1Thầy các thượng phẩm bèn hỏi Ê-tiên rằng: Có phải thật như vậy chăng? 2Ê-tiên trả lời rằng: Hỡi các anh, các cha, xin nghe lời tôi! Ðức Chúa Trời vinh hiển đã hiện ra cùng tổ chúng ta là Áp-ra-ham, khi người còn ở tại Mê-sô-bô-ta-mi, chưa đến ở tại Cha-ran, 3mà phán rằng: Hãy ra khỏi quê hương và bà con ngươi, mà đi đến xứ ta sẽ chỉ cho. 4Bấy giờ người ra khỏi xứ Canh-đê, rồi đến thành Cha-ran. Từ đó, lúc cha người qua đời rồi, Ðức Chúa Trời khiến người từ nơi đó qua xứ các ông hiện đương ở; 5Ngài chẳng ban cho người sản nghiệp gì trong xứ nầy, dầu một thẻo đất lọt bàn chơn cũng không, nhưng Ngài hứa ban xứ nầy làm kỉ vật cho người và dòng dõi người nữa, dẫu bấy giờ người chưa có con cái mặc lòng. 6Ðức Chúa Trời phán như vầy: Dòng dõi ngươi sẽ ở ngụ nơi đất khách, người ta sẽ bắt chúng nó làm tôi và hà hiếp trong bốn trăm năm. 7Ðức Chúa Trời lại phán rằng: Nhưng ta sẽ đoán xét dân đã bắt chúng nó làm tôi, kế đó, chúng nó sẽ ra khỏi, và thờ phượng ta trong nơi nầy. 8Ðoạn, Ðức Chúa Trời ban cho người sự giao ước về phép cắt bì. Ấy vậy, khi Áp-ra-ham đã sanh một con trai là Y-sác, thì làm phép cắt bì cho, trong ngày thứ tám; Y-sác làm phép cắt bì cho Gia-cốp, và Gia-cốp làm phép ấy cho mười hai tổ phụ. 9Mười hai tổ phụ ghen ghét Giô-sép, nên bán qua xứ Ê-díp-tô; nhưng Ðức Chúa Trời ở cùng người. 10Ngài giải cứu người khỏi cảnh khó khăn, và cho đầy ơn và trí trước mặt Pha-ra-ôn, vua Ê-díp-tô, vua ấy lập người làm tể tướng cai quản xứ Ê-díp-tô và cả nhà vua nữa. 11Bấy giờ, xảy có cơn đói kém trong cả xứ Ê-díp-tô và xứ Ca-na-an; sự túng ngặt lớn lắm, tổ phụ chúng ta chẳng tìm được đồ ăn. 12Gia-cốp nghe bên Ê-díp-tô có lúa mì, thì sai tổ phụ ta qua đó lần thứ nhứt. 13Ðến lần thứ hai, anh em Giô-sép nhận biết người, và Pha-ra-ôn mới biết dòng họ người. 14Giô-sép bèn sai rước Gia-cốp là cha mình và cả nhà, cộng là bảy mươi lăm người. 15Vậy, Gia-cốp xuống xứ Ê-díp-tô, rồi chết tại đó, và tổ phụ chúng ta cũng vậy; 16sau được đem về Si-chem, chôn nơi mộ mà Áp-ra-ham đã lấy bạc mua của con cháu Hê-mô quê ở Si-chem. 17Nhưng, gần đến kỳ phải ứng nghiệm lời hứa Ðức Chúa Trời đã thề với Áp-ra-ham, đến cư sanh sản và thêm nhiều lên trong xứ Ê-díp-tô, 18cho đến khi trong xứ đó có một vua khác dấy lên, chẳng nhìn biết Giô-sép. 19Vua nầy dùng mưu hại dòng giống và hà hiếp tổ phụ chúng ta, ép phải bỏ con mới sanh, hầu cho sống chẳng được. 20Trong lúc đó, Môi-se sanh ra; người xinh tốt khác thường, được nuôi trong ba tháng tại nhà cha mình. 21Khi người bị bỏ, thì con gái Pha-ra-ôn vớt lấy, nuôi làm con mình. 22Môi-se được học cả sự khôn ngoan của người Ê-díp-tô; lời nói và việc làm đều có tài năng. 23Nhưng lúc người được đầy bốn mươi tuổi rồi, trong lòng nhớ đến, muốn đi thăm anh em mình là con cái Y-sơ-ra-ên. 24Môi-se thấy có người hà hiếp một người trong đám họ, nên binh vực kẻ bị hà hiếp và đánh người Ê-díp-tô để báo thù cho. 25Người ngờ anh em mình chắc hiểu rằng Ðức Chúa Trời dùng tay mình giải cứu họ; nhưng họ chẳng hiểu. 26Ðến ngày sau, chúng đang đánh lộn với nhau, thì người đến gần mà giải hòa, rằng: Hỡi các ngươi, đã là anh em, sao lại làm hại nhau vậy? 27Kẻ đang ức hiếp người lân cận mình xô Môi se ra, mà rằng: Ai đã lập ngươi lên làm quan cai trị và quan xử đoán chúng ta? 28Há ngươi muốn giết ta như hôm qua đã giết người Ê-díp-tô sao? 29Môi-se vừa nghe lời đó thì trốn đi ở trong xứ Ma-đi-an, nơi đó người sanh được hai con trai. 30Cách bốn mươi năm, một thiên sứ hiện ra cùng người, tại đồng vắng núi Si-na -i, trong ngọn lửa nơi bụi gai đương cháy. 31Môi-se thấy vậy, lấy làm lạ về sự hiện ra đó, đang áp lại để xem cho gần hơn, thì nghe tiếng Chúa phán rằng: 32Ta là Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ ngươi, Ðức Chúa Trời của Áp-ra-ham, của Y-sác và của Gia-cốp. Môi-se run sợ, chẳng dám nhìn xem. 33Chúa bèn phán rằng: Hãy cổi giày ở chơn ngươi ra; vì chỗ mà ngươi đứng đó là một nơi đất thánh. 