1Sapagka't hindi ko ibig mga kapatid, na di ninyo maalaman, na ang ating mga magulang ay nangapasa ilalim ng alapaap, at ang lahat ay nagsitawid sa dagat; 2At lahat ay nangabautismuhan kay Moises sa alapaap at sa dagat; 3At lahat ay nagsikain ng isang pagkain ding ayon sa espiritu; 4At lahat ay nagsiinom ng isang inumin ding ayon sa espiritu; sapagka't nagsiinom sa batong ayon sa espiritu na sumunod sa kanila: at ang batong yaon ay si Cristo. 5Bagaman ang karamihan sa kanila ay hindi nakalugod sa Dios; sapagka't sila'y ibinuwal sa ilang. 6Ang mga bagay na ito nga'y pawang naging mga halimbawa sa atin, upang huwag tayong magsipagnasa ng mga bagay na masama na gaya naman nila na nagsipagnasa. 7Ni huwag din naman kayong mapagsamba sa mga diosdiosan, gaya niyaong ilan sa kanila; ayon sa nasusulat, Naupo ang bayan upang magsikain at magsiinom, at nagsitindig upang magsipagsayaw. 8Ni huwag din naman tayong makiapid, na gaya ng ilan sa kanila na nangakiapid, at ang nangabuwal sa isang araw ay dalawangpu at tatlong libo. 9Ni huwag din naman nating tuksuhin ang Panginoon, na gaya ng pagkatukso ng ilan sa kanila, at nangapahamak sa pamamagitan ng mga ahas. 10Ni huwag din kayong mangagbulongbulungan, na gaya ng ilan sa kanila na nangagbulungan, at nangapahamak sa pamamagitan ng mga mangwawasak. 11Ang mga bagay na ito nga'y nangyari sa kanila na pinakahalimbawa; at pawang nangasulat sa pagpapaalaala sa atin, na mga dinatnan ng katapusan ng mga panahon. 12Kaya't ang may akalang siya'y nakatayo, magingat na baka mabuwal. 13Hindi dumating sa inyo ang anomang tukso kundi yaong matitiis ng tao: datapuwa't tapat ang Dios, na hindi niya itutulot na kayo'y tuksuhin ng higit sa inyong makakaya; kundi kalakip din ng tukso ay gagawin naman ang paraan ng pagilag, upang ito'y inyong matiis. 14Kaya, mga minamahal ko, magsitakas kayo sa pagsamba sa diosdiosan. 15Ako'y nagsasalitang tulad sa marurunong; hatulan ninyo ang sinasabi ko. 16Ang saro ng pagpapala na ating pinagpapala, hindi baga siyang pakikipagkaisa ng dugo ni Cristo? Ang tinapay na ating pinagpuputolputol, hindi baga siyang pakikipagkaisa ng katawan ni Cristo? 17Bagaman tayo'y marami, ay iisa lamang tinapay, iisang katawan: sapagka't tayong lahat ay nakikibahagi sa isa lamang tinapay. 18Tingnan ninyo ang Israel na ayon sa laman: ang mga nagsisikain baga ng mga hain ay wala kayang pakikipagkaisa sa dambana? 19Ano ang aking sinasabi? na ang hain baga sa mga diosdiosan ay may kabuluhan? o ang diosdiosan ay may kabuluhan? 20Subali't sinasabi ko, na ang mga bagay na inihahain ng mga Gentil, ay kanilang inihahain sa mga demonio, at hindi sa Dios: at di ko ibig na kayo'y mangagkaroon ng pakikipagkaisa sa mga demonio. 21Hindi ninyo maiinuman ang saro ng Panginoon, at ang saro ng mga demonio: kayo'y hindi maaaring makisalo sa dulang ng Panginoon, at sa dulang ng mga demonio. 22O minumungkahi baga natin sa paninibugho ang Panginoon? tayo baga'y lalong malakas kay sa kaniya? 23Lahat ng mga bagay ay matuwid; nguni't hindi ang lahat ng mga bagay ay nararapat. Lahat ng mga bagay ay matuwid; nguni't hindi ang lahat ng mga bagay ay makapagpapatibay. 24Huwag hanapin ninoman ang sa kaniyang sarili, kundi ang ikabubuti ng kapuwa. 25Lahat ng ipinagbibili sa pamilihan ay kanin ninyo, at huwag kayong magsipagtanong ng anoman dahilan sa budhi; 26Sapagka't ang lupa ay sa Panginoon, at ang kabuuan ng naririto. 27Kung kayo'y aanyayahan ng isang hindi sumasampalataya, at ibig ninyong pumaroon; ang anomang ihain sa inyo ay kanin ninyo, at huwag kayong magsipagtanong ng anoman dahilan sa budhi. 28Datapuwa't kung sa inyo'y may magsabi, Ito'y inihandog na hain, ay huwag ninyong kanin, dahilan doon sa nagpahayag at dahilan sa budhi; 29Budhi, sinasabi ko, hindi ang inyong sarili, kundi ang sa iba; sapagka't bakit hahatulan ang kalayaan ng budhi ng iba? 30Kung nakikisalo ako na may pagpapasalamat, bakit ako'y aalipustain ng dahil sa aking ipinagpapasalamat? 31Kaya kung kayo'y nagsisikain man, o nagsisiinom man o anoman ang inyong ginagawa, gawin ninyo ang lahat sa ikaluluwalhati ng Dios. 32Huwag kayong magbigay ng dahilang ikatitisod, sa mga Judio man, sa mga Griego man, o sa iglesia man ng Dios: 33Na gaya ko din naman, na sa lahat ng mga bagay ay nagbibigay lugod ako sa lahat ng mga tao, na hindi ko hinahanap ang aking sariling kapakinabangan, kundi ang sa marami, upang sila'y mangaligtas.
1Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2and were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3and all ate the same spiritual food; 4and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ. 5However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 6Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 7Neither be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” 8Neither let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell. 9Neither let us test the Lord, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents. 10Neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer. 11Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come. 12Therefore let him who thinks he stands be careful that he doesn’t fall. 13No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 14Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 15I speak as to wise men. Judge what I say. 16The cup of blessing which we bless, isn’t it a sharing of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, isn’t it a sharing of the body of Christ? 17Because there is one loaf of bread, we, who are many, are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf of bread. 18Consider Israel according to the flesh. Don’t those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar? 19What am I saying then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? 20But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God, and I don’t desire that you would have fellowship with demons. 21You can’t both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can’t both partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons. 22Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he? 23“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are profitable. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things build up. 24Let no one seek his own, but each one his neighbor’s good. 25Whatever is sold in the butcher shop, eat, asking no question for the sake of conscience, 26for “the earth is the Lord’s, and its fullness.” 27But if one of those who don’t believe invites you to a meal, and you are inclined to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for the sake of conscience. 28But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” don’t eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience. For “the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.” 29Conscience, I say, not your own, but the other’s conscience. For why is my liberty judged by another conscience? 30If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced for that for which I give thanks? 31Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32Give no occasions for stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the assembly of God; 33even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.

Het brood, dat wij breken, is dat niet een gemeenschap des lichaams van Christus? 17Want een brood is het, zo zijn wij velen een lichaam, dewijl wij allen eens broods deelachtig zijn. 18Ziet Israel, dat naar het vlees is: hebben niet degenen, die de offeranden eten, gemeenschap met het altaar? 19Wat zeg ik dan? Dat een afgod iets is, of dat het afgodenoffer iets is? 20Ja, ik zeg, dat hetgeen de heidenen offeren, zij den duivelen offeren, en niet Gode; en ik wil niet, dat gij met de duivelen gemeenschap hebt. 21Gij kunt den drinkbeker des Heeren niet drinken, en den drinkbeker der duivelen; gij kunt niet deelachtig zijn aan de tafel des Heeren, en aan de tafel der duivelen. 22Of tergen wij den Heere? Zijn wij sterker dan Hij? 23Alle dingen zijn mij geoorloofd, maar alle dingen zijn niet oorbaar; alle dingen zijn mij geoorloofd, maar alle dingen stichten niet. 24Niemand zoeke dat zijns zelfs is; maar een iegelijk zoeke dat des anderen is. 25Eet al wat in het vleeshuis verkocht wordt, niets ondervragende, om des gewetens wil; 26Want de aarde is des Heeren, en de volheid derzelve. 27En indien u iemand van de ongelovigen noodt, en gij daar gaan wilt, eet al wat ulieden voorgesteld wordt, niets ondervragende, om des gewetens wil. 28Maar zo iemand tot ulieden zegt: Dat is afgodenoffer; eet het niet, om desgenen wil, die u dat te kennen gegeven heeft, en om des gewetens wil. Want de aarde is des Heeren, en de volheid derzelve. 29Doch ik zeg: om het geweten, niet van uzelven, maar des anderen; want waarom wordt mijn vrijheid geoordeeld van een ander geweten? 30En indien ik door genade der spijze deelachtig ben, waarom word ik gelasterd over hetgeen, waarvoor ik dankzeg? 31Hetzij dan dat gijlieden eet, hetzij dat gij drinkt, hetzij dat gij iets anders doet, doet het al ter ere Gods. 32Weest zonder aanstoot te geven, en den Joden, en den Grieken, en der Gemeente Gods. 33Gelijkerwijs ik ook in alles allen behaag, niet zoekende mijn eigen voordeel, maar het voordeel van velen, opdat zij mochten behouden worden.
