1Ο λόγος του Κυρίου ο γενόμενος προς Ιερεμίαν περί της ανομβρίας. 2Ο Ιούδας πενθεί και αι πύλαι αυτού είναι περίλυποι· κοίτονται κατά γης μελανειμονούσαι· και ανέβη η κραυγή της Ιερουσαλήμ. 3Και οι μεγιστάνες αυτής απέστειλαν τους νέους αυτών διά ύδωρ· ήλθον εις τα φρέατα, δεν εύρηκαν ύδωρ· επέστρεψαν με τα αγγεία αυτών κενά· ησχύνθησαν και ενετράπησαν και εσκέπασαν τας κεφαλάς αυτών. 4Επειδή η γη εσχίσθη, διότι δεν ήτο βροχή επί της γης, οι γεωργοί ησχύνθησαν, εσκέπασαν τας κεφαλάς αυτών. 5Και η έλαφος έτι, γεννήσασα εν τη πεδιάδι, εγκατέλιπε το τέκνον αυτής, επειδή χόρτος δεν ήτο. 6Και οι άγριοι όνοι εστάθησαν επί τους υψηλούς τόπους, ερρόφουν τον αέρα ως θώες· οι οφθαλμοί αυτών εμαράνθησαν, επειδή χόρτος δεν ήτο. 7Κύριε, αν και αι ανομίαι ημών καταμαρτυρώσιν εναντίον ημών, κάμε όμως διά το όνομά σου· διότι αι αποστασίαι ημών επληθύνθησαν· εις σε ημαρτήσαμεν. 8Ελπίς του Ισραήλ, σωτήρ αυτού εν καιρώ θλίψεως, διά τι ήθελες είσθαι ως πάροικος εν τη γη και ως οδοιπόρος εκκλίνων εις κατάλυμα; 9Διά τι ήθελες είσθαι ως άνθρωπος εκστατικός, ως ισχυρός μη δυνάμενος να σώση; Αλλά συ, Κύριε, εν μέσω ημών είσαι, και το όνομά σου εκλήθη εφ' ημάς· μη εγκαταλίπης ημάς. 10Ούτω λέγει Κύριος προς τον λαόν τούτον· Επειδή ηγάπησαν να πλανώνται και δεν εκράτησαν τους πόδας αυτών, διά τούτο ο Κύριος δεν ηυδόκησεν εις αυτούς· τώρα θέλει ενθυμηθή την ανομίαν αυτών και επισκεφθή τας αμαρτίας αυτών. 11Και είπε Κύριος προς εμέ, Μη προσεύχου υπέρ του λαού τούτου διά καλόν. 12Και εάν νηστεύσωσι, δεν θέλω εισακούσει της κραυγής αυτών· και εάν προσφέρωσιν ολοκαυτώματα και προσφοράν, δεν θέλω ευδοκήσει εις αυτά· αλλά θέλω καταναλώσει αυτούς εν μαχαίρα και εν πείνη και εν λοιμώ. 13Και είπα, Ω, Κύριε Θεέ, ιδού, οι προφήται λέγουσι προς αυτούς, δεν θέλετε ιδεί μάχαιραν ουδέ θέλει είσθαι πείνα εις εσάς, αλλά θέλω σας δώσει ειρήνην ασφαλή εν τω τόπω τούτω. 14Και είπε Κύριος προς εμέ, Ψευδή προφητεύουσιν οι προφήται εν τω ονόματί μου· εγώ δεν απέστειλα αυτούς ουδέ προσέταξα εις αυτούς ουδέ ελάλησα προς αυτούς· αυτοί προφητεύουσιν εις εσάς όρασιν ψευδή και μαντείαν και ματαιότητα και την δολιότητα της καρδίας αυτών. 15Διά τούτο ούτω λέγει Κύριος περί των προφητών των προφητευόντων εν τω ονόματί μου, ενώ εγώ δεν απέστειλα, αυτούς αλλ' αυτοί λέγουσι, Μάχαιρα και πείνα δεν θέλει είσθαι εν τω τόπω τούτω· εν μαχαίρα και εν πείνη θέλουσι συντελεσθή οι προφήται εκείνοι. 16Ο δε λαός, εις τους οποίους αυτοί προφητεύουσι, θέλουσιν είσθαι ερριμμένοι εν ταις οδοίς της Ιερουσαλήμ υπό πείνης και μαχαίρας· και δεν θέλει είσθαι ο θάπτων αυτούς, τας γυναίκας αυτών και τους υιούς αυτών και τας θυγατέρας αυτών· και θέλω εκχέει επ' αυτούς την κακίαν αυτών. 17Διά τούτο θέλεις ειπεί προς αυτούς τον λόγον τούτον· Ας χύσωσιν οι οφθαλμοί μου δάκρυα, νύκτα και ημέραν, και ας μη παύσωσι· διότι η παρθένος, η θυγάτηρ του λαού μου, συνετρίφθη σύντριμμα μέγα, πληγήν οδυνηράν σφόδρα. 18Εάν εξέλθω εις την πεδιάδα, τότε ιδού, οι πεφονευμένοι εν μαχαίρα· και εάν εισέλθω εις την πόλιν, τότε ιδού, οι νενεκρωμένοι υπό της πείνης, ο δε προφήτης έτι και ο ιερεύς εμπορεύονται επί της γης και δεν αισθάνονται. 19Απέρριψας παντάπασι τον Ιούδαν; απεστράφη την Σιών η ψυχή σου; Διά τι επάταξας ημάς, και δεν υπάρχει θεραπεία εις ημάς; επροσμένομεν ειρήνην, αλλ' ουδέν αγαθόν· και τον καιρόν της θεραπείας, και ιδού, ταραχή. 20Γνωρίζομεν, Κύριε, την ασέβειαν ημών, την ανομίαν των πατέρων ημών, ότι ημαρτήσαμεν εις σε. 21Μη αποστραφής ημάς, διά το όνομά σου· μη ατιμάσης τον θρόνον της δόξης σου· ενθυμήθητι, μη διασκεδάσης την διαθήκην σου την προς ημάς. 22Υπάρχει μεταξύ των ματαιοτήτων των εθνών διδούς βροχήν; ή οι ουρανοί δίδουσιν υετούς; δεν είσαι συ αυτός ο δοτήρ, Κύριε Θεέ ημών; διά τούτο θέλομεν σε προσμένει· διότι συ έκαμες πάντα ταύτα.
