1Estas são as palavras do pacto que o SENHOR mandou que Moisés fizesse com os filhos de Israel na terra de Moabe, além do pacto que estabeleceu com eles em Horebe. 2Moisés, pois, chamou a todo Israel, e disse-lhes: Vós vistes tudo o que o SENHOR fez diante vossos olhos na terra do Egito a Faraó e a todos os seus servos, e a toda sua terra: 3As provas grandes que viram teus olhos, o sinais, e as grandes maravilhas. 4E o SENHOR não vos deu coração para entender, nem olhos para ver, nem ouvidos para ouvir, até o dia de hoje. 5E eu vos trouxe quarenta anos pelo deserto: vossas roupas não se hão envelhecido sobre vós, nem teu sapato se envelheceu sobre teu pé. 6Não comestes pão, nem bebestes vinho nem bebida forte: para que soubestes que eu sou o SENHOR vosso Deus. 7E chegastes a este lugar, e saiu Seom rei de Hesbom, e Ogue rei de Basã, diante de nós para lutar, e os ferimos; 8E tomamos sua terra, e a demos por herança a Rúben e a Gade, e à meia tribo de Manassés. 9Guardareis, pois, as palavras deste pacto, e as poreis por obra, para que prospereis em tudo o que fizerdes. 10Vós todos estais hoje diante do SENHOR vosso Deus; vossos príncipes de vossas tribos, vossos anciãos, e vossos oficiais, todos os homens de Israel, 11Vossas crianças, vossas mulheres, e teus estrangeiros que habitam em meio de teu campo, desde o que corta tua lenha até o que tira tuas águas: 12Para que entres no pacto do SENHOR teu Deus, e em seu juramento, que o SENHOR teu Deus estabelece hoje contigo: 13Para te confirmar hoje por seu povo, e que ele seja a ti por Deus, da maneira que ele te disse, e como ele jurou a teus pais Abraão, Isaque, e Jacó. 14E não somente convosco estabeleço eu este pacto e este juramento, 15Mas sim com os que estão aqui presentes hoje conosco diante do SENHOR nosso Deus, e com os que não estão aqui hoje conosco. 16Porque vós sabeis como habitamos na terra do Egito, e como passamos por meio das nações que passastes; 17E vistes suas abominações e seus ídolos, madeira e pedra, prata e ouro, que têm consigo. 18Para que não haja entre vós homem, ou mulher, ou família, ou tribo, cujo coração se volte hoje de com o SENHOR nosso Deus, por andar a servir aos deuses daquelas nações; que não haja em vós raiz que lance veneno e amargura; 19E seja que, quando o tal ouvir as palavras desta maldição, ele se abençoe em seu coração, dizendo: Terei paz, ainda que ande segundo o pensamento de meu coração, para acrescentar a embriaguez à sede: 20O SENHOR se recusará a lhe perdoar; antes fumegará logo o furor do SENHOR e seu zelo sobre o tal homem, e se assentará sobre ele toda maldição escrita neste livro, e o SENHOR apagará seu nome de debaixo do céu: 21E o SENHOR o separará de todas as tribos de Israel para o mal, conforme todas as maldições do pacto escrito neste livro da lei. 22E dirá a geração vindoura, vossos filhos que virão depois de vós, e o estrangeiro que virá de distantes terras, quando virem as pragas desta terra, e suas enfermidades de que o SENHOR a fez enfermar, 23(Enxofre e sal, abrasada toda sua terra: não será semeada, nem produzirá, nem crescerá nela erva nenhuma, como na destruição de Sodoma e de Gomorra, de Admá e de Zeboim, que o SENHOR destruiu em seu furor e em sua ira:) 24Dirão, pois, todas as nações: Por que fez o SENHOR isto a esta terra? Que ira é esta de tão grande furor? 25E responderão. Porquanto deixaram o pacto do SENHOR o Deus de seus pais, que ele estabeleceu com eles quando os tirou da terra do Egito, 26E foram e serviram a deuses alheios, e inclinaram-se a eles, deuses que não conheciam, e que nenhuma coisa lhes haviam dado: 27Acendeu-se portanto, o furor do SENHOR contra esta terra, para trazer sobre ela todas as maldições escritas nesta livro; 28E o SENHOR os desarraigou de sua terra com ira, e com indignação, e com furor grande, e os expulsou a outra terra, como hoje. 29As coisas secretas pertencem ao SENHOR nosso Deus: mas as reveladas são para nós e para nossos filhos para sempre, para que cumpramos todas as palavras desta lei.
