Wakati nilipokagua kati ya watu na makuhani, sikuwapata Walawi. 16Basi niliwaita Eliezeri, Arieli, Shemaya, Elnathani, Yaribu, Elnathani, Nathani, Zekaria na Meshulamu waliokuwa viongozi na Yoyaribu na Elnathani waliokuwa wasomi, 17nikawatuma kwa Ido kiongozi huko Kasifia. Niliwaambia watakayomwambia Ido na ndugu zake, watumishi wa Hekalu huko Kasifia, ili waweze kutuletea wahudumu kwa ajili ya nyumba ya Mungu wetu. 18Kwa sababu mkono wa neema wa Mungu wetu ulikuwa juu yetu, walituletea Sherebia, mtu mwenye uwezo kutoka wazao wa Mahli mwana wa Lawi, mwana wa Israeli, na wana wa Sherebia pamoja na ndugu zao wanaume kumi na wanane. 19Naye Hashabia, pamoja na Yeshaya kutoka wazao wa Merari na ndugu zake na wapwa wake wanaume ishirini. 20Vilevile walileta watumishi wa Hekalu 220, kikundi ambacho Daudi na maafisa walikuwa wamekiweka kusaidia Walawi. Wote walikuwa wameorodheshwa kwa majina. 21Kando ya Mto Ahava, hapo nilitangaza kufunga, ili tujinyenyekeshe mbele za Mungu wetu na kumwomba kwa ajili ya kutujalia safari ya amani sisi na watoto wetu, pamoja na mali zetu zote. 22Niliona aibu kumwomba mfalme askari na wapanda farasi wa kutulinda njiani kutokana na adui zetu, kwa sababu tulikwisha kumwambia mfalme, “Mkono wa neema wa Mungu wetu uko juu ya kila mmoja anayemtafuta, lakini hasira yake kubwa ni dhidi ya wote wamwachao.” 23Kwa hiyo tulifunga na kumwomba Mungu wetu kuhusu jambo hili, naye akajibu maombi yetu. 24Kisha niliwatenga viongozi wa makuhani kumi na wawili, pamoja na Sherebia, Hashabia na ndugu zao kumi, 25nami nikawapimia fedha, dhahabu na vifaa ambavyo mfalme, washauri wake, maafisa wake na Israeli wote waliokuwepo walikuwa wamevitoa sadaka kwa ajili ya nyumba ya Mungu wetu. 26Niliwapimia talanta 650 za fedha, vifaa vingine vya fedha vya uzito wa talanta mia moja, talanta mia moja za dhahabu, 27mabakuli ishirini ya dhahabu ya thamani ya darkoni elfu moja, na vyombo viwili vya shaba iliyosuguliwa, ya thamani kama dhahabu. 28Niliwaambia, “Ninyi pamoja na vyombo hivi ni wakfu kwa Bwana. Fedha na dhahabu ni sadaka ya hiari kwa Bwana, Mungu wa baba zenu. 29Vilindeni kwa uangalifu mpaka mtakapovipima ndani ya vyumba vya nyumba ya Bwana katika Yerusalemu mbele ya makuhani, viongozi na Walawi pamoja na wakuu wa jamaa za Israeli.” 30Ndipo makuhani na Walawi wakapokea fedha, dhahabu na vyombo vilivyowekwa wakfu ambavyo vilipimwa na kupelekwa katika nyumba ya Mungu wetu mjini Yerusalemu. 31Tulianza safari kutoka Mto Ahava kwenda Yerusalemu kwenye siku ya kumi na mbili ya mwezi wa kwanza. Mkono wa Mungu wetu ulikuwa juu yetu, naye njiani alitulinda dhidi ya adui na wanyangʼanyi. 32Kwa hiyo tuliwasili Yerusalemu ambapo tulipumzika kwa siku tatu. 33Katika siku ya nne, ndani ya nyumba ya Mungu wetu, tulipima fedha, dhahabu na vyombo vilivyowekwa wakfu, tukakabidhi mikononi mwa kuhani Meremothi mwana wa Uria. Eleazari mwana wa Finehasi alikuwa pamoja naye, pia walikuwako Walawi wawili, Yozabadi mwana wa Yeshua na Noadia mwana wa Binui. 34Kila kitu kilihesabiwa kwa idadi na kupimwa kwa uzito, nao uzito wote uliandikwa wakati ule. 35Kisha mateka waliokuwa wamerudi kutoka utumwani wakatoa sadaka za kuteketezwa kwa moto kwa Mungu wa Israeli: mafahali kumi na wawili kwa ajili ya Israeli wote, kondoo dume tisini na sita, wana-kondoo sabini na saba na mbuzi dume kumi na wawili kuwa sadaka ya dhambi. Hii yote ilikuwa sadaka ya kuteketezwa kwa moto kwa Bwana. 36Pia walikabidhi manaibu wa mfalme na watawala wa Ngʼambo ya Mto Frati maagizo ya mfalme, ambao baadaye walitoa msaada kwa watu na kwa nyumba ya Mungu.

