1Cả dân Giu-đa đều lập Ô-xia làm vua thế cho A-ma-xia, cha người; tuổi người được mười sáu. 2Sau khi vua cha đã an giấc với các tổ phụ, người xây cất Ê-lốt, và khôi phục nó cho Giu-đa. 3Ô-xia được mười sáu tuổi, khi người lên làm vua; người cai trị năm mươi hai năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lam; mẹ người tên là Giê-cô-lia, quê ở Giê-ru-sa-lem. 4Người làm điều thiện trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, y theo mọi điều A-ma-xia, cha người đã làm. 5Trong đời Xa-cha-ri, là người thông hiểu các dị tượng của Ðức Chúa Trời, thì Ô-xia rắp lòng tìm kiếm Ðức Chúa Trời; và người tìm kiếm bao lâu; thì Ðức Chúa Trời khiến cho người đặng may mắn bấy lâu. 6Người kéo ra chiến tranh với dân Phi-li-tin đánh đổ tường thành Gát, tường thành Giáp-nê, và tường thành Ách-đốt; người xây cất những thành trong địa hạt Ách-đốt và tại đất người Phi-li-tin. 7Ðức Chúa Trời giúp đỡ người được thắng dân Phi-li-tin, dân A rạp ở tại Gu-rơ-Ba-anh, và dân Ma-ôn. 8Dân Am-môn cũng tiến cống cho Ô-xia; danh tiếng người đồn đến cõi Ê-díp-tô, vì người đã trở nên rất cường thạnh. 9Ô-xia cũng xây những tháp tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, trên cửa Góc, trên cửa Trũng, và trên Góc tường, làm cho nó vững chắc. 10Người cũng cất những tháo trong đồng vắng, đào nhiều giếng, vì có nhiều súc vật trong đồng bằng và trên đồng cao; cũng có những người làm ruộng, kẻ trồng nho trên núi và tại Cạt-mên, vì người thích việc canh nông. 11Ô-xia có một đạo binh đặn đi chinh chiến, kéo ra trận từ tốp, tùy số tu bộ mà thơ ký Giê-hi-ên, và quan giám thị Ma-a-xê-gia đã làm, có Ha-na-nia, đại thần của vua, cai quản. 12Trọn số các trưởng tộc, tức là những người mạnh dạn, là hai ngàn sáu trăm người. 13Chúng quản lãnh một đạo binh ba mươi vạn bảy ngàn sáu trăm người, đều hay đánh giặc cách mạnh dạn, hầu giúp vua đối địch với cừu địch. 14Ô-xia sắm sửa cho cả đạo binh những khiên, giáo, mũ, giáp, cung, và những đá trành. 15Ở Giê-ru-sa-lem, người khiến tay kỹ sư chế tạo những máy dùng đặt trên các tháp, và trên chót đồn lũy, đặng bắn tên và đá lớn. Danh tiếng người đồn ra phương xa; bởi vì người được Chúa giúp đỡ cách lạ thường, cho đến trở nên cường thạnh. 16Song khi người được trở nên cường thạnh, lòng bèn kiêu ngạo, đến đỗi làm ác, phạm tội cùng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của người; vì người vào trong đền thờ Ðức Giê-hô-va, xông hương trên bàn thờ xông hương. 17Thầy tế lễ A-xa-ria vào sau người, có tám mươi thầy tế lễ, đều là người mạnh dạn, đồng đi theo. 18Chúng cản cự vua Ô-xia mà rằng: Hỡi vua, chẳng phải phần vua xông hương cho Ðức Giê-hô-va đâu, bèn là phần của những thầy tế lễ, con cháu A-rôn, đã được biệt riêng ra thánh đặng xông hương vậy. Hãy đi ra khỏi đền thánh, vì vua đã phạm tội; lại vì việc này Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ chẳng làm cho vua được vinh hiển đâu 19Ô-xia bèn nổi giận; người cầm nơi tay một cái bình hương toan xông hương; và đang khi người nổi giận cùng những thầy tế lễ, phung bèn nổi lên nơi trán người trước mặt những thầy tế lễ, tại trong đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va ở gần bên bàn thờ xông hương. 20A-xa-ria, thầy tế lễ thượng phẩm, và hết thảy thầy tế lễ khác ngó xem người, thấy người bị bịnh phung ở nơi trán, bèn đuổi người ra khỏi đó; và chính người cũng lật đật ra, vì Ðức Giê-hô-va hành hại người. 21Ô-xia bị bịnh phung cho đến ngày băng hà; và vì bị phung phải ở riêng ra trong một nhà khác, chẳng còn được vào đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va nữa; Giô-tham, con trai người, quản lý cung vua, và xét đoán dân sự của nước. 22Ðấng tiên tri Ê-sai, con trai của A-mốt, đã biên chép các công sự khác của Ô-xia từ đầu đến cuối. 23Ô-xia an giấc cùng tổ phụ người, và người ta chôn người chung với tổ phụ người tại ruộng lăng tẩm của các vua; vì người ta nói rằng: Người bị phung. Giô-tham, con trai người, cai trị thế cho người.
