1Vả, trong các loài thú đồng mà Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời đã làm nên, có con rắn là giống quỉ quyệt hơn hết. Rắn nói cùng người nữ rằng: Mà chi! Ðức Chúa Trời há có phán dặn các ngươi không được phép ăn trái các cây trong vườn sao? 2Người nữ đáp rằng: Chúng ta được ăn trái các cây trong vườn, 3song về phần trái của cây mọc giữa vườn, Ðức Chúa Trời có phán rằng: Hai ngươi chẳng nên ăn đến và cũng chẳng nên đá-động đến, e khi hai ngươi phải chết chăng. 4Rắn bèn nói với người nữ rằng: Hai ngươi chẳng chết đâu; 5nhưng Ðức Chúa Trời biết rằng hễ ngày nào hai ngươi ăn trái cây đó, mắt mình mở ra, sẽ như Ðức Chúa Trời, biết điều thiện và điều ác. 6Người nữ thấy trái của cây đó bộ ăn ngon, lại đẹp mắt và quí vì để mở trí khôn, bèn hái ăn, rồi trao cho chồng đứng gần mình, chồng cũng ăn nữa. 7Ðoạn, mắt hai người đều mỡ ra, biết rằng mình lỏa lồ, bèn lấy lá cây vả đóng khố che thân. 8Lối chiều, nghe tiếng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời đi ngang qua vườn, A-đam và vợ ẩn mình giữa bụi cây, để tránh mặt Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời. 9Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời kêu A-đam mà phán hỏi rằng: Ngươi ở đâu? 10A-đam thưa rằng: Tôi có nghe tiếng Chúa trong vườn, bèn sợ, bởi vì tôi lỏa lồ, nên đi ẩn mình. 11Ðức Chúa Trời phán hỏi: Ai đã chỉ cho ngươi biết rằng mình lỏa lồ? Ngươi có ăn trái cây ta đã dặn không nên ăn đó chăng? 12Thưa rằng: Người nữ mà Chúa đã để gần bên tôi cho tôi trái cây đó và tôi đã ăn rồi. 13Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời phán hỏi người nữ rằng: Người có làm điều chi vậy? Người nữ thưa rằng: Con rắn dỗ dành tôi và tôi đã ăn rồi. 14Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời bèn phán cùng rắn rằng: Vì mầy đã làm điều như vậy, mầy sẽ bị rủa sả trong vòng các loài súc vật, các loài thú đồng, mầy sẽ bò bằng bụng và ăn bụi đất trọn cả đời. 15Ta sẽ làm cho mầy cùng người nữ, dòng dõi mầy cùng dòng dõi người nữ nghịch thù nhau. Người sẽ giày đạp đầu mầy, còn mầy sẽ cắn gót chân người. 16Ngài phán cùng người nữ rằng: Ta sẽ thêm điều cực khổ bội phần trong cơn thai nghén; ngươi sẽ chịu đau đớn mỗi khi sanh con; sự dục vọng ngươi phải xu hướng về chồng, và chồng sẽ cai trị ngươi. 17Ngài lại phán cùng A-đam rằng: Vì ngươi nghe theo lời vợ mà ăn trái cây ta đã dặn không nên ăn, vậy, đất sẽ bị rủa sả vì ngươi; trọn đời ngươi phải chịu khó nhọc mới có vật đất sanh ra mà ăn. 18Ðất sẽ sanh chông gai và cây tật lê, và ngươi sẽ ăn rau của đồng ruộng; 19ngươi sẽ làm đổ mồ hôi trán mới có mà ăn, cho đến ngày nào ngươi trở về đất, là nơi mà có ngươi ra; vì ngươi là bụi, ngươi sẽ trở về bụi. 20A-đam gọi vợ là Ê-va, vì là mẹ của cả loài người. 21Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời lấy da thú kết thành áo dài cho vợ chồng A-đam, và mặc lấy cho. 22Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời phán rằng: Nầy, về sự phân biệt điều thiện và điều ác, loài người đã thành một bực như chúng ta; vậy bây giờ, ta hãy coi chừng, e loài người giơ tay khiến cũng hái trái cây sự sống mà ăn và được sống đời đời chăng. 23Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời bèn đuổi loài người ra khỏi vườn Ê-đen đặng cày cấy đất, là nơi có người ra. 24Vậy, Ngài đuổi loài người ra khỏi vườn, rồi đặt tại phía đông vườn Ê-đen các thần chê-ru-bin với gươm lưỡi chói lòa, để giữ con đường đi đến cây sự sống.
1Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which Yahweh God had made. He said to the woman, “Has God really said, ‘You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?’” 2The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees of the garden, 3but not the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God has said, ‘You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4The serpent said to the woman, “You won’t surely die, 5for God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took some of its fruit, and ate; and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too. 7Their eyes were opened, and they both knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made coverings for themselves. 8They heard the voice of Yahweh God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden. 9Yahweh God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” 10The man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” 11God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” 12The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” 13Yahweh God said to the woman, “What have you done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” 14Yahweh God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. You shall go on your belly and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. 15I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.” 16To the woman he said, “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. In pain you will bear children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” 17To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and ate from the tree, about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ the ground is cursed for your sake. You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life. 18It will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field. 19By the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” 20The man called his wife Eve because she would be the mother of all the living. 21Yahweh God made coats of animal skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them. 22Yahweh God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand, and also take of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever...” 23Therefore Yahweh God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken. 24So he drove out the man; and he placed cherubim/f + cherubim are powerful angelic creatures, messengers of God with wings. See Ezekiel 10./f* at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

Toen verborg zich Adam en zijn vrouw voor het aangezicht van den HEERE God, in het midden van het geboomte des hofs. 9En de HEERE God riep Adam, en zeide tot hem: Waar zijt gij? 10En hij zeide: Ik hoorde Uw stem in den hof, en ik vreesde; want ik ben naakt; daarom verborg ik mij. 11En Hij zeide: Wie heeft u te kennen gegeven, dat gij naakt zijt? Hebt gij van dien boom gegeten, van welken Ik u gebood, dat gij daarvan niet eten zoudt? 12Toen zeide Adam: De vrouw, die Gij bij mij gegeven hebt, die heeft mij van dien boom gegeven, en ik heb gegeten. 13En de HEERE God zeide tot de vrouw: Wat is dit, dat gij gedaan hebt? En de vrouw zeide: De slang heeft mij bedrogen, en ik heb gegeten. 14Toen zeide de HEERE God tot die slang: Dewijl gij dit gedaan hebt, zo zijt gij vervloekt boven al het vee, en boven al het gedierte des velds! Op uw buik zult gij gaan, en stof zult gij eten, al de dagen uws levens. 15En Ik zal vijandschap zetten tussen u en tussen deze vrouw, en tussen uw zaad en tussen haar zaad; datzelve zal u de kop vermorzelen, en gij zult het de verzenen vermorzelen. 16Tot de vrouw zeide Hij: Ik zal zeer vermenigvuldigen uw smart, namelijk uwer dracht; met smart zult gij kinderen baren; en tot uw man zal uw begeerte zijn, en hij zal over u heerschappij hebben. 17En tot Adam zeide Hij: Dewijl gij geluisterd hebt naar de stem uwer vrouw, en van dien boom gegeten, waarvan Ik u gebood, zeggende: Gij zult daarvan niet eten; zo zij het aardrijk om uwentwil vervloekt; en met smart zult gij daarvan eten al de dagen uws levens. 18Ook zal het u doornen en distelen voortbrengen, en gij zult het kruid des velds eten. 19In het zweet uws aanschijns zult gij brood eten, totdat gij tot de aarde wederkeert, dewijl gij daaruit genomen zijt; want gij zijt stof, en gij zult tot stof wederkeren. 20Voorts noemde Adam den naam zijner vrouw Heva, omdat zij een moeder aller levenden is. 21En de HEERE God maakte voor Adam en zijn vrouw rokken van vellen, en toog ze hun aan. 22Toen zeide de HEERE God: Ziet, de mens is geworden als Onzer een, kennende het goed en het kwaad! Nu dan, dat hij zijn hand niet uitsteke, en neme ook van den boom des levens, en ete, en leve in eeuwigheid. 23Zo verzond hem de HEERE God uit den hof van Eden, om den aardbodem te bouwen, waaruit hij genomen was. 24En Hij dreef de mens uit; en stelde cherubim tegen het oosten des hofs van Eden, en een vlammig lemmer eens zwaards, dat zich omkeerde, om te bewaren den weg van den boom des levens.
