1Ndipo Bwana akamwambia Mose, “Nenda kwa Farao ukamwambie, ‘Hili ndilo Bwana, Mungu wa Waebrania asemalo: “Waachie watu wangu waende ili wapate kuniabudu.” 2Kama ukikataa kuwaachia waende, nawe ukiendelea kuwashikilia, 3mkono wa Bwana utaleta pigo baya kwa mifugo yako, juu ya farasi wako, punda, ngamia, ngʼombe wako, kondoo na mbuzi. 4Lakini Bwana ataweka tofauti kati ya mifugo ya Israeli na ile ya Misri, kwamba hakuna mnyama wa Mwisraeli atakayekufa.’” 5Bwana akaweka wakati na kusema, “Kesho Bwana atalitenda hili katika nchi.” 6Siku iliyofuata Bwana akalitenda: Mifugo yote ya Wamisri ikafa, lakini hakuna hata mnyama mmoja wa wana wa Israeli aliyekufa. 7Farao akatuma watu kuchunguza, nao wakakuta kuwa hakuna hata mnyama mmoja wa Waisraeli aliyekufa. Lakini moyo wa Farao haukukubali kuwaachia watu waende. 8Kisha Bwana akamwambia Mose na Aroni, “Chukueni majivu ya tanuru, naye Mose ayarushe angani mbele ya Farao. 9Yatakuwa vumbi jepesi juu ya nchi yote ya Misri, pia yatatokea majipu yenye kufura juu ya watu na wanyama katika nchi yote.” 10Basi wakachukua majivu kwenye tanuru na kusimama mbele ya Farao. Mose akayarusha hewani, nayo majipu yenye kufura yakatokea miilini mwa watu na wanyama. 11Waganga hawakuweza kusimama mbele ya Mose kwa sababu ya majipu yale yaliyokuwa miilini mwao na juu ya miili ya Wamisri wote. 12Lakini Bwana akaufanya moyo wa Farao kuwa mgumu, naye hakuwasikiliza Mose na Aroni, sawasawa kama vile Bwana alivyokuwa amemwambia Mose. 13Kisha Bwana akamwambia Mose, “Amka mapema asubuhi, usimame mbele ya Farao, umwambie, ‘Hili ndilo asemalo Bwana, Mungu wa Waebrania: Waachie watu wangu waende, ili kwamba waweze kuniabudu, 14au wakati huu nitaleta mapigo yangu yenye nguvu dhidi yako, maafisa wako na watu wako, ili upate kujua kuwa hakuna mwingine kama Mimi katika dunia yote. 15Kwa kuwa mpaka sasa ningelikuwa nimenyoosha mkono wangu na kukupiga wewe na watu wako kwa pigo ambalo lingekufutilia mbali juu ya nchi. 16Lakini nimekuinua wewe kwa kusudi hili hasa, ili nipate kukuonyesha uwezo wangu, na ili Jina langu lipate kutangazwa duniani yote. 17Bado unaendelea kujiinua juu ya watu wangu, wala hutaki kuwaachia waende. 18Kwa hiyo, kesho wakati kama huu nitaleta mvua mbaya sana ya mawe ambayo haijapata kunyesha katika nchi ya Misri, tangu siku ilipoumbwa mpaka leo. 19Sasa toa amri urudishe wanyama wote watoke malishoni na chochote ambacho kipo mashambani waje mpaka mahali pa usalama, kwa sababu mvua ya mawe itanyesha juu ya kila mtu na kila mnyama ambaye hajaletwa ndani ambao bado wako nje mashambani, nao watakufa.’” 20Wale maafisa wa Farao ambao waliliogopa neno la Bwana wakafanya haraka kuwaleta watumwa wao na mifugo yao ndani. 21Lakini wale waliopuuza neno la Bwana wakawaacha watumwa wao na mifugo yao shambani. 22Ndipo Bwana akamwambia Mose, “Nyoosha mkono wako kuelekea angani ili kwamba mvua ya mawe inyeshe juu ya Misri yote, juu ya watu, wanyama na juu ya kila kitu kiotacho katika mashamba ya Misri.” 23Mose alipoinyoosha fimbo yake kuelekea angani, Bwana akatuma ngurumo na mvua ya mawe, umeme wa radi ulimulika hadi nchi. Kwa hiyo Bwana akaifanya mvua ya mawe kunyesha juu ya nchi ya Misri, 24mvua ya mawe ikanyesha na radi ikamulika pote. Ikawa dhoruba ya kutisha ambayo haijakuwako katika nchi ya Misri, tangu nchi hiyo iwe taifa. 25Mvua ya mawe ikaharibu kila kitu katika nchi ya Misri kilichokuwa katika mashamba, watu na wanyama, ikaharibu kila kitu kinachoota mashambani na kuvunja kila mti. 26Mahali pekee ambapo mvua ya mawe haikunyesha ni nchi ya Gosheni, ambako Waisraeli waliishi. 27Ndipo Farao akawaita Mose na Aroni akawaambia, “Wakati huu nimetenda dhambi. Bwana ni mwenye haki, mimi na watu wangu ni wakosaji. 28Mwombeni Bwana, kwa kuwa tumepata ngurumo na mvua za mawe za kututosha. Nitawaachia mwondoke; hamtahitaji kungoja zaidi.” 29Mose akamjibu, “Nitakapokuwa nimetoka nje ya mji, nitanyoosha mikono yangu juu kumwomba Bwana. Ngurumo zitakoma na hapatakuwepo mvua ya mawe tena, ili upate kujua kuwa, nchi ni mali ya Bwana. 30Lakini ninajua kuwa wewe na maafisa wako bado hammwogopi Bwana Mungu.” 31(Kitani na shayiri viliharibiwa, kwa kuwa shayiri ilikuwa na masuke, na kitani ilikuwa katika kutoa maua. 32Hata hivyo, ngano na jamii nyingine ya ngano hazikuharibiwa kwa sababu zilikuwa hazijakomaa bado.) 33Kisha Mose akaondoka kwa Farao akaenda nje ya mji. Mose akanyoosha mikono yake kuelekea kwa Bwana, ngurumo na mvua ya mawe vikakoma, mvua haikuendelea tena kunyesha nchini. 34Farao alipoona kwamba mvua ya mawe na ngurumo zimekoma, akafanya dhambi tena. Yeye na maafisa wake wakafanya mioyo yao kuwa migumu. 35Kwa hiyo moyo wa Farao ukawa mgumu, wala hakuwaachia Waisraeli waende, kama vile Bwana alivyokuwa amesema kupitia Mose.
1Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, and tell him, ‘This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: “Let my people go, that they may serve me. 2For if you refuse to let them go, and hold them still, 3behold, the hand of Yahweh is on your livestock which are in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the herds, and on the flocks with a very grievous pestilence. 4Yahweh will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt; and nothing shall die of all that belongs to the children of Israel.”’” 5Yahweh appointed a set time, saying, “Tomorrow Yahweh shall do this thing in the land.” 6Yahweh did that thing on the next day; and all the livestock of Egypt died, but of the livestock of the children of Israel, not one died. 7Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not so much as one of the livestock of the Israelites dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was stubborn, and he didn’t let the people go. 8Yahweh said to Moses and to Aaron, “Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the sky in the sight of Pharaoh. 9It shall become small dust over all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking out with boils on man and on animal, throughout all the land of Egypt.” 10They took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward the sky; and it became a boil breaking out with boils on man and on animal. 11The magicians couldn’t stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boils were on the magicians, and on all the Egyptians. 12Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he didn’t listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken to Moses. 13Yahweh said to Moses, “Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and tell him, ‘This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: “Let my people go, that they may serve me. 14For this time I will send all my plagues against your heart, against your officials, and against your people; that you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth. 15For now I would have stretched out my hand, and struck you and your people with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the earth; 16but indeed for this cause I have made you stand: to show you my power, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth; 17as you still exalt yourself against my people, that you won’t let them go. 18Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as has not been in Egypt since the day it was founded even until now. 19Now therefore command that all of your livestock and all that you have in the field be brought into shelter. Every man and animal that is found in the field, and isn’t brought home, the hail shall come down on them, and they shall die.”’” 20Those who feared Yahweh’s word among the servants of Pharaoh made their servants and their livestock flee into the houses. 21Whoever didn’t respect Yahweh’s word left his servants and his livestock in the field. 22Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, on man, and on animal, and on every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.” 23Moses stretched out his rod toward the heavens, and Yahweh sent thunder, hail, and lightning flashed down to the earth. Yahweh rained hail on the land of Egypt. 24So there was very severe hail, and lightning mixed with the hail, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 25The hail struck throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and animal; and the hail struck every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field. 26Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, there was no hail. 27Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “I have sinned this time. Yahweh is righteous, and I and my people are wicked. 28Pray to Yahweh; for there has been enough of mighty thunderings and hail. I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer.” 29Moses said to him, “As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands to Yahweh. The thunders shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that you may know that the earth is Yahweh’s. 30But as for you and your servants, I know that you don’t yet fear Yahweh God.” 31The flax and the barley were struck, for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was in bloom. 32But the wheat and the spelt were not struck, for they had not grown up. 33Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands to Yahweh; and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured on the earth. 34When Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants. 35The heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he didn’t let the children of Israel go, just as Yahweh had spoken through Moses.