34Ta đã đoái xem và thấy cảnh khó khăn của dân ta trong xứ Ê-díp-tô, ta đã nghe tiếng than thở của chúng nó, và xuống đặng giải cứu. Bây giờ hãy đến, đặng ta sai ngươi qua xứ Ê-díp-tô. 35Môi-se nầy là người họ đã bỏ ra, và rằng: Ai đã lập ngươi lên làm quan cai trị và quan đoán xét chúng ta? Ấy là người mà Ðức Chúa Trời đã sai làm quan cai trị và đấng giải cứu cậy tay một thiên sứ đã hiện ra với người trong bụi gai. 36Ấy là người đã đem họ ra khỏi, làm những dấu kỳ phép lạ trong xứ Ê-díp-tô, trên Biển-đỏ, và nơi đồng vắng trong bốn mươi năm. 37Ấy là Môi-se nầy đã nói cùng con cái Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Ðức Chúa Trời sẽ dấy lên trong hàng anh em các ngươi một đấng tiên tri giống như ta. 38Ấy là người, trong dân hội tại nơi đồng vắng, đã ở với thiên sứ, là đấng phán cùng người trên núi Si-na -i, và với tổ phụ chúng ta, người lại nhận lấy những lời sự ống đặng trao lại cho các ngươi. 39Ấy là người là tổ phụ chúng ta không chịu vâng lời, đã bỏ người đặng nghiêng lòng về xứ Ê-díp-tô, 40và nói với A-rôn rằng: Hãy làm các thần đi trước chúng ta; vì về phần Môi-se nầy, là người đã dẫn chúng ta ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô, chẳng biết có điều chi xảy đến cho người rồi. 41Trong những ngày đó, họ đúc một tượng bò con, dâng tế lễ cho tượng và vui mừng về việc tay mình làm nên. 42Ðức Chúa Trời bèn lìa bỏ họ, phú họ thờ lạy cơ binh trên trời, như có chép trong sách các đấng tiên tri rằng: Hỡi nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên, vậy có phải các ngươi từng dâng con sinh và của lễ cho ta, Trong bốn mươi năm ở nơi đồng vắng, 43Khi các ngươi khiêng nhà trại của Mo-lóc Và ngôi sao của thần Pom-phan, Tức là những hình tượng mà các ngươi làm ra để thờ lạy chăng? Ta cũng sẽ đày các ngươi qua bên kia Ba-by-lôn. 44Ðền tạm chứng cớ vốn ở giữa tổ phụ chúng ta trong đồng vắng, như Chúa đã truyền lịnh cho Môi-se phải là y theo kiểu mẫu người đã thấy. 45Tổ phụ chúng ta đã nhận lấy đền tạm ấy, rồi đồng đi với Giô-suê đem vào xứ họ đã chiếm lấy của các dân mà Ðức Chúa Trời đã đuổi khỏi trước mặt họ; đền tạm cứ ở đó cho đến đời vua Ða-vít, 46là người được ơn trước mặt Ðức Chúa Trời, và xin ban một chỗ ở cho Ðức Chúa Trời của Gia-cốp. 47Kế đó, vua Sa-lô-môn cất cho Chúa một cái nhà. 48Nhưng Ðấng Rất Cao chẳng ở trong nhà bởi tay người ta làm ra, như đấng tiên tri đã nói: 49Chúa phán: Trời là ngai ta, Ðất là bệ chơn ta. Nào có nhà nào các ngươi cất cho ta, Có nơi nào cho ta yên nghỉ chăng? 50Há chẳng phải tay ta đã dựng nên mọi vật nầy chăng? 51Hỡi những người cứng cổ, lòng và tai chẳng cắt bì kia! Các ngươi cứ nghịch với Ðức Thánh Linh hoài; tổ-phụ các ngươi thế nào, thì các ngươi cũng thế ấy! 52Há có đấng tiên tri nào mà tổ phụ các ngươi chẳng bắt bớ ư? Họ cũng đã giết những người nói tiên tri về sự đến của Ðấng Công bình; và hiện bây giờ chính các ngươi lại đã nộp và giết Ðấng đó; 53các ngươi đã nhận luật pháp truyền bởi các thiên sứ, nhưng không giữ lấy! 54Chúng nghe những lời đó, thì giận trong lòng, và nghiến răng với Ê-tiên. 55Nhưng người, được đầy dẫy Ðức Thánh Linh, mắt ngó chăm lên trời, thấy sự vinh hiển của Ðức Chúa Trời, và Ðức Chúa Jêsus đứng bên hữu Ðức Chúa Trời; 56thì người nói rằng: Kìa, ta thấy các từng trời mở ra, và Con người đứng bên hữu Ðức Chúa Trời. 57Bấy giờ, chúng kêu lớn tiếng lên, bịt lỗ tai lại, cùng nhau chạy a lại, 58kéo người ra ngoài thành, rồi ném đá người. Các kẻ làm chứng lấy áo xống mình để nơi chơn một người trẻ tuổi kia tên là Sau-lơ. 59Chúng đang ném đá, thì Ê-tiên cầu nguyện rằng: Lạy Ðức Chúa Jêsus, xin tiếp lấy linh hồn tôi. 60Ðoạn, người quì xuống, kêu lớn tiếng rằng: Lạy Chúa, xin đừng đổ tội nầy cho họ! Người vừa nói lời đó rồi thì ngủ.