1Yahweh’s word that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought. 2Judah mourns, and its gates languish, they sit in black on the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up. 3Their nobles send their little ones to the waters: they come to the cisterns, and find no water; they return with their vessels empty; they are disappointed and confounded, and cover their heads. 4Because of the ground which is cracked, because no rain has been in the land, the plowmen are disappointed, they cover their heads. 5Yes, the hind also in the field calves, and forsakes her young, because there is no grass. 6The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights, they pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail, because there is no herbage. 7Though our iniquities testify against us, work for your name’s sake, Yahweh; for our rebellions are many; we have sinned against you. 8You hope of Israel, its Savior in the time of trouble, why should you be as a foreigner in the land, and as a wayfaring man who turns aside to stay for a night? 9Why should you be like a scared man, as a mighty man who can’t save? Yet you, Yahweh, are in the midst of us, and we are called by your name; don’t leave us. 10Thus says Yahweh to this people, Even so have they loved to wander; they have not refrained their feet: therefore Yahweh does not accept them; now he will remember their iniquity, and visit their sins. 11Yahweh said to me, Don’t pray for this people for their good. 12When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence. 13Then I said, Ah, Lord Yahweh! behold, the prophets tell them, You shall not see the sword, neither shall you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place. 14Then Yahweh said to me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name; I didn’t send them, neither have I commanded them, neither spoke I to them: they prophesy to you a lying vision, and divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their own heart. 15Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name, and I didn’t send them, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land: By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed. 16The people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have no one to bury them—them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness on them. 17You shall say this word to them, Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous wound. 18If I go out into the field, then, behold, the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then, behold, those who are sick with famine! for both the prophet and the priest go about in the land, and have no knowledge. 19Have you utterly rejected Judah? has your soul loathed Zion? why have you struck us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold, dismay! 20We acknowledge, Yahweh, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against you. 21Do not abhor us, for your name’s sake; do not disgrace the throne of your glory: remember, don’t break your covenant with us. 22Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? or can the sky give showers? Aren’t you he, Yahweh our God? therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.

