Yoshua 1

1Baada ya kifo cha Mose mtumishi wa Bwana, Bwana akamwambia Yoshua mwana wa Nuni, msaidizi wa Mose: 2“Mtumishi wangu Mose amekufa. Sasa basi, wewe pamoja na watu wote hawa, jiandaeni kuvuka huu Mto Yordani kuingia nchi ambayo karibu nitawapa wana wa Israeli. 3Kila mahali nyayo za miguu yenu zitakapokanyaga nimewapa, kama vile nilivyomwahidi Mose. 4Nchi yenu itaenea kuanzia jangwa hili hadi Lebanoni, tena kuanzia mto mkubwa wa Frati, yaani nchi yote ya Wahiti, hadi Bahari ile Kubwa iliyoko upande wa magharibi. 5Hakuna mtu yeyote atakayeweza kushindana na wewe siku zote za maisha yako. Kama vile nilivyokuwa pamoja na Mose, ndivyo nitakavyokuwa pamoja na wewe, sitakuacha wala sitakupungukia. 6“Uwe hodari na shujaa, kwa sababu wewe ndiwe utakayewaongoza watu hawa kuirithi nchi niliyowaapia baba zao kuwapa. 7Uwe hodari na uwe na ushujaa mwingi. Uwe na bidii kutii sheria yote aliyokupa Mose mtumishi wangu, usiiache kwa kugeuka kuelekea kuume au kushoto, ili upate kufanikiwa popote uendako. 8Usiache Kitabu hiki cha Sheria kiondoke kinywani mwako; yatafakari maneno yake usiku na mchana, ili upate kuwa mwangalifu kufanya kila kitu sawasawa na yote yaliyoandikwa ndani yake. Ndipo utakapofanikiwa na kisha utastawi. 9Je, si mimi niliyekuamuru? Uwe hodari na shujaa. Usihofu wala usivunjike moyo, kwa kuwa Bwana Mungu wako atakuwa pamoja nawe kokote uendako.” 10Ndipo Yoshua akawaagiza maafisa wa watu akisema, 11“Pitieni katika kambi yote mkawaambie watu, ‘Wekeni tayari mahitaji yenu. Siku tatu kuanzia sasa mtavuka hii Yordani ili kuingia na kuimiliki nchi ambayo Bwana Mungu wenu anawapa iwe yenu wenyewe.’” 12Lakini kwa Wareubeni, Wagadi na nusu ya kabila la Manase, Yoshua akasema, 13“Kumbukeni agizo lile Mose mtumishi wa Bwana alilowapa: ‘Bwana Mungu wenu anawapa ninyi raha, naye amewapa nchi hii.’ 14Wake zenu, watoto wenu na mifugo yenu watakaa katika nchi ile Mose aliyowapa mashariki ya Yordani, lakini mashujaa wenu wote, wakiwa wamevikwa silaha kikamilifu lazima wavuke mbele ya ndugu zenu. Imewapasa kuwasaidia ndugu zenu hadi 15Bwana awape nao raha, kama alivyokwisha kufanya kwa ajili yenu hadi wao pia watakapokuwa wamemiliki nchi ile Bwana Mungu wenu anayowapa. Baada ya hilo, mwaweza kurudi na kukalia nchi yenu wenyewe, ambayo Mose mtumishi wa Bwana aliwapa mashariki mwa Yordani kuelekea linakochomoza jua.” 16Ndipo wakamjibu Yoshua, “Chochote ambacho umetuagiza tutafanya na popote utakapotutuma tutakwenda. 17Kama vile tulivyomtii Mose kikamilifu, ndivyo tutakavyokutii wewe. Bwana Mungu wako na awe pamoja nawe tu kama vile alivyokuwa pamoja na Mose. 18Yeyote atakayeasi neno lako na kuacha kuyatii maneno yako, au chochote utakachowaamuru, atauawa. Uwe imara na hodari tu!”