1The high priest said, “Are these things so?” 2He said, “Brothers and fathers, listen. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran, 3and said to him, ‘Get out of your land, and from your relatives, and come into a land which I will show you.’ 4Then he came out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and lived in Haran. From there, when his father was dead, God moved him into this land, where you are now living. 5He gave him no inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on. He promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when he still had no child. 6God spoke in this way: that his seed would live as aliens in a strange land, and that they would be enslaved and mistreated for four hundred years. 7‘I will judge the nation to which they will be in bondage,’ said God, ‘and after that will they come out, and serve me in this place.’ 8He gave him the covenant of circumcision. So Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day. Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs. 9“The patriarchs, moved with jealousy against Joseph, sold him into Egypt. God was with him, 10and delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. He made him governor over Egypt and all his house. 11Now a famine came over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction. Our fathers found no food. 12But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent out our fathers the first time. 13On the second time Joseph was made known to his brothers, and Joseph’s race was revealed to Pharaoh. 14Joseph sent, and summoned Jacob, his father, and all his relatives, seventy-five souls. 15Jacob went down into Egypt, and he died, himself and our fathers, 16and they were brought back to Shechem, and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a price in silver from the children of Hamor of Shechem. 17“But as the time of the promise came close which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt, 18until there arose a different king, who didn’t know Joseph. 19The same took advantage of our race, and mistreated our fathers, and forced them to throw out their babies, so that they wouldn’t stay alive. 20At that time Moses was born, and was exceedingly handsome. He was nourished three months in his father’s house. 21When he was thrown out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up, and reared him as her own son. 22Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians. He was mighty in his words and works. 23But when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brothers, the children of Israel. 24Seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him who was oppressed, striking the Egyptian. 25He supposed that his brothers understood that God, by his hand, was giving them deliverance; but they didn’t understand. 26“The day following, he appeared to them as they fought, and urged them to be at peace again, saying, ‘Sirs, you are brothers. Why do you wrong one another?’ 27But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us? 28Do you want to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’ 29Moses fled at this saying, and became a stranger in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons. 30“When forty years were fulfilled, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush. 31When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight. As he came close to see, a voice of the Lord came to him, 32‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ Moses trembled, and dared not look. 33The Lord said to him, ‘Take your sandals off of your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground. 