1Y ACONTECIÓ en aquellos días que salió edicto de parte de Augusto César, que toda la tierra fuese empadronada. 2Este empadronamiento primero fué hecho siendo Cirenio gobernador de la Siria. 3E iban todos para ser empadronados, cada uno á su ciudad. 4Y subió José de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, á Judea, á la ciudad de David, que se llama Bethlehem, por cuanto era de la casa y familia de David; 5Para ser empadronado con María su mujer, desposada con él, la cual estaba en cinta. 6Y aconteció que estando ellos allí, se cumplieron los días en que ella había de parir. 7Y parió á su hijo primogénito, y le envolvió en pañales, y acostóle en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón. 8Y había pastores en la misma tierra, que velaban y guardaban las vigilias de la noche sobre su ganado. 9Y he aquí el ángel del Señor vino sobre ellos, y la claridad de Dios los cercó de resplandor; y tuvieron gran temor. 10Mas el ángel les dijo: No temáis; porque he aquí os doy nuevas de gran gozo, que será para todo el pueblo: 11Que os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un Salvador, que es CRISTO el Señor. 12Y esto os será por señal: hallaréis al niño envuelto en pañales, echado en un pesebre. 13Y repentinamente fué con el ángel una multitud de los ejércitos celestiales, que alababan á Dios, y decían: 14Gloria en las alturas á Dios, y en la tierra paz, buena voluntad para con los hombres. 15Y aconteció que como los ángeles se fueron de ellos al cielo, los pastores dijeron los unos á los otros: Pasemos pues hasta Bethlehem, y veamos esto que ha sucedido, que el Señor nos ha manifestado. 16Y vinieron apriesa, y hallaron á María, y á José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre. 17Y viéndolo, hicieron notorio lo que les había sido dicho del niño. 18Y todos los que oyeron, se maravillaron de lo que los pastores les decían. 19Mas María guardaba todas estas cosas, confiriéndolas en su corazón. 20Y se volvieron los pastores glorificando y alabando á Dios de todas las cosas que habían oído y visto, como les había sido dicho. 21Y pasados los ocho días para circuncidar al niño, llamaron su nombre JESÚS; el cual le fué puesto por el ángel antes que él fuese concebido en el vientre. 22Y como se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ella, conforme á la ley de Moisés, le trajeron á Jerusalem para presentarle al Señor, 23(Como está escrito en la ley del Señor: Todo varón que abriere la matriz, será llamado santo al Señor), 24Y para dar la ofrenda, conforme á lo que está dicho en la ley del Señor: un par de tórtolas, ó dos palominos. 25Y he aquí, había un hombre en Jerusalem, llamado Simeón, y este hombre, justo y pío, esperaba la consolación de Israel: y el Espíritu Santo era sobre él. 26Y había recibido respuesta del Espíritu Santo, que no vería la muerte antes que viese al Cristo del Señor. 27Y vino por Espíritu al templo. Y cuando metieron al niño Jesús sus padres en el templo, para hacer por él conforme á la costumbre de la ley, 28Entonces él le tomó en sus brazos, y bendijo á Dios, y dijo: 29Ahora despides, Señor, á tu siervo, conforme á tu palabra, en paz; 30Porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación, 31La cual has aparejado en presencia de todos los pueblos; 32Luz para ser revelada á los Gentiles, y la gloria de tu pueblo Israel. 33Y José y su madre estaban maravillados de las cosas que se decían de él. 34Y los bendijo Simeón, y dijo á su madre María: He aquí, éste es puesto para caída y para levantamiento de muchos en Israel; y para señal á la que será contradicho; 35Y una espada traspasará tu alma de ti misma, para que sean manifestados los pensamientos de muchos corazones. 36Estaba también allí Ana, profetisa, hija de Phanuel, de la tribu de Aser; la cual había venido en grande edad, y había vivido con su marido siete años desde su virginidad; 37Y era viuda de hasta ochenta y cuatro años, que no se apartaba del templo, sirviendo de noche y de día con ayunos y oraciones. 38Y ésta, sobreviniendo en la misma hora, juntamente confesaba al Señor, y hablaba de él á todos los que esperaban la redención en Jerusalem. 39Mas como cumplieron todas las cosas según la ley del Señor, se volvieron á Galilea, á su ciudad de Nazaret. 40Y el niño crecía, y fortalecíase, y se henchía de sabiduría; y la gracia de Dios era sobre él. 41E iban sus padres todos los años á Jerusalem en la fiesta de la Pascua. 42Y cuando fué de doce años, subieron ellos á Jerusalem conforme á la costumbre del día de la fiesta. 43Y acabados los días, volviendo ellos, se quedó el niño Jesús en Jerusalem, sin saberlo José y su madre. 44Y pensando que estaba en la compañía, anduvieron camino de un día; y le buscaban entre los parientes y entre los conocidos: 45Mas como no le hallasen, volvieron á Jerusalem buscándole. 46Y aconteció, que tres días después le hallaron en el templo, sentado en medio de los doctores, oyéndoles y preguntándoles. 47Y todos los que le oían, se pasmaban de su entendimiento y de sus respuestas. 48Y cuando le vieron, se maravillaron; y díjole su madre: Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho así? He aquí, tu padre y yo te hemos buscado con dolor. 49Entonces él les dice: ¿Qué hay? ¿por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que en los negocios de mi Padre me conviene estar? 50Mas ellos no entendieron las palabras que les habló. 51Y descendió con ellos, y vino á Nazaret, y estaba sujeto á ellos. Y su madre guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón. 52Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría, y en edad, y en gracia para con Dios y los hombres.
