Josué 21

1Les chefs de famille des Lévites s’approchèrent du sacrificateur Éléazar, de Josué, fils de Nun, et des chefs de famille des tribus des enfants d’Israël. 2Ils leur parlèrent à Silo, dans le pays de Canaan, et dirent : L’Éternel a ordonné par Moïse qu’on nous donnât des villes pour habitation, et leurs banlieues pour notre bétail. 3Les enfants d’Israël donnèrent alors aux Lévites, sur leur héritage, les villes suivantes et leurs banlieues, d’après l’ordre de l’Éternel. 4On tira le sort pour les familles des Kehathites ; et les Lévites, fils du sacrificateur Aaron, eurent par le sort treize villes de la tribu de Juda, de la tribu de Siméon et de la tribu de Benjamin ; 5les autres fils de Kehath eurent par le sort dix villes des familles de la tribu d’Éphraïm, de la tribu de Dan et de la demi-tribu de Manassé. 6Les fils de Guerschon eurent par le sort treize villes des familles de la tribu d’Issacar, de la tribu d’Aser, de la tribu de Nephthali et de la demi-tribu de Manassé en Basan. 7Les fils de Merari, selon leurs familles, eurent douze villes de la tribu de Ruben, de la tribu de Gad et de la tribu de Zabulon. 8Les enfants d’Israël donnèrent aux Lévites, par le sort, ces villes et leurs banlieues, comme l’Éternel l’avait ordonné par Moïse. 9Ils donnèrent de la tribu des fils de Juda et de la tribu des fils de Siméon les villes qui vont être nominativement désignées, 10et qui furent pour les fils d’Aaron d’entre les familles des Kehathites et des fils de Lévi, car le sort les avait indiqués les premiers. 11Ils leur donnèrent Kirjath-Arba, qui est Hébron, dans la montagne de Juda, et la banlieue qui l’entoure : Arba était le père d’Anak. 12Le territoire de la ville et ses villages furent accordés à Caleb, fils de Jephunné, pour sa possession. 13Ils donnèrent donc aux fils du sacrificateur Aaron la ville de refuge pour les meurtriers, Hébron et sa banlieue, Libna et sa banlieue, 14Jatthir et sa banlieue, Eschthemoa et sa banlieue, 15Holon et sa banlieue, Debir et sa banlieue, 16Aïn et sa banlieue, Jutta et sa banlieue, et Beth-Schémesch et sa banlieue, neuf villes de ces deux tribus ; 17et de la tribu de Benjamin, Gabaon et sa banlieue, Guéba et sa banlieue, 18Anathoth et sa banlieue, et Almon et sa banlieue, quatre villes. 19Total des villes des sacrificateurs, fils d’Aaron : treize villes, et leurs banlieues. 20Les Lévites appartenant aux familles des autres fils de Kehath eurent par le sort des villes de la tribu d’Éphraïm. 21On leur donna la ville de refuge pour les meurtriers, Sichem et sa banlieue, dans la montagne d’Éphraïm, Guézer et sa banlieue, 22Kibtsaïm et sa banlieue, et Beth-Horon et sa banlieue, quatre villes ; 23de la tribu de Dan, Eltheké et sa banlieue, Guibbethon et sa banlieue, 24Ajalon et sa banlieue, et Gath-Rimmon et sa banlieue, quatre villes ; 25et de la demi-tribu de Manassé, Thaanac et sa banlieue, et Gath-Rimmon et sa banlieue, deux villes. 26Total des villes : dix, et leurs banlieues, pour les familles des autres fils de Kehath. 27On donna aux fils de Guerschon, d’entre les familles des Lévites : de la demi-tribu de Manassé, la ville de refuge pour les meurtriers, Golan en Basan et sa banlieue, et Beeschthra et sa banlieue, deux villes ; 28de la tribu d’Issacar, Kischjon et sa banlieue, Dabrath et sa banlieue, 29Jarmuth et sa banlieue, et En-Gannim et sa banlieue, quatre villes ; 30de la tribu d’Aser, Mischeal et sa banlieue, Abdon et sa banlieue, 31Helkath et sa banlieue, et Rehob et sa banlieue, quatre villes ; 32et de la tribu de Nephthali, la ville de refuge pour les meurtriers, Kédesch en Galilée et sa banlieue, Hammoth-Dor et sa banlieue, et Karthan et sa banlieue, trois villes. 33Total des villes des Guerschonites, selon leurs familles : treize villes et leurs banlieues. 34On donna au reste des Lévites, qui appartenaient aux familles des fils de Merari : de la tribu de Zabulon, Jokneam et sa banlieue, Kartha et sa banlieue, 35Dimna et sa banlieue, et Nahalal et sa banlieue, quatre villes ; 36de la tribu de Ruben, Betser et sa banlieue, Jahtsa et sa banlieue, 37Kedémoth et sa banlieue, et Méphaath et sa banlieue, quatre villes ; 38et de la tribu de Gad, la ville de refuge pour les meurtriers, Ramoth en Galaad et sa banlieue, Mahanaïm et sa banlieue, 39Hesbon et sa banlieue, et Jaezer et sa banlieue, en tout quatre villes. 40Total des villes qui échurent par le sort aux fils de Merari, selon leurs familles, formant le reste des familles des Lévites : douze villes. 41Total des villes des Lévites au milieu des propriétés des enfants d’Israël : quarante-huit villes, et leurs banlieues. 42Chacune de ces villes avait sa banlieue qui l’entourait ; il en était de même pour toutes ces villes. 43C’est ainsi que l’Éternel donna à Israël tout le pays qu’il avait juré de donner à leurs pères ; ils en prirent possession et s’y établirent. 44L’Éternel leur accorda du repos tout alentour, comme il l’avait juré à leurs pères ; aucun de leurs ennemis ne put leur résister, et l’Éternel les livra tous entre leurs mains. 45De toutes les bonnes paroles que l’Éternel avait dites à la maison d’Israël, aucune ne resta sans effet : toutes s’accomplirent.

