1Wafilisti wakakusanya majeshi yao yote huko Afeki, nao Waisraeli wakapiga kambi karibu na chemchemi iliyoko Yezreeli. 2Watawala wa Wafilisti walipokuwa wakipita pamoja na vikosi vyao vya mamia na vya maelfu, Daudi na watu wake walikuwa wakitembea huko nyuma pamoja na Akishi. 3Majemadari wa Wafilisti wakauliza, “Vipi kuhusu hawa Waebrania?” Akishi akajibu, “Huyu si Daudi, aliyekuwa afisa wa Sauli mfalme wa Israeli? Ameshakuwa pamoja nami kwa zaidi ya mwaka, naye tangu alipomwacha Sauli hadi sasa, sikuona kosa lolote kwake.” 4Lakini majemadari wa Wafilisti wakamkasirikia na kusema, “Mrudishe mtu huyu, apate kurudi mahali pale ulipompangia. Haimpasi kufuatana pamoja nasi vitani, asije akageuka, akawa kinyume chetu vitani. Ni kwa njia ipi bora zaidi angeweza kujipatia tena kibali kwa bwana wake, isipokuwa kwa vichwa vya watu wetu wenyewe? 5Je, huyu si ndiye Daudi walioimba kumhusu katika ngoma zao, wakisema: “‘Sauli amewaua elfu zake, naye Daudi makumi elfu yake’?” 6Basi Akishi akamwita Daudi na kumwambia, “Kama vile Bwana aishivyo, wewe umekuwa mtu mwaminifu, nami ningependa utumike pamoja nami katika jeshi. Tangu siku ile uliyofika kwangu hadi sasa, sijaona kosa lolote kwako, lakini hao watawala hawakukubali. 7Rudi na uende kwa amani; usifanye chochote cha kuwakasirisha watawala wa Kifilisti.” 8Daudi akamuuliza Akishi, “Lakini mimi nimefanya nini? Je, umeona nini kibaya juu ya mtumishi wako tangu siku ile niliyokuja kwako hadi leo? Kwa nini nisirudi na kupigana na adui za bwana wangu mfalme?” 9Akishi akamjibu Daudi, “Mimi ninajua ya kuwa wewe umekuwa wa kupendeza machoni pangu kama vile malaika wa Mungu. Lakini hao majemadari wa Wafilisti wamesema, ‘Huyu haimpasi kwenda vitani pamoja nasi.’ 10Sasa amka mapema, pamoja na watumishi wa bwana wako waliofuatana nawe, nanyi ondokeni asubuhi mara kutakapopambazuka.” 11Hivyo Daudi na watu wake wakaamka asubuhi na mapema, wakaenda zao kurudi katika nchi ya Wafilisti, nao Wafilisti wakapanda kwenda Yezreeli.
1Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the Israelites encamped by the spring which is in Jezreel. 2The lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands; and David and his men passed on in the rear with Achish. 3Then the princes of the Philistines said, “What about these Hebrews?” Achish said to the princes of the Philistines, “Isn’t this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who has been with me these days, or rather these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell away to this day?” 4But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him; and the princes of the Philistines said to him, “Make the man return, that he may go back to his place where you have appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For with what should this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Should it not be with the heads of these men? 5Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying, ‘Saul has slain his thousands, David his ten thousands?’” 6Then Achish called David, and said to him, “As Yahweh lives, you have been upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight; for I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords don’t favor you. 7Therefore now return, and go in peace, that you not displease the lords of the Philistines.” 8David said to Achish, “But what have I done? What have you found in your servant so long as I have been before you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?” 9Achish answered David, “I know that you are good in my sight, as an angel of God. Notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said, ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’ 10Therefore now rise up early in the morning with the servants of your lord who have come with you; and as soon as you are up early in the morning, and have light, depart.” 11So David rose up early, he and his men, to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. The Philistines went up to Jezreel.
1De Filistijnen nu hadden al hun legers vergaderd te Afek; en de Israelieten legerden zich bij de fontein, die bij Jizreel is. 2En de vorsten der Filistijnen togen daarheen met honderden, en met duizenden; doch David met zijn mannen togen met Achis in den achtertocht. 3Toen zeiden de oversten der Filistijnen: Wat zullen deze Hebreen? Zo zeide Achis tot de oversten der Filistijnen: Is deze niet David, de knecht van Saul, den koning van Israel, die deze dagen of deze jaren bij mij geweest is? En ik heb in hem niets gevonden van dien dag af, dat hij afgevallen is tot dezen dag toe. 4Doch de oversten der Filistijnen werden zeer toornig op hem, en de oversten der Filistijnen zeiden tot hem: Doe den man wederkeren, dat hij tot zijn plaats wederkere, waar gij hem besteld hebt, en dat hij niet met ons aftrekke in den strijd, opdat hij ons niet tot een tegenpartijder worde in den strijd; want waarmede zou deze zich bij zijn heer aangenaam maken? Is het niet met de hoofden dezer mannen? 5Is dit niet die David, van denwelken zij in den rei elkander antwoordden, zeggende: Saul heeft zijn duizenden geslagen, maar David zijn tienduizenden? 6Toen riep Achis David, en zeide tot hem: Het is zo waarachtig als de HEERE leeft, dat gij oprecht zijt, en uw uitgang en uw ingang met mij in het leger is goed in mijn ogen; want ik heb geen kwaad bij u gevonden, van dien dag af, dat gij tot mij zijt gekomen, tot dezen dag toe; maar gij zijt niet aangenaam in de ogen der vorsten. 7Zo keer nu om, en ga in vrede, opdat gij geen kwaad doet in de ogen van de vorsten der Filistijnen. 8Toen zeide David tot Achis: Maar wat heb ik gedaan? Of wat hebt gij in uw knecht gevonden, van dien dag af, dat ik voor uw aangezicht geweest ben, tot dezen dag toe, dat ik niet zal gaan en strijden tegen de vijanden van mijn heer, den koning? 9Achis nu antwoordde en zeide tot David: Ik weet het; voorwaar, gij zijt aangenaam in mijn ogen, als een engel Gods; maar de oversten der Filistijnen hebben gezegd: Laat hem met ons in dezen strijd niet optrekken. 10Nu dan, maak u morgen vroeg op met de knechten uws heren, die met u gekomen zijn; en als gijlieden u morgen vroeg zult opgemaakt hebben, en het ulieden licht geworden is, zo gaat heen. 11Toen maakte zich David vroeg op, hij en zijn mannen, dat zij des morgens weggingen, om weder te keren in het land der Filistijnen; de Filistijnen daarentegen togen op naar Jizreel.
