1Nang ikadalawang pu't apat na araw nga ng buwang ito ay nagpupulong ang mga anak ni Israel na may pagaayuno, at may pananamit na magaspang, at may lupa sa ulo nila. 2At ang binhi ni Israel ay nagsihiwalay sa lahat na taga ibang bayan, at nagsitayo at nangagpahayag ng kanilang mga kasalanan, at ng mga kasamaan ng kanilang mga magulang. 3At sila'y nagsitayo sa kanilang dako, at bumasa sa aklat ng kautusan ng Panginoon nilang Dios ng isang ikaapat na bahagi ng araw; at ang isang ikaapat na bahagi ay nagpahayag ng kasalanan, at nagsisamba sa Panginoon nilang Dios. 4Nang magkagayo'y nagsitayo sa mga baytang ng mga Levita, si Jesua, at si Bani, si Cadmiel, si Sebanias, si Bunni, si Serebias, si Bani at si Chenani, at nagsidaing ng malakas sa Panginoon nilang Dios. 5Nang magkagayo'y ang mga Levita; si Jesua at si Cadmiel, si Bani, at si Hosabnias, si Serebias, si Odaias, si Sebanias, at si Pethaia, ay nagsipagsabi, Kayo'y magsitayo at magsipuri sa Panginoon ninyong Dios na mula sa walang pasimula hanggang sa walang hanggan: at purihin ang iyong maluwalhating pangalan, na nataas ng higit sa lahat ng pagpapala at pagpuri. 6Ikaw ang Panginoon, ikaw lamang; ikaw ang lumikha ng langit, ng langit ng mga langit, pati ng lahat na natatanaw roon, ng lupa at ng lahat na bagay na nangaroon, ng mga dagat at ng lahat na nangaroon, at iyong pinamalaging lahat; at ang hukbo ng langit ay sumasamba sa iyo. 7Ikaw ang Panginoon na Dios, na siyang pumili kay Abram, at naglabas sa kaniya sa Ur ng mga Caldeo, at nagbigay sa kaniya ng pangalang Abraham. 8At nasumpungan mo ang kaniyang puso na tapat sa harap mo, at nakipagtipan ka sa kaniya, upang ibigay ang lupain ng Cananeo, ng Hetheo, at ng Amorrheo, at ng Pherezeo, at ng Jebuseo, at ng Gergeseo, upang ibigay sa kaniyang binhi, at tumupad ng iyong mga salita; sapagka't ikaw ay matuwid. 9At iyong nakita ang kadalamhatian ng aming mga magulang sa Egipto, at iyong dininig ang kanilang daing sa tabi ng Dagat na Mapula: 10At nagpakita ka ng mga tanda at mga kababalaghan kay Faraon, at sa lahat niyang mga lingkod, at sa buong bayan ng kaniyang lupain; sapagka't iyong nakilala na sila'y nagsigawa na may kapalaluan laban sa kanila; at ipinagimbot mo ikaw ng pangalan gaya sa araw na ito. 11At iyong hinawi ang dagat sa harap nila na anopa't sila'y nagsidaan sa gitna ng dagat sa tuyong lupa; at ang mga manghahabol sa kanila ay iyong ibinulusok sa mga kalaliman na gaya ng isang bato sa malalim na tubig. 12Bukod dito'y iyong pinatnubayan sila sa isang tila haliging ulap sa araw; at sa isang tila haliging apoy sa gabi, upang bigyan sila ng tanglaw sa daan na kanilang lalakaran. 13Ikaw rin naman ay bumaba sa bundok ng Sinai, at nagsalita ka sa kanila mula sa langit, at binigyan mo sila ng mga matuwid na kahatulan at mga tunay na kautusan, mga mabuting palatuntunan at mga utos: 14At ipinakilala mo sa kanila ang iyong banal na sabbath, at nagutos ka sa kanila ng mga utos, at ng mga palatuntunan, at ng kautusan, sa pamamagitan ni Moises na iyong lingkod: 15At nagbigay ka sa kanila ng tinapay na mula sa langit sa kanilang pagkagutom, at nilabasan mo sila ng tubig na mula sa malaking bato sa kanilang pagkauhaw, at inutusan mo sila na magsipasok na ariin ang lupain na iyong isinumpa upang ibigay sa kanila. 16Nguni't sila at ang aming mga magulang ay nagsigawa na may kapalaluan, at nagpatigas ng kanilang leeg, at hindi dininig ang iyong mga utos. 17At nagsitanggi na magsisunod, ni hindi man inalaala ang iyong mga kababalaghan na iyong ginawa sa gitna nila, kundi nagpatigas ng kanilang leeg, at sa kanilang panghihimagsik ay naghalal ng isang punong kawal upang magsibalik sa kanilang pagkabihag. Nguni't ikaw ay Dios na madaling magpatawad, mapagbiyaya at puspos ng kaawaan, banayad sa pagkagalit, at sagana sa kahabagan, at hindi mo pinabayaan sila. 18Oo, nang sila'y magsigawa sa kanila ng isang guyang binubo, at magsabi, Ito ay iyong Dios na nagahon sa iyo mula sa Egipto, at sila'y nagsigawa ng malaking pamumungkahi; 19Gayon ma'y ikaw sa iyong masaganang mga kaawaan ay hindi mo pinabayaan sila sa ilang: ang tila haliging ulap ay hindi humiwalay sa kanila sa araw, upang patnubayan sila sa daan; ni ang tila haliging apoy man sa gabi, upang pagpakitaan sila ng liwanag at ng daan na kanilang lalakaran. 