1Phao-lô, theo ý muốn Ðức Chúa Trời, làm sứ đồ Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ, cùng người anh em chúng ta là Ti-mô-thê, gởi cho Hội thánh của Ðức Chúa Trời ở thành Cô-rinh-tô, và cho hết thảy thánh đồ ở khắp xứ A-chai: 2nguyền xin anh em được ân điển và sự bình an ban cho bởi Ðức Chúa Trời, Cha chúng ta, và bởi Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ! 3Chúc tạ Ðức Chúa Trời, Cha Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ chúng ta, là Cha hay thương xót, là Ðức Chúa Trời ban mọi sự yên ủi. 4Ngài yên ủi chúng tôi trong mọi sự khốn nạn, hầu cho nhơn sự yên ủi mà Ngài đã yên ủi chúng tôi, thì chúng tôi cũng có thể yên ủi kẻ khác trong sự khốn nạn nào họ gặp! 5Vì như những sự đau đớn của Ðấng Christ chan chứa trong chúng tôi thể nào, thì sự yên ủi của chúng tôi bởi Ðấng Christ mà chứa chan cũng thể ấy. 6Như vậy, hoặc chúng tôi gặp hoạn nạn, ấy là cho anh em được yên ủi và được rỗi; hoặc chúng tôi được yên ủi, ấy là cho anh em yên ủi, mà sự yên ủi đó được hiện ra bởi anh em chịu cách nhịn nhục những sự đau đớn mà chúng tôi cùng chịu. 7Sự trông cậy của chúng tôi về anh em thật vững vàng; vì biết rằng bởi anh em có phần trong sự đau đớn, thì cùng có phần trong sự yên ủi vậy. 8Vả, hỡi anh em, chúng tôi không muốn để anh em chẳng biết sự khổ nạn đã xảy đến cho chúng tôi trong xứ A-si, và chúng tôi đã bị đè nén quá chừng, quá sức mình, đến nỗi mất lòng trông cậy giữ sự sống. 9Chúng tôi lại hình như đã nhận án xử tử, hầu cho chúng tôi không cậy mình, nhưng cậy Ðức Chúa Trời là Ðấng khiến kẻ chết sống lại. 10Ấy chính Ngài đã cứu chúng tôi khỏi sự chết lớn dường ấy, và sẽ cứu chúng tôi; phải, chúng tôi còn mong Ngài sẽ cứu chúng tôi nữa. 11Chính anh em lấy lời cầu nguyện mà giúp đỡ chúng tôi, hầu cho chúng tôi nhờ nhiều người cầu nguyện mà được ơn, thì cũng nên dịp cho nhiều người vì cớ chúng tôi mà tạ ơn nữa. 12Còn như cái điều làm vẻ vang cho chúng tôi, ấy là lương tâm chúng tôi làm chứng rằng mình lấy sự thánh sạch và thật thà đến bởi Ðức Chúa Trời mà ăn ở với anh em, không cậy sự khôn ngoan theo tánh xác thịt, nhưng cậy ơn của Ðức Chúa Trời. 13Vì chúng tôi chẳng viết cho anh em sự gì khác hơn những điều anh em đọc trong thơ chúng tôi và chính mình anh em nhận biết; và tôi lại mong anh em nhận biết cho đến cuối cùng, 14cũng như anh em đã nhận biết ít nhiều rồi: ấy là chúng tôi làm vẻ vang cho anh em, khác nào anh em cũng làm vẻ vang cho chúng tôi trong ngày Ðức Chúa Jêsus chúng ta. 15Bởi sự trông cậy đó, trước đây tôi có định đi thăm anh em, hầu giúp cho anh em được ơn bội phần. 16Tôi định trải qua nơi anh em rồi đi xứ Ma-xê-đoan, lại Ma-xê-đoan trở về nơi anh em, tại nơi đó, anh em cho đưa tôi qua xứ Giu-đê. 17Tôi định ý như vậy, nào có phải bởi tôi nhẹ dạ sao? Hãy là tôi theo xác thịt mà quyết định, đến nỗi nơi tôi khi thì phải khi thì chăng sao? 18Thật như Ðức Chúa Trời là thành tín, lời chúng tôi nói với anh em cũng chẳng phải khi thì phải khi thì chăng vậy. 19Con Ðức Chúa Trời, là Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ, mà chúng ta tức là tôi với Sin-vanh và Ti-mô-thê, đã giảng ra trong anh em, chẳng phải là vừa phải vừa chăng đâu; nhưng trong Ngài chỉ có phải mà thôi. 20Vì chưng cũng như các lời hứa của Ðức Chúa Trời đều là phải trong Ngài cả, ấy cũng bởi Ngài mà chúng tôi nói "A-men," làm sáng danh Ðức Chúa Trời. 21Vả, Ðấng làm cho bền vững chúng tôi với anh em trong Ðấng Christ, và đã xức dầu cho chúng tôi, ấy là Ðức Chúa Trời; 22Ngài cũng lấy ấn mình mà đóng cho chúng tôi và ban của tin Ðức Thánh Linh trong lòng chúng tôi. 23Tôi cầu Ðức Chúa Trời lấy linh hồn tôi làm chứng rằng, ấy là tại nể anh em mà tôi chưa đi đến thành Cô-rinh-tô; 24chớ không phải chúng tôi muốn cai trị đức tin anh em, nhưng chúng tôi muốn giúp thêm sự vui của anh em, vì anh em đứng vững vàng trong đức tin.