1Now after the death of Moses the servant of Yahweh, Yahweh spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ servant, saying, 2“Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you, and all this people, to the land which I give to them, even to the children of Israel. 3I have given you every place that the sole of your foot will tread on, as I told Moses. 4From the wilderness, and this Lebanon, even to the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your border. 5No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not fail you nor forsake you. 6“Be strong and courageous; for you shall cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you. Don’t turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. 8This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. 9Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed: for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go.” 10Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 11“Pass through the midst of the camp, and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare food; for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which Yahweh your God gives you to possess it.’” 12Joshua spoke to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, saying, 13“Remember the word which Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, saying, ‘Yahweh your God gives you rest, and will give you this land. 14Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock, shall live in the land which Moses gave you beyond the Jordan; but you shall pass over before your brothers armed, all the mighty men of valor, and shall help them 15until Yahweh has given your brothers rest, as he has given you, and they have also possessed the land which Yahweh your God gives them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession, and possess it, which Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.’” 16They answered Joshua, saying, “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. 17Just as we listened to Moses in all things, so will we listen to you. Only may Yahweh your God be with you, as he was with Moses. 18Whoever rebels against your commandment, and doesn’t listen to your words in all that you command him, he shall be put to death. Only be strong and courageous.”

1Het geschiedde nu, na den dood van Mozes, den knecht des HEEREN, dat de HEERE tot Jozua, den zoon van Nun, den dienaar van Mozes, sprak, zeggende: 2Mijn knecht Mozes is gestorven; zo maak u nu op, trek over deze Jordaan, gij en al dit volk, tot het land, dat Ik hun, den kinderen Israels, geve. 3Alle plaats, waarop ulieder voetzool treden zal, heb Ik u gegeven, gelijk als Ik tot Mozes gesproken heb. 4Van de woestijn en dezen Libanon af tot aan de grote rivier, de rivier Frath, het ganse land der Hethieten, en tot aan de grote zee, tegen den ondergang der zon, zal ulieder landpale zijn. 5Niemand zal voor uw aangezicht bestaan al de dagen uws levens; gelijk als Ik met Mozes geweest ben, zal Ik met u zijn; Ik zal u niet begeven, en zal u niet verlaten. 6Wees sterk en heb goeden moed! want gij zult dit volk dat land erfelijk doen bezitten, dat Ik hun vaderen heb gezworen hun te geven. 7Alleenlijk wees sterk en heb zeer goeden moed, dat gij waarneemt te doen naar de ganse wet, welke Mozes, Mijn knecht, u geboden heeft, en wijk daarvan niet, ter rechter hand noch ter linkerhand, opdat gij verstandelijk handelt alom, waar gij zult gaan; 8Dat het boek dezer wet niet wijke van uw mond, maar overleg het dag en nacht, opdat gij waarneemt te doen naar alles, wat daarin geschreven is; want alsdan zult gij uw wegen voorspoedig maken, en alsdan zult gij verstandelijk handelen. 9Heb Ik het u niet bevolen? wees sterk en heb goeden moed, en verschrik niet, en ontzet u niet; want de HEERE, uw God, is met u alom, waar gij heengaat. 10Toen gebood Jozua den ambtlieden des volks, zeggende: 11Gaat door het midden des legers, en beveelt het volk, zeggende: Bereidt teerkost voor ulieden; want binnen nog drie dagen zult gijlieden over deze Jordaan gaan, dat gij ingaat, om te erven het land, hetwelk de HEERE, uw God, ulieden geeft om te beerven. 12En Jozua sprak tot de Rubenieten en Gadieten, en den halven stam van Manasse, zeggende: 13Gedenkt aan het woord, hetwelk Mozes, de knecht des HEEREN, ulieden geboden heeft, zeggende: De HEERE, uw God, geeft ulieden rust, en Hij geeft u dit land; 14Laat uw vrouwen, uw kleine kinderen, en uw vee blijven in het land, dat Mozes ulieden aan deze zijde van de Jordaan gegeven heeft; maar gijlieden zult gewapend trekken, voor het aangezicht uwer broederen, alle strijdbare helden, en zult hen helpen; 15Totdat de HEERE uw broederen rust geve, als ulieden, en dat zij ook erfelijk bezitten het land, dat de HEERE, uw God, hun geeft; alsdan zult gijlieden wederkeren tot het land uwer erfenis, en zult het erfelijk bezitten, dat Mozes, de knecht des HEEREN, ulieden gegeven heeft, aan deze zijde van de Jordaan, tegen den opgang der zon. 16Toen antwoordden zij Jozua, zeggende: Al wat gij ons geboden hebt, zullen wij doen, en alom, waar gij ons zenden zult, zullen wij gaan. 17Gelijk wij in alles naar Mozes hebben gehoord, alzo zullen wij naar u horen; alleenlijk dat de HEERE, uw God, met u zij, gelijk als Hij met Mozes geweest is! 18Alle man, die uw mond wederspannig wezen zal, en uw woorden niet horen zal in alles, wat gij hem gebieden zult, die zal gedood worden, alleenlijk wees sterk en heb goeden moed!
