Ούτω λέγει Κύριος· Μήπως δεν έχει υιούς ο Ισραήλ; δεν έχει κληρονόμον; διά τι ο Μαλχόμ εκληρονόμησε την Γαδ και ο λαός αυτού κατοικεί εν ταις πόλεσιν εκείνου; 2Διά τούτο, ιδού, έρχονται ημέραι, λέγει Κύριος, και θέλω κάμει να ακουσθή εν Ραββά των υιών Αμμών θόρυβος πολέμου· και θέλει είσθαι σωρός ερειπίων και αι κώμαι αυτής θέλουσι κατακαυθή εν πυρί· τότε ο Ισραήλ θέλει κληρονομήσει τους κληρονομήσαντας αυτόν, λέγει Κύριος. 3Ολόλυξον, Εσεβών, διότι η Γαί ελεηλατήθη· βοήσατε, αι κώμαι της Ραββά, περιζώσθητε σάκκους· θρηνήσατε και περιδράμετε διά των φραγμών· διότι ο Μαλχόμ θέλει υπάγει εις αιχμαλωσίαν, οι ιερείς αυτού και οι άρχοντες αυτού ομού. 4Διά τι καυχάσαι εις τας κοιλάδας; η κοιλάς σου διέρρευσε, θυγάτηρ αποστάτρια, ήτις ήλπιζες επί τους θησαυρούς σου, λέγουσα, Τις θέλει ελθεί εναντίον μου; 5Ιδού, εγώ φέρω φόβον επί σε, λέγει Κύριος ο Θεός των δυνάμεων, από πάντων των περιοίκων σου· και θέλετε διασκορπισθή έκαστος κατά πρόσωπον αυτού· και δεν θέλει υπάρχει ο συνάξων τον πλανώμενον. 6Και μετά ταύτα θέλω επιστρέψει την αιχμαλωσίαν των υιών Αμμών, λέγει Κύριος. 7Περί του Εδώμ. Ούτω λέγει ο Κύριος των δυνάμεων· δεν είναι πλέον σοφία εν Θαιμάν; εχάθη η βουλή από των συνετών; έφυγεν η σοφία αυτών; 8Φύγετε, στραφήτε, κάμετε τόπους βαθείς διά κατοικίαν, κάτοικοι της Δαιδάν· διότι θέλω φέρει επ' αυτόν τον όλεθρον του Ησαύ, τον καιρόν της επισκέψεως αυτού. 9Εάν ήρχοντο προς σε τρυγηταί, δεν ήθελον αφήσει επιφυλλίδας; εάν κλέπται διά νυκτός, ήθελον αρπάσει το αρκούν εις αυτούς. 10Αλλ' εγώ εγύμνωσα τον Ησαύ, ανεκάλυψα τους κρυψώνας αυτού, και δεν θέλει δυνηθή να κρυφθή· ελεηλατήθη το σπέρμα αυτού και οι αδελφοί αυτού και οι γείτονες αυτού, και αυτός δεν υπάρχει. 11Άφες τα ορφανά σου· εγώ θέλω ζωογονήσει αυτά· και αι χήραί σου ας ελπίζωσιν επ' εμέ. 12Διότι ούτω λέγει Κύριος· Ιδού, εκείνοι εις τους οποίους δεν προσήκε να πίωσιν από του ποτηρίου, τωόντι έπιον· και συ θέλεις μείνει όλως ατιμώρητος; δεν θέλεις μείνει ατιμώρητος αλλ' εξάπαντος θέλεις πίει. 13Διότι ώμοσα εις εμαυτόν, λέγει Κύριος, ότι η Βοσόρρα θέλει είσθαι εις θάμβος, εις όνειδος, εις ερήμωσιν και εις κατάραν· και πάσαι αι πόλεις αυτής θέλουσιν είσθαι έρημοι εις τον αιώνα. 