1Porém Jericó estava fechada, bem fechada, por causa dos filhos de Israel: ninguém entrava, nem saía. 2Mas o SENHOR disse a Josué: Olha, eu entreguei em tua mão a Jericó e a seu rei, com seus homens de guerra. 3Cercareis, pois, a cidade todos os homens de guerra, indo ao redor da cidade uma vez: e isto fareis seis dias. 4E sete sacerdotes levarão sete trombetas de chifres de carneiros diante da arca; e ao sétimo dia dareis sete voltas à cidade, e os sacerdotes tocarão as trombetas. 5E quando tocarem prolongadamente a trombeta de carneiro, assim que ouvirdes o som da trombeta, todo aquele povo gritará a grande voz, e o muro da cidade cairá debaixo de si: então o povo subirá cada um em frente de si. 6E chamando Josué filho de Num aos sacerdotes, lhes disse: Levai a arca do pacto, e sete sacerdotes levem trombetas de chifres de carneiros diante da arca do SENHOR. 7E disse ao povo: Passai, e rodeai a cidade; e os que estão armados passarão diante da arca do SENHOR. 8E assim que Josué falou ao povo, os sete sacerdotes, levando as sete trombetas de chifres de carneiros, passaram diante da arca do SENHOR, e tocaram as trombetas: e a arca do pacto do SENHOR os seguia. 9E os homens armados iam diante dos sacerdotes que tocavam as trombetas, e a gente reunida ia detrás da arca, andando e tocando trombetas. 10E Josué mandou ao povo, dizendo: Vós não dareis grito, nem se ouvirá vossa voz, nem sairá palavra de vossa boca, até o dia que eu vos diga: Gritai: então dareis grito. 11Então a arca do SENHOR deu uma volta ao redor da cidade, e vieram-se ao acampamento, no qual tiveram a noite. 12E Josué se levantou de manhã, e os sacerdotes tomaram a arca do SENHOR. 13E os sete sacerdotes, levando as sete trombetas de chifres de carneiros, foram diante da arca do SENHOR, andando sempre e tocando as trombetas; e os armados iam diante deles, e a gente reunida ia detrás da arca do SENHOR, andando e tocando l 14Assim deram outra volta à cidade o segundo dia, e voltaram ao acampamento: desta maneira fizeram por seis dias. 15E ao sétimo dia levantaram-se quando subia a alva, e deram volta à cidade da mesma maneira sete vezes: somente este dia deram volta ao redor dela sete vezes. 16E quando os sacerdotes tocaram as trombetas pela sétima vez, Josué disse ao povo: Dai grito, porque o SENHOR vos entregou a cidade. 17Mas a cidade será anátema ao SENHOR, ela com todas as coisas que estão nela: somente Raabe a prostituta viverá, com todos os que estiverem em casa com ela, porquanto escondeu os mensageiros que enviamos. 18Porém guardai-vos vós do anátema, que nem toqueis, nem tomeis alguma coisa do anátema, porque não façais anátema o acampamento de Israel, e o perturbeis. 19Mas toda a prata, e o ouro, e vasos de bronze e de ferro, seja consagrado ao SENHOR, e venha ao tesouro do SENHOR. 20Então o povo deu grito, e os sacerdotes tocaram as trombetas: e aconteceu que quando o povo ouviu o som da trombeta, deu o povo grito com grande barulho, e o muro caiu verticalmente. O povo subiu logo à cidade, cada um em frente de si, e tomaram-na. 21E destruíram tudo o que na cidade havia; homens e mulheres, moços e anciãos, até os bois, e ovelhas, e asnos, a fio de espada. 22Mas Josué disse aos dois homens que haviam reconhecido a terra: Entrai em casa da mulher prostituta, e fazei sair dali à mulher, e a tudo o que for seu, como o jurastes. 23E os rapazes espias entraram, e tiraram a Raabe, e a seu pai, e a sua mãe, e a seus irmãos, e todo o que era seu; e também tiraram a toda sua parentela, e puseram-nos fora do acampamento de Israel. 24E consumiram com fogo a cidade, e tudo o que nela havia: somente puseram no tesouro da casa do SENHOR a prata, e o ouro, e os vasos de bronze e de ferro. 25Mas Josué salvou a vida a Raabe a prostituta, e à casa de seu pai, e a tudo o que ela tinha: e habitou ela entre os israelitas até hoje; porquanto escondeu os mensageiros que Josué enviou a reconhecer a Jericó. 26E naquele tempo Josué lhes juramentou dizendo: Maldito diante do SENHOR o homem que se levantar e reedificar esta cidade de Jericó. Em seu primogênito lance seus alicerces, e em seu menor assente suas portas. 27Foi, pois, o SENHOR com Josué, e seu nome se divulgou por toda a terra.
1Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the children of Israel. No one went out, and no one came in. 2Yahweh said to Joshua, “Behold, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and the mighty men of valor. 3All your men of war shall march around the city, going around the city once. You shall do this six days. 4Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. On the seventh day, you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 5It shall be that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up every man straight before him.” 6Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before Yahweh’s ark.” 7They said to the people, “Advance! March around the city, and let the armed men pass on before Yahweh’s ark.” 8It was so, that when Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before Yahweh advanced, and blew the trumpets; and the ark of the covenant of Yahweh followed them. 9The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the ark went after them. The trumpets sounded as they went. 10Joshua commanded the people, saying, “You shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shall shout.” 11So he caused Yahweh’s ark to go around the city, going about it once. Then they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp. 12Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up Yahweh’s ark. 13The seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before Yahweh’s ark went on continually, and blew the trumpets: and the armed men went before them. The rear guard came after Yahweh’s ark. The trumpets sounded as they went. 14The second day they marched around the city once, and returned into the camp. They did this six days. 15On the seventh day, they rose early at the dawning of the day, and marched around the city in the same way seven times. Only on this day they marched around the city seven times. 16At the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, “Shout, for Yahweh has given you the city! 17The city shall be devoted, even it and all that is in it, to Yahweh. Only Rahab the prostitute shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. 18But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devoted thing, lest when you have devoted it, you take of the devoted thing; so would you make the camp of Israel accursed, and trouble it. 19But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are holy to Yahweh. They shall come into Yahweh’s treasury.” 20So the people shouted, and the priests blew the trumpets. When the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. 21They utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, and sheep, and donkey, with the edge of the sword. 22Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the prostitute’s house, and bring out from there the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her.” 23The young men who were spies went in, and brought out Rahab with her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. They also brought out all her relatives, and they set them outside of the camp of Israel. 24They burnt the city with fire, and all that was in it. Only they put the silver, the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron into the treasury of Yahweh’s house. 25But Rahab the prostitute, her father’s household, and all that she had, Joshua saved alive. She lived in the midst of Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers, whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho. 26Joshua commanded them with an oath at that time, saying, “Cursed is the man before Yahweh, who rises up and builds this city Jericho. With the loss of his firstborn shall he lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son shall he set up its gates.” 27So Yahweh was with Joshua; and his fame was in all the land.

Alzo deden zij zes dagen lang. 15En het geschiedde op den zevenden dag, dat zij zich vroeg opmaakten, met het opgaan des dageraads, en zij gingen rondom de stad, naar dezelve wijze, zevenmaal; alleenlijk op dien dag gingen zij zevenmaal rondom de stad. 16En het geschiedde ten zevenden male, als de priesters met de bazuinen bliezen, dat Jozua tot het volk sprak: Juicht, want de HEERE heeft ulieden de stad gegeven! 17Doch deze stad zal den HEERE verbannen zijn, zij en al wat daarin is; alleenlijk zal de hoer Rachab levend blijven, zij en allen, die met haar in het huis zijn, omdat zij de boden, die wij uitgezonden hadden, verborgen heeft. 18Alleenlijk dat gijlieden u wacht van het verbannene, opdat gij u misschien niet verbant, mits nemende van het verbannene, en het leger van Israel niet stelt tot een ban, noch datzelve beroert. 19Maar al het zilver en goud, en de koperen en ijzeren vaten, zullen den HEERE heilig zