Kwa maana tazama nawaletea habari njema za furaha itakayokuwa kwa watu wote. 11Leo katika mji wa Daudi kwa ajili yenu amezaliwa Mwokozi, ndiye Kristo Bwana. 12Hii ndiyo itakayokuwa ishara kwenu: Mtamkuta mtoto mchanga amefunikwa nguo za kitoto na kulazwa katika hori ya kulia ngʼombe.” 13Ghafula pakawa na jeshi kubwa la mbinguni pamoja na huyo malaika wakimsifu Mungu wakisema, 14“Atukuzwe Mungu juu mbinguni, na duniani iwe amani kwa watu aliowaridhia.” 15Hao malaika walipokwisha kuondoka na kwenda zao mbinguni, wale wachungaji wakasemezana wao kwa wao, “Twendeni Bethlehemu tukaone mambo haya ya ajabu yaliyotukia, ambayo Bwana ametuambia habari zake.” 16Hivyo wakaenda haraka Bethlehemu, wakawakuta Maria na Yosefu na yule mtoto mchanga akiwa amelala katika hori la kulia ngʼombe. 17Walipomwona yule mtoto, wakawaeleza yale waliyokuwa wameambiwa kuhusu huyo mtoto. 18Nao wote waliosikia habari hizi wakastaajabia yale waliyoambiwa na wale wachungaji wa kondoo. 19Lakini Maria akayaweka mambo haya yote moyoni mwake na kuyatafakari. 20Wale wachungaji wakarudi, huku wakimtukuza Mungu na kumsifu kwa ajili ya mambo yote waliyokuwa wameambiwa na kuyaona. 21Hata zilipotimia siku nane, ulikuwa ndio wakati wa kumtahiri mtoto, akaitwa Yesu, jina alilokuwa amepewa na malaika kabla hajatungwa mimba. 22Ulipotimia wakati wa utakaso wake Maria kwa mujibu wa Sheria ya Mose, basi Yosefu na Maria walimpeleka mtoto Yerusalemu, ili kumweka wakfu kwa Bwana 23(kama ilivyoandikwa katika Sheria ya Bwana, kwamba, “Kila mtoto wa kiume kifungua mimba atawekwa wakfu kwa Bwana”), 24na pia kutoa dhabihu kulingana na yale yaliyonenwa katika Sheria ya Bwana: “Hua wawili au makinda mawili ya njiwa.” 25Basi alikuwako huko Yerusalemu mtu mmoja jina lake Simeoni, ambaye alikuwa mwenye haki na mcha Mungu, akitarajia faraja ya Israeli, na Roho Mtakatifu alikuwa juu yake. 26Roho Mtakatifu alikuwa amemfunulia kuwa hatakufa kabla hajamwona Kristo wa Bwana. 27Simeoni, akiwa ameongozwa na Roho Mtakatifu, alikwenda Hekaluni. Wazazi walipomleta mtoto Yesu ili kumfanyia kama ilivyokuwa desturi ya Sheria, 28ndipo Simeoni akampokea mtoto mikononi mwake na kumsifu Mungu, akisema: 29“Bwana Mwenyezi, kama ulivyoahidi, sasa wamruhusu mtumishi wako aende zake kwa amani. 30Kwa maana macho yangu yameuona wokovu wako, 31ulioweka tayari machoni pa watu wote, 32nuru kwa ajili ya ufunuo kwa watu wa Mataifa na kwa ajili ya utukufu kwa watu wako Israeli.” 