1Il arriva, un jour de sabbat appelé second-premier, que Jésus traversait des champs de blé. Ses disciples arrachaient des épis et les mangeaient, après les avoir froissés dans leurs mains. 2Quelques pharisiens leur dirent : Pourquoi faites-vous ce qu’il n’est pas permis de faire pendant le sabbat ? 3Jésus leur répondit : N’avez-vous pas lu ce que fit David, lorsqu’il eut faim, lui et ceux qui étaient avec lui ; 4comment il entra dans la maison de Dieu, prit les pains de proposition, en mangea, et en donna à ceux qui étaient avec lui, bien qu’il ne soit permis qu’aux sacrificateurs de les manger ? 5Et il leur dit : Le Fils de l’homme est maître même du sabbat. 6Il arriva , un autre jour de sabbat, que Jésus entra dans la synagogue, et qu’il enseignait. Il s’y trouvait un homme dont la main droite était sèche. 7Les scribes et les pharisiens observaient Jésus, pour voir s’il ferait une guérison le jour du sabbat : c’était afin d’avoir sujet de l’accuser. 8Mais il connaissait leurs pensées, et il dit à l’homme qui avait la main sèche : Lève-toi, et tiens-toi là au milieu. Il se leva, et se tint debout. 9Et Jésus leur dit : Je vous demande s’il est permis, le jour du sabbat, de faire du bien ou de faire du mal, de sauver une personne ou de la tuer. 10Alors, promenant ses regards sur eux tous, il dit à l’homme : Étends ta main. Il le fit, et sa main fut guérie . 11Ils furent remplis de fureur, et ils se consultèrent pour savoir ce qu’ils feraient à Jésus. 12En ce temps-là, Jésus se rendit sur la montagne pour prier, et il passa toute la nuit à prier Dieu. 13Quand le jour parut, il appela ses disciples, et il en choisit douze, auxquels il donna le nom d’apôtres : 14Simon, qu’il nomma Pierre ; André, son frère ; Jacques ; Jean ; Philippe ; Barthélemy ; 15Matthieu ; Thomas ; Jacques, fils d’Alphée ; Simon, appelé le zélote ; 16Jude, fils de Jacques ; et Judas Iscariot, qui devint traître. 17Il descendit avec eux, et s’arrêta sur un plateau , où se trouvaient une foule de ses disciples et une multitude de peuple de toute la Judée, de Jérusalem, et de la contrée maritime de Tyr et de Sidon. Ils étaient venus pour l’entendre, et pour être guéris de leurs maladies. 18Ceux qui étaient tourmentés par des esprits impurs étaient guéris. 19Et toute la foule cherchait à le toucher, parce qu’une force sortait de lui et les guérissait tous. 20Alors Jésus, levant les yeux sur ses disciples, dit : Heureux vous qui êtes pauvres, car le royaume de Dieu est à vous ! 21Heureux vous qui avez faim maintenant, car vous serez rassasiés ! Heureux vous qui pleurez maintenant, car vous serez dans la joie ! 22Heureux serez-vous, lorsque les hommes vous haïront, lorsqu’on vous chassera, vous outragera, et qu’on rejettera votre nom comme infâme, à cause du Fils de l’homme ! 23Réjouissez-vous en ce jour-là et tressaillez d’allégresse, parce que votre récompense sera grande dans le ciel ; car c’est ainsi que leurs pères traitaient les prophètes. 24Mais, malheur à vous, riches, car vous avez votre consolation ! 25Malheur à vous qui êtes rassasiés, car vous aurez faim ! Malheur à vous qui riez maintenant, car vous serez dans le deuil et dans les larmes ! 26Malheur, lorsque tous les hommes diront du bien de vous, car c’est ainsi qu’agissaient leurs pères à l’égard des faux prophètes ! 27Mais je vous dis, à vous qui m’écoutez : Aimez vos ennemis, faites du bien à ceux qui vous haïssent, 28bénissez ceux qui vous maudissent, priez pour ceux qui vous maltraitent. 29Si quelqu’un te frappe sur une joue, présente-lui aussi l’autre. Si quelqu’un prend ton manteau, ne l’empêche pas de prendre encore ta tunique. 30Donne à quiconque te demande, et ne réclame pas ton bien à celui qui s’en empare. 31Ce que vous voulez que les hommes fassent pour vous, faites-le de même pour eux. 32Si vous aimez ceux qui vous aiment, quel gré vous en saura-t-on ? Les pécheurs aussi aiment ceux qui les aiment. 33Si vous faites du bien à ceux qui vous font du bien, quel gré vous en saura-t-on ? Les pécheurs aussi agissent de même. 34Et si vous prêtez à ceux de qui vous espérez recevoir, quel gré vous en saura-t-on ? Les pécheurs aussi prêtent aux pécheurs, afin de recevoir la pareille. 35Mais aimez vos ennemis, faites du bien, et prêtez sans rien espérer. Et votre récompense sera grande, et vous serez fils du Très-Haut, car il est bon pour les ingrats et pour les méchants. 36Soyez donc miséricordieux, comme votre Père est miséricordieux. 37Ne jugez point, et vous ne serez point jugés ; ne condamnez point, et vous ne serez point condamnés ; absolvez, et vous serez absous. 38Donnez, et il vous sera donné : on versera dans votre sein une bonne mesure, serrée, secouée et qui déborde ; car on vous mesurera avec la mesure dont vous vous serez servis. 39Il leur dit aussi cette parabole : Un aveugle peut-il conduire un aveugle ? Ne tomberont-ils pas tous deux dans une fosse ? 40Le disciple n’est pas plus que le maître ; mais tout disciple accompli sera comme son maître. 41Pourquoi vois-tu la paille qui est dans l’œil de ton frère, et n’aperçois-tu pas la poutre qui est dans ton œil ? 