1Poi vidi quando l’Agnello ebbe aperto uno dei sette suggelli; e udii una delle quattro creature viventi, che diceva con voce come di tuono: Vieni. 2E vidi, ed ecco un cavallo bianco; e colui che lo cavalcava aveva un arco; e gli fu data una corona, ed egli uscì fuori da vincitore, e per vincere. 3E quando ebbe aperto il secondo suggello, io udii la seconda creatura vivente che diceva: Vieni. 4E uscì fuori un altro cavallo, rosso; e a colui che lo cavalcava fu dato di toglier la pace dalla terra affinché gli uomini si uccidessero gli uni gli altri, e gli fu data una grande spada. 5E quando ebbe aperto il terzo suggello, io udii la terza creatura vivente che diceva: Vieni. Ed io vidi, ed ecco un cavallo nero; e colui che lo cavalcava aveva una bilancia in mano. 6E udii come una voce in mezzo alle quattro creature viventi che diceva: Una chènice di frumento per un denaro e tre chènici d’orzo per un denaro; e non danneggiare né l’olio né il vino. 7E quando ebbe aperto il quarto suggello, io udii la voce della quarta creatura vivente che diceva: Vieni. 8E io vidi, ed ecco un cavallo giallastro; e colui che lo cavalcava avea nome la Morte; e gli teneva dietro l’Ades. E fu loro data potestà sopra la quarta parte della terra di uccidere con la spada, con la fame, con la mortalità e con le fiere della terra. 9E quando ebbe aperto il quinto suggello, io vidi sotto l’altare le anime di quelli ch’erano stati uccisi per la parola di Dio e per la testimonianza che aveano resa; 10e gridarono con gran voce, dicendo: Fino a quando, o nostro Signore che sei santo e verace, non fai tu giudicio e non vendichi il nostro sangue su quelli che abitano sopra la terra? 11E a ciascun d’essi fu data una veste bianca e fu loro detto che si riposassero ancora un po’ di tempo, finché fosse completo il numero dei loro conservi e dei loro fratelli, che hanno ad essere uccisi come loro. 12Poi vidi quand’ebbe aperto il sesto suggello: e si fece un gran terremoto; e il sole divenne nero come un cilicio di crine, e tutta la luna diventò come sangue; 13e le stelle del cielo caddero sulla terra come quando un fico scosso da un gran vento lascia cadere i suoi fichi immaturi. 14E il cielo si ritrasse come una pergamena che si arrotola; e ogni montagna e ogni isola fu rimossa dal suo luogo. 15E i re della terra e i grandi e i capitani e i ricchi e i potenti e ogni servo e ogni libero si nascosero nelle spelonche e nelle rocce dei monti; 16e dicevano ai monti e alle rocce: Cadeteci addosso e nascondeteci dal cospetto di Colui che siede sul trono e dall’ira dell’Agnello; 17perché è venuto il gran giorno della sua ira, e chi può reggere in piè?
1I saw that the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying, as with a voice of thunder, “Come and see!” 2And behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow. A crown was given to him, and he came out conquering, and to conquer. 3When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come!” 4Another came out, a red horse. To him who sat on it was given power to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another. There was given to him a great sword. 5When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, “Come and see!” And behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a balance in his hand. 6I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A choenix of wheat for a denarius, and three choenix of barley for a denarius! Don’t damage the oil and the wine!” 7When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see!” 8And behold, a pale horse, and he who sat on it, his name was Death. Hades followed with him. Authority over one fourth of the earth, to kill with the sword, with famine, with death, and by the wild animals of the earth was given to him. 9When he opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been killed for the Word of God, and for the testimony of the Lamb which they had. 10They cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, Master, the holy and true, until you judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11A long white robe was given to each of them. They were told that they should rest yet for a while, until their fellow servants and their brothers, who would also be killed even as they were, should complete their course. 12I saw when he opened the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake. The sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became as blood. 13The stars of the sky fell to the earth, like a fig tree dropping its unripe figs when it is shaken by a great wind. 14The sky was removed like a scroll when it is rolled up. Every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15The kings of the earth, the princes, the commanding officers, the rich, the strong, and every slave and free person, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains. 16They told the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, 17for the great day of his wrath has come; and who is able to stand?”

En ik zag, en ziet, een zwart paard, en die daarop zat, had een weegschaal in zijn hand. 6En ik hoorde een stem in het midden van de vier dieren, die zeide: Een maatje tarwe voor een penning, en drie maatjes gerst voor een penning; en beschadig de olie en den wijn niet. 7En toen Het het vierde zegel geopend had, hoorde ik een stem van het vierde dier, die zeide: Kom en zie! 8En ik zag, en ziet, een vaal paard, en die daarop zat, zijn naam was de dood; en de hel volgde hem na. En hun werd macht gegeven om te doden tot het vierde deel der aarde, met zwaard, en met honger, en met den dood, en door de wilde beesten der aarde. 9En toen Het het vijfde zegel geopend had, zag ik onder het altaar de zielen dergenen, die gedood waren om het Woord Gods, en om de getuigenis, die zij hadden. 10En zij riepen met grote stem, zeggende: Hoelang, o heilige en waarachtige Heerser, oordeelt en wreekt Gij ons bloed niet van degenen, die op de aarde wonen? 11En aan een iegelijk werden lange witte klederen gegeven, en hun werd gezegd, dat zij nog een kleinen tijd rusten zouden, totdat ook hun mededienstknechten en hun broeders zouden vervuld zijn, die gedood zouden worden, gelijk als zij. 12En ik zag, toen Het het zesde zegel geopend had, en ziet, er werd een grote aardbeving; en de zon werd zwart als een haren zak, en de maan werd als bloed. 13En de sterren des hemels vielen op de aarde, gelijk een vijgeboom zijn onrijpe vijgen afwerpt, als hij van een groten wind geschud wordt. 14En de hemel is weggeweken, als een boek, dat toegerold wordt; en alle bergen en eilanden zijn bewogen uit hun plaatsen. 15En de koningen der aarde, en de groten, en de rijken, en de oversten over duizend, en de machtigen, en alle dienstknechten, en alle vrijen, verborgen zichzelven in de spelonken, en in de steenrotsen der bergen; 16En zeiden tot de bergen en tot de steenrotsen: Valt op ons, en verbergt ons van het aangezicht Desgenen, Die op den troon zit, en van den toorn des Lams. 17Want de grote dag Zijns toorns is gekomen, en wie kan bestaan?
