1Ðoạn, chúng ta trở lại đi vào đồng vắng về hướng Biển đỏ, y như Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán dặn ta, và chúng ta đi vòng lâu ngày quanh núi Sê -i-rơ. 2Ðức Giê-hô-va có phán cùng ta mà rằng: 3Các ngươi đi vòng núi nầy cũng đã lâu rồi, hãy trở lên hướng bắc. 4Hãy truyền lịnh nầy cho dân sự: Các ngươi sẽ trải qua địa phận của anh em mình, tức là con cháu Ê-sau, ở tại Sê -i-rơ, và chúng nó sẽ sợ các ngươi. Nhưng hãy giữ lấy mình, 5chớ có tranh cùng chúng nó, vì ta sẽ không cho các ngươi xứ của chúng nó đâu, dầu đến nỗi một thẻo đất bằng bàn chân cũng không cho. Ta đã ban cho Ê-sau núi Sê -i-rơ làm sản nghiệp. 6Các ngươi sẽ dùng tiền bạc mà mua lương thức của chúng nó mà ăn, nước mà uống. 7Vì Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời ngươi đã ban phước cho mọi công việc làm của tay ngươi; Ngài đã biết cuộc đi đường ngươi ngang qua đồng vắng lớn lao nầy. Trong bốn mười năm nầy, Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời ngươi vẫn ở cùng ngươi; ngươi không thiếu chi hết. 8Vậy, chúng ta có đi ngang qua cách xa anh em ta, là con cháu Ê-sau, ở tại Sê -i-rơ, và bắt đi về hướng đồng vắng Mô-áp, đặng tránh con đường đồng bằng, cùng Ê-lát và Ê-xi-ôn-Ghê-be. 9Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn phán cùng ta rằng: Chớ đương địch và chớ chiến trận với dân Mô-áp; vì ta không cho ngươi chi trong xứ dân ấy làm sản nghiệp đâu, bởi ta đã ban A-rơ cho con cháu Lót làm sản nghiệp. 10(Lúc trước, dân Ê-mim ở tại đó. Ấy là một dân lớn, đông, hình giềng giàng như dân A-na-kim vậy. 11Người ta cũng cho dân nầy là dân giềng giàng như dân A-na-kim; nhưng dân Mô-áp gọi họ là Ê-mim. 12Dân Hô-rít lúc trước cũng ở tại Sê -i-rơ; song con cháu Ê-sau diệt dân ấy, đoạt lấy xứ họ và ở thế cho, y như Y-sơ-ra-ên làm trong xứ mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã ban cho người làm sản nghiệp). 13Bây giờ, hãy đứng dậy, đi ngang qua khe Xê-rết. Vậy, chúng ta có đi ngang khe Xê-rết. 14Vả, thì giờ về các cuộc đi đường của chúng ta, từ khi lìa khỏi Ca-đe-Ba-nê-a, tới lúc đi ngang qua khe Xê-rết, cộng là ba mươi tám năm, cho đến chừng các người chiến sĩ về đời ấy đã diệt mất khỏi trại quân, y như Ðức Giê-hô-va đã thề cùng các người đó. 15Vả lại, tay Ðức Giê-hô-va cũng tra vào họ đặng diệt họ khỏi trại quân, cho đến chừng nào họ đều tiêu diệt hết. 16Xảy khi các người chiến sĩ đã bị tiêu diệt và chết mất khỏi dân sự, 17thì Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng ta mà rằng: 18Ngày nay ngươi sẽ đi ngang qua A-rơ, bờ cõi của dân Mô-áp, 19và đến gần con cháu Am-môn. Chớ đương địch và chớ chiến trận cùng chúng nó; vì ta không cho ngươi chi hết của xứ con cháu Am-môn làm sản nghiệp, bởi ta đã ban xứ đó cho con cháu của Lót làm sản nghiệp. 20(Nguyên xứ nầy gọi là xứ Rê-pha-im. Xưa kia dân Rê-pha-im ở đó, dân Am-môn gọi là Xam-xu-mim; 21ấy là một dân lớn, đông, hình giềng giàng như dân A-na-kim. Chỉ hãy để cho tôi đi ngang qua luôn, 29cũng như con cháu Ê-sau ở tại Sê -i-rơ, và dân Mô-áp ở tại A-rơ đã cho phép vậy, cho đến chừng nào tôi đi qua Giô-đanh, đặng vào xứ mà Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời tôi ban cho tôi. 30Nhưng Si-hôn, vua Hết-bôn, không khứng chúng ta đi ngang qua địa phận người; vì Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời ngươi đã khiến cho tánh người ngoan ngạch, lòng người cứng cỏi, để phó người vào tay ngươi, y như điều đã xảy đến ngày nay. 31Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng ta rằng: kìa, từ bây giờ, ta phó Si-hôn và xứ người cho ngươi. Hãy khởi chiếm lấy xứ người đặng làm cơ nghiệp. 32Vậy, Si-hôn và cả dân sự người ra đón chúng ta, đặng giao chiến tại Gia-hát. 33Nhưng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng ta phó người cho chúng ta, và chúng ta đánh bại người, các con trai cùng cả dân sự của người. 34Trong lúc đó, ta chiếm hết các thành người, khấn vái diệt hết các thành, cả người nam, người nữ, và các con trẻ, không chừa lại một ai. 35Chúng ta chỉ có cướp lấy cho phần mình súc vật và hóa tài của các thành mình đã thắng được. 36Từ A-rô -e, ở trên mé khe Aït-nôn, và cái thành ở trong trũng, cho đến Ga-la-át, chẳng có một thành nào lấy làm kiên cố quá cho chúng ta; Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng ta đã phó các thành đó cho chúng ta hết. 37Chỉn ngươi không có lại gần xứ của con cháu Am-môn, ở dọc khắp mé khe Gia-bốc, hoặc các thành trên núi hay là chỗ nào Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng ta cấm không cho chúng ta chiếm lấy.
1Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea, as Yahweh spoke to me; and we encircled Mount Seir many days. 2Yahweh spoke to me, saying, 3“You have encircled this mountain long enough. Turn northward. 4Command the people, saying, ‘You are to pass through the border of your brothers the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. Therefore be careful. 5Don’t contend with them; for I will not give you any of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on; because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession. 6You shall purchase food from them for money, that you may eat. You shall also buy water from them for money, that you may drink.’” 7For Yahweh your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand. He has known your walking through this great wilderness. These forty years, Yahweh your God has been with you. You have lacked nothing. 8So we passed by from our brothers the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Elath and from Ezion Geber. We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab. 9Yahweh said to me, “Don’t bother Moab, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give you any of his land for a possession; because I have given Ar to the children of Lot for a possession.” 10(The Emim lived therein before, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim. 11These also are considered to be Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim. 12The Horites also lived in Seir before, but the children of Esau succeeded them. They destroyed them from before them, and lived in their place; as Israel did to the land of his possession, which Yahweh gave to them.) 13“Now rise up, and cross over the brook Zered.” We went over the brook Zered. 14The days in which we came from Kadesh Barnea, until we had come over the brook Zered, were thirty-eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the midst of the camp, as Yahweh swore to them. 15Moreover the hand of Yahweh was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed. 16So, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people, 17Yahweh spoke to me, saying, 18“You are this day to pass over Ar, the border of Moab. 19When you come near the border of the children of Ammon, don’t bother them, nor contend with them; for I will not give you any of the land of the children of Ammon for a possession; because I have given it to the children of Lot for a possession.” 20(That also is considered a land of Rephaim: Rephaim lived there before; but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim, 21a great people, many, and tall, as the Anakim; but Yahweh destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place; 22as he did for the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place even to this day: 23and the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, who came out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and lived in their place.) 24“Rise up, take your journey, and pass over the valley of the Arnon: behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle. 25This day will I begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole sky, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of you.” 26I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying, 27“Let me pass through your land. I will go along by the highway, I will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left. 28You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink. Just let me pass through on my feet, 29as the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me; until I pass over the Jordan into the land which Yahweh our God gives us.” 30But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for Yahweh your God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as at this day. 31Yahweh said to me, “Behold, I have begun to deliver up Sihon and his land before you. Begin to possess, that you may inherit his land.” 32Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Jahaz. 33Yahweh our God delivered him up before us; and we struck him, his sons, and all his people. 34We took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every inhabited city, with the women and the little ones. We left no one remaining. 35Only the livestock we took for plunder for ourselves, with the plunder of the cities which we had taken. 36From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was not a city too high for us. Yahweh our God delivered up all before us. 37Only to the land of the children of Ammon you didn’t come near; all the side of the river Jabbok, and the cities of the hill country, and wherever Yahweh our God forbade us.