1Now these are the heads of their fathers’ households, and this is the genealogy of those who went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of Artaxerxes the king: 2Of the sons of Phinehas, Gershom. Of the sons of Ithamar, Daniel. Of the sons of David, Hattush. 3Of the sons of Shecaniah, of the sons of Parosh, Zechariah; and with him were reckoned by genealogy of the males one hundred fifty. 4Of the sons of Pahathmoab, Eliehoenai the son of Zerahiah; and with him two hundred males. 5Of the sons of Shecaniah, the son of Jahaziel; and with him three hundred males. 6Of the sons of Adin, Ebed the son of Jonathan; and with him fifty males. 7Of the sons of Elam, Jeshaiah the son of Athaliah; and with him seventy males. 8Of the sons of Shephatiah, Zebadiah the son of Michael; and with him eighty males. 9Of the sons of Joab, Obadiah the son of Jehiel; and with him two hundred and eighteen males. 10Of the sons of Shelomith, the son of Josiphiah; and with him one hundred sixty males. 11Of the sons of Bebai, Zechariah the son of Bebai; and with him twenty-eight males. 12Of the sons of Azgad, Johanan the son of Hakkatan; and with him one hundred ten males. 13Of the sons of Adonikam, who were the last; and these are their names: Eliphelet, Jeuel, and Shemaiah; and with them sixty males. 14Of the sons of Bigvai, Uthai and Zabbud; and with them seventy males. 15I gathered them together to the river that runs to Ahava; and there we encamped three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi. 16Then sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, who were teachers. 17I sent them out to Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia; and I told them what they should tell Iddo, and his brothers the Nethinim, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring to us ministers for the house of our God. 18According to the good hand of our God on us they brought us a man of discretion, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brothers, eighteen; 19and Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brothers and their sons, twenty; 20and of the Nethinim, whom David and the princes had given for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinim: all of them were mentioned by name. 21Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek of him a straight way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance. 22For I was ashamed to ask of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the way, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is on all those who seek him, for good; but his power and his wrath is against all those who forsake him.” 23So we fasted and begged our God for this: and he was entreated of us. 24Then I set apart twelve of the chiefs of the priests, even Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brothers with them, 25and weighed to them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering for the house of our God, which the king, and his counselors, and his princes, and all Israel there present, had offered: 26I weighed into their hand six hundred fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels one hundred talents; of gold one hundred talents; 27and twenty bowls of gold, of one thousand darics; and two vessels of fine bright brass, precious as gold. 28I said to them, “You are holy to Yahweh, and the vessels are holy; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to Yahweh, the God of your fathers. 29Watch, and keep them, until you weigh them before the chiefs of the priests and the Levites, and the princes of the fathers’ households of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the rooms of Yahweh’s house.” 30So the priests and the Levites received the weight of the silver and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem to the house of our God. 31Then we departed from the river Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go to Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was on us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and the bandit by the way. 32We came to Jerusalem, and stayed there three days. 33On the fourth day the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed in the house of our God into the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, the Levite; 34the whole by number and by weight: and all the weight was written at that time. 35The children of the captivity, who had come out of exile, offered burnt offerings to the God of Israel, twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, and twelve male goats for a sin offering: all this was a burnt offering to Yahweh. 36They delivered the king’s commissions to the king’s satraps, and to the governors beyond the River: and they furthered the people and God’s house.

