1Le roi Salomon aima beaucoup de femmes étrangères, outre la fille de Pharaon : des Moabites, des Ammonites, des Édomites, des Sidoniennes, des Héthiennes, 2appartenant aux nations dont l’Éternel avait dit aux enfants d’Israël : Vous n’irez point chez elles, et elles ne viendront point chez vous ; elles tourneraient certainement vos cœurs du côté de leurs dieux. Ce fut à ces nations que s’attacha Salomon, entraîné par l’amour. 3Il eut sept cents princesses pour femmes et trois cents concubines ; et ses femmes détournèrent son cœur. 4À l’époque de la vieillesse de Salomon, ses femmes inclinèrent son cœur vers d’autres dieux ; et son cœur ne fut point tout entier à l’Éternel, son Dieu, comme l’avait été le cœur de David, son père. 5Salomon alla après Astarté, divinité des Sidoniens, et après Milcom, l’abomination des Ammonites. 6Et Salomon fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l’Éternel, et il ne suivit point pleinement l’Éternel, comme David, son père. 7Alors Salomon bâtit sur la montagne qui est en face de Jérusalem un haut lieu pour Kemosch, l’abomination de Moab, et pour Moloc, l’abomination des fils d’Ammon. 8Et il fit ainsi pour toutes ses femmes étrangères, qui offraient des parfums et des sacrifices à leurs dieux. 9L’Éternel fut irrité contre Salomon, parce qu’il avait détourné son cœur de l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, qui lui était apparu deux fois. 10Il lui avait à cet égard défendu d’aller après d’autres dieux ; mais Salomon n’observa point les ordres de l’Éternel. 11Et l’Éternel dit à Salomon : Puisque tu as agi de la sorte, et que tu n’as point observé mon alliance et mes lois que je t’avais prescrites, je déchirerai le royaume de dessus toi et je le donnerai à ton serviteur. 12Seulement, je ne le ferai point pendant ta vie, à cause de David, ton père. C’est de la main de ton fils que je l’arracherai. 13Je n’arracherai cependant pas tout le royaume ; je laisserai une tribu à ton fils, à cause de David, mon serviteur, et à cause de Jérusalem, que j’ai choisie. 14L’Éternel suscita un ennemi à Salomon : Hadad, l’Édomite, de la race royale d’Édom. 15Dans le temps où David battit Édom, Joab, chef de l’armée, étant monté pour enterrer les morts, tua tous les mâles qui étaient en Édom ; 16il y resta six mois avec tout Israël, jusqu’à ce qu’il en eût exterminé tous les mâles . 17Ce fut alors qu’Hadad prit la fuite avec des Édomites, serviteurs de son père, pour se rendre en Égypte. Hadad était encore un jeune garçon. 18Partis de Madian, ils allèrent à Paran, prirent avec eux des hommes de Paran, et arrivèrent en Égypte auprès de Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, Pharaon donna une maison à Hadad, pourvut à sa subsistance, et lui accorda des terres. 19Hadad trouva grâce aux yeux de Pharaon, à tel point que Pharaon lui donna pour femme la sœur de sa femme, la sœur de la reine Thachpenès. 20La sœur de Thachpenès lui enfanta son fils Guenubath. Thachpenès le sevra dans la maison de Pharaon ; et Guenubath fut dans la maison de Pharaon, au milieu des enfants de Pharaon. 21Lorsque Hadad apprit en Égypte que David était couché avec ses pères, et que Joab, chef de l’armée, était mort, il dit à Pharaon : Laisse-moi aller dans mon pays. 22Et Pharaon lui dit : Que te manque-t-il auprès de moi, pour que tu désires aller dans ton pays ? Il répondit : Rien, mais laisse-moi partir. 23Dieu suscita un autre ennemi à Salomon : Rezon, fils d’Éliada, qui s’était enfui de chez son maître Hadadézer, roi de Tsoba. 24Il avait rassemblé des gens auprès de lui, et il était chef de bande, lorsque David massacra les troupes de son maître. Ils allèrent à Damas, et s’y établirent, et ils régnèrent à Damas. 25Il fut un ennemi d’Israël pendant toute la vie de Salomon, en même temps qu’Hadad lui faisait du mal, et il avait Israël en aversion. Il régna sur la Syrie. 26Jéroboam aussi, serviteur de Salomon, leva la main contre le roi. Il était fils de Nebath, Éphratien de Tseréda, et il avait pour mère une veuve nommée Tserua. 27Voici à quelle occasion il leva la main contre le roi. Salomon bâtissait Millo, et fermait la brèche de la cité de David, son père. 28Jéroboam était fort et vaillant ; et Salomon, ayant vu ce jeune homme à l’œuvre, lui donna la surveillance de tous les gens de corvée de la maison de Joseph. 29Dans ce temps-là, Jéroboam, étant sorti de Jérusalem, fut rencontré en chemin par le prophète Achija de Silo, revêtu d’un manteau neuf. Ils étaient tous deux seuls dans les champs. 30Achija saisit le manteau neuf qu’il avait sur lui, le déchira en douze morceaux, 31et dit à Jéroboam : Prends pour toi dix morceaux ! Car ainsi parle l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël : Voici, je vais arracher le royaume de la main de Salomon, et je te donnerai dix tribus. 