Io ho fatto questo nella integrità del mio cuore e con mani innocenti". 6E Dio gli disse nel sogno: "Anch’io so che tu hai fatto questo nella integrità del tuo cuore; e t’ho quindi preservato dal peccare contro di me; perciò non ti ho permesso di toccarla. 7Or dunque, restituisci la moglie a quest’uomo, perché è profeta; ed egli pregherà per te, e tu vivrai. Ma, se non la restituisci, sappi che, per certo, morrai: tu e tutti i tuoi". 8E Abimelec si levò la mattina per tempo, chiamò tutti i suoi servi, e raccontò in loro presenza tutte queste cose. E quegli uomini furon presi da gran paura. 9Poi Abimelec chiamò Abrahamo e gli disse: "Che ci hai tu fatto? E in che t’ho io offeso, che tu abbia fatto venir su me e sul mio regno un sì gran peccato? Tu m’hai fatto cose che non si debbono fare". 10E di nuovo Abimelec disse ad Abrahamo: "A che miravi, facendo questo?" 11E Abrahamo rispose: "L’ho fatto, perché dicevo fra me: Certo, in questo luogo non c’è timor di Dio; e m’uccideranno a causa di mia moglie. 12Inoltre, ella è proprio mia sorella, figliuola di mio padre, ma non figliuola di mia madre; ed è diventata mia moglie. 13Or quando Iddio mi fece errare lungi dalla casa di mio padre, io le dissi: Questo è il favore che tu mi farai; dovunque, giungeremo dirai di me: E’ mio fratello". 14E Abimelec prese delle pecore, de’ buoi, de’ servi e delle serve, e li diede ad Abrahamo, e gli restituì Sara sua moglie. E Abimelec disse: 15"Ecco, il mio paese ti sta dinanzi; dimora dovunque ti piacerà". E a Sara disse: 16"Ecco, io ho dato tuo fratello mille pezzi d’argento; questo ti sarà un velo sugli occhi di fronte a tutti quelli che sono teco, e sarai giustificata dinanzi a tutti". 17E Abrahamo pregò Dio, e Dio guarì Abimelec, la moglie e le serve di lui, ed esse poteron partorire. 18Poiché l’Eterno avea del tutto resa sterile l’intera casa di Abimelec, a motivo di Sara moglie di Abrahamo.
1Abraham traveled from there toward the land of the South, and lived between Kadesh and Shur. He lived as a foreigner in Gerar. 2Abraham said about Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah. 3But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, “Behold, you are a dead man, because of the woman whom you have taken. For she is a man’s wife.” 4Now Abimelech had not come near her. He said, “Lord, will you kill even a righteous nation? 5Didn’t he tell me, ‘She is my sister?’ She, even she herself, said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands have I done this.” 6God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also withheld you from sinning against me. Therefore I didn’t allow you to touch her. 7Now therefore, restore the man’s wife. For he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live. If you don’t restore her, know for sure that you will die, you, and all who are yours.” 8Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ear. The men were very scared. 9Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, “What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done!” 10Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you have done this thing?” 11Abraham said, “Because I thought, ‘Surely the fear of God is not in this place. They will kill me for my wife’s sake.’ 12Besides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife. 13When God caused me to wander from my father’s house, I said to her, ‘This is your kindness which you shall show to me. Everywhere that we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’” 14Abimelech took sheep and cattle, male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored Sarah, his wife, to him. 15Abimelech said, “Behold, my land is before you. Dwell where it pleases you.” 16To Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. Behold, it is for you a covering of the eyes to all that are with you. In front of all you are vindicated.” 17Abraham prayed to God. God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his female servants, and they bore children. 18For Yahweh had closed up tight all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.
1En Abraham reisde van daar naar het land van het zuiden, en woonde tussen Kades en tussen Sur; en hij verkeerde als vreemdeling te Gerar. 2Als nu Abraham van Sara, zijn huisvrouw, gezegd had: Zij is mijn zuster, zo zond Abimelech, de koning van Gerar, en nam Sara weg. 3Maar God kwam tot Abimelech in een droom des nachts, en Hij zeide tot hem: Zie, gij zijt dood om der vrouwe wil, die gij weggenomen hebt; want zij is met een man getrouwd. 4Doch Abimelech was tot haar niet genaderd; daarom zeide hij: Heere! zult Gij dan ook een rechtvaardig volk doden? 5Heeft hij zelf mij niet gezegd: Zij is mijn zuster? en zij, ook zij heeft gezegd: Hij is mijn broeder. In oprechtheid mijns harten en in reinheid mijner handen, heb ik dit gedaan. 6En God zeide tot hem in den droom: Ik heb ook geweten, dat gij dit in oprechtheid uws harten gedaan hebt, en Ik heb u ook belet van tegen Mij te zondigen; daarom heb Ik u niet toegelaten, haar aan te roeren. 7Zo geef dan nu dezes mans huisvrouw weder; want hij is een profeet, en hij zal voor u bidden, opdat gij leeft; maar zo gij haar niet wedergeeft, weet, dat gij voorzeker sterven zult, gij, en al wat uwes is! 8Toen stond Abimelech des morgens vroeg op, en riep al zijn knechten, en sprak al deze woorden voor hun oren. En die mannen vreesden zeer. 9En Abimelech riep Abraham, en zeide tot hem: Wat hebt gij ons gedaan? en wat heb ik tegen u gezondigd, dat gij over mij en over mijn koninkrijk een grote zonde gebracht hebt? gij hebt daden met mij gedaan, die niet zouden gedaan worden. 10Voorts zeide Abimelech tot Abraham: Wat hebt gij gezien, dat gij deze zaak gedaan hebt? 11En Abraham zeide: Want ik dacht: alleen is de vreze Gods in deze plaats niet, zodat zij mij om mijner huisvrouw wil zullen doden. 12En ook is zij waarlijk mijn zuster; zij is mijns vaders dochter, maar niet mijner moeder dochter; en zij is mij ter vrouwe geworden. 13En het is geschied, als God mij uit mijns vaders huis deed dwalen, zo sprak ik tot haar: Dit zij uw weldadigheid, die gij bij mij doen zult; aan alle plaatsen waar wij komen zullen, zeg van mij: Hij is mijn broeder! 14Toen nam Abimelech schapen en runderen, ook dienstknechten en dienstmaagden, en gaf dezelve aan Abraham; en hij gaf hem Sara zijn huisvrouw weder. 15En Abimelech zeide: Zie, mijn land is voor uw aangezicht; woon, waar het goed is in uw ogen. 16En tot Sara zeide hij: Zie, ik heb uw broeder duizend zilverlingen gegeven; zie, hij zij u een deksel der ogen, allen, die met u zijn, ja, bij allen, en wees geleerd. 17En Abraham bad tot God; en God genas Abimelech, en zijn huisvrouw, en zijn dienstmaagden, zodat zij baarden. 18Want de HEERE had al de baarmoeders van het huis van Abimelech ganselijk toegesloten, ter oorzake van Sara, Abrahams huisvrouw.
