1E os filisteus, depois de tomarem a arca de Deus, trouxeram-na desde Ebenézer a Asdode. 2E tomaram os filisteus a arca de Deus, e meteram-na na casa de Dagom, e puseram-na junto a Dagom. 3E o seguinte dia os de Asdode se levantaram de manhã, e eis Dagom prostrado em terra diante da arca do SENHOR: e tomaram a Dagom, e voltaram-no a seu lugar. 4E voltando-se a levantar de manhã o dia seguinte, eis que Dagom havia caído prostrado em terra diante da arca do SENHOR; e a cabeça de Dagom, e as duas palmas de suas mãos estavam cortadas sobre o umbral, havendo restado a Dagom o tronco somente. 5Por esta causa os sacerdotes de Dagom, e todos os que no templo de Dagom entram, não pisam o umbral de Dagom em Asdode, até hoje. 6Porém agravou-se a mão do SENHOR sobre os de Asdode, e assolou-os, e feriu-os com chagas em Asdode e em todos seus termos. 7E vendo isto os de Asdode, disseram: Não fique conosco a arca do Deus de Israel, porque sua mão é dura sobre nós, e sobre nosso deus Dagom. 8Mandaram, pois, juntar a si todos os príncipes dos filisteus, e disseram: Que faremos da arca do Deus de Israel? E eles responderam: Passe-se a arca do Deus de Israel a Gate. E passaram ali a arca do Deus de Israel. 9E aconteceu que quando a houveram passado, a mão do SENHOR foi contra a cidade com grande tormento; e feriu os homens daquela cidade desde o pequeno até o grande, que se encheram de chagas. 10Então enviaram a arca de Deus a Ecrom. E quando a arca de Deus veio a Ecrom, os ecronitas deram vozes dizendo: Passaram a mim a arca do Deus de Israel para matar a mim e a meu povo. 11E enviaram a juntar todos os príncipes dos filisteus, dizendo: Despachai a arca do Deus de Israel, e torne-se a seu lugar, e não mate a mim nem a meu povo: porque havia tormento de morte em toda a cidade, e a mão de Deus se havia ali agravado. 12E os que não morriam, eram feridos de chagas; e o clamor da cidade subia ao céu.
1Now the Philistines had taken the ark of God, and they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. 2The Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. 3When they of Ashdod arose early on the next day, behold, Dagon was fallen on his face to the ground before Yahweh’s ark. They took Dagon, and set him in his place again. 4When they arose early on the next day morning, behold, Dagon was fallen on his face to the ground before Yahweh’s ark; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off on the threshold. Only Dagon’s torso was intact. 5Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any who come into Dagon’s house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod, to this day. 6But the hand of Yahweh was heavy on them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and struck them with tumors, even Ashdod and its borders. 7When the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, “The ark of the God of Israel shall not stay with us; for his hand is severe on us, and on Dagon our god.” 8They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines to them, and said, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?” They answered, “Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried over to Gath.” They carried the ark of the God of Israel there. 9It was so, that after they had carried it about, the hand of Yahweh was against the city with a very great confusion: and he struck the men of the city, both small and great; and tumors broke out on them. 10So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. As the ark of God came to Ekron, the Ekronites cried out, saying, “They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to kill us and our people.” 11They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, “Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to its own place, that it not kill us and our people.” For there was a deadly confusion throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there. 12The men who didn’t die were struck with the tumors; and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
1De Filistijnen nu namen de ark Gods, en zij brachten ze van Eben-Haezer tot Asdod. 2En de Filistijnen namen de ark Gods, en zij brachten ze in het huis van Dagon, en stelden ze bij Dagon. 3Maar als die van Asdod des anderen daags vroeg opstonden, ziet, zo was Dagon op zijn aangezicht ter aarde gevallen voor de ark des HEEREN. En zij namen Dagon en zetten hem weder op zijn plaats. 4Toen zij nu des anderen daags des morgens vroeg opstonden, ziet, Dagon lag op zijn aangezicht ter aarde gevallen voor de ark des HEEREN; maar het hoofd van Dagon, en de beide palmen zijner handen afgehouwen, aan den dorpel; alleenlijk was Dagon daarop overgebleven. 5Daarom treden de priesters van Dagon, en allen, die in het huis van Dagon komen, niet op den dorpel van Dagon te Asdod, tot op dezen dag. 6Doch de hand des HEEREN was zwaar over die van Asdod, en verwoestte hen; en Hij sloeg ze met spenen, Asdod en haar landpalen. 7Toen nu de mannen te Asdod zagen, dat het alzo toeging, zo zeiden zij: Dat de ark des Gods van Israel bij ons niet blijve; want Zijn hand is hard over ons, en over Dagon, onzen god. 8Daarom zonden zij heen, en verzamelden tot zich al de vorsten der Filistijnen, en zij zeiden: Wat zullen wij met de ark des Gods van Israel doen? En die zeiden: Dat de ark des Gods van Israel rondom Gath ga. Alzo droegen zij de ark des Gods van Israel rondom. 9En het geschiedde, nadat zij die hadden rondom gedragen, zo was de hand des HEEREN tegen die stad met een zeer grote kwelling; want Hij sloeg de lieden dier stad van den kleine tot den grote, en zij hadden spenen in de verborgene plaatsen. 10Toen zonden zij de ark Gods naar Ekron; maar het geschiedde, als de ark Gods te Ekron kwam, zo riepen die van Ekron, zeggende: Zij hebben de ark des Gods van Israel tot mij rondom gebracht, om mij en mijn volk te doden. 11En zij zonden heen, en vergaderden al de vorsten der Filistijnen, en zeiden: Zendt de ark des Gods van Israel heen, dat zij wederkere tot haar plaats, opdat zij mij en mijn volk niet dode; want er was een dodelijke kwelling in de ganse stad, en de hand Gods was er zeer zwaar. 12En de mensen, die niet stierven, werden geslagen met spenen, zodat het geschrei der stad opklom naar den hemel.
