1Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya ses serviteurs vers Salomon, car il apprit qu’on l’avait oint pour roi à la place de son père, et il avait toujours aimé David. 2Salomon fit dire à Hiram : 3Tu sais que David, mon père, n’a pas pu bâtir une maison à l’Éternel, son Dieu, à cause des guerres dont ses ennemis l’ont enveloppé jusqu’à ce que l’Éternel les eût mis sous la plante de ses pieds. 4Maintenant l’Éternel, mon Dieu, m’a donné du repos de toutes parts ; plus d’adversaires, plus de calamités ! 5Voici, j’ai l’intention de bâtir une maison au nom de l’Éternel, mon Dieu, comme l’Éternel l’a déclaré à David, mon père, en disant : Ton fils que je mettrai à ta place sur ton trône, ce sera lui qui bâtira une maison à mon nom. 6Ordonne maintenant que l’on coupe pour moi des cèdres du Liban. Mes serviteurs seront avec les tiens, et je te paierai le salaire de tes serviteurs tel que tu l’auras fixé ; car tu sais qu’il n’y a personne parmi nous qui s’entende à couper les bois comme les Sidoniens. 7Lorsqu’il entendit les paroles de Salomon, Hiram eut une grande joie, et il dit : Béni soit aujourd’hui l’Éternel, qui a donné à David un fils sage pour chef de ce grand peuple ! 8Et Hiram fit répondre à Salomon : J’ai entendu ce que tu m’as envoyé dire. Je ferai tout ce qui te plaira au sujet des bois de cèdre et des bois de cyprès. 9Mes serviteurs les descendront du Liban à la mer, et je les expédierai par mer en radeaux jusqu’au lieu que tu m’indiqueras ; là, je les ferai délier, et tu les prendras. Ce que je désire en retour, c’est que tu fournisses des vivres à ma maison. 10Hiram donna à Salomon des bois de cèdre et des bois de cyprès autant qu’il en voulut. 11Et Salomon donna à Hiram vingt mille cors de froment pour l’entretien de sa maison et vingt cors d’huile d’olives concassées ; c’est ce que Salomon donna chaque année à Hiram. 12L’Éternel donna de la sagesse à Salomon, comme il le lui avait promis. Et il y eut paix entre Hiram et Salomon, et ils firent alliance ensemble. 13Le roi Salomon leva sur tout Israël des hommes de corvée ; ils étaient au nombre de trente mille. 14Il les envoya au Liban, dix mille par mois alternativement ; ils étaient un mois au Liban, et deux mois chez eux. Adoniram était préposé sur les hommes de corvée. 15Salomon avait encore soixante-dix mille hommes qui portaient les fardeaux et quatre-vingt mille qui taillaient les pierres dans la montagne, 16sans compter les chefs, au nombre de trois mille trois cents, préposés par Salomon sur les travaux et chargés de surveiller les ouvriers. 17Le roi ordonna d’extraire de grandes et magnifiques pierres de taille pour les fondements de la maison. 18Les ouvriers de Salomon, ceux de Hiram, et les Guibliens, les taillèrent, et ils préparèrent les bois et les pierres pour bâtir la maison.
1Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the place of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David. 2Solomon sent to Hiram, saying, 3“You know how that David my father could not build a house for the name of Yahweh his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until Yahweh put them under the soles of his feet. 4But now Yahweh my God has given me rest on every side. There is neither adversary, nor evil occurrence. 5Behold, I purpose to build a house for the name of Yahweh my God, as Yahweh spoke to David my father, saying, ‘Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, he shall build the house for my name.’ 6Now therefore command that they cut me cedar trees out of Lebanon. My servants shall be with your servants; and I will give you wages for your servants according to all that you shall say. For you know that there is not among us any who knows how to cut timber like the Sidonians.” 7When Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly, and said, “Blessed is Yahweh this day, who has given to David a wise son over this great people.” 8Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, “I have heard the message which you have sent to me. I will do all your desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir. 9My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon to the sea. I will make them into rafts to go by sea to the place that you shall appoint me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and you shall receive them. You shall accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.” 10So Hiram gave Solomon timber of cedar and timber of fir according to all his desire. 11Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil. Solomon gave this to Hiram year by year. 12Yahweh gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a treaty together. 13King Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men. 14He sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses; a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the men subject to forced labor. 15Solomon had seventy thousand who bore burdens, and eighty thousand who were stone cutters in the mountains; 16besides Solomon’s chief officers who were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, who bore rule over the people who labored in the work. 17The king commanded, and they cut out great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with worked stone. 18Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders and the Gebalites cut them, and prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.