Gij zijt toch in het midden van ons, o HEERE! en wij zijn naar Uw Naam genoemd, verlaat ons niet. 10Alzo zegt de HEERE van dit volk: Zij hebben zo liefgehad te zwerven, zij hebben hun voeten niet bedwongen; daarom heeft de HEERE geen welgevallen aan hen, nu zal Hij hunner ongerechtigheden gedenken, en hun zonden bezoeken. 11Wijders zeide de HEERE tot mij: Bid niet voor dit volk ten goede. 12Ofschoon zij vasten, Ik zal naar hun geschrei niet horen, en ofschoon zij brandoffer en spijsoffer offeren, Ik zal aan hen geen welgevallen hebben; maar door het zwaard, en door den honger, en door de pestilentie zal Ik hen verteren. 13Toen zeide ik: Ach, Heere HEERE! zie, die profeten zeggen hun: Gij zult geen zwaard zien, en gij zult geen honger hebben; maar Ik zal u een gewissen vrede geven in deze plaats. 14En de HEERE zeide tot mij: Die profeten profeteren vals in Mijn Naam; Ik heb hen niet gezonden, noch hun bevel gegeven, noch tot hen gesproken; zij profeteren ulieden een vals gezicht, en waarzegging, en nietigheid, en bedriegerij huns harten. 15Daarom zegt de HEERE alzo: Aangaande de profeten, die in Mijn Naam profeteren, daar Ik hen niet gezonden heb, en zij dan nog zeggen: Er zal geen zwaard noch honger in dit land zijn; diezelve profeten zullen door het zwaard en door den honger verteerd worden. 16En het volk, tot hetwelk zij profeteren, zullen op de straten van Jeruzalem weggeworpen zijn vanwege den honger en het zwaard; en er zal niemand zijn, die hen begrave, hen, hun vrouwen, en hun zonen, en hun dochteren; alzo zal Ik hun boosheid over hen uitstorten. 17Daarom zult gij dit woord tot hen zeggen: Mijn ogen zullen van tranen nederdalen nacht en dag, en niet ophouden; want de jonkvrouw der dochter Mijns volks is gebroken met een grote breuk, een plage, die zeer smartelijk is. 18Zo ik uitga in het veld, ziet daar de verslagenen van het zwaard, en zo ik in de stad komen, ziet daar de kranken van honger! Ja, zowel de profeten als de priesters lopen om in het land, en weten niet. 19Hebt Gij dan Juda ganselijk verworpen? Heeft Uw ziel een walging aan Sion? Waarom hebt Gij ons geslagen, dat er geen genezing voor ons is? Men wacht naar vrede, maar daar is niets goeds, en naar tijd van genezing, maar ziet, daar is verschrikking. 20HEERE! wij kennen onze goddeloosheid, en onzer vaderen ongerechtigheid, want wij hebben tegen U gezondigd. 21Versmaad ons niet, om Uws Naams wil; werp den troon Uwer heerlijkheid niet neder; gedenk, vernietig niet Uw verbond met ons. 22Zijn er onder de ijdelheden der heidenen, die doen regenen, of kan de hemel druppelen geven? Zijt Gij die niet, o HEERE, onze God? Daarom zullen wij op U wachten, want Gij doet al die dingen.