20Iyo rin namang ibinigay ang iyong mabuting Espiritu upang turuan sila, at hindi mo inaalis ang iyong mana sa kanilang bibig, at bigyan mo sila ng tubig sa kanilang pagkauhaw. 21Oo apat na pung taon na iyong kinandili sila sa ilang, at hindi sila nagkulang ng anoman; ang kanilang mga suot ay hindi naluma, at ang kanilang mga paa ay hindi namaga. 22Bukod dito'y binigyan mo sila ng mga kaharian at mga bayan, na iyong binahagi ayon sa kanilang mga bahagi: sa gayo'y kanilang inari ang lupain ng Sehon, sa makatuwid baga'y ang lupain ng hari sa Hesbon, at ang lupain ni Og na hari, sa Basan. 23Ang kanila namang mga anak ay pinarami mo na gaya ng mga bituin sa langit, at mga ipinasok mo sila sa lupain, tungkol doon sa iyong sinabi sa kanilang mga magulang, na sila'y magsiparoon, upang ariin. 24Sa gayo'y ang mga anak ay pumasok at inari ang lupain, at iyong pinasuko sa harap nila ang mga mananahan sa lupain, ang mga Cananeo, at ibinigay mo sa kanilang mga kamay, pati ng kanilang mga hari, at ang mga bayan ng lupain, upang magawa nila sa kanila kung ano ang kanilang ibigin. 25At sila'y nagsisakop ng mga bayan na nakukutaan, at ng matabang lupain, at nangagari ng mga bahay na puno ng lahat na mabubuting bagay, ng mga balon na hinukay, ng mga ubasan, at ng mga olibohan, at ng mga punong kahoy na may bungang sagana: na anopa't sila'y nagsikain, at nangabusog, at naging mataba, at nangaaliw sa iyong malaking kagandahang loob. 26Gayon ma'y naging manunuway sila at nanghimagsik laban sa iyo, at tinalikdan ang iyong kautusan, at pinatay ang iyong mga propeta na nangagpatotoo laban sa kanila na sila'y magsipanumbalik sa iyo, at sila'y nagsigawa ng malaking pamumungkahi. 27Kaya't iyong ibinigay sila sa kamay ng kanilang mga kalaban, na siyang nangagpapanglaw sa kanila: at sa panahon ng kanilang kabagabagan, nang sila'y magsidaing sa iyo, iyong dininig mula sa langit; at ayon sa iyong saganang mga kaawaan ay iyong binigyan sila ng mga tagapagligtas, na nangagligtas sa kanila sa kamay ng kanilang mga kalaban. 28Nguni't pagkatapos ng kanilang kapahingahan, sila'y nagsigawa uli ng kasamaan sa harap mo: kaya't pinabayaan mo sila sa kamay ng kanilang mga kaaway, na anopa't mga napapanginoon sa kanila: gayon ma'y nang sila'y magsipanumbalik, at magsidaing sa iyo, iyong dininig mula sa langit; at madalas na iyong iniligtas sila ayon sa iyong mga kaawaan. 29At sumaksi ka laban sa kanila, upang mangaibalik mo sila sa iyong kautusan. Gayon ma'y nagsigawa sila na may kapalaluan, at hindi dininig ang iyong mga utos, kundi nangagkasala laban sa iyong mga kahatulan, (na kung gawin ng isang tao, siya'y mabubuhay sa kanila,) at iniurong ang balikat at nagpatigas ng kanilang leeg, at hindi nangakinig. 30Gayon ma'y tiniis mong malaon sila, at sumaksi ka laban sa kanila ng iyong Espiritu sa pamamagitan ng iyong mga propeta: gayon ma'y hindi sila nangakinig: kaya't ibinigay mo sila sa kamay ng mga bayan ng mga lupain. 31Gayon ma'y sa iyong masaganang mga kaawaan ay hindi mo lubos na niwakasan sila, o pinabayaan man sila; sapagka't ikaw ay mapagbiyaya at maawaing Dios. 32Ngayon nga, aming Dios, na dakila, na makapangyarihan at kakilakilabot na Dios, na nagiingat ng tipan at kaawaan, huwag mong ariing munting bagay sa harap mo ang hirap na dumating sa amin, sa aming mga hari, sa aming mga prinsipe, at sa aming mga saserdote, at sa aming mga propeta, at sa aming mga magulang, at sa iyong buong bayan, mula sa kapanahunan ng mga hari sa Asiria hanggang sa araw na ito. 33Gayon ma'y banal ka sa lahat na dumating sa amin; sapagka't gumawa kang may pagtatapat, nguni't nagsigawa kaming may kasamaan: 34Kahit ang aming mga hari, ang aming mga pangulo, ang aming mga saserdote, o ang aming mga magulang man, hindi nangagingat ng iyong kautusan, o nakinig man sa iyong mga utos at sa iyong mga patotoo, na iyong ipinatotoo laban sa kanila. 