1Áp-ram ở Ê-díp-tô dẫn vợ cùng các tài vật mình và Lót đồng trở lên Nam phương. 2Vả, Áp-ram rất giàu có súc vật, vàng và bạc. 3người vừa đi vừa đóng trại, từ Nam phương trở về Bê-tên và A-hi, 4là nơi đã lập một bàn thờ lúc trước. Ở đó Áp-ram cầu khẩn danh Ðức Giê-hô-va. 5Vả, Lót cùng đi với Áp-ram, cũng có chiên, bò, và trại. 6Xứ đó không đủ chỗ cho hai người ở chung, vì tài vật rất nhiều cho đến đỗi không ở chung nhau được. 7Trong khi dân Ca-na-an và dân Phê-rê-sít ở trong xứ, xảy có chuyện tranh giành của bọn chăn chiên Áp-ram cùng bọn chăn chiên Lót. 8Áp-ram nói cùng Lót rằng: Chúng ta là cốt nhục, xin ngươi cùng ta chẳng nên cãi lẫy nhau và bọn chăn chiên ta cùng bọn chăn chiên ngươi cũng đừng tranh giành nhau nữa. 9Toàn xứ há chẳng ở trước mặt ngươi sao? Vậy, hãy lìa khỏi ta; nếu ngươi lấy bên hữu, ta sẽ qua bên tả. 10Lót bèn ngước mắt lên, thấy khắp cánh đồng bằng bên sông Giô-đanh, là nơi (trước khi Ðức Giê-hô-va chưa phá hủy thành Sô-đôm và Gô-mô-rơ) thảy đều có nước chảy tưới khắp đến Xoa; đồng ó cũng như vườn của Ðức Giê-hô-va và như xứ Ê-díp-tô vậy. 11Lót bèn chọn lấy cho mình hết cánh đồng bằng bên sông Giô-đanh và đi qua phía Ðông. Vậy, hai người chia rẽ nhau. 12Áp-ram ở trong xứ Ca-na-an, còn Lót ở trong thành của đồng bằng và dời trại mình đến Sô-đôm. 13Vả, dân Sô-đôm là độc ác và kẻ phạm tội trọng cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va. 14Sau khi Lót lìa khỏi Áp-ram rồi, Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Áp-ram rằng: Hãy nhướng mắt lên, nhìn từ chỗ ngươi cho đến phương bắc, phương nam, phương đông và phương tây: 15Vì cả xứ nào ngươi thấy, ta sẽ ban cho ngươi và cho dòng dõi ngươi đời đời. 16Ta sẽ làm cho dòng dõi ngươi như bụi trên đất; thế thì, nếu kẻ nào đếm đặng dòng dõi ngươi vậy. 17Hãy đứng dậy đi khắp trong xứ, bề dài và bề ngang; vì ta sẽ ban cho ngươi xứ nầy. 18Ðoạn áp-ram đời trại mình đến ở nơi lùm cây dẻ bộp tại Mam-rê, thuộc về Hếp-rôn, và lập tại đó một bàn thờ cho Ðức Giê-hô-va.
1Abram went up out of Egypt: he, his wife, all that he had, and Lot with him, into the South. 2Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. 3He went on his journeys from the South even to Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, 4to the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first. There Abram called on Yahweh’s name. 5Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents. 6The land was not able to bear them, that they might live together: for their substance was great, so that they could not live together. 7There was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite lived in the land at that time. 8Abram said to Lot, “Please, let there be no strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are relatives. 9Isn’t the whole land before you? Please separate yourself from me. If you go to the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if you go to the right hand, then I will go to the left.” 10Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well-watered everywhere, before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar. 11So Lot chose the Plain of the Jordan for himself. Lot traveled east, and they separated themselves the one from the other. 12Abram lived in the land of Canaan, and Lot lived in the cities of the plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom. 13Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinners against Yahweh. 14Yahweh said to Abram, after Lot was separated from him, “Now, lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, 15for all the land which you see, I will give to you, and to your offspring forever. 16I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then your seed may also be numbered. 17Arise, walk through the land in its length and in its breadth; for I will give it to you.” 18Abram moved his tent, and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to Yahweh.

Scheid u toch van mij; zo gij de linkerhand kiest, zo zal ik ter rechterhand gaan; en zo gij de rechterhand, zo zal ik ter linkerhand gaan. 10En Lot hief zijn ogen op, en hij zag de ganse vlakte der Jordaan, dat zij die geheel bevochtigde; eer de HEERE Sodom en Gomorra verdorven had, was zij als de hof des HEEREN, als Egypteland, als gij komt te Zoar. 11Zo koos Lot voor zich de ganse vlakte der Jordaan, en Lot trok tegen het oosten; en zij werden gescheiden, de een van den ander. 12Abram dan woonde in het land Kanaan; en Lot woonde in de steden der vlakte, en sloeg tenten tot aan Sodom toe. 13En de mannen van Sodom waren boos, en grote zondaars tegen den HEERE. 14En de HEERE zeide tot Abram, nadat Lot van hem gescheiden was: Hef uw ogen op, en zie van de plaats, waar gij zijt noordwaarts en zuidwaarts, en oostwaarts en westwaarts. 15Want al dit land, dat gij ziet, zal Ik u geven, en aan uw zaad, tot in eeuwigheid. 16En Ik zal uw zaad stellen als het stof der aarde, zodat, indien iemand het stof der aarde zal kunnen tellen, zal ook uw zaad geteld worden. 17Maak u op, wandel door dit land, in zijn lengte en in zijn breedte, want Ik zal het u geven. 18En Abram sloeg tenten op, en kwam en woonde aan de eikenbossen van Mamre, die bij Hebron zijn; en hij bouwde aldaar den HEERE een altaar.
