1Ang sinomang nananampalataya na si Jesus ay siyang Cristo ay ipinanganak ng Dios: at ang bawa't umiibig sa nanganak ay umiibig din naman sa ipinanganak niyaon. 2Dito'y ating nakikilala na tayo'y nagsisiibig sa mga anak ng Dios, pagka tayo'y nagsisiibig sa Dios at tinutupad natin ang kaniyang mga utos. 3Sapagka't ito ang pagibig sa Dios, na ating tuparin ang kaniyang mga utos: at ang kaniyang mga utos ay hindi mabibigat. 4Sapagka't ang sinomang ipinanganak ng Dios ay dumadaig sa sanglibutan: at ito ang pagtatagumpay na dumadaig sa sanglibutan, sa makatuwid ay ang ating pananampalataya. 5At sino ang dumadaig sa sanglibutan, kundi yaong nananampalatayang si Jesus ay anak ng Dios? 6Ito yaong naparito sa pamamagitan ng tubig at dugo, sa makatuwid ay si Jesucristo; hindi sa tubig lamang, kundi sa tubig at sa dugo. 7At ang Espiritu ang nagpapatotoo, sapagka't ang Espiritu ay katotohanan. 8Sapagka't may tatlong nagpapatotoo, ang Espiritu, ang tubig, at ang dugo: at ang tatlo ay nagkakaisa. 9Kung tinatanggap natin ang patotoo ng mga tao, ay lalong dakila ang patotoo ng Dios, sapagka't ito ang patotoo ng Dios: sapagka't ito papatotoo tungkol sa kaniyang Anak. 10Ang nananampalataya sa Anak ng Dios ay may patotoo sa kaniya: ang hindi nananampalataya sa Dios ay ginagawang isang sinungaling ang Dios: sapagka't hindi sumampalataya sa patotoo na ibinigay ng Dios tungkol sa kaniyang Anak. 11At ito ang patotoo, na tayo'y binigyan ng Dios ng buhay na walang hanggan, at ang buhay na ito ay nasa kaniyang Anak. 12Ang kinaroroonan ng Anak ay kinaroroonan ng buhay; ang hindi kinaroroonan ng Anak ng Dios ay hindi kinaroroonan ng buhay. 13Ang mga bagay na ito ay isinulat ko sa inyo, upang inyong maalaman na kayo'y mayroong buhay na walang hanggan, sa makatuwid ay sa inyong nananampalataya sa pangalan ng Anak ng Dios. 14At ito ang nasa ating pagkakatiwala sa kaniya, na kung tayo'y humingi ng anomang bagay na ayon sa kaniyang kalooban, ay dinidinig tayo niya: 15At kung ating nalalaman na tayo'y dinidinig niya sa anomang ating hingin, ay nalalaman natin na nasa atin ang mga kahilingang sa kaniya'y ating hiningi. 16Kung makita ng sinoman na ang kaniyang kapatid ay nagkakasala ng kasalanang hindi ikamamatay, ay idalangin siya at bibigyan siya ng Dios ng buhay, na ukol sa mga nagkakasala nang hindi ikamamatay. May kasalanang ikamamatay: hindi tungkol dito ang sinasabi ko na idalangin niya. 17Lahat ng kalikuan ay kasalanan: at may kasalanang hindi ikamamatay. 18Nalalaman natin na ang sinomang ipinanganak ng Dios ay hindi nagkakasala; datapuwa't ang ipinanganak ng Dios ay nagiingat sa kaniyang sarili, at hindi siya ginagalaw ng masama. 19Nalalaman natin na tayo'y sa Dios at ang buong sanglibutan ay nakahilig sa masama. 20At nalalaman natin na naparito ang Anak ng Dios, at tayo'y binigyan ng pagkaunawa, upang ating makilala siya na totoo, at tayo'y nasa kaniya na totoo, sa makatuwid ay sa kaniyang Anak na si Jesucristo. Ito ang tunay na Dios, at ang buhay na walang hanggan. 21Mga anak ko, mangagingat kayo sa mga diosdiosan.

1Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God. Whoever loves the Father also loves the child who is born of him. 2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments. 3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous. 4For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith. 5Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7For there are three who testify: 8the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three agree as one. 9If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is God’s testimony which he has testified concerning his Son. 10He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who doesn’t believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. 11The testimony is this, that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He who has the Son has the life. He who doesn’t have God’s Son doesn’t have the life. 13These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. 14This is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. 15And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him. 16If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for those who sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death. I don’t say that he should make a request concerning this. 17All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death. 18We know that whoever is born of God doesn’t sin, but he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn’t touch him. 19We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20We know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 21Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

1Een iegelijk, die gelooft, dat Jezus is de Christus, die is uit God geboren; en een iegelijk, die liefheeft Dengene, Die geboren heeft, die heeft ook lief dengene, die uit Hem geboren is. 2Hieraan kennen wij, dat wij de kinderen Gods liefhebben, wanneer wij God liefhebben, en Zijn geboden bewaren. 3Want dit is de liefde Gods, dat wij Zijn geboden bewaren; en Zijn geboden zijn niet zwaar. 4Want al wat uit God geboren is, overwint de wereld; en dit is de overwinning, die de wereld overwint, namelijk ons geloof. 5Wie is het, die de wereld overwint, dan die gelooft, dat Jezus is de Zoon van God? 6Deze is het, Die gekomen is door water en bloed, namelijk Jezus, de Christus; niet door het water alleen, maar door het water en het bloed. En de Geest is het, Die getuigt, dat de Geest de waarheid is. 7Want Drie zijn er, Die getuigen in den hemel, de Vader, het Woord en de Heilige Geest; en deze Drie zijn Een. 8En drie zijn er, die getuigen op de aarde, de Geest, en het water, en het bloed; en die drie zijn tot een. 9Indien wij de getuigenis der mensen aannemen, de getuigenis van God is meerder; want dit is de getuigenis van God, welke Hij van Zijn Zoon getuigd heeft. 10Die in den Zoon van God gelooft, heeft de getuigenis in zichzelven; die God niet gelooft, heeft Hem tot een leugenaar gemaakt, dewijl hij niet geloofd heeft de getuigenis, die God getuigd heeft van Zijn Zoon. 11En dit is de getuigenis, namelijk dat ons God het eeuwige leven gegeven heeft; en ditzelve leven is in Zijn Zoon. 12Die den Zoon heeft, die heeft het leven; die den Zoon van God niet heeft, die heeft het leven niet. 13Deze dingen heb ik u geschreven, die gelooft in den Naam des Zoons van God; opdat gij weet, dat gij het eeuwige leven hebt, en opdat gij gelooft in den Naam des Zoons van God. 14En dit is de vrijmoedigheid, die wij tot Hem hebben, dat zo wij iets bidden naar Zijn wil, Hij ons verhoort. 15En indien wij weten, dat Hij ons verhoort, wat wij ook bidden, zo weten wij, dat wij de beden verkrijgen, die wij van Hem gebeden hebben. 16Indien iemand zijn broeder ziet zondigen een zonde niet tot den dood, die zal God bidden en Hij zal hem het leven geven, dengenen, zeg ik, die zondigen niet tot den dood. Er is een zonde tot den dood; voor dezelve zonde zeg ik niet, dat hij zal bidden. 17Alle ongerechtigheid is zonde; en er is zonde niet tot den dood. 18Wij weten, dat een iegelijk, die uit God geboren is, niet zondigt; maar die uit God geboren is, bewaart zichzelven, en de boze vat hem niet. 19Wij weten, dat wij uit God zijn, en dat de gehele wereld ligt in het boze. 20Doch wij weten, dat de Zoon van God gekomen is, en heeft ons het verstand gegeven, dat wij den Waarachtige kennen; en wij zijn in den Waarachtige, namelijk in Zijn Zoon Jezus Christus. Deze is de waarachtige God, en het eeuwige Leven. 21Kinderkens, bewaart uzelven van de afgoden. Amen.