34I have surely seen the affliction of my people that is in Egypt, and have heard their groaning. I have come down to deliver them. Now come, I will send you into Egypt.’ 35“This Moses, whom they refused, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’—God has sent him as both a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush. 36This man led them out, having worked wonders and signs in Egypt, in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years. 37This is that Moses, who said to the children of Israel, ‘The Lord our God will raise up a prophet for you from among your brothers, like me.’ 38This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness with the angel that spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, who received living oracles to give to us, 39to whom our fathers wouldn’t be obedient, but rejected him, and turned back in their hearts to Egypt, 40saying to Aaron, ‘Make us gods that will go before us, for as for this Moses, who led us out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.’ 41They made a calf in those days, and brought a sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their hands. 42But God turned, and gave them up to serve the army of the sky, as it is written in the book of the prophets, ‘Did you offer to me slain animals and sacrifices forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel? 43You took up the tabernacle of Moloch, the star of your god Rephan, the figures which you made to worship. I will carry you away beyond Babylon.’ 44“Our fathers had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, even as he who spoke to Moses commanded him to make it according to the pattern that he had seen; 45which also our fathers, in their turn, brought in with Joshua when they entered into the possession of the nations, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers, to the days of David, 46who found favor in the sight of God, and asked to find a habitation for the God of Jacob. 47But Solomon built him a house. 48However, the Most High doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says, 49‘heaven is my throne, and the earth a footstool for my feet. What kind of house will you build me?’ says the Lord; ‘or what is the place of my rest? 50Didn’t my hand make all these things?’ 51“You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so you do. 52Which of the prophets didn’t your fathers persecute? They killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers. 53You received the law as it was ordained by angels, and didn’t keep it!” 54Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth. 55But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, 56and said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” 57But they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and rushed at him with one accord. 58They threw him out of the city, and stoned him. The witnesses placed their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. 59They stoned Stephen as he called out, saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!” 60He kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, “Lord, don’t hold this sin against them!” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