1Then the heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites came near to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of fathers’ houses of the tribes of the children of Israel. 2They spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, “Yahweh commanded Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for our livestock.” 3The children of Israel gave to the Levites out of their inheritance, according to the commandment of Yahweh, these cities with their suburbs. 4The lot came out for the families of the Kohathites. The children of Aaron the priest, who were of the Levites, had thirteen cities by lot out of the tribe of Judah, out of the tribe of the Simeonites, and out of the tribe of Benjamin. 5The rest of the children of Kohath had ten cities by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh. 6The children of Gershon had thirteen cities by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, out of the tribe of Asher, out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan. 7The children of Merari according to their families had twelve cities out of the tribe of Reuben, out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun. 8The children of Israel gave these cities with their suburbs by lot to the Levites, as Yahweh commanded by Moses. 9They gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are mentioned by name: 10and they were for the children of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi; for theirs was the first lot. 11They gave them Kiriath Arba, named after the father of Anak (the same is Hebron), in the hill country of Judah, with its suburbs around it. 12But they gave the fields of the city and its villages to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession. 13To the children of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the man slayer, Libnah with its suburbs, 14Jattir with its suburbs, Eshtemoa with its suburbs, 15Holon with its suburbs, Debir with its suburbs, 16Ain with its suburbs, Juttah with its suburbs, and Beth Shemesh with its suburbs; nine cities out of those two tribes. 17Out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its suburbs, Geba with its suburbs, 18Anathoth with its suburbs, and Almon with its suburbs; four cities. 19All the cities of the children of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their suburbs. 20The families of the children of Kohath, the Levites, even the rest of the children of Kohath, had the cities of their lot out of the tribe of Ephraim. 21They gave them Shechem with its suburbs in the hill country of Ephraim, the city of refuge for the man slayer, and Gezer with its suburbs, 22Kibzaim with its suburbs, and Beth Horon with its suburbs; four cities. 23Out of the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its suburbs, Gibbethon with its suburbs, 24Aijalon with its suburbs, Gath Rimmon with its suburbs; four cities. 25Out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its suburbs, and Gath Rimmon with its suburbs; two cities. 26All the cities of the families of the rest of the children of Kohath were ten with their suburbs. 27They gave to the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the half-tribe of Manasseh Golan in Bashan with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the man slayer, and Be Eshterah with its suburbs; two cities. 28Out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its suburbs, Daberath with its suburbs, 29Jarmuth with its suburbs, En Gannim with its suburbs; four cities. 30Out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its suburbs, Abdon with its suburbs, 31Helkath with its suburbs, and Rehob with its suburbs; four cities. 32Out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the man slayer, Hammothdor with its suburbs, and Kartan with its suburbs; three cities. 33All the cities of the Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities with their suburbs. 34To the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with its suburbs, Kartah with its suburbs, 35Dimnah with its suburbs, and Nahalal with its suburbs; four cities. 36Out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its suburbs, Jahaz with its suburbs, 37Kedemoth with its suburbs, and Mephaath with its suburbs; four cities. 38Out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the man slayer, and Mahanaim with its suburbs, 39Heshbon with its suburbs, Jazer with its suburbs; four cities in all. 40All these were the cities of the children of Merari according to their families, even the rest of the families of the Levites. Their lot was twelve cities. 41All the cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the children of Israel were forty-eight cities with their suburbs. 42Each of these cities included their suburbs around them. It was this way with all these cities. 43So Yahweh gave to Israel all the land which he swore to give to their fathers. They possessed it, and lived in it. 44Yahweh gave them rest all around, according to all that he swore to their fathers. Not a man of all their enemies stood before them. Yahweh delivered all their enemies into their hand. 45Nothing failed of any good thing which Yahweh had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.