1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the assembly of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia: 2Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; 4who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5For as the sufferings of Christ abound to us, even so our comfort also abounds through Christ. 6But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer. 7Our hope for you is steadfast, knowing that, since you are partakers of the sufferings, so also are you of the comfort. 8For we don’t desire to have you uninformed, brothers, concerning our affliction which happened to us in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, so much that we despaired even of life. 9Yes, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead, 10who delivered us out of so great a death, and does deliver; on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us; 11you also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift bestowed on us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on your behalf. 12For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you. 13For we write no other things to you, than what you read or even acknowledge, and I hope you will acknowledge to the end; 14as also you acknowledged us in part, that we are your boasting, even as you also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus. 15In this confidence, I was determined to come first to you, that you might have a second benefit; 16and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and to be sent forward by you on my journey to Judea. 17When I therefore was thus determined, did I show fickleness? Or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the “Yes, yes” and the “No, no?” 18But as God is faithful, our word toward you was not “Yes and no.” 19For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, by me, Silvanus, and Timothy, was not “Yes and no,” but in him is “Yes.” 20For however many are the promises of God, in him is the “Yes.” Therefore also through him is the “Amen”, to the glory of God through us. 21Now he who establishes us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God; 22who also sealed us, and gave us the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts. 23But I call God for a witness to my soul, that I didn’t come to Corinth to spare you. 24Not that we control your faith, but are fellow workers with you for your joy. For you stand firm in faith.
1Paulus, een apostel van Jezus Christus, door den wil van God, en Timotheus, de broeder, aan de Gemeente Gods, die te Korinthe is, met al de heiligen, die in geheel Achaje zijn: 2Genade zij u en vrede van God, onzen Vader, en den Heere Jezus Christus. 3Geloofd zij de God en Vader van onzen Heere Jezus Christus, de Vader der barmhartigheden, en de God aller vertroosting; 4Die ons vertroost in al onze verdrukking, opdat wij zouden kunnen vertroosten degenen, die in allerlei verdrukking zijn, door de vertroosting, met welke wij zelven van God vertroost worden. 5Want gelijk het lijden van Christus overvloedig is in ons, alzo is ook door Christus onze vertroosting overvloedig. 6Doch hetzij dat wij verdrukt worden, het is tot uw vertroosting en zaligheid, die gewrocht wordt in de lijdzaamheid van hetzelfde lijden, hetwelk wij ook lijden; hetzij dat wij vertroost worden, het is tot uw vertroosting en zaligheid; 7En onze hoop van u is vast, als die weten, dat, gelijk gij gemeenschap hebt aan het lijden, gij ook alzo gemeenschap hebt aan de vertroosting. 8Want wij willen niet, broeders, dat gij onwetende zijt van onze verdrukking, die ons in Azie overkomen is, dat wij uitnemend zeer bezwaard zijn geweest boven onze macht, alzo dat wij zeer in twijfel waren, ook van het leven. 9Ja, wij hadden al zelven in onszelven het vonnis des doods, opdat wij niet op onszelven vertrouwen zouden, maar op God, Die de doden verwekt; 10Die ons uit zo groten dood verlost heeft, en nog verlost; op Welken wij hopen, dat Hij ons ook nog verlossen zal. 11Alzo gijlieden ook medearbeidt voor ons door het gebed, opdat over de gave, door vele personen aan ons teweeggebracht ook voor ons dankzegging door velen gedaan worde. 12Want onze roem is deze, namelijk de getuigenis van ons geweten, dat wij in eenvoudigheid en oprechtheid Gods, niet in vleselijke wijsheid, maar in de genade Gods, in de wereld verkeerd hebben, en allermeest bij ulieden. 13Want wij schrijven u geen andere dingen, dan die gij kent, of ook erkent; en ik hoop, dat gij ze ook tot het einde toe erkennen zult; 14Gelijkerwijs gij ook ten dele ons erkend hebt, dat wij uw roem zijn, gelijk gij ook de onze zijt, in den dag van den Heere Jezus. 15En op dit betrouwen wilde ik te voren tot u komen, opdat gij een tweede genade zoudt hebben; 16En door uw stad naar Macedonie gaan, en wederom van Macedonie tot u komen, en van ulieden naar Judea geleid worden. 17Als ik dan dit voorgenomen heb, heb ik ook lichtvaardigheid gebruikt? Of neem ik het naar het vlees voor, hetgeen ik voorneem, opdat bij mij zou wezen, ja, ja, en neen, neen? 18Doch God is getrouw, dat ons woord, hetwelk tot u is geschied, niet is geweest ja en neen. 19Want de Zoon van God, Jezus Christus, Die onder u door ons is gepredikt, namelijk door mij, en Silvanus, en Timotheus, was niet ja en neen, maar is geweest ja in Hem. 20Want zovele beloften Gods als er zijn, die zijn in Hem ja, en zijn in Hem amen, Gode tot heerlijkheid door ons. 21Maar Die ons met u bevestigt in Christus, en Die ons gezalfd heeft, is God; 22Die ons ook heeft verzegeld, en het onderpand des Geestes in onze harten gegeven. 23Doch ik aanroepe God tot een Getuige over mijn ziel, dat ik, om u te sparen, nog te Korinthe niet ben gekomen. 24Niet dat wij heerschappij voeren over uw geloof, maar wij zijn medewerkers uwer blijdschap; want gij staat door het geloof.