42Ou comment peux-tu dire à ton frère : Frère, laisse-moi ôter la paille qui est dans ton œil, toi qui ne vois pas la poutre qui est dans le tien ? Hypocrite, ôte premièrement la poutre de ton œil, et alors tu verras comment ôter la paille qui est dans l’œil de ton frère. 43Ce n’est pas un bon arbre qui porte du mauvais fruit, ni un mauvais arbre qui porte du bon fruit. 44Car chaque arbre se connaît à son fruit. On ne cueille pas des figues sur des épines, et l’on ne vendange pas des raisins sur des ronces. 45L’homme bon tire de bonnes choses du bon trésor de son cœur, et le méchant tire de mauvaises choses de son mauvais trésor ; car c’est de l’abondance du cœur que la bouche parle. 46Pourquoi m’appelez-vous Seigneur, Seigneur ! et ne faites-vous pas ce que je dis ? 47Je vous montrerai à qui est semblable tout homme qui vient à moi, entend mes paroles, et les met en pratique. 48Il est semblable à un homme qui, bâtissant une maison, a creusé, creusé profondément, et a posé le fondement sur le roc. Une inondation est venue, et le torrent s’est jeté contre cette maison, sans pouvoir l’ébranler, parce qu’elle était bien bâtie . 49Mais celui qui entend, et ne met pas en pratique, est semblable à un homme qui a bâti une maison sur la terre, sans fondement. Le torrent s’est jeté contre elle : aussitôt elle est tombée, et la ruine de cette maison a été grande.
1Now on the second Sabbath after the first, he was going through the grain fields. His disciples plucked the heads of grain, and ate, rubbing them in their hands. 2But some of the Pharisees said to them, “Why do you do that which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath day?” 3Jesus, answering them, said, “Haven’t you read what David did when he was hungry, he, and those who were with him; 4how he entered into God’s house, and took and ate the show bread, and gave also to those who were with him, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests alone?” 5He said to them, “The Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.” 6It also happened on another Sabbath that he entered into the synagogue and taught. There was a man there, and his right hand was withered. 7The scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against him. 8But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Rise up, and stand in the middle.” He arose and stood. 9Then Jesus said to them, “I will ask you something: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good, or to do harm? To save a life, or to kill?” 10He looked around at them all, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did, and his hand was restored as sound as the other. 11But they were filled with rage, and talked with one another about what they might do to Jesus. 12In these days, he went out to the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to God. 13When it was day, he called his disciples, and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles: 14Simon, whom he also named Peter; Andrew, his brother; James; John; Philip; Bartholomew; 15Matthew; Thomas; James, the son of Alphaeus; Simon, who was called the Zealot; 16Judas the son of James; and Judas Iscariot, who also became a traitor. 17He came down with them, and stood on a level place, with a crowd of his disciples, and a great number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; 18as well as those who were troubled by unclean spirits, and they were being healed. 19All the multitude sought to touch him, for power came out of him and healed them all. 20He lifted up his eyes to his disciples, and said, “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the Kingdom of God. 21Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. 22Blessed are you when men shall hate you, and when they shall exclude and mock you, and throw out your name as evil, for the Son of Man’s sake. 23Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven, for their fathers did the same thing to the prophets. 24“But woe to you who are rich! For you have received your consolation. 25Woe to you, you who are full now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. 26Woe,whenmen speak well of you, for their fathers did the same thing to the false prophets. 27“But I tell you who hear: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you. 29To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer also the other; and from him who takes away your cloak, don’t withhold your coat also. 30Give to everyone who asks you, and don’t ask him who takes away your goods to give them back again. 31“As you would like people to do to you, do exactly so to them. 32If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive back as much. 35But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back; and your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil. 36“Therefore be merciful, even as your Father is also merciful. 