1MEJOR es el pobre que camina en su sencillez, que el de perversos labios y fatuo. 2El alma sin ciencia no es buena; y el presuroso de pies peca. 3La insensatez del hombre tuerce su camino; y contra Jehová se aira su corazón. 4Las riquezas allegan muchos amigos: mas el pobre, de su amigo es apartado. 5El testigo falso no quedará sin castigo; y el que habla mentiras no escapará. 6Muchos rogarán al príncipe: mas cada uno es amigo del hombre que da. 7Todos los hermanos del pobre le aborrecen: ¡cuánto más sus amigos se alejarán de él! buscará la palabra y no la hallará. 8El que posee entendimiento, ama su alma: el que guarda la inteligencia, hallará el bien. 9El testigo falso no quedará sin castigo; y el que habla mentiras, perecerá. 10No conviene al necio el deleite: ¡cuánto menos al siervo ser señor de los príncipes! 11La cordura del hombre detiene su furor; y su honra es disimular la ofensa. 12Como el bramido del cachorro de león es la ira del rey; y su favor como el rocío sobre la hierba. 13Dolor es para su padre el hijo necio; y gotera continua las contiendas de la mujer. 14La casa y las riquezas herencia son de los padres: mas de Jehová la mujer prudente. 15La pereza hace caer en sueño; y el alma negligente hambreará. 16El que guarda el mandamiento, guarda su alma: mas el que menospreciare sus caminos, morirá. 17A Jehová empresta el que da al pobre, y él le dará su paga. 18Castiga á tu hijo en tanto que hay esperanza; mas no se excite tu alma para destruirlo. 19El de grande ira llevará la pena: y si usa de violencias, añadirá nuevos males. 20Escucha el consejo, y recibe la corrección, para que seas sabio en tu vejez. 21Muchos pensamientos hay en el corazón del hombre; mas el consejo de Jehová permanecerá. 22Contentamiento es á los hombres hacer misericordia: pero mejor es el pobre que el mentiroso. 23El temor de Jehová es para vida; y con él vivirá el hombre, lleno de reposo; no será visitado de mal. 24El perezoso esconde su mano en el seno: aun á su boca no la llevará. 25Hiere al escarnecedor, y el simple se hará avisado; y corrigiendo al entendido, entenderá ciencia. 26El que roba á su padre y ahuyenta á su madre, hijo es avergonzador y deshonrador. 27Cesa, hijo mío, de oir la enseñanza que induce á divagar de las razones de sabiduría. 28El testigo perverso se burlará del juicio; y la boca de los impíos encubrirá la iniquidad. 29Aparejados están juicios para los escarnecedores, y azotes para los cuerpos de los insensatos.
1Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool. 2It isn’t good to have zeal without knowledge; nor being hasty with one’s feet and missing the way. 3The foolishness of man subverts his way; his heart rages against Yahweh. 4Wealth adds many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend. 5A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free. 6Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts. 7All the relatives of the poor shun him: how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone. 8He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good. 9A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish. 10Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes. 11The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense. 12The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass. 13A foolish son is the calamity of his father. A wife’s quarrels are a continual dripping. 14House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh. 15Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger. 16He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die. 17He who has pity on the poor lends to Yahweh; he will reward him. 18Discipline your son, for there is hope; don’t be a willing party to his death. 19A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again. 20Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end. 21There are many plans in a man’s heart, but Yahweh’s counsel will prevail. 22That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar. 23The fear of Yahweh leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble. 24The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again. 25Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge. 26He who robs his father and drives away his mother, is a son who causes shame and brings reproach. 27If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge. 28A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity. 29Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
1De arme, in zijn oprechtheid wandelende, is beter dan de verkeerde van lippen, en die een zot is. 2Ook is de ziel zonder wetenschap niet goed; en die met de voeten haastig is, zondigt. 3De dwaasheid des mensen zal zijn weg verkeren; en zijn hart zal zich tegen den HEERE vergrammen. 4Het goed brengt veel vrienden toe; maar de arme wordt van zijn vriend gescheiden. 5Een vals getuige zal niet onschuldig zijn; en die leugen blaast, zal niet ontkomen. 6Velen smeken het aangezicht des prinsen; en een ieder is een vriend desgenen, die giften geeft. 7Al de broeders des armen haten hem; hoeveel te meer gaan zijn vrienden verre van hem! Hij loopt hen na met woorden die niets zijn. 8Die verstand bekomt, heeft zijn ziel lief; hij neemt de verstandigheid waar, om het goede te vinden. 9Een vals getuige zal niet onschuldig zijn; en die leugen blaast, zal vergaan. 10De weelde staat een zot niet wel; hoeveel te min een knecht te heersen over vorsten! 11Het verstand des mensen vertrekt zijn toorn; en zijn sieraad is de overtreding voorbij te gaan. 12Des konings gramschap is als het brullen eens jongen leeuws; maar zijn welgevallen is als dauw op het kruid. 13Een zotte zoon is zijn vader grote ellende; en de kijvingen ener vrouw als een gestadig druipen. 14Huis en goed is een erve van de vaderen; maar een verstandige vrouw is van den HEERE. 15Luiheid doet in diepen slaap vallen; en een bedriegelijke ziel zal hongeren. 16Die het gebod bewaart, bewaart zijn ziel; die zijn wegen veracht, zal sterven. 17Die zich des armen ontfermt, leent den HEERE, en Hij zal hem zijn weldaad vergelden. 18Tuchtig uw zoon, als er nog hoop is; maar verhef uw ziel niet, om hem te doden. 19Die groot is van grimmigheid, zal straf dragen; want zo gij hem uitredt, zo zult gij nog moeten voortvaren. 20Hoor raad, en ontvang tucht, opdat gij in uw laatste wijs zijt. 21In het hart des mans zijn veel gedachten; maar de raad des HEEREN, die zal bestaan. 22De wens des mensen is zijn weldadigheid; maar de arme is beter dan een leugenachtig man. 23De vreze des HEEREN is ten leven; want men zal verzadigd zijnde vernachten; met het kwaad zal men niet bezocht worden. 24Een luiaard verbergt de hand in den boezem, en hij zal ze niet weder aan zijn mond brengen. 25Sla de spotter, zo zal de slechte kloekzinnig worden; en bestraf den verstandige, hij zal wetenschap begrijpen. 26Wie de vader verwoest, of de moeder verjaagt, is een zoon, die beschaamd maakt, en schande aandoet. 27Laat af, mijn zoon, horende de tucht, af te dwalen van de redenen der wetenschap. 28Een Belialsgetuige bespot het recht; en de mond der goddelozen slokt de ongerechtigheid in. 29Gerichten zijn voor de spotters bereid, en slagen voor den rug der zotten.