14Ήκουσα αγγελίαν παρά Κυρίου και μηνυτής απεστάλη προς τα έθνη, λέγων, Συνάχθητε και έλθετε εναντίον αυτής και σηκώθητε εις πόλεμον. 15Διότι ιδού, θέλω σε κάμει μικρόν μεταξύ των εθνών, ευκαταφρόνητον μεταξύ των ανθρώπων. 16Η τρομερότης σου σε ηπάτησε και η υπερηφανία της καρδίας σου, συ ο κατοικών εν τοις κοιλώμασι των κρημνών, ο κατέχων το ύψος των βουνών· και αν υψώσης την φωλεάν σου ως ο αετός, και εκείθεν θέλω σε καταβιβάσει, λέγει Κύριος. 17Και ο Εδώμ θέλει είσθαι εις θάμβος· πας ο διαβαίνων δι' αυτού θέλει εκθαμβηθή και θέλει συρίξει επί πάσαις ταις πληγαίς αυτού. 18Καθώς κατεστράφησαν τα Σόδομα και τα Γόμορρα και τα πλησιόχωρα αυτών, λέγει Κύριος, ούτως άνθρωπος δεν θέλει κατοικήσει εκεί ουδέ υιός ανθρώπου θέλει παροικήσει εκεί. 19Ιδού, θέλει αναβή ως λέων από του φρυάγματος του Ιορδάνου εναντίον της κατοικίας του δυνατού· αλλ' εγώ ταχέως θέλω εκδιώξει τούτον απ' αυτής· και όστις είναι ο εκλεκτός μου, τούτον θέλω καταστήσει επ' αυτήν· διότι τις όμοιός μου; και τις θέλει αντισταθή εις εμέ; και τις ο ποιμήν εκείνος, όστις θέλει σταθή κατά πρόσωπόν μου; 20Διά τούτο ακούσατε την βουλήν του Κυρίου, την οποίαν εβουλεύθη κατά του Εδώμ, και τους λογισμούς αυτού, τους οποίους ελογίσθη κατά των κατοίκων της Θαιμάν· Εξάπαντος και τα ελάχιστα του ποιμνίου θέλουσι κατασύρει αυτούς· εξάπαντος η κατοικία αυτών θέλει ερημωθή μετ' αυτών. 21Από του ήχου της αλώσεως αυτών εσείσθη η γή· ο ήχος της φωνής αυτής ηκούσθη εν τη Ερυθρά θαλάσση. 22Ιδού, θέλει αναβή και πετάξει ως αετός, και θέλει απλώσει τας πτέρυγας αυτού επί Βοσόρραν· και εν τη ημέρα εκείνη η καρδία των ισχυρών του Εδώμ θέλει είσθαι ως καρδία γυναικός κοιλοπονούσης. 23Περί της Δαμασκού. Κατησχύνθη η Αιμάθ και η Αρφάδ· διότι ήκουσαν κακήν αγγελίαν· ανελύθησαν· ταραχή είναι εν τη θαλάσση· δεν δύναται να ησυχάση. 24Η Δαμασκός παρελύθη, εστράφη εις φυγήν, και τρόμος κατέλαβεν αυτήν· αγωνία και πόνοι εκυρίευσαν αυτήν ως τικτούσης. 25Πως δεν εναπελείφθη η πόλις η ευκλεής, η πόλις της ευφροσύνης μου. 26Διά τούτο οι νέοι αυτής θέλουσι πέσει εν ταις πλατείαις αυτής, και πάντες οι άνδρες οι πολεμισταί θέλουσιν απολεσθή κατ' εκείνην την ημέραν, λέγει ο Κύριος των δυνάμεων. 