des HEEREN van mij doorgegaan, om u aan te spreken? 24En Micha zeide: Zie, gij zult het zien aan dienzelfden dag, als gij zult gaan van kamer in kamer, om u te versteken. 25De koning van Israel nu zeide: Neemt Micha, en brengt hem weder tot Amon, den overste der stad, en tot Joas, den zoon des konings; 26En gijlieden zult zeggen: Zo zegt de koning: Zet dezen in het gevangenhuis, en spijst hem met brood der bedruktheid, en met water der bedruktheid, totdat ik met vrede wederkom. 27En Micha zeide: Indien gij enigszins met vrede wederkomt, zo heeft de HEERE door mij niet gesproken. Verder zeide hij: Hoort, gij volken altegaar! 28Alzo toog de koning van Israel, en Josafat, de koning van Juda, op naar Ramoth in Gilead. 29En de koning van Israel zeide tot Josafat: Als ik mij versteld heb, zal ik in den strijd komen; maar gij, trek uw klederen aan. Alzo verstelde zich de koning van Israel, en zij kwamen in den strijd. 30De koning nu van Syrie had geboden aan de oversten der wagens, die hij had, zeggende: Gijlieden zult niet strijden tegen kleinen noch groten, maar tegen den koning van Israel alleen. 31Het geschiedde dan, als de oversten der wagenen Josafat zagen, dat zij zeiden: Die is de koning van Israel; en zij togen rondom hem, om te strijden; maar Josafat riep, en de HEERE hielp hem, en God wendde hen van hem af. 32Want het geschiedde, als de oversten der wagenen zagen, dat het de koning van Israel niet was, dat zij van achter hem afkeerden. 33Toen spande een man den boog in zijn eenvoudigheid, en schoot den koning van Israel tussen de gespen en tussen het pantsier. Toen zeide hij tot den voerman: Keer uw hand en voer mij uit het leger, want ik ben verwond. 34En de strijd nam op dien dag toe, en de koning van Israel deed zich met den wagen staande houden tegenover de Syriers, tot den avond toe; en hij stierf ter tijd, als de zon onderging.