35Sapagka't sila'y hindi nangaglingkod sa iyo sa kanilang kaharian, at sa iyong dakilang kagandahang loob na iyong ipinakita sa kanila, at sa malaki at mabungang lupain na iyong ibinigay sa harap nila, o nagsihiwalay man sila sa kanilang mga masamang gawa. 36Narito, kami ay mga alipin sa araw na ito, at tungkol sa lupain na iyong ibinigay sa aming mga magulang upang kanin ang bunga niyaon, at ang buti niyaon, narito, kami ay mga alipin doon. 37At ang lupain ay nagbubunga ng marami sa ganang mga hari na iyong inilagay sa amin dahil sa aming mga kasalanan: sila nama'y may kapangyarihan din sa aming mga katawan, at sa aming hayop sa ikapagsasaya nila, at kami ay nangasa malaking kapanglawan. 38At gayon ma'y dahil sa lahat na ito ay tapat na nangakikipagtipan kami, at isinusulat namin; at tinatakdaan ng aming mga prinsipe, ng aming mga Levita, at ng aming mga saserdote.
1Now in the twenty-fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackcloth, and earth on them. 2The seed of Israel separated themselves from all foreigners, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers. 3They stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of Yahweh their God a fourth part of the day; and a fourth part they confessed, and worshiped Yahweh their God. 4Then Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani of the Levites stood up on the stairs, and cried with a loud voice to Yahweh their God. 5Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, “Stand up and bless Yahweh your God from everlasting to everlasting! Blessed be your glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise! 6You are Yahweh, even you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their army, the earth and all things that are on it, the seas and all that is in them, and you preserve them all. The army of heaven worships you. 7You are Yahweh, the God who chose Abram, and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gave him the name of Abraham, 8and found his heart faithful before you, and made a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite, and the Girgashite, to give it to his seed, and have performed your words; for you are righteous. 9“You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heard their cry by the Red Sea, 10and showed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, and against all his servants, and against all the people of his land; for you knew that they dealt proudly against them, and made a name for yourself, as it is this day. 11You divided the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and you cast their pursuers into the depths, as a stone into the mighty waters. 12Moreover, in a pillar of cloud you led them by day; and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light in the way in which they should go. 13“You came down also on Mount Sinai, and spoke with them from heaven, and gave them right ordinances and true laws, good statutes and commandments, 14and made known to them your holy Sabbath, and commanded them commandments, and statutes, and a law, by Moses your servant, 15and gave them bread from the sky for their hunger, and brought water out of the rock for them for their thirst, and commanded them that they should go in to possess the land which you had sworn to give them. 16“But they and our fathers dealt proudly and hardened their neck, didn’t listen to your commandments, 17and refused to obey, neither were they mindful of your wonders that you did among them, but hardened their neck, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and didn’t forsake them. 18Yes, when they had made them a molten calf, and said, ‘This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt,’ and had committed awful blasphemies; 19yet you in your manifold mercies didn’t forsake them in the wilderness: the pillar of cloud didn’t depart from over them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to show them light, and the way in which they should go. 20You gave also your good Spirit to instruct them, and didn’t withhold your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst. 21“Yes, forty years you sustained them in the wilderness. They lacked nothing. Their clothes didn’t grow old, and their feet didn’t swell. 