32Mais il aura une tribu, à cause de mon serviteur David, et à cause de Jérusalem, la ville que j’ai choisie sur toutes les tribus d’Israël. 33Et cela, parce qu’ils m’ont abandonné, et se sont prosternés devant Astarté, divinité des Sidoniens, devant Kemosch, dieu de Moab, et devant Milcom, dieu des fils d’Ammon, et parce qu’ils n’ont point marché dans mes voies pour faire ce qui est droit à mes yeux et pour observer mes lois et mes ordonnances, comme l’a fait David, père de Salomon. 34Je n’ôterai pas de sa main tout le royaume, car je le maintiendrai prince tout le temps de sa vie, à cause de David, mon serviteur, que j’ai choisi, et qui a observé mes commandements et mes lois. 35Mais j’ôterai le royaume de la main de son fils, et je t’en donnerai dix tribus ; 36je laisserai une tribu à son fils, afin que David, mon serviteur, ait toujours une lampe devant moi à Jérusalem, la ville que j’ai choisie pour y mettre mon nom. 37Je te prendrai, et tu régneras sur tout ce que ton âme désirera, tu seras roi d’Israël. 38Si tu obéis à tout ce que je t’ordonnerai, si tu marches dans mes voies et si tu fais ce qui est droit à mes yeux, en observant mes lois et mes commandements, comme l’a fait David, mon serviteur, je serai avec toi, je te bâtirai une maison stable, comme j’en ai bâti une à David, et je te donnerai Israël. 39J’humilierai par là la postérité de David, mais ce ne sera pas pour toujours. 40Salomon chercha à faire mourir Jéroboam. Et Jéroboam se leva et s’enfuit en Égypte auprès de Schischak, roi d’Égypte ; il demeura en Égypte jusqu’à la mort de Salomon. 41Le reste des actions de Salomon, tout ce qu’il a fait, et sa sagesse, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des actes de Salomon ? 42Salomon régna quarante ans à Jérusalem sur tout Israël. 43Puis Salomon se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré dans la ville de David, son père. Roboam, son fils, régna à sa place.
1Now king Solomon loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites; 2of the nations concerning which Yahweh said to the children of Israel, “You shall not go among them, neither shall they come among you; for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Solomon joined to these in love. 3He had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart. 4When Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with Yahweh his God, as was the heart of David his father. 5For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 6Solomon did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and didn’t go fully after Yahweh, as did David his father. 7Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the mountain that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the children of Ammon. 8So he did for all his foreign wives, who burnt incense and sacrificed to their gods. 9Yahweh was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from Yahweh, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, 10and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he didn’t keep that which Yahweh commanded. 11Therefore Yahweh said to Solomon, “Because this is done by you, and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you, and will give it to your servant. 12Notwithstanding I will not do it in your days, for David your father’s sake; but I will tear it out of the hand of your son. 13However I will not tear away all the kingdom; but I will give one tribe to your son, for David my servant’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake which I have chosen.” 14Yahweh raised up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Edomite: he was of the king’s seed in Edom. 15For when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the army was gone up to bury the slain, and had struck every male in Edom 16(for Joab and all Israel remained there six months, until he had cut off every male in Edom); 17Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of his father’s servants with him, to go into Egypt, Hadad being yet a little child. 18They arose out of Midian, and came to Paran; and they took men with them out of Paran, and they came to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave him a house, and appointed him food, and gave him land. 19Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him as wife the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen. 20The sister of Tahpenes bore him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh’s house; and Genubath was in Pharaoh’s house among the sons of Pharaoh. 21When Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the army was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, “Let me depart, that I may go to my own country.” 22Then Pharaoh said to him, “But what have you lacked with me, that behold, you seek to go to your own country?” He answered, “Nothing, however only let me depart.” 