33Naye Yosefu na mama yake mtoto wakastaajabu kwa yale yaliyokuwa yamesemwa kumhusu huyo mtoto. 34Kisha Simeoni akawabariki, akamwambia Maria mama yake, “Mtoto huyu amewekwa kwa makusudi ya kuanguka na kuinuka kwa wengi katika Israeli. Atakuwa ishara ambayo watu watanena dhidi yake, 35ili mawazo ya mioyo mingi yadhihirike. Nao upanga utauchoma moyo wako.” 36Tena alikuwako Hekaluni nabii mmoja mwanamke, jina lake Ana binti Fanueli, wa kabila la Asheri. Alikuwa mzee sana; naye alikuwa ameolewa na kuishi na mume kwa miaka saba tu, kisha mumewe akafa. 37Hivyo alikuwa mjane na umri wake ulikuwa miaka themanini na minne. Yeye hakuondoka humo Hekaluni usiku wala mchana, bali alikuwa akimwabudu Mungu, akifunga na kuomba. 38Wakati huo huo, Ana alikuja akaanza kusifu, akimshukuru Mungu na kusema habari za huyo mtoto kwa watu wote waliokuwa wakitarajia ukombozi wa Yerusalemu. 39Yosefu na Maria walipokuwa wamekamilisha mambo yote yaliyotakiwa na Sheria ya Bwana, walirudi mjini kwao Nazareti huko Galilaya. 40Naye yule mtoto akakua na kuongezeka nguvu, akiwa amejaa hekima, na neema ya Mungu ilikuwa juu yake. 41Kila mwaka Yosefu na Maria mama yake Yesu walikuwa na desturi ya kwenda Yerusalemu kwa ajili ya Sikukuu ya Pasaka. 42Yesu alipokuwa na umri wa miaka kumi na miwili, walipanda kwenda kwenye Sikukuu hiyo kama ilivyokuwa desturi. 43Baada ya Sikukuu kumalizika, wakati Yosefu na Maria mama yake walipokuwa wakirudi nyumbani, Yesu alibaki Yerusalemu lakini hawakutambua. 44Wao wakidhani kuwa yuko miongoni mwa wasafiri, walienda mwendo wa kutwa nzima. Ndipo wakaanza kumtafuta miongoni mwa jamaa zao na marafiki. 45Walipomkosa walirudi Yerusalemu ili kumtafuta. 46Baada ya siku tatu wakamkuta ndani ya Hekalu, akiwa ameketi katikati ya walimu wa sheria, akiwasikiliza na kuwauliza maswali. 47Wote waliomsikia walistaajabishwa na uwezo wake mkubwa wa kuelewa, na majibu aliyoyatoa. 48Yosefu na Maria mama yake walipomwona walishangaa. Mama yake akamuuliza, “Mwanangu, mbona umetufanyia hivi? Tazama, mimi na baba yako tumekuwa tukikutafuta kwa wasiwasi mkubwa kila mahali.” 49Yesu akawaambia, “Kwa nini kunitafuta? Hamkujua kwamba imenipasa kuwa katika nyumba ya Baba yangu?” 50Lakini wao hawakuelewa maana ya lile alilowaambia. 51Ndipo akashuka pamoja nao hadi Nazareti, naye alikuwa mtiifu kwao. Lakini mama yake akayaweka moyoni mwake mambo haya yote. 52Naye Yesu akakua katika hekima na kimo, akimpendeza Mungu na wanadamu.