22Moreover you gave them kingdoms and peoples, which you allotted according to their portions. So they possessed the land of Sihon, even the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan. 23You also multiplied their children as the stars of the sky, and brought them into the land concerning which you said to their fathers, that they should go in to possess it. 24“So the children went in and possessed the land, and you subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gave them into their hands, with their kings, and the peoples of the land, that they might do with them as they pleased. 25They took fortified cities, and a rich land, and possessed houses full of all good things, cisterns dug out, vineyards, and olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance. So they ate, were filled, became fat, and delighted themselves in your great goodness. 26“Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against you, and cast your law behind their back, and killed your prophets that testified against them to turn them again to you, and they committed awful blasphemies. 27Therefore you delivered them into the hand of their adversaries, who distressed them. In the time of their trouble, when they cried to you, you heard from heaven; and according to your manifold mercies you gave them saviors who saved them out of the hand of their adversaries. 28But after they had rest, they did evil again before you; therefore left you them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them; yet when they returned, and cried to you, you heard from heaven; and many times you delivered them according to your mercies, 29and testified against them, that you might bring them again to your law. Yet they dealt proudly, and didn’t listen to your commandments, but sinned against your ordinances, (which if a man does, he shall live in them), turned their backs, stiffened their neck, and would not hear. 30Yet many years you put up with them, and testified against them by your Spirit through your prophets. Yet would they not give ear. Therefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands. 31“Nevertheless in your manifold mercies you did not make a full end of them, nor forsake them; for you are a gracious and merciful God. 32Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness, don’t let all the travail seem little before you, that has come on us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria to this day. 33However you are just in all that has come on us; for you have dealt truly, but we have done wickedly; 34neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept your law, nor listened to your commandments and your testimonies with which you testified against them. 35For they have not served you in their kingdom, and in your great goodness that you gave them, and in the large and rich land which you gave before them, neither did they turn from their wicked works. 36“Behold, we are servants this day, and as for the land that you gave to our fathers to eat its fruit and its good, behold, we are servants in it. 37It yields much increase to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins: also they have power over our bodies, and over our livestock, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress. 38Yet for all this, we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, our Levites, and our priests, seal it.”