27Και θέλω ανάψει πυρ εν τω τείχει της Δαμασκού και θέλει καταφάγει τα παλάτια του Βεν-αδάδ. 28Περί της Κηδάρ, και περί των βασιλείων της Ασώρ, τα οποία επάταξε Ναβουχοδονόσορ ο βασιλεύς της Βαβυλώνος. Ούτω λέγει Κύριος· Σηκώθητε, ανάβητε προς την Κηδάρ και λεηλατήσατε τους υιούς της ανατολής. 29Θέλουσι κυριεύσει τας σκηνάς αυτών και τα ποίμνια αυτών· θέλουσι λάβει εις εαυτούς τα παραπετάσματα αυτών και πάσαν την αποσκευήν αυτών και τας καμήλους αυτών· και θέλουσι βοήσει προς αυτούς, Τρόμος πανταχόθεν. 30Φύγετε, υπάγετε μακράν, κάμετε τόπους βαθείς διά κατοικίαν, κάτοικοι της Ασώρ, λέγει Κύριος· διότι Ναβουχοδονόσορ ο βασιλεύς της Βαβυλώνος εβουλεύθη βουλήν εναντίον σας και ελογίσθη λογισμούς εναντίον σας. 31Σηκώθητε, ανάβητε εις το ήσυχον έθνος το κατοικούν εν ασφαλεία, λέγει Κύριος· οίτινες δεν έχουσι πύλας ουδέ μοχλούς αλλά κατοικούσι μόνοι· 32και αι κάμηλοι αυτών θέλουσιν είσθαι λεηλασία και το πλήθος των κτηνών αυτών λάφυρον· και θέλω διασκορπίσει αυτούς εις πάντας τους ανέμους, προς τους κατοικούντας εν τοις απωτάτοις μέρεσι· και θέλω επιφέρει τον όλεθρον αυτών εκ πάντων των περάτων αυτών, λέγει Κύριος. 33Και η Ασώρ θέλει είσθαι κατοικία θώων, έρημος εις τον αιώνα· δεν θέλει κατοικεί εκεί άνθρωπος και δεν θέλει παροικεί εν αυτή υιός ανθρώπου. 34Ο λόγος του Κυρίου, ο γενόμενος προς Ιερεμίαν τον προφήτην, κατά της Ελάμ εν τη αρχή της βασιλείας του Σεδεκίου βασιλέως του Ιούδα, λέγων, 35Ούτω λέγει ο Κύριος των δυνάμεων· Ιδού, θέλω συντρίψει το τόξον της Ελάμ, την αρχήν της δυνάμεως αυτών. 36Και θέλω φέρει επί την Ελάμ τους τέσσαρας ανέμους εκ των τεσσάρων άκρων του ουρανού, και θέλω διασκορπίσει αυτούς εις πάντας τούτους τους ανέμους· και δεν θέλει είσθαι έθνος, όπου οι δεδιωγμένοι της Ελάμ δεν θέλουσιν ελθεί. 37Διότι θέλω κατατρομάξει την Ελάμ έμπροσθεν των εχθρών αυτών και έμπροσθεν των ζητούντων την ψυχήν αυτών· και θέλω επιφέρει κακόν επ' αυτούς, τον θυμόν της οργής μου, λέγει Κύριος· και θέλω αποστείλει την μάχαιραν οπίσω αυτών, εωσού αναλώσω αυτούς. 38Και θέλω στήσει τον θρόνον μου εν Ελάμ, και θέλω εξολοθρεύσει εκείθεν βασιλέα και μεγιστάνας, λέγει Κύριος. 39Πλην εν ταις εσχάταις ημέραις θέλω επιστρέψει την αιχμαλωσίαν της Ελάμ, λέγει Κύριος.