en met hem honderd en tien manspersonen. 13En van de laatste kinderen van Adonikam, welker namen deze waren: Elifelet, Jehiel, en Semaja; en met hen zestig manspersonen. 14En van de kinderen van Bigvai, Uthai en Zabbud; en met hen zeventig manspersonen. 15En ik vergaderde hen aan de rivier, gaande naar Ahava, en wij legerden ons aldaar drie dagen; toen lette ik op het volk en de priesteren, en vond aldaar geen van de kinderen van Levi. 16Zo zond ik tot Eliezer, tot Ariel, tot Semaja, en tot Elnathan, en tot Jarib, en tot Elnathan, en tot Nathan, en tot Zacharja, en tot Mesullam, de hoofden; en tot Jojarib en tot Elnathan, de leraars; 17En ik gaf hun bevel aan Iddo, het hoofd in de plaats Chasifja; en ik legde de woorden in hun mond, om te zeggen tot Iddo, zijn broeder, en de Nethinim, in de plaats Chasifja, dat zij ons brachten dienaars voor het huis onzes Gods. 18En zij brachten ons, naar de goede hand onzes Gods over ons, een man van verstand, van de kinderen van Mahli, den zoon van Levi, den zoon van Israel; namelijk Serebja, met zijn zonen en broederen, achttien; 19En Hasabja, en met hem Jesaja, van de kinderen van Merari, met zijn broederen, en hun zonen, twintig; 20En van Nethinim, die David en de vorsten ten dienste der Levieten gegeven hadden, tweehonderd en twintig Nethinim, die allen bij namen genoemd werden. 21Toen riep ik aldaar een vasten uit aan de rivier Ahava, opdat wij ons verootmoedigden voor het aangezicht onzes Gods, om van Hem te verzoeken een rechten weg, voor ons, en voor onze kinderkens, en voor al onze have. 22Want ik schaamde mij van den koning een heir en ruiters te begeren, om ons te helpen van den vijand, op den weg; omdat wij tot den koning hadden gesproken, zeggende: De hand onzes Gods is ten goede over allen, die Hem zoeken, maar Zijn sterkte en Zijn toorn over allen, die Hem verlaten. 23Alzo vastten wij; en verzochten zulks van onzen God; en Hij liet zich van ons verbidden. 24Toen scheidde ik twaalf uit van de oversten der priesteren: Serebja Hasabja, en tien van hun broederen met hen. 25En ik woog hun toe het zilver, en het goud, en de vaten, zijnde de offering van het huis onzes Gods die de koning en zijn raadsheren, en zijn vorsten, en gans Israel, die er gevonden werden, geofferd hadden; 26Ik woog dan aan hun hand zeshonderd en vijftig talenten zilvers, en honderd zilveren vaten in talenten; aan goud, honderd talenten; 27En twintig gouden bekers, tot duizend drachmen; en twee vaten van blinkend goed koper, begeerlijk als goud. 28En ik zeide tot hen: Gij zijt heilig den HEERE, en deze vaten zijn heilig; ook dit zilver en dit goud, de vrijwillige gave, den HEERE, den God uwer vaderen. 29Waakt en bewaart het, totdat gij het opweegt, in tegenwoordigheid van de oversten der priesteren en Levieten, en der vorsten der vaderen van Israel, te Jeruzalem, in de kameren van des HEEREN huis. 30Toen ontvingen de priesters en de Levieten het gewicht des zilvers en des gouds, en der vaten, om te brengen te Jeruzalem, ten huize onzes Gods. 31Alzo verreisden wij van de rivier Ahava, op den twaalfden der eerste maand, om te gaan naar Jeruzalem; en de hand onzes Gods was over ons, en redde ons van de hand des vijands, en desgenen, die ons lagen legde op den weg. 32En wij kwamen te Jeruzalem; en wij bleven aldaar drie dagen. 33Op den vierden dag nu werd gewogen het zilver, en het goud, en de vaten, in het huis onzes Gods, aan de hand van Meremoth, den zoon van Uria, den priester, en met hem Eleazar, de zoon van Pinehas; en met hem Jozabad, de zoon van Jesua, en Noadja, de zoon van Binnui, de Levieten. 34Naar het getal en naar het gewicht van dat alles; en het ganse gewicht werd ter zelfder tijd opgeschreven. 35En de weggevoerden, die uit de gevangenis gekomen waren, offerden den God Israels brandofferen; twaalf varren voor gans Israel, zes en negentig rammen, zeven en zeventig lammeren, twaalf bokken ten zondoffer; alles ten brandoffer den HEERE. 36Daarna gaven zij de wetten des konings aan des konings stadhouders en landvoogden aan deze zijde der rivier; en zij bevorderden het volk en het huis Gods.