23God raised up an adversary to him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah. 24He gathered men to him, and became captain over a troop, when David killed them of Zobah: and they went to Damascus, and lived therein, and reigned in Damascus. 25He was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, besides the mischief of Hadad: and he abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria. 26Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow, he also lifted up his hand against the king. 27This was the reason why he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breach of the city of David his father. 28The man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor; and Solomon saw the young man that he was industrious, and he put him in charge of all the labor of the house of Joseph. 29At that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him on the way; now Ahijah had clad himself with a new garment; and they two were alone in the field. 30Ahijah laid hold of the new garment that was on him, and tore it in twelve pieces. 31He said to Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces; for thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to you 32(but he shall have one tribe, for my servant David’s sake and for Jerusalem’s sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel); 33because that they have forsaken me, and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon. They have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my eyes, and to keep my statutes and my ordinances, as David his father did. 34“‘However I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand; but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David my servant’s sake whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes; 35but I will take the kingdom out of his son’s hand, and will give it to you, even ten tribes. 36To his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a lamp always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there. 37I will take you, and you shall reign according to all that your soul desires, and shall be king over Israel. 38It shall be, if you will listen to all that I command you, and will walk in my ways, and do that which is right in my eyes, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did; that I will be with you, and will build you a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel to you. 39I will for this afflict the seed of David, but not forever.’” 40Solomon sought therefore to kill Jeroboam; but Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon. 41Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, aren’t they written in the book of the acts of Solomon? 42The time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years. 43Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.
1En de koning Salomo had veel vreemde vrouwen lief, en dat benevens de dochter van Farao: Moabietische, Ammonietische, Edomietische, Sidonische, Hethietische; 2Van die volken, waarvan de HEERE gezegd had tot de kinderen Israels: Gijlieden zult tot hen niet ingaan, en zij zullen tot u niet inkomen; zij zouden zekerlijk uw hart achter hun goden neigen; aan deze hing Salomo met liefde. 3En hij had zevenhonderd vrouwen, vorstinnen, en driehonderd bijwijven; en zijn vrouwen neigden zijn hart. 4Want het geschiedde in den tijd van Salomo's ouderdom, dat zijn vrouwen zijn hart achter andere goden neigden; dat zijn hart niet volkomen was met den HEERE, zijn God, gelijk het hart van zijn vader David. 5Want Salomo wandelde Astoreth, den god der Sidoniers, na, en Milchom, het verfoeisel der Ammonieten. 6Alzo deed Salomo dat kwaad was in de ogen des HEEREN; en volhardde niet den HEERE te volgen, gelijk zijn vader David. 7Toen bouwde Salomo een hoogte voor Kamos, het verfoeisel der Moabieten, op den berg, die voor Jeruzalem is, en voor Molech, het verfoeisel der kinderen Ammons. 8En alzo deed hij voor al zijn vreemde vrouwen, die haar goden rookten en offerden. 9Daarom vertoornde Zich de HEERE tegen Salomo, omdat hij zijn hart geneigd had van den HEERE, den God Israels, Die hem tweemaal verschenen was. 10En hem van deze zaak geboden had, dat hij andere goden niet zou nawandelen; doch hij hield niet, wat de HEERE geboden had. 11Daarom zeide de HEERE tot Salomo: Dewijl dit bij u geschied is, dat gij niet hebt gehouden Mijn verbond en Mijn inzettingen, die Ik u geboden heb; Ik zal gewisselijk dit koninkrijk van u scheuren, en datzelve uw knecht geven. 12In uw dagen nochtans zal Ik dat niet doen, om uws vaders Davids wil, van de hand uws zoons zal Ik het scheuren. 