Thus says Yahweh: Has Israel no sons? has he no heir? why then does Malcam possess Gad, and his people well in its cities? 2Therefore behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard against Rabbah of the children of Ammon; and it shall become a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel possess those who possessed him, says Yahweh. 3Wail, Heshbon, for Ai is laid waste; cry, you daughters of Rabbah, clothe yourself in sackcloth: lament, and run back and forth among the fences; for Malcam shall go into captivity, his priests and his princes together. 4Why do you glory in the valleys, your flowing valley, backsliding daughter? who trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come to me? 5Behold, I will bring a fear on you, says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, from all who are around you; and you shall be driven out every man right out, and there shall be no one to gather together the fugitives. 6But afterward I will bring back the captivity of the children of Ammon, says Yahweh. 7Of Edom. Thus says Yahweh of Armies: Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished? 8Flee, turn back, dwell in the depths, inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau on him, the time that I shall visit him. 9If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, wouldn’t they destroy until they had enough? 10But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is destroyed, and his brothers, and his neighbors; and he is no more. 11Leave your fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let your widows trust in me. 12For thus says Yahweh: Behold, they to whom it didn’t pertain to drink of the cup shall certainly drink; and are you he who shall altogether go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you shall surely drink. 13For I have sworn by myself, says Yahweh, that Bozrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all its cities shall be perpetual wastes. 14I have heard news from Yahweh, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, Gather yourselves together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle. 15For, behold, I have made you small among the nations, and despised among men. 16As for your terror, the pride of your heart has deceived you, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill: though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there, says Yahweh. 17Edom shall become an astonishment: everyone who passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all its plagues. 18As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbor cities of it, says Yahweh, no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man live therein. 19Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoever is chosen, him will I appoint over it: for who is like me? and who will appoint me a time? and who is the shepherd who will stand before me? 20Therefore hear the counsel of Yahweh, that he has taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they shall drag them away, the little ones of the flock; surely he shall make their habitation desolate over them. 21The earth trembles at the noise of their fall; there is a cry, the noise which is heard in the Red Sea. 22Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread out his wings against Bozrah: and the heart of the mighty men of Edom at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs. 23Of Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad; for they have heard evil news, they are melted away: there is sorrow on the sea; it can’t be quiet. 24Damascus has grown feeble, she turns herself to flee, and trembling has seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her, as of a woman in travail. 25How is the city of praise not forsaken, the city of my joy? 26Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be brought to silence in that day, says Yahweh of Armies. 27I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben Hadad. 28Of Kedar, and of the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck. Thus says Yahweh: Arise, go up to Kedar, and destroy the children of the east. 29Their tents and their flocks shall they take; they shall carry away for themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry to them, Terror on every side! 30Flee, wander far off, dwell in the depths, you inhabitants of Hazor, says Yahweh; for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has taken counsel against you, and has conceived a purpose against you. 31Arise, go up to a nation that is at ease, that dwells without care, says Yahweh; that have neither gates nor bars, that dwell alone. 32Their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their livestock a plunder: and I will scatter to all winds those who have the corners of their beards cut off; and I will bring their calamity from every side of them, says Yahweh. 33Hazor shall be a dwelling place of jackals, a desolation forever: no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man live therein. 34Yahweh’s word that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, 35Thus says Yahweh of Armies: Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might. 36On Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of the sky, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation where the outcasts of Elam shall not come. 37I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before those who seek their life; and I will bring evil on them, even my fierce anger, says Yahweh; and I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them; 38and I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from there king and princes, says Yahweh. 39But it shall happen in the latter days, that I will bring back the captivity of Elam, says Yahweh.