1These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant which he made with them in Horeb. 2Moses called to all Israel, and said to them: Your eyes have seen all that Yahweh did in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land; 3the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders. 4But Yahweh has not given you a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day. 5I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not grown old on you, and your shoes have not grown old on your feet. 6You have not eaten bread, neither have you drunk wine or strong drink; that you may know that I am Yahweh your God. 7When you came to this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us to battle, and we struck them. 8We took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites. 9Therefore keep the words of this covenant and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do. 10All of you stand this day in the presence of Yahweh your God; your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel, 11your little ones, your wives, and the foreigners who are in the midst of your camps, from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water; 12that you may enter into the covenant of Yahweh your God, and into his oath, which Yahweh your God makes with you this day; 13that he may establish you this day as his people, and that he may be your God, as he spoke to you, and as he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 14Neither do I make this covenant and this oath with you only, 15but with those who stand here with us this day before Yahweh our God, and also with those who are not here with us this day 16(for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you passed; 17and you have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them); 18lest there should be among you man, woman, family, or tribe whose heart turns away this day from Yahweh our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that produces bitter poison; 19and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, “I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to destroy the moist with the dry.” 20Yahweh will not pardon him, but then Yahweh’s anger and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all of the curse that is written in this book will fall on him, and Yahweh will blot out his name from under the sky. 21Yahweh will set him apart for evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all of the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law. 22The generation to come, your children who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a far land, will say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which Yahweh has made it sick; 23and that all of its land is sulfur, salt, and burning, that it is not sown, doesn’t produce, nor does any grass grow in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath; 24even all the nations will say, “Why has Yahweh done thus to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?” 25Then men will say, “Because they abandoned the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, 26and went and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods that they didn’t know, and that he had not given to them. 27Therefore Yahweh’s anger was kindled against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book. 28Yahweh rooted them out of their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and thrust them into another land, as at this day.” 29The secret things belong to Yahweh our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