1Daarna keerden wij ons, en reisden naar de woestijn, den weg van de Schelfzee, gelijk de HEERE tot mij gesproken had, en wij togen om het gebergte Seir, vele dagen. 2Toen sprak de HEERE tot mij, zeggende: 3Gijlieden hebt dit gebergte genoeg omgetogen; keert u naar het noorden; 4En gebied het volk, zeggende: Gij zult doortrekken aan de landpale uwer broederen, de kinderen van Ezau, die in Seir wonen; zij zullen wel voor u vrezen; maar gij zult u zeer wachten. 5Mengt u niet met hen; want Ik zal u van hun land niet geven, ook niet tot de betreding van een voetzool; want Ik heb Ezau het gebergte Seir ter erfenis gegeven. 6Spijze zult gij voor geld van hen kopen, dat gij etet; en ook zult gij water voor geld van hen kopen, dat gij drinket. 7Want de HEERE, uw God, heeft u gezegend in al het werk uwer hand; Hij kent uw wandelen door deze zo grote woestijn; deze veertig jaren is de HEERE, uw God, met u geweest; geen ding heeft u ontbroken. 8Als wij nu doorgetrokken waren van onze broederen, de kinderen van Ezau, die in Seir woonden, van den weg des vlakken velds, van Elath, en van Ezeon-Geber, zo keerden wij ons, en doortogen den weg der woestijn van Moab. 9Toen sprak de HEERE tot mij: Beangstig Moab niet, en meng u niet met hen in den strijd; want Ik zal u geen erfenis van hun land geven, dewijl Ik aan Lots kinderen Ar ter erfenis gegeven heb. 10De Emieten woonden te voren daarin, een groot, en menigvuldig, en lang volk, gelijk de Enakieten. 11Dezen werden ook voor reuzen gehouden, als de Enakieten; en de Moabieten noemden hen Emieten. 12Ook woonden de Horieten te voren in Seir; maar de kinderen van Ezau verdreven hen uit de bezitting en verdelgden hen van hun aangezicht, en hebben in hunlieder plaats gewoond; gelijk als Israel gedaan heeft aan het land zijner erfenis, hetwelk de HEERE hun gegeven heeft. 13Nu, maakt u op, en trekt over de beek Zered. Alzo trokken wij over de beek Zered. 14De dagen nu, die wij gewandeld hebben van Kades-Barnea, totdat wij over de beek Zered getogen zijn, waren acht en dertig jaren; totdat het ganse geslacht der krijgslieden uit het midden der heirlegers verteerd was, gelijk de HEERE hun gezworen had. 15Zo was ook de hand des HEEREN tegen hen, om hen uit het midden des heirlegers te verslaan, totdat zij verteerd waren. 16En het geschiedde, als al de krijgslieden verteerd waren, uit het midden des heirlegers wegstervende, 17Dat de HEERE tot mij sprak, zeggende: 18Gij zult heden doortrekken aan Ar, de landpale van Moab; 19En gij zult naderen tegenover de kinderen Ammons; beangstig die niet, en meng u met hen niet; want Ik zal u van het land der kinderen Ammons geen erfenis geven, dewijl Ik het aan Lots kinderen ter erfenis gegeven heb. 20Dit werd ook voor een land der reuzen gehouden; de reuzen woonden te voren daarin, en de Ammonieten noemden hen Zamzummieten; 21Een groot, en menigvuldig, en lang volk, als de Enakieten; en de HEERE verdelgde hen voor hun aangezicht, zodat zij hen uit de bezitting verdreven, en aan hunlieder plaats woonden; 22Gelijk als Hij aan de kinderen van Ezau, die in Seir wonen, gedaan heeft, voor welker aangezicht Hij de Horieten verdelgde; en zij verdreven hen uit de bezitting, en hebben aan hun plaats gewoond tot op dezen dag. 23Ook hebben de Kafthorieten, die uit Kafthor uittogen, de Avieten, die in Hazerim tot Gaza toe woonden, verdelgd, en aan hun plaats gewoond. 24Maakt u op, reist heen, en gaat over de beek Arnon; ziet, Ik heb Sihon, den koning van Hesbon, den Amoriet, en zijn land, in uw hand gegeven; begint te erven, en mengt u met hen in den strijd. 25Te dezen dage zal Ik beginnen uw schrik en uw vreze te geven over het aangezicht der volken, onder den gansen hemel; die uw gerucht zullen horen, die zullen sidderen, en bang zijn van uw aangezicht. 26Toen zond ik boden uit de woestijn Kedemot tot Sihon, den koning van Hesbon, met woorden van vrede, zeggende: 27Laat mij door uw land doortrekken; ik zal alleenlijk langs den weg voorttrekken; ik zal noch ter rechterhand noch ter linkerhand uitwijken. 28Verkoop mij spijze voor geld, dat ik ete, en geef mij water voor geld, dat ik drinke; alleenlijk laat mij op mijn voeten doortrekken; 29Gelijk de kinderen van Ezau, die in Seir wonen, en de Moabieten, die in Ar wonen, mij gedaan hebben; totdat ik over de Jordaan kome in het land, dat de HEERE, onze God, ons geven zal. 30Maar Sihon, de koning van Hesbon, wilde ons door hetzelve niet laten doortrekken; want de HEERE,, uw God, verhardde zijn geest, en verstokte zijn hart, opdat Hij hem in uw hand gave, gelijk het is te dezen dage. 31En de HEERE zeide tot mij: Zie, Ik heb begonnen Sihon en zijn land voor uw aangezicht te geven; begin dan te erven, om zijn land erfelijk te bezitten. 32En Sihon toog uit ons tegemoet, hij en al zijn volk, ten strijde, naar Jahaz. 33En de HEERE, onze God, gaf hem voor ons aangezicht; en wij sloegen hem, en zijn zonen, en al zijn volk. 34En wij namen te dier tijd al zijn steden in, en wij verbanden alle steden, mannen, en vrouwen, en kinderkens; wij lieten niemand overblijven. 35Het vee alleen roofden wij voor ons, en den roof der steden, die wij innamen. 36Van Aroer af, dat aan den oever der beek Arnon is, en de stad, die aan de beek is, ook tot Gilead toe, was er geen stad, die voor ons te hoog was; de HEERE, onze God, gaf dat alles voor ons aangezicht. 37Behalve tot het land van de kinderen Ammons naderdet gij niet, noch tot de ganse streek der beek Jabbok, noch tot de steden van het gebergte, noch tot iets, dat de HEERE, onze God, ons verboden had.