1Toen naderden de hoofden der vaderen van de Levieten tot Eleazar, den priester, en tot Jozua, den zoon van Nun, en tot de hoofden der vaderen van de stammen der kinderen Israels; 2En zij spraken tot hen, te Silo, in het land Kanaan, zeggende: De HEERE heeft geboden door den dienst van Mozes, dat men ons steden te bewonen geven zou, en haar voorsteden voor onze beesten. 3Daarom gaven de kinderen Israels aan de Levieten van hun erfdeel, naar den mond des HEEREN, deze steden en de voorsteden derzelve. 4Toen ging het lot uit voor de huisgezinnen der Kahathieten; en voor de kinderen van Aaron, den priester, uit de Levieten, waren van den stam van Juda, en van den stam van Simeon, en van den stam van Benjamin, door het lot, dertien steden. 5En aan de overgebleven kinderen van Kahath vielen, bij het lot, van de huisgezinnen van den stam van Efraim, en van den stam van Dan, en van den halven stam van Manasse, tien steden. 6En aan den kinderen van Gerson, van de huisgezinnen van den stam van Issaschar, en van den stam van Aser, en van den stam van Nafthali, en van den halven stam van Manasse, in Bazan, bij het lot, dertien steden. 7Aan de kinderen van Merari, naar hun huisgezinnen, van den stam van Ruben, en van den stam van Gad, en van den stam van Zebulon, twaalf steden. 8Alzo gaven de kinderen Israels aan de Levieten deze steden en haar voorsteden, bij het lot, gelijk de HEERE geboden had door den dienst van Mozes. 9Verder gaven zij van den stam der kinderen van Juda, en van den stam der kinderen van Simeon, deze steden, die men bij name noemde; 10Dat zij waren van de kinderen van Aaron, van de huisgezinnen der Kahathieten, uit de kinderen van Levi; want het eerste lot was het hunne. 11Zo gaven zij hun de stad van Arba, den vader van Anok (zij is Hebron), op den berg van Juda, en haar voorsteden rondom haar. 12Maar het veld der stad en haar dorpen, gaven zij aan Kaleb, den zoon van Jefunne, tot zijn bezitting. 13Alzo gaven zij aan de kinderen van den priester Aaron de vrijstad des doodslagers, Hebron en haar voorsteden, en Libna en haar voorsteden; 14En Jatthir en haar voorsteden, en Esthemoa en haar voorsteden; 15En Holon en haar voorsteden, en Debir en haar voorsteden; 16En Ain en haar voorsteden, en Jutta en haar voorsteden, en Beth-Semes en haar voorsteden; negen steden van deze twee stammen. 17En van den stam van Benjamin, Gibeon en haar voorsteden, Geba en haar voorsteden; 18Anathoth en haar voorsteden, en Almon en haar voorsteden: vier steden. 19Al de steden der kinderen van Aaron, de priesteren, waren dertien steden en haar voorsteden. 20De huisgezinnen nu der kinderen van Kahath, de Levieten, die overgebleven waren van de kinderen van Kahath, die hadden de steden huns lots van den stam van Efraim. 21En zij gaven hun Sichem, een vrijstad des doodslagers, en haar voorsteden, op den berg Efraim, en Gezer en haar voorsteden; 35Dimna en haar voorsteden, Nahalal en haar voorsteden: vier steden. 36En van den stam van Ruben, Bezer en haar voorsteden, en Jahza en haar voorsteden; 37Kedemoth en haar voorsteden, en Mefaath en haar voorsteden: vier steden. 38Van den stam van Gad nu, de vrijstad des doodslagers, Ramoth in Gilead, en haar voorsteden, en Mahanaim en haar voorsteden; 39Hesbon en haar voorsteden, Jaezer en haar voorsteden: al die steden zijn vier. 40Al die steden waren van de kinderen van Merari, naar hun huisgezinnen, die nog overig waren van de huisgezinnen der Levieten; en hun lot was twaalf steden. 41Al de steden der Levieten, in het midden van de erfenis der kinderen Israels, waren acht en veertig steden en haar voorsteden. 42Deze steden waren elk met haar voorsteden rondom haar; alzo was het met al die steden. 43Alzo gaf de HEERE aan Israel het ganse land, dat Hij gezworen had hun vaderen te geven, en zij beerfden het, en woonden daarin. 44En de HEERE gaf hun rust rondom, naar alles, wat Hij hun vaderen gezworen had; en er bestond niet een man van al hun vijanden voor hun aangezicht; al hun vijanden gaf de HEERE in hun hand. 45Er viel niet een woord van al de goede woorden, die de HEERE gesproken had tot het huis van Israel; het kwam altemaal.