13Doch Ik zal het gehele koninkrijk niet afscheuren; een stam zal Ik uw zoon geven, om Mijns knechts Davids wil, en om Jeruzalems wil, dat Ik verkoren heb. 14Zo verwekte de HEERE Salomo een tegenpartijder, Hadad, den Edomiet; hij was van des konings zaad in Edom. 15Want het was geschied, als David in Edom was, toen Joab, de krijgsoverste, optoog, om de verslagenen te begraven, dat hij al wat mannelijk was in Edom sloeg; 16Want Joab bleef aldaar zes maanden, met het ganse Israel, totdat hij al wat mannelijk was in Edom uitgeroeid had. 17Doch Hadad was ontvloden, hij en enige Edomietische mannen uit zijns vaders knechten met hem, om in Egypte te komen; Hadad nu was een klein jongsken. 18En zij maakten zich op van Midian, en kwamen tot Paran, en kwamen in Egypte tot Farao, den koning van Egypte, die hem een huis gaf, en hem voeding toezeide, en hem een land gaf. 19En Hadad vond grote genade in de ogen van Farao, zodat hij hem tot een vrouw gaf de zuster zijner huisvrouw, de zuster van Tachpenes, de koningin. 20En de zuster van Tachpenes baarde hem zijn zoon Genubath, denwelken Tachpenes optoog in het huis van Farao; zodat Genubath in het huis van Farao was, onder de zonen van Farao. 21Toen nu Hadad in Egypte hoorde, dat David met zijn vaderen ontslapen, en dat Joab, de krijgsoverste, dood was, zeide Hadad tot Farao: Laat mij gaan, dat ik in mijn land trekke. 22Doch Farao zeide: Maar wat ontbreekt u bij mij, dat, zie, gij in uw land zoekt te trekken? En hij zeide: Niets, maar laat mij evenwel gaan. 23Ook verwekte God hem een wederpartijder, Rezon, den zoon van Eljada, die gevloden was van zijn heer Hadad-ezer, den koning van Zoba, 24Tegen welken hij ook mannen vergaderd had, en werd overste ener bende, als David die doodde; en getrokken zijnde naar Damaskus, woonden zij aldaar, en regeerden in Damaskus. 25En hij was Israels tegenpartijder al de dagen van Salomo, en dat benevens het kwaad, dat Hadad deed; want hij had een afkeer van Israel, en hij regeerde over Syrie. 26Daartoe Jerobeam, de zoon van Nebat, een Efrathiet van Zereda, Salomo's knecht (wiens moeders naam was Zerua, een weduwvrouw), hief ook de hand op tegen den koning. 27Dit is nu de zaak, waarom hij de hand tegen den koning ophief. Salomo bouwde Millo, en sloot de breuk der stad van zijn vader David toe. 28En de man Jerobeam was een dapper held. Toen Salomo dezen jongeling zag, dat hij arbeidzaam was, zo stelde hij hem over al den last van het huis van Jozef. 29Het geschiedde nu te dier tijd, als Jerobeam uit Jeruzalem uitging, dat de profeet Ahia, de Siloniet, hem op den weg vond, en hij zich een nieuw kleed aangedaan had, en zij beiden alleen op het veld waren; 30Zo vatte Ahia het nieuwe kleed, dat aan hem was, en scheurde het, in twaalf stukken. 31En hij zeide tot Jerobeam: Neem u tien stukken; want alzo zegt de HEERE, de God Israels: Zie, Ik zal het koninkrijk van de hand van Salomo scheuren, en u tien stammen geven. 32Maar een stam zal hij hebben, om Mijns knechts Davids wil, en om Jeruzalems wil, de stad, die Ik verkoren heb uit alle stammen van Israel. 33Daarom dat zij Mij verlaten, en zich nedergebogen hebben voor Astoreth, den god der Sidoniers, Kamos, den god der Moabieten, en Milchom, den god der kinderen Ammons; en niet gewandeld hebben in Mijn wegen, om te doen wat recht is in Mijn ogen, te weten Mijn inzettingen en Mijn rechten; gelijk zijn vader David. 34Doch niets van dit koninkrijk zal Ik uit zijn hand nemen; maar Ik stel hem tot een vorst al de dagen zijns levens, om Mijns knechts Davids wil, dien Ik verkoren heb, die Mijn geboden en Mijn inzettingen gehouden heeft. 35Maar uit de hand zijns zoons zal Ik het koninkrijk nemen; en Ik zal u daarvan tien stammen geven. 36En zijn zoon zal Ik een stam geven; opdat Mijn knecht David altijd een lamp voor Mijn aangezicht hebbe in Jeruzalem, de stad, die Ik Mij verkoren heb, om Mijn Naam daar te stellen. 37Zo zal Ik u nemen, en gij zult regeren over al wat uw ziel zal begeren; en gij zult koning zijn over Israel. 38En het zal geschieden, zo gij horen zult al wat Ik u zal gebieden, en in Mijn wegen zult wandelen, en doen wat recht in Mijn ogen is, houdende Mijn inzettingen en Mijn geboden, gelijk als Mijn knecht David gedaan heeft; dat Ik met u zal zijn, en u een bestendig huis bouwen, gelijk als Ik David gebouwd heb, en zal u Israel geven. 39En Ik zal om diens wil het zaad van David verootmoedigen; nochtans niet altijd. 40Daarom zocht Salomo Jerobeam te doden; maar Jerobeam maakte zich op, en vlood in Egypte, tot Sisak, den koning van Egypte, en was in Egypte, totdat Salomo stierf. 41Het overige nu der geschiedenissen van Salomo, en al wat hij gedaan heeft, en zijn wijsheid, is dat niet geschreven in het boek der geschiedenissen van Salomo? 42De tijd nu, dien Salomo te Jeruzalem over het ganse Israel regeerde, was veertig jaar. 43Daarna ontsliep Salomo met zijn vaderen, en werd begraven in de stad van zijn vader David; en Rehabeam, zijn zoon, werd koning in zijn plaats.
