1Dopo queste cose, Davide sconfisse i Filistei e li umiliò, e tolse di mano ai Filistei Gath e le città che ne dipendevano. 2Sconfisse pure i Moabiti; e i Moabiti divennero sudditi e tributari di Davide. 3Davide sconfisse anche Hadarezer, re di Tsoba, verso Hamath, mentr’egli andava a stabilire il suo dominio sul fiume Eufrate. 4Davide gli prese mille carri, settemila cavalieri e ventimila pedoni; tagliò i garetti a tutti i cavalli da tiro, ma riserbò de’ cavalli per cento carri. 5E quando i Siri di Damasco vennero per soccorrere Hadarezer, re di Tsoba, Davide ne uccise ventiduemila. 6Poi Davide mise delle guarnigioni nella Siria di Damasco, e i Siri divennero sudditi e tributari di Davide; e l’Eterno lo rendea vittorioso dovunque egli andava. 7E Davide tolse ai servi di Hadarezer i loro scudi d’oro e li portò a Gerusalemme. 8Davide prese anche una grande quantità di rame a Tibhath e a Cun, città di Hadarezer. 1After this, David struck the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and its towns out of the hand of the Philistines. 2He struck Moab; and the Moabites became servants to David, and brought tribute. 3David struck Hadadezer king of Zobah to Hamath, as he went to establish his dominion by the river Euphrates. 4David took from him one thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen; and David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for one hundred chariots. 5When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck of the Syrians twenty-two thousand men. 6Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought tribute. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went. 7David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. 8From Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took very much brass, with which Solomon made the bronze sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass. 9When Tou king of Hamath heard that David had struck all the army of Hadadezer king of Zobah, 10he sent Hadoram his son to king David, to Greet him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him; (for Hadadezer had wars with Tou;) and he had with him all kinds of vessels of gold and silver and brass. 11King David also dedicated these to Yahweh, with the silver and the gold that he carried away from all the nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek. 12Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah struck of the Edomites in the Valley of Salt eighteen thousand. 13He put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became servants to David. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went. 14David reigned over all Israel; and he executed justice and righteousness to all his people. 15Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; 16and Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were priests; and Shavsha was scribe; 17and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief about the king.

En de HEERE behoedde David overal, waar hij heenging. 7En David nam de gouden schilden, die bij Hadar-ezers knechten waren, en hij bracht ze te Jeruzalem. 8Ook nam David zeer veel kopers uit Tibchath, en uit Chun, steden van Hadar-ezer; daarvan heeft Salomo de koperen zee, en de pilaren, en de koperen vaten gemaakt. 9Toen Thou, de koning van Hamath, hoorde, dat David de ganse heirkracht van Hadar-ezer, den koning van Zoba, geslagen had; 10Zo zond hij zijn zoon Hadoram tot den koning David, om hem naar zijn welstand te vragen, en om hem te zegenen, vanwege dat hij met Hadar-ezer gestreden, en hem verslagen had (want Hadar-ezer voerde oorlog tegen Thou), en alle gouden, en zilveren, en koperen vaten; 11Deze heiligde de koning David ook den HEERE, met het zilver en het goud, hetwelk hij medegebracht had van al de heidenen: van de Edomieten, en van de Moabieten, en van de kinderen Ammons, en van de Filistijnen, en van de Amalekieten. 12Ook sloeg Abisai, de zoon van Zeruja, de Edomieten in het Zoutdal, achttien duizend. 13En hij legde bezetting in Edom, zodat al de Edomieten Davids knechten werden; en de HEERE behoedde David overal, waar hij heenging. 14Alzo regeerde David over gans Israel, en hij deed zijn gansen volke recht en gerechtigheid. 15Joab nu, de zoon van Zeruja, was over het heir; en Josafat, de zoon van Ahilud, was kanselier; 16En Zadok, de zoon van Ahitub, en Abimelech, de zoon van Abjathar, waren priesters, en Sausa schrijver; 17En Benaja, de zoon van Jojada, was over de Krethi en Plethi; maar de zonen van David waren de eersten aan de hand des konings.