1All the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the place of his father Amaziah. 2He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers. 3Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Jechiliah, of Jerusalem. 4He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. 5He set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the vision of God: and as long as he sought Yahweh, God made him to prosper. 6He went out and fought against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in the country of Ashdod, and among the Philistines. 7God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians who lived in Gur Baal, and the Meunim. 8The Ammonites gave tribute to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entrance of Egypt; for he grew exceeding strong. 9Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them. 10He built towers in the wilderness, and dug out many cisterns, for he had much livestock; in the lowland also, and in the plain: and he had farmers and vineyard keepers in the mountains and in the fruitful fields; for he loved farming. 11Moreover Uzziah had an army of fighting men, who went out to war by bands, according to the number of their reckoning made by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the officer, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s captains. 12The whole number of the heads of fathers’ households, even the mighty men of valor, was two thousand and six hundred. 13Under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, who made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy. 14Uzziah prepared for them, even for all the army, shields, and spears, and helmets, and coats of mail, and bows, and stones for slinging. 15He made in Jerusalem engines, invented by skillful men, to be on the towers and on the battlements, with which to shoot arrows and great stones. His name spread far abroad; for he was marvelously helped, until he was strong. 16But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up, so that he did corruptly, and he trespassed against Yahweh his God; for he went into Yahweh’s temple to burn incense on the altar of incense. 17Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him eighty priests of Yahweh, who were valiant men: 18and they resisted Uzziah the king, and said to him, “It isn’t for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to Yahweh, but for the priests the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary; for you have trespassed; neither shall it be for your honor from Yahweh God.” 19Then Uzziah was angry; and he had a censer in his hand to burn incense; and while he was angry with the priests, the leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in Yahweh’s house, beside the altar of incense. 20Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked on him, and behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out quickly from there; yes, himself hurried also to go out, because Yahweh had struck him. 21Uzziah the king was a leper to the day of his death, and lived in a separate house, being a leper; for he was cut off from Yahweh’s house: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land. 22Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, wrote. 23So Uzziah slept with his fathers; and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, “He is a leper.” Jotham his son reigned in his place.