En van daar, nadat zijn vader gestorven was, bracht Hij hem over in dit land, daar gij nu in woont. 5En Hij gaf hem geen erfdeel in hetzelve, ook niet een voetstap; en beloofde, dat Hij hem het zelve tot een bezitting geven zou, en zijn zade na hem, als hij nog geen kind had. 6En God sprak alzo, dat zijn zaad vreemdeling zijn zoude in een vreemd land, en dat zij het zouden dienstbaar maken, en kwalijk handelen, vierhonderd jaren. 7En het volk, dat zij dienen zullen, zal Ik oordelen, sprak God; en daarna zullen zij uitgaan, en zij zullen Mij dienen in deze plaats. 8En Hij gaf hem het verbond der besnijdenis; en alzo gewon hij Izak, en besneed hem op den achtsten dag; en Izak gewon Jakob, en Jakob de twaalf patriarchen. 9En de patriarchen, nijdig zijnde, verkochten Jozef, om naar Egypte gebracht te worden; en God was met hem, 10En verloste hem uit al zijn verdrukkingen, en gaf hem genade en wijsheid voor Farao, den koning van Egypteland; en hij stelde hem tot een overste over Egypte, en zijn gehele huis. 11En er kwam een hongersnood over het gehele land van Egypte en Kanaan, en grote benauwdheid; en onze vaders vonden geen spijs. 12Maar als Jakob hoorde, dat in Egypte koren was, zond hij onze vaders de eerste maal uit. 13En in de tweede reize werd Jozef zijn broederen bekend; en het geslacht van Jozef werd aan Farao openbaar. 14En Jozef zond heen, en ontbood zijn vader Jakob, en al zijn geslacht, bestaande in vijf en zeventig zielen. 15En Jakob kwam af in Egypte, en stierf, hijzelf en onze vaders. 16En zij werden overgebracht naar Sichem, en gelegd in het graf, hetwelk Abraham gekocht had voor een som gelds, van de zonen van Emmor, den vader van Sichem. 17Maar als nu de tijd der belofte, die God aan Abraham gezworen had, genaakte, wies het volk en vermenigvuldigde in Egypte; 18Totdat een ander koning opstond, die Jozef niet gekend had. 19Deze gebruikte listigheid tegen ons geslacht, en handelde kwalijk met onze vaderen, zodat zij hun jonge kinderen moesten wegwerpen, opdat zij niet zouden voorttelen. 20In welken tijd Mozes werd geboren, en was uitnemend schoon; welke drie maanden opgevoed werd in het huis zijns vaders. 21En als hij weggeworpen was, nam hem de dochter van Farao op, en voedde hem voor zichzelve op tot een zoon. 22En Mozes werd onderwezen in alle wijsheid der Egyptenaren; en was machtig in woorden en in werken. 23Als hem nu de tijd van veertig jaren vervuld was, kwam hem in zijn hart, zijn broeders, de kinderen Israels, te bezoeken. 24En ziende een, die onrecht leed, beschermde hij hem, en wreekte dengene, dien overlast geschiedde, en versloeg den Egyptenaar. 25En hij meende, dat zijn broeders zouden verstaan, dat God door zijn hand hun verlossing geven zou; maar zij hebben het niet verstaan. 26En den volgenden dag werd hij van hen gezien, daar zij vochten; en hij drong ze tot vrede, zeggende: Mannen, gij zijt broeders; waarom doet gij elkander ongelijk? 27En die zijn naaste ongelijk deed, verstiet hem, zeggende: Wie heeft u tot een overste en rechter over ons gesteld? 28Wilt gij mij ook ombrengen, gelijkerwijs gij gisteren den Egyptenaar omgebracht hebt? 29En Mozes vluchtte op dat woord en werd een vreemdeling in het land Madiam, waar hij twee zonen gewon. 30En als veertig jaren vervuld waren, verscheen hem de Engel des Heeren, in de woestijn van den berg Sinai, in een vlammig vuur van het doornenbos. 31Mozes nu, dat ziende, verwonderde zich over het gezicht; en als hij derwaarts ging, om dat te bezien, zo geschiedde een stem des Heeren tot hem, 32Zeggende: Ik ben de God uwer vaderen, de God Abrahams, en de God Izaks, en de God Jakobs. En Mozes werd zeer bevende, en durfde het niet bezien. 33En de Heere zeide tot hem: Ontbind de schoenen van uw voeten; want de plaats in welke gij staat, is heilig land. 34Ik heb merkelijk gezien de mishandeling Mijns volks, dat in Egypte is, en Ik heb hun zuchten gehoord en ben nedergekomen, om hen daaruit te verlossen; en nu, kom herwaarts, Ik zal u naar Egypte zenden. 