1Now in those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled. 2This was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3All went to enroll themselves, everyone to his own city. 4Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David; 5to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him as wife, being pregnant. 6While they were there, the day had come for her to give birth. 7She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn. 8There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock. 9Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people. 11For there is born to you, this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough.” 13Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God, and saying, 14“Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men.” 15When the angels went away from them into the sky, the shepherds said one to another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16They came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby was lying in the feeding trough. 17When they saw it, they publicized widely the saying which was spoken to them about this child. 18All who heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds. 19But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them. 21When eight days were fulfilled for the circumcision of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. 22When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord 23(as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), 24and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” 25Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law, 28then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29“Now you are releasing your servant, Master, according to your word, in peace; 30for my eyes have seen your salvation, 31which you have prepared before the face of all peoples; 32a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel.” 33Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him, 34and Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, “Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against. 35Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” 36There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity, 37and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn’t depart from the temple, worshiping with fastings and petitions night and day. 38Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem. 39When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. 40The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him. 41His parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover. 42When he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast, 43and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. Joseph and his mother didn’t know it, 44but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey, and they looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances. 45When they didn’t find him, they returned to Jerusalem, looking for him. 46After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them, and asking them questions. 47All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48When they saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us this way? Behold, your father and I were anxiously looking for you.” 49He said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?” 50They didn’t understand the saying which he spoke to them. 51And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth. He was subject to them, and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. 52And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
1En het geschiedde in diezelfde dagen, dat er een gebod uitging van den Keizer Augustus, dat de gehele wereld beschreven zou worden. 2Deze eerste beschrijving geschiedde, als Cyrenius over Syrie stadhouder was. 3En zij gingen allen om beschreven te worden, een iegelijk naar zijn eigen stad. 4En Jozef ging ook op van Galilea, uit de stad Nazareth, naar Judea, tot de stad Davids, die Bethlehem genaamd wordt, (omdat hij uit het huis en geslacht van David was); 5Om beschreven te worden met Maria, zijn ondertrouwde vrouw, welke bevrucht was. 6En het geschiedde, als zij daar waren, dat de dagen vervuld werden, dat zij baren zoude. 7En zij baarde haar eerstgeboren Zoon, en wond Hem in doeken, en legde Hem neder in de kribbe, omdat voor henlieden geen plaats was in de herberg. 8En er waren herders in diezelfde landstreek, zich houdende in het veld, en hielden de nachtwacht over hun kudde. 9En ziet, een engel des Heeren stond bij hen, en de heerlijkheid des Heeren omscheen hen, en zij vreesden met grote vreze. 10En de engel zeide tot hen: Vreest niet, want, ziet, ik verkondig u grote blijdschap, die al den volke wezen zal; 11Namelijk dat u heden geboren is de Zaligmaker, welke is Christus, de Heere, in de stad Davids. 