1En Hiram, de koning van Tyrus, zond zijn knechten tot Salomo (want hij had gehoord, dat zij Salomo tot koning gezalfd hadden in zijns vaders plaats), dewijl Hiram David altijd bemind had. 2Daarna zond Salomo tot Hiram, zeggende: 3Gij weet, dat mijn vader David den Naam des HEEREN, zijns Gods, geen huis kon bouwen, vanwege de oorlogen, waarmede zij hem omsingelden, totdat de HEERE hen onder zijn voetzolen gaf. 4Maar nu heeft de HEERE, mijn God, mij van rondom rust gegeven; er is geen tegenpartijder, en geen bejegening van kwaad. 5En zie, ik denk voor den Naam van den HEERE, mijn God, een huis te bouwen; gelijk als de HEERE gesproken heeft tot mijn vader David, zeggende: Uw zoon, dien Ik in uw plaats op uw troon zetten zal, die zal Mijn Naam dat huis bouwen. 6Zo gebied nu, dat men mij cederen uit den Libanon houwe, en mijn knechten zullen met uw knechten zijn, en het loon uwer knechten zal ik u geven, naar al wat gij zeggen zult; want gij weet, dat onder ons niemand is, die weet hout te houwen, gelijk de Sidoniers. 7En het geschiedde, als Hiram de woorden van Salomo gehoord had, dat hij zich zeer verblijdde, en zeide: Gezegend zij de HEERE heden, Die David een wijzen zoon gegeven heeft over dit grote volk! 8En Hiram zond tot Salomo, zeggende: Ik heb gehoord, waarom gij tot mij gezonden hebt; ik zal al uw wil doen met het cederenhout, en met het dennenhout. 9Mijn knechten zullen het afbrengen van den Libanon aan de zee; en ik zal het op vlotten over de zee doen voeren, tot die plaats, die gij aan mij ontbieden zult, en zal het aldaar los maken, en gij zult het wegnemen; gij zult ook mijn wil doen, dat gij mijn huis spijze geeft. 10Alzo gaf Hiram aan Salomo cederenhout en dennenhout, naar al zijn wil. 11En Salomo gaf Hiram twintig duizend kor tarwe, tot spijze van zijn huis, en twintig kor gestoten olie; zulks gaf Salomo aan Hiram jaar op jaar. 12De HEERE dan gaf Salomo wijsheid, gelijk als Hij tot hem gesproken had; en er was vrede tussen Hiram en tussen Salomo, en zij beiden maakten een verbond. 13En de koning Salomo deed een uitschot opkomen uit gans Israel; en het uitschot was dertig duizend man. 14En hij zond hen naar den Libanon, tien duizend des maands bij beurten; een maand waren zij op den Libanon; twee maanden elk in zijn huis; en Adoniram was over dit uitschot. 15Daartoe had Salomo zeventig duizend, die last droegen, en tachtig duizend houwers op het gebergte. 16Behalve de oversten van Salomo's bestelden, die over dat werk waren, drie duizend en driehonderd, die heerschappij hadden over het volk, hetwelk dat werk deed. 17Als de koning het nu gebood, zo voerden zij grote stenen toe, kostelijke stenen, gehouwen stenen, om den grond van dat huis te leggen. 18En de bouwlieden van Salomo, en de bouwlieden van Hiram, en de Giblieten behieuwen ze, en bereidden het hout toe, en de stenen, om dat huis te bouwen.