1Toen nam het ganse volk van Juda Uzzia (die nu zestien jaren oud was), en maakte hem koning in de plaats van zijn vader Amazia. 2Dezelve bouwde Eloth, en bracht ze weder aan Juda, nadat de koning met zijn vaderen ontslapen was. 3Zestien jaren was Uzzia oud, toen hij koning werd, en hij regeerde twee en vijftig jaren te Jeruzalem; en de naam zijner moeder was Jecholia, van Jeruzalem. 4En hij deed dat recht was in de ogen des HEEREN, naar alles, wat zijn vader Amazia gedaan had. 5Want hij begaf zich om God te zoeken, in de dagen van Zacharia, die verstandig was in de gezichten Gods; in de dagen nu, dat hij den HEERE zocht, maakte hem God voorspoedig. 6Want hij toog uit, en krijgde tegen de Filistijnen, en brak den muur van Gath, en den muur van Jabne, en den muur van Asdod; daartoe bouwde hij steden in Asdod, en onder de Filistijnen. 7En God hielp hem tegen de Filistijnen, en tegen de Arabieren, die te Gur-Baal woonden, en tegen de Meunieten. 8En de Ammonieten gaven Uzzia geschenken; en zijn naam ging tot den ingang van Egypte, want hij sterkte zich ten hoogste. 9Daartoe bouwde Uzzia torens te Jeruzalem, aan de Hoekpoort en aan de Dalpoort, en aan de hoeken; en hij sterkte ze. 10Hij bouwde ook torens in de woestijn, en hieuw vele putten uit, overmits hij veel vee had, beide in de laagten en in de effene velden; akkerlieden en wijngaardeniers op de bergen en op de vruchtbare velden; want hij was een liefhebber van den land bouw. 11Verder had Uzzia een heirkracht van geoefenden ten oorlog, uittrekkende ten heire bij benden, naar het getal hunner monstering, daar de hand van Jeiel, den schrijver, en Mahaseja, den ambtman; onder de hand van Hananja, een van de vorsten des konings. 12Het gehele getal van de hoofden der vaderen, der strijdbare helden, was twee duizend en zeshonderd. 13En onder hun hand was een krijgsheir van driehonderd zeven duizend en vijfhonderd, die met strijdbare kracht zich ten oorlog oefenden, om den koning tegen den vijand te helpen. 14En Uzzia bereidde voor hen, voor het ganse heir, schilden, en spiesen, en helmen, en pantsieren, en bogen, zelfs tot de slingerstenen toe. 15Hij maakte ook te Jeruzalem kunstige werken, bedenking van kunstige werkmeesters, dat zij op de torens en op de hoeken zijn zouden, om met pijlen en met grote stenen, te schieten; zo ging zijn naam tot verre toe uit, want hij werd wonderlijk geholpen, totdat hij sterk was. 16Maar als hij sterk geworden was, verhief zich zijn hart tot verdervens toe, en hij overtrad tegen den HEERE, zijn God; want hij ging in den tempel des HEEREN, om te roken op het reukaltaar. 17Doch Azaria, de priester, ging hem na, en met hem des HEEREN priesters, tachtig kloeke mannen. 18En zij wederstonden den koning Uzzia, en zeiden tot hem: Het komt u niet toe, Uzzia, den HEERE te roken, maar den priesteren, Aarons zonen, die geheiligd zijn, om te roken; ga uit het heiligdom, want gij hebt overtreden, en het zal u niet tot eer zijn van den HEERE God. 19Toen werd Uzzia toornig, en het reukwerk was in zijn hand, om te roken; als hij nu toornig werd tegen de priesteren, rees de melaatsheid op aan zijn voorhoofd, voor het aangezicht der priesteren in het huis des HEEREN, van boven het reukaltaar. 20Alstoen zag de hoofdpriester Azaria op hem, en al de priesteren en ziet, hij was melaats aan zijn voorhoofd, en zij stieten hem met der haast van daar, ja hij zelf werd ook gedreven uit te gaan, omdat de HEERE hem geplaagd had. 21Alzo was de koning Uzzia melaats tot aan den dag zijns doods; en melaats zijnde, woonde hij in een afgezonderd huis, want hij was van het huis des HEEREN afgesneden; Jotham nu, zijn zoon, was over het huis des konings, richtende het volk des lands. 22Het overige nu der geschiedenissen van Uzzia, de eerste en de laatste, heeft de profeet Jesaja, de zoon van Amos, beschreven. 23En Uzzia ontsliep met zijn vaderen, en zij begroeven hem bij zijn vaderen, in het veld van de begrafenis, die van de koningen was; want zij zeiden: hij is melaats; en zijn zoon Jotham werd koning in zijn plaats.