37Don’t judge, and you won’t be judged. Don’t condemn, and you won’t be condemned. Set free, and you will be set free. 38“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be given to you. For with the same measure you measure it will be measured back to you.” 39He spoke a parable to them. “Can the blind guide the blind? Won’t they both fall into a pit? 40A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher. 41Why do you see the speck of chaff that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye? 42Or how can you tell your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck of chaff that is in your eye,’ when you yourself don’t see the beam that is in your own eye? You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck of chaff that is in your brother’s eye. 43For there is no good tree that produces rotten fruit; nor again a rotten tree that produces good fruit. 44For each tree is known by its own fruit. For people don’t gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings out that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings out that which is evil, for out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks. 46“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things which I say? 47Everyone who comes to me, and hears my words, and does them, I will show you who he is like. 48He is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep, and laid a foundation on the rock. When a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it was founded on the rock. 49But he who hears, and doesn’t do, is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”

Zalig zijt gij, die nu weent; want gij zult lachen. 22Zalig zijt gij, wanneer u de mensen haten, en wanneer zij u afscheiden, en smaden, en uw naam als kwaad verwerpen, om des Zoons des mensen wil. 23Verblijdt u in dien dag, en zijt vrolijk; want, ziet, uw loon is groot in den hemel; want hun vaders deden desgelijks den profeten. 24Maar wee u, gij rijken, want gij hebt uw troost weg. 25Wee u, die verzadigd zijt, want gij zult hongeren. Wee u, die nu lacht, want gij zult treuren en wenen. 26Wee u, wanneer al de mensen wel van u spreken, want hun vaders deden desgelijks den valsen profeten. 27Maar Ik zeg ulieden, die dit hoort: Hebt uw vijanden lief; doet wel dengenen, die u haten. 28Zegent degenen, die u vervloeken, en bidt voor degenen, die u geweld doen. 29Dengene, die u aan de wang slaat, biedt ook de andere; en dengene, die u den mantel neemt, verhindert ook den rok niet te nemen. 30Maar geeft een iegelijk, die van u begeert; en van dengene, die het uwe neemt, eist niet weder. 31En gelijk gij wilt, dat u de mensen doen zullen, doet gij hun ook desgelijks. 32En indien gij liefhebt, die u liefhebben, wat dank hebt gij? Want ook de zondaars hebben lief degenen, die hen liefhebben. 33En indien gij goed doet dengenen, die u goed doen, wat dank hebt gij? Want ook de zondaars doen hetzelfde. 34En indien gij leent dengenen, van welke gij hoopt weder te ontvangen, wat dank hebt gij? Want ook de zondaars lenen den zondaren, opdat zij evengelijk weder mogen ontvangen. 35Maar hebt uw vijanden lief, en doet goed, en leent, zonder iets weder te hopen; en uw loon zal groot zijn, en gij zult kinderen des Allerhoogsten zijn; want Hij is goedertieren over de ondankbaren en bozen. 36Weest dan barmhartig, gelijk ook uw Vader barmhartig is. 37En oordeelt niet, en gij zult niet geoordeeld worden; verdoemt niet, en gij zult niet verdoemd worden; laat los, en gij zult losgelaten worden. 38Geeft, en u zal gegeven worden; een goede, neergedrukte, en geschudde en overlopende maat zal men in uw schoot geven; want met dezelfde maat, waarmede gijlieden meet, zal ulieden wedergemeten worden. 39En Hij zeide tot hen een gelijkenis: Kan ook wel een blinde een blinde op den weg leiden? Zullen zij niet beiden in de gracht vallen? 40De discipel is niet boven zijn meester; maar een iegelijk volmaakt discipel zal zijn gelijk zijn meester. 41En wat ziet gij den splinter, die in uws broeders oog is, en den balk, die in uw eigen oog is, merkt gij niet? 42Of hoe kunt gij tot uw broeder zeggen: Broeder, laat toe, dat ik den splinter, die in uw oog is, uitdoe; daar gij zelf den balk, die in uw oog is, niet ziet? Gij geveinsde! doe eerst den balk uit uw oog, en dan zult gij bezien, om den splinter uit te doen, die in uws broeders oog is. 43Want het is geen goede boom, die kwade vrucht voortbrengt, en geen kwade boom, die goede vrucht voortbrengt; 44Want ieder boom wordt uit zijn eigen vrucht gekend; want men leest geen vijgen van doornen, en men snijdt geen druif van bramen. 45De goede mens brengt het goede voort uit den goeden schat zijns harten; en de kwade mens brengt het kwade voort uit den kwaden schat zijns harten; want uit den overvloed des harten spreekt zijn mond. 46En wat noemt gij Mij, Heere, Heere! en doet niet hetgeen Ik zeg? 47Een iegelijk, die tot Mij komt, en Mijn woorden hoort, en dezelve doet, Ik zal u tonen, wien hij gelijk is. 48Hij is gelijk een mens, die een huis bouwde, en groef, en verdiepte, en leide het fondament op een steenrots; als nu de hoge vloed kwam, zo sloeg de waterstroom tegen dat huis aan, en kon het niet bewegen; want het was op de steenrots gegrond. 49Maar die ze gehoord, en niet gedaan zal hebben, is gelijk een mens, die een huis bouwde op de aarde zonder fondament; tegen hetwelk de waterstroom aansloeg, en het viel terstond, en de val van datzelve huis was groot.