35Dezen Mozes, welken zij verloochend hadden, zeggende: Wie heeft u tot een overste en rechter gesteld? dezen, zeg ik, heeft God tot een overste en verlosser gezonden, door de hand des Engels, Die hem verschenen was in het doornenbos. 36Deze heeft hen uitgeleid, doende wonderen en tekenen in het land van Egypte, en in de Rode zee, en in de woestijn, veertig jaren. 37Deze is de Mozes, die tot de kinderen Israels gezegd heeft: De Heere, uw God, zal u een Profeet verwekken uit uw broederen, gelijk mij; Dien zult gij horen. 38Deze is het, die in de vergadering des volks in de woestijn was met den Engel, Die tot hem sprak op den berg Sinai, en met onze vaderen; welke de levende woorden ontving, om ons die te geven. 39Denwelken onze vaders niet wilden gehoorzaam zijn, maar verwierpen hem, en keerden met hun harten weder naar Egypte; 40Zeggende tot Aaron: Maak ons goden, die voor ons heengaan; want wat dezen Mozes aangaat, die ons uit het land van Egypte geleid heeft, wij weten niet, wat hem geschied is. 41En zij maakten een kalf in die dagen, en brachten offerande tot den afgod, en verheugden zich in de werken hunner handen. 42En God keerde Zich, en gaf hen over, dat zij het heir des hemels dienden, gelijk geschreven is in het boek der profeten: Hebt gij ook slachtofferen en offeranden Mij opgeofferd, veertig jaren in de woestijn, gij huis Israels? 43Ja, gij hebt opgenomen den tabernakel van Moloch, en het gesternte van uw god Remfan, de afbeeldingen, die gij gemaakt hebt, om die te aanbidden; en Ik zal u overvoeren op gene zijde van Babylon. 44De tabernakel der getuigenis was onder onze vaderen in de woestijn, gelijk geordineerd had Hij, Die tot Mozes zeide, dat hij denzelven maken zou naar de afbeelding, die hij gezien had; 45Welken ook onze vaders ontvangen hebbende, met Jozua gebracht hebben in het land, dat de heidenen bezaten, die God verdreven heeft van het aangezicht onzer vaderen, tot de dagen van David toe; 46Dewelke voor God genade gevonden heeft, en begeerd heeft te vinden een woonstede voor den God Jakobs. 47En Salomo bouwde Hem een huis. 48Maar de Allerhoogste woont niet in tempelen met handen gemaakt; gelijk de profeet zegt: 49De hemel is Mij een troon, en de aarde een voetbank Mijner voeten. Hoedanig huis zult gij Mij bouwen, zegt de Heere, of welke is de plaats Mijner ruste? 50Heeft niet Mijn hand al deze dingen gemaakt? 51Gij hardnekkigen en onbesnedenen van hart en oren, gij wederstaat altijd den Heiligen Geest; gelijk uw vaders, alzo ook gij. 52Wien van de profeten hebben uw vaders niet vervolgd? En zij hebben gedood degenen, die te voren verkondigd hebben de komst des Rechtvaardigen, van Welken gijlieden nu verraders en moordenaars geworden zijt. 53Gij, die de wet ontvangen hebt door bestellingen der engelen, en hebt ze niet gehouden! 54Als zij nu dit hoorden, berstten hun harten, en zij knersten de tanden tegen hem. 55Maar hij, vol zijnde des Heiligen Geestes, en de ogen houdende naar den hemel, zag de heerlijkheid Gods, en Jezus, staande ter rechter hand Gods. 56En hij zeide: Ziet, ik zie de hemelen geopend, en den Zoon des mensen, staande ter rechter hand Gods. 57Maar zij, roepende met grote stemme, stopten hun oren, en vielen eendrachtelijk op hem aan; 58En wierpen hem ter stad uit, en stenigden hem; en de getuigen legden hun klederen af aan de voeten eens jongelings, genaamd Saulus. 59En zij stenigden Stefanus, aanroepende en zeggende: Heere Jezus, ontvang mijn geest. 60En vallende op de knieen, riep hij met grote stem: Heere, reken hun deze zonde niet toe! En als hij dat gezegd had, ontsliep hij.