Doch het hart van Farao werd verzwaard, en hij liet het volk niet trekken. 8Toen zeide de HEERE tot Mozes en tot Aaron: Neemt gijlieden uw vuisten vol as uit den oven; en Mozes strooie die naar de hemel voor de ogen van Farao. 9En zij zal tot klein stof worden over het ganse Egypteland; en zij zal aan de mensen, en aan het vee worden tot zweren, uitbrekende met blaren, in het ganse Egypteland. 10En zij namen as uit den oven, en stonden voor Farao's aangezicht; en Mozes strooide die naar den hemel; toen werden er zweren, uitbrekende met blaren, aan de mensen en aan het vee; 11Alzo dat de tovenaars voor Mozes niet staan konden, vanwege de zweren; want aan de tovenaars waren zweren, en aan al de Egyptenaren. 12Doch de HEERE verstokte Farao's hart, dat hij naar hen niet hoorde, gelijk de HEERE tot Mozes gesproken had. 13Toen zeide de HEERE tot Mozes: Maak u morgen vroeg op, en stel u voor Farao's aangezicht, en zeg tot hem: Zo zegt de HEERE, de God der Hebreen: Laat Mijn volk trekken, dat zij Mij dienen. 14Want ditmaal zal Ik al Mijn plagen in uw hart zenden, en over uw knechten, en over uw volk, opdat gij weet, dat er niemand is gelijk Ik, op de ganse aarde. 15Want nu heb Ik Mijn hand uitgestrekt, opdat Ik u en uw volk met de pestilentie zou slaan, en dat gij van de aarde zoudt verdelgd worden. 16Maar waarlijk, daarom heb Ik u verwekt, opdat Ik Mijn kracht aan u betoonde, en opdat men Mijn Naam vertelle op de ganse aarde. 17Verheft gij uzelven nog tegen Mijn volk, dat gij het niet wilt laten trekken? 18Zie, Ik zal morgen omtrent dezen tijd een zeer zware hagel doen regenen, desgelijks in Egypte niet geweest is van dien dag af, dat het gegrond is, tot nu toe. 19En nu, zend heen, vergader uw vee, en alles wat gij op het veld hebt; alle mens en gedierte, dat op het veld gevonden zal worden, en niet in huis verzameld zal zijn, als deze hagel op hen vallen zal, zo zullen zij sterven. 20Wie onder Farao's knechten des HEEREN woord vreesde, die deed zijn knechten en zijn vee in de huizen vlieden; 21Doch die zijn hart niet zette tot des HEEREN woord, die liet zijn knechten en zijn vee op het veld. 22Toen zeide de HEERE tot Mozes: Strek uw hand uit naar den hemel, en er zal hagel zijn in het ganse Egypteland; over de mensen, en over het vee, en over al het kruid des velds in Egypteland. 23Toen strekte Mozes zijn staf naar den hemel; en de HEERE gaf donder en hagel, en het vuur schoot naar de aarde; en de HEERE liet hagel regenen over Egypteland. 24En er was hagel, en vuur in het midden des hagels vervangen; hij was zeer zwaar; desgelijks is in het ganse Egypteland nooit geweest, sedert het tot een volk geweest is. 25En de hagel sloeg, in het ganse Egypteland, alles wat op het veld was, van de mensen af tot de beesten toe; ook sloeg de hagel al het kruid des velds, en verbrak al het geboomte des velds. 26Alleen in het land Gosen, waar de kinderen Israels waren, daar was geen hagel. 27Toen schikte Farao heen, en hij riep Mozes en Aaron, en zeide tot hen: Ik heb mij ditmaal verzondigd; de HEERE is rechtvaardig; ik daarentegen en mijn volk zijn goddelozen! 28Bidt vuriglijk tot den HEERE (want het is genoeg), dat geen donder Gods noch hagel meer zij; dan zal ik ulieden trekken laten, en gij zult niet langer blijven. 29Toen zeide Mozes tot hem: Wanneer ik ter stad uitgegaan zal zijn, zo zal ik mijn handen uitbreiden voor den HEERE; de donder zal ophouden, en de hagel zal niet meer zijn; opdat gij weet, dat de aarde des HEEREN is! 30Nochtans u en uw knechten aangaande, weet ik, dat gijlieden voor het aangezicht van den HEERE God nog niet vrezen zult. 31Het vlas nu, en de gerst werd geslagen; want de gerst was in de aar, en het vlas was in den halm. 32Maar de tarwe en de spelt werden niet geslagen; want zij waren bedekt. 33Zo ging Mozes van Farao ter stad uit, en breidde zijn handen tot den HEERE; de donder en de hagel hielden op, en de regen werd niet meer uitgegoten op de aarde. 34Toen Farao zag, dat de regen en hagel, en de donder ophielden, zo verzondigde hij zich verder, en hij verzwaarde zijn hart, hij en zijn knechten. 35Alzo werd Farao's hart verstokt, dat hij de kinderen Israels niet trekken liet, gelijk als de HEERE gesproken had door Mozes.