1Voorts op den vier en twintigsten dag dezer maand verzamelden zich de kinderen Israels met vasten en met zakken, en aarde was op hen. 2En het zaad Israels scheidde zich af van alle vreemden. En zij stonden, en deden belijdenis van hun zonden en hunner vaderen ongerechtigheden. 3Want als zij opgestaan waren op hun standplaats, zo lazen zij in het wetboek des HEEREN, huns Gods, een vierendeel van den dag; en op een ander vierendeel deden zij belijdenis, en aanbaden den HEERE, hun God. 4Jesua nu, en Bani, Kadmiel, Sebanja, Bunni, Serebja, Bani en Chenani, stonden op het hoge gestoelte der Levieten, en riepen met luider stem tot den HEERE, hun God; 5En de Levieten, Jesua, en Kadmiel, Bani, Hasabneja; Serebja, Hodia, Sebanja, Petahja, zeiden: Staat op, looft den HEERE, uw God, van eeuwigheid tot in eeuwigheid; en men love den Naam Uwer heerlijkheid, die verhoogd is boven allen lof en prijs! 6Gij zijt die HEERE alleen, Gij hebt gemaakt den hemel, den hemel der hemelen, en al hun heir, de aarde en al wat daarop is, de zeeen en al wat daarin is, en Gij maakt die allen levend; en het heir der hemelen aanbidt U. 7Gij zijt die HEERE, de God, Die Abram hebt verkoren, en hem uit Ur der Chaldeen uitgevoerd; en Gij hebt zijn naam gesteld Abraham. 8En Gij hebt zijn hart getrouw gevonden voor Uw aangezicht, en hebt een verbond met hem gemaakt, dat Gij zoudt geven het land der Kanaanieten, der Hethieten, der Amorieten, en der Ferezieten, en der Jebusieten, en der Girgasieten, dat Gij het zijn zade zoudt geven; en Gij hebt Uw woorden bevestigd, omdat Gij rechtvaardig zijt. 9En Gij hebt aangezien onzer vaderen ellende in Egypte, en Gij hebt hun geroep gehoord aan de Schelfzee; 10En Gij hebt tekenen en wonderen gedaan aan Farao, en aan al zijn knechten, en aan al het volk zijns lands; want Gij wist, dat zij trotselijk tegen hen handelden; en Gij hebt U een Naam gemaakt, als het is te dezen dage. 11En Gij hebt de zee voor hun aangezicht gekliefd, dat zij in het midden der zee op het droge zijn doorgegaan; en hun vervolgers hebt Gij in de diepten geworpen, als een steen in sterke wateren. 12En Gij hebt ze des daags geleid met een wolkkolom, en des nachts met een vuurkolom, om hen te lichten op den weg, waarin zij zouden wandelen. 13En Gij zijt neergedaald op den berg Sinai, en hebt met hen gesproken uit den hemel; en Gij hebt hun gegeven rechtmatige rechten, en getrouwe wetten, goede inzettingen en geboden. 14En Gij hebt Uw heiligen sabbat bekend gemaakt; en Gij hebt hun geboden, en inzettingen en een wet bevolen, door de hand van Uw knecht Mozes. 15En Gij hebt hun brood uit den hemel gegeven voor hun honger, en hun water uit de steenrots voortgebracht voor hun dorst; en Gij hebt tot hen gezegd, dat zij zouden ingaan om te erven het land, waarover Gij Uw hand ophieft, dat Gij het hun zoudt geven. 16Maar zij en onze vaders hebben trotselijk gehandeld, en zij hebben hun nek verhard, en niet gehoord naar Uw geboden; 17En zij hebben geweigerd te horen, en niet gedacht aan Uw wonderen, die Gij bij hen gedaan hadt, en hebben hun nek verhard, en in hun wederspannigheid een hoofd gesteld, om weder te keren tot hun dienstbaarheid. Doch Gij, een God van vergevingen, genadig en barmhartig, lankmoedig, en groot van weldadigheid, hebt hen evenwel niet verlaten. 18Zelfs, als zij zich een gegoten kalf gemaakt hadden, en gezegd: Dit is uw God, Die u uit Egypte heeft opgevoerd; en grote lasteren gedaan hadden; 19Hebt Gij hen nochtans door Uw grote barmhartigheid niet verlaten in de woestijn; de wolkkolom week niet van hen des daags, om hen op den weg te leiden, noch de vuurkolom des nachts, om hen te lichten, en dat, op den weg, waarin zij zouden wandelen. 20En Gij hebt Uw goeden Geest gegeven om hen te onderwijzen; en Uw Manna hebt Gij niet geweerd van hun mond, en water hebt Gij hun gegeven voor hun dorst. 21Alzo hebt Gij hen veertig jaren onderhouden in de woestijn; zij hebben geen gebrek gehad; hun klederen zijn niet veroud, en hun voeten niet gezwollen. 