1Now in those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled. 2This was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3All went to enroll themselves, everyone to his own city. 4Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David; 5to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him as wife, being pregnant. 6While they were there, the day had come for her to give birth. 7She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn. 8There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock. 9Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people. 11For there is born to you, this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough.” 13Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God, and saying, 14“Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men.” 15When the angels went away from them into the sky, the shepherds said one to another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16They came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby was lying in the feeding trough. 17When they saw it, they publicized widely the saying which was spoken to them about this child. 18All who heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds. 19But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them. 21When eight days were fulfilled for the circumcision of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. 22When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord 23(as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), 24and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” 25Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law, 28then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29“Now you are releasing your servant, Master, according to your word, in peace; 30for my eyes have seen your salvation, 31which you have prepared before the face of all peoples; 32a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel.” 33Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him, 34and Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, “Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against. 35Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” 36There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity, 37and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn’t depart from the temple, worshiping with fastings and petitions night and day. 38Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem. 39When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. 40The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him. 41His parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover. 42When he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast, 43and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. Joseph and his mother didn’t know it, 44but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey, and they looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances. 45When they didn’t find him, they returned to Jerusalem, looking for him. 46After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them, and asking them questions. 47All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48When they saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us this way? Behold, your father and I were anxiously looking for you.” 49He said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?” 50They didn’t understand the saying which he spoke to them. 51And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth. He was subject to them, and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. 52And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

En als de ouders het Kindeken Jezus inbrachten, om naar de gewoonte der wet met Hem te doen; 28Zo nam hij Hetzelve in zijn armen, en loofde God, en zeide: 29Nu laat Gij, Heere! Uw dienstknecht gaan in vrede naar Uw woord; 30Want mijn ogen hebben Uw zaligheid gezien, 31Die Gij bereid hebt voor het aangezicht van al de volken; 32Een Licht tot verlichting der heidenen, en tot heerlijkheid van Uw volk Israel. 33En Jozef en Zijn moeder verwonderden zich over hetgeen van Hem gezegd werd. 34En Simeon zegende henlieden, en zeide tot Maria, Zijn moeder: Zie, Deze wordt gezet tot een val en opstanding veler in Israel, en tot een teken, dat wedersproken zal worden. 35(En ook een zwaard zal door uw eigen ziel gaan) opdat de gedachten uit vele harten geopenbaard worden. 36En er was Anna, een profetesse, een dochter van Fanuel, uit den stam van Aser; deze was tot groten ouderdom gekomen, welke met haar man zeven jaren had geleefd van haar maagdom af. 37En zij was een weduwe van omtrent vier en tachtig jaren, dewelke niet week uit den tempel, met vasten en bidden, God dienende nacht en dag. 38En deze, te dierzelfder ure daarbij komende, heeft insgelijks den Heere beleden, en sprak van Hem tot allen, die de verlossing in Jeruzalem verwachtten. 39En als zij alles voleindigd hadden, wat naar de wet des Heeren te doen was, keerden zij weder naar Galilea, tot hun stad Nazareth. 40En het Kindeken wies op, en werd gesterkt in den geest, en vervuld met wijsheid; en de genade Gods was over Hem. 41En Zijn ouders reisden alle jaar naar Jeruzalem, op het feest van pascha. 42En toen Hij twaalf jaren oud geworden was, en zij naar Jeruzalem opgegaan waren, naar de gewoonte van den feestdag; 43En de dagen aldaar voleindigd hadden, toen zij wederkeerden, bleef het Kind Jezus te Jeruzalem, en Jozef en Zijn moeder wisten het niet. 44Maar menende, dat Hij in het gezelschap op den weg was, gingen zij een dagreize, en zochten Hem onder de magen, en onder de bekenden. 45En als zij Hem niet vonden, keerden zij wederom naar Jeruzalem, Hem zoekende. 46En het geschiedde, na drie dagen, dat zij Hem vonden in den tempel, zittende in het midden der leraren, hen horende, en hen ondervragende. 47En allen, die Hem hoorden, ontzetten zich over Zijn verstand en antwoorden. 48En zij, Hem ziende, werden verslagen; en Zijn moeder zeide tot Hem: Kind! waarom hebt Gij ons zo gedaan? Zie, Uw vader en ik hebben U met angst gezocht. 49En Hij zeide tot hen: Wat is het, dat gij Mij gezocht hebt? Wist gij niet, dat Ik moet zijn in de dingen Mijns Vaders? 50En zij verstonden het woord niet, dat Hij tot hen sprak. 51En Hij ging met hen af, en kwam te Nazareth, en was hun onderdanig. En Zijn moeder bewaarde al deze dingen in haar hart. 52En Jezus nam toe in wijsheid, en in grootte, en in genade bij God en de mensen.