1Dit zijn de woorden des verbonds, dat de HEERE Mozes geboden heeft te maken met de kinderen Israels, in het land van Moab, boven het verbond, dat Hij met hen gemaakt had aan Horeb. 2En Mozes riep gans Israel, en zeide tot hen: Gij hebt gezien al wat de HEERE in Egypteland voor uw ogen gedaan heeft, aan Farao, en aan al zijn knechten, en aan zijn land; 3De grote verzoekingen, die uw ogen gezien hebben, diezelve tekenen en grote wonderen. 4Maar de HEERE heeft ulieden niet gegeven een hart om te verstaan, noch ogen om te zien, noch oren om te horen, tot op dezen dag. 5En Ik heb ulieden veertig jaren doen wandelen in de woestijn; uw klederen zijn aan u niet verouderd, en uw schoen is niet verouderd aan uw voet. 6Brood hebt gij niet gegeten, en wijn en sterken drank hebt gij niet gedronken; opdat gij wistet, dat Ik de HEERE, uw God, ben. 7Toen gij nu kwaamt aan deze plaats, toog Sihon, de koning van Hesbon, uit, en Og, de koning van Bazan, ons tegemoet, ten strijde; en wij sloegen hen. 8En wij hebben hun land ingenomen, en dat ten erve gegeven aan de Rubenieten en Gadieten, mitsgaders aan den halven stam der Manassieten. 9Houdt dan de woorden dezes verbonds, en doet ze; opdat gij verstandelijk handelt in alles, wat gij doen zult. 10Gij staat heden allen voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, uws Gods: uw hoofden uwer stammen, uw oudsten, en uw ambtlieden, alle man van Israel; 11Uw kinderkens, uw vrouwen, en uw vreemdeling, die in het midden van uw leger is, van uw houthouwer tot uw waterputter toe; 12Om over te gaan in het verbond des HEEREN, uws Gods, en in Zijn vloek, hetwelk de HEERE, uw God, heden met u maakt; 13Opdat Hij u heden Zichzelven tot een volk bevestige, en Hij u tot een God zij, gelijk als Hij tot u gesproken heeft, en gelijk als Hij uw vaderen, Abraham, Izak en Jakob, gezworen heeft. 14En niet met ulieden alleen maak ik dit verbond en dezen vloek; 15Maar met dengene, die heden hier bij ons voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, onzes Gods, staat; en met dengene, die hier heden bij ons niet is. 16Want gij weet, hoe wij in Egypteland gewoond hebben, en hoe wij doorgetogen zijn door het midden der volken, die gij doorgetogen zijt. 17En gij hebt gezien hun verfoeiselen, en hun drekgoden, hout en steen, zilver en goud, die bij hen waren. 18Dat onder ulieden niet zij een man, of vrouw, of huisgezin, of stam, die zijn hart heden wende van den HEERE, onzen God, om te gaan dienen de goden dezer volken; dat onder ulieden niet zij een wortel, die gal en alsem drage; 19En het geschiede, als hij de woorden dezes vloeks hoort, dat hij zichzelven zegene in zijn hart, zeggende: Ik zal vrede hebben, wanneer ik schoon naar mijns harten goeddunken zal wandelen, om den dronkene te doen tot den dorstige. 20De HEERE zal hem niet willen vergeven; maar alsdan zal des HEEREN toorn en ijver roken over denzelven man, en al de vloek, die in dit boek geschreven is, zal op hem liggen; en de HEERE zal zijn naam van onder den hemel uitdelgen. 21En de HEERE zal hem ten kwade afscheiden van al de stammen Israels, naar alle vloeken des verbonds, dat in het boek dezer wet geschreven is. 22Dan zal zeggen het navolgend geslacht, uw kinderen, die na ulieden opstaan zullen, en de vreemde, die uit verren lande komen zal, als zij zullen zien de plagen dezes lands en deszelfs krankheden, waarmede de HEERE het gekrenkt heeft; 23Dat zijn ganse aarde zij zwavel en zout der verbranding; die niet bezaaid zal zijn, en geen spruit zal voortgebracht hebben, noch enig kruid daarin zal opgekomen zijn; gelijk de omkering van Sodom en Gomorra, Adama en Zeboim, die de HEERE heeft omgekeerd in Zijn toorn en in Zijn grimmigheid; 24En alle volken zullen zeggen: Waarom heeft de HEERE aan dit land alzo gedaan? Wat is de ontsteking van dezen groten toorn? 25Dan zal men zeggen: Omdat zij het verbond des HEEREN, des Gods hunner vaderen, hebben verlaten, dat Hij met hen gemaakt had, als Hij hen uit Egypteland uitvoerde; 26En zij heengegaan zijn, en andere goden gediend en zich voor die gebogen hebben; goden, die hen niet gekend hadden, en geen van welke hun iets medegedeeld had; 27Daarom is de toorn des HEEREN ontstoken tegen dit land, om daarover te brengen al dezen vloek, die in dit boek geschreven is. 28En de HEERE heeft hen uit hun land uitgetrokken, in toorn, en in grimmigheid, en in grote verbolgenheid; en Hij heeft hen verworpen in een ander land, gelijk het is te dezen dage. 29De verborgene dingen zijn voor den HEERE, onzen God; maar de geopenbaarde zijn voor ons en voor onze kinderen, tot in eeuwigheid, om te doen al de woorden dezer wet.