22Voorts hebt Gij hun koninkrijken en volken gegeven, en hebt hen verdeeld in hoeken. Alzo hebben zij erfelijk bezeten het land van Sihon, te weten, het land des konings van Hesbon, en het land van Og, koning van Basan. 23Gij hebt ook hun kinderen vermenigvuldigd, als de sterren des hemels; en Gij hebt hen gebracht in het land, waarvan Gij tot hun vaderen hadt gezegd, dat zij zouden ingaan om het erfelijk te bezitten. 24Alzo zijn de kinderen daarin gekomen, en hebben dat land erfelijk ingenomen; en Gij hebt de inwoners des lands, de Kanaanieten, voor hun aangezicht ten ondergebracht, en hebt hen in hun hand gegeven, mitsgaders hun koningen en de volken des lands, om daarmede te doen naar hun welgevallen. 25En zij hebben vaste steden en een vet land ingenomen, en erfelijk bezeten, huizen, vol van alle goed, uitgehouwen bornputten, wijngaarden, olijfgaarden en bomen van spijze, in menigte; en zij hebben gegeten, en zijn zat en vet geworden, en hebben in wellust geleefd, door Uw grote goedigheid. 26Maar zij zijn wederspannig geworden, en hebben tegen U gerebelleerd, en Uw wet achter hun rug geworpen, en Uw profeten gedood die tegen hen betuigden, om hen te doen wederkeren tot U; alzo hebben zij grote lasteren gedaan. 27Daarom hebt Gij hen gegeven in de hand hunner benauwers, die hen benauwd hebben; maar als zij in den tijd hunner benauwdheid tot U riepen, hebt Gij van den hemel gehoord, en hun naar Uw grote barmhartigheden verlossers gegeven, die hen uit de hand hunner benauwers verlosten. 28Maar als zij rust hadden, keerden zij weder om kwaad te doen voor Uw aangezicht; zo verliet Gij hen in de hand hunner vijanden, dat zij over hen heersten; als zij zich dan bekeerden, en U aanriepen, zo hebt Gij hen van den hemel gehoord, en hebt hen naar Uw barmhartigheden tot vele tijden uitgerukt. 29En Gij hebt tegen hen betuigd, om hen te doen wederkeren tot Uw wet; maar zij hebben trotselijk gehandeld, en niet gehoord naar Uw geboden, en tegen Uw rechten, tegen dezelve hebben zij gezondigd, door dewelke een mens, die ze doet, leven zal; en zij hebben hun schouder teruggetogen, en hun nek verhard, en niet gehoord. 30Doch Gij vertoogt het vele jaren over hen, en betuigdet tegen hen door Uw Geest, door den dient Uwer profeten, maar zij neigden het oor niet; daarom hebt Gij hen gegeven in de hand van de volken der landen. 31Doch door Uw grote barmhartigheden hebt Gij hen niet vernield, noch hen verlaten; want Gij zijt een genadig en barmhartig God. 32Nu dan, o onze God, Gij grote, Gij machtige, en Gij vreselijke God, Die het verbond en de weldadigheid houdt; laat voor Uw aangezicht niet gering zijn al de moeite, die ons getroffen heeft, onze koningen, onze vorsten, en onze priesteren; en onze profeten, en onze vaderen, en Uw ganse volk, van de dagen der koningen van Assur af tot op dezen dag. 33Doch Gij zijt rechtvaardig, in alles, wat ons overkomen is; want Gij hebt trouwelijk gehandeld, maar wij hebben goddelooslijk gehandeld. 34En onze koningen, onze vorsten, onze priesters en onze vaders hebben Uw wet niet gedaan; en zij hebben niet geluisterd naar Uw geboden, en naar Uw getuigenissen, die Gij tegen hen betuigdet. 35Want zij hebben U niet gediend in hun koninkrijk, en in Uw menigvuldig goed, dat Gij hun gaaft, en in dat wijde en dat vette land, dat Gij voor hun aangezicht gegeven hadt; en zij hebben zich niet bekeerd van hun boze werken. 36Zie, wij zijn heden knechten; ja, het land, dat Gij onzen vaderen gegeven hebt, om de vrucht daarvan, en het goede daarvan te eten, zie, daarin zijn wij knechten. 37En het vermenigvuldigt zijn inkomste voor den koningen, die Gij over ons gesteld hebt, om onzer zonden wil; en zij heersen over onze lichamen en over onze beesten, naar hun welgevallen; alzo zijn wij in grote benauwdheid. 38En in dit alles maken wij een vast verbond en schrijven het; en onze vorsten, onze Levieten en onze priesteren zullen het verzegelen.