Gij zult niet onschuldig worden gehouden, maar gij zult ganselijk drinken. 13Want Ik heb bij Mijzelven gezworen, spreekt de HEERE, dat Bozra worden zal tot een ontzetting, tot een smaadheid, tot een woestheid, en tot een vloek; en al haar steden zullen worden tot eeuwige woestheden. 14Ik heb een gerucht gehoord van den HEERE, en er is een gezant geschikt onder de heidenen, om te zeggen: Vergadert u, en komt aan tegen haar, en maakt u op ten strijde. 15Want zie, Ik heb u klein gemaakt onder de heidenen, veracht onder de mensen. 16Uw schrikkelijkheid heeft u bedrogen, en de trotsheid uws harten, gij, die woont in de kloven der steenrotsen, die u houdt op de hoogte der heuvelen! Al zoudt gij uw nest zo hoog maken als de arend, zo zal Ik u van daar nederstoten, spreekt de HEERE. 17Alzo zal Edom worden tot een ontzetting; al wie voorbij haar gaat, zal zich ontzetten, en fluiten over al haar plagen. 18Gelijk de omkering van Sodom en Gomorra en haar naburen, zal het zijn, zegt de HEERE; niemand zal daar wonen, en geen mensenkind daarin verkeren. 19Ziet, gelijk een leeuw van de verheffing der Jordaan, zal hij opkomen tegen de sterke woning; want Ik zal hem in een ogenblik daaruit doen lopen; en wie daartoe verkoren is, dien zal Ik tegen haar bestellen; want wie is Mij gelijk, en wie zou Mij dagvaarden, en wie is die herder, die voor Mijn aangezicht bestaan zou? 20Daarom hoort des HEEREN raadslag, dien Hij over Edom heeft beraadslaagd, en Zijn gedachten, die Hij gedacht heeft over de inwoners van Theman: Zo de geringsten van de kudde hen niet zullen nedertrekken! Indien hij hunlieder woning niet boven hen zal verwoesten! 21De aarde heeft gebeefd van het geluid huns vals, van het gekrijt, welks geluid gehoord is bij de Schelfzee. 22Ziet, hij zal opkomen en snel vliegen, als een arend, en zijn vleugelen over Bozra uitbreiden; en het hart van Edoms helden zal te dien dage wezen, als het hart ener vrouw, die in nood is. 23Tegen Damaskus. Beschaamd is Hamath en Arpad; omdat zij een boos gerucht gehoord hebben, zijn zij gesmolten; bij de zee is bekommernis, men kan er niet rusten. 24Damaskus is slap geworden, zij heeft zich gewend, om te vluchten, en siddering heeft haar aangegrepen; benauwdheid en smarten als van een barende vrouw hebben haar bevangen; 25Hoe is de beroemde stad niet gelaten, de stad Mijner vrolijkheid! 26Daarom zullen haar jongelingen vallen op haar straten; en al haar krijgslieden zullen te dien dage nedergehouwen worden, spreekt de HEERE der heirscharen. 27En Ik zal een vuur aansteken in den muur van Damaskus, en het zal Benhadads paleizen verteren. 28Tegen Kedar, en tegen de koninkrijken van Hazor, die Nebukadrezar, de koning van Babel, sloeg, zegt de HEERE alzo: Maakt u op, trekt op tegen Kedar, en verstoort de kinderen van het oosten. 29Zij zullen hun tenten en hun kudden nemen, hun gordijnen en al hun gereedschap, en hun kemelen voor zich wegnemen; en zij zullen tegen hen uitroepen: Schrik van rondom! 30Vliedt, zwerft fluks henen weg, woont in diepe plaatsen, gij inwoners van Hazor! spreekt de HEERE; want Nebukadrezar, de koning van Babel, heeft een raadslag tegen ulieden beraadslaagd, en een gedachte tegen hen gedacht. 31Maakt u op, trekt op tegen het volk, dat rust heeft, dat in zekerheid woont, spreekt de HEERE; dat geen deuren noch grendel heeft, die alleen wonen. 32En hun kemelen zullen ten roof zijn, en de menigte van hun vee zal ten buit zijn; en Ik zal hen verstrooien in alle winden, te weten degenen, die aan de hoeken afgekort zijn; en Ik zal hunlieder verderf van al zijn zijden aanbrengen, spreekt de HEERE. 33En Hazor zal worden tot een drakenwoning, een verwoesting tot in eeuwigheid; niemand zal daar wonen, en geen mensenkind daarin verkeren. 34Het woord des HEEREN, dat tot den profeet Jeremia geschied is tegen Elam, in het begin des koninkrijks van Zedekia, den koning van Juda, zeggende: 35Zo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen: Ziet, Ik zal verbreken Elams boog, het voornaamste van hunlieder geweld. 36En Ik zal de vier winden uit de vier hoeken des hemels over Elam aanbrengen, en zal hen in al diezelve winden verstrooien; en er zal geen volk zijn, waarhenen Elams verdrevenen niet zullen komen. 37En Ik zal Elam versaagd maken voor het aangezicht hunner vijanden, en voor het aangezicht dergenen, die hun ziel zoeken, en zal een kwaad over hen brengen, de hittigheid Mijns toorns, spreekt de HEERE; en Ik zal het zwaard achter hen zenden, totdat Ik hen verteerd zal hebben. 38En Ik zal Mijn troon in Elam stellen; en zal den koning en de vorsten van daar vernielen, spreekt de HEERE; 39Maar het zal geschieden in het laatste der dagen, dat Ik Elams gevangenis wenden zal, spreekt de HEERE.