12En dit zal u het teken zijn: gij zult het Kindeken vinden in doeken gewonden, en liggende in de kribbe. 13En van stonde aan was er met den engel een menigte des hemelsen heirlegers, prijzende God en zeggende: 14Ere zij God in de hoogste hemelen, en vrede op aarde, in de mensen een welbehagen. 15En het geschiedde, als de engelen van hen weggevaren waren naar de hemel, dat de herders tot elkander zeiden: Laat ons dan heengaan naar Bethlehem, en laat ons zien het woord, dat er geschied is, hetwelk de Heere ons heeft verkondigd. 16En zij kwamen met haast, en vonden Maria en Jozef, en het Kindeken liggende in de kribbe. 17En als zij Het gezien hadden, maakten zij alom bekend het woord, dat hun van dit Kindeken gezegd was. 18En allen, die het hoorden, verwonderden zich over hetgeen hun gezegd werd van de herders. 19Doch Maria bewaarde deze woorden alle te zamen, overleggende die in haar hart. 20En de herders keerde wederom, verheerlijkende en prijzende God over alles, wat zij gehoord en gezien hadden, gelijk tot hen gesproken was. 21En als acht dagen vervuld waren, dat men het Kindeken besnijden zou, zo werd Zijn Naam genaamd JEZUS, welke genaamd was van den engel, eer Hij in het lichaam ontvangen was. 22En als de dagen harer reiniging vervuld waren, naar de wet van Mozes, brachten zij Hem te Jeruzalem, opdat zij Hem den Heere voorstelden; 23(Gelijk geschreven is in de wet des Heeren: Al wat mannelijk is, dat de moeder opent, zal den Heere heilig genaamd worden.) 24En opdat zij offerande gaven, naar hetgeen in de wet des Heeren gezegd is, een paar tortelduiven, of twee jonge duiven. 25En ziet, er was een mens te Jeruzalem, wiens naam was Simeon; en deze mens was rechtvaardig en godvrezende; verwachtende de vertroosting Israels, en de Heilige Geest was op hem. 26En hem was een Goddelijke openbaring gedaan door den Heiligen Geest, dat hij den dood niet zien zoude, eer hij den Christus des Heeren zou zien. 27En hij kwam door den Geest in den tempel. En als de ouders het Kindeken Jezus inbrachten, om naar de gewoonte der wet met Hem te doen; 28Zo nam hij Hetzelve in zijn armen, en loofde God, en zeide: 29Nu laat Gij, Heere! Uw dienstknecht gaan in vrede naar Uw woord; 30Want mijn ogen hebben Uw zaligheid gezien, 31Die Gij bereid hebt voor het aangezicht van al de volken; 32Een Licht tot verlichting der heidenen, en tot heerlijkheid van Uw volk Israel. 33En Jozef en Zijn moeder verwonderden zich over hetgeen van Hem gezegd werd. 34En Simeon zegende henlieden, en zeide tot Maria, Zijn moeder: Zie, Deze wordt gezet tot een val en opstanding veler in Israel, en tot een teken, dat wedersproken zal worden. 35(En ook een zwaard zal door uw eigen ziel gaan) opdat de gedachten uit vele harten geopenbaard worden. 36En er was Anna, een profetesse, een dochter van Fanuel, uit den stam van Aser; deze was tot groten ouderdom gekomen, welke met haar man zeven jaren had geleefd van haar maagdom af. 37En zij was een weduwe van omtrent vier en tachtig jaren, dewelke niet week uit den tempel, met vasten en bidden, God dienende nacht en dag. 38En deze, te dierzelfder ure daarbij komende, heeft insgelijks den Heere beleden, en sprak van Hem tot allen, die de verlossing in Jeruzalem verwachtten. 39En als zij alles voleindigd hadden, wat naar de wet des Heeren te doen was, keerden zij weder naar Galilea, tot hun stad Nazareth. 40En het Kindeken wies op, en werd gesterkt in den geest, en vervuld met wijsheid; en de genade Gods was over Hem. 41En Zijn ouders reisden alle jaar naar Jeruzalem, op het feest van pascha. 42En toen Hij twaalf jaren oud geworden was, en zij naar Jeruzalem opgegaan waren, naar de gewoonte van den feestdag; 43En de dagen aldaar voleindigd hadden, toen zij wederkeerden, bleef het Kind Jezus te Jeruzalem, en Jozef en Zijn moeder wisten het niet. 44Maar menende, dat Hij in het gezelschap op den weg was, gingen zij een dagreize, en zochten Hem onder de magen, en onder de bekenden. 45En als zij Hem niet vonden, keerden zij wederom naar Jeruzalem, Hem zoekende. 46En het geschiedde, na drie dagen, dat zij Hem vonden in den tempel, zittende in het midden der leraren, hen horende, en hen ondervragende. 47En allen, die Hem hoorden, ontzetten zich over Zijn verstand en antwoorden. 48En zij, Hem ziende, werden verslagen; en Zijn moeder zeide tot Hem: Kind! waarom hebt Gij ons zo gedaan? Zie, Uw vader en ik hebben U met angst gezocht. 49En Hij zeide tot hen: Wat is het, dat gij Mij gezocht hebt? Wist gij niet, dat Ik moet zijn in de dingen Mijns Vaders? 50En zij verstonden het woord niet, dat Hij tot hen sprak. 51En Hij ging met hen af, en kwam te Nazareth, en was hun onderdanig. En Zijn moeder bewaarde al deze dingen in haar hart. 52En Jezus nam toe in wijsheid, en in grootte, en in genade bij God en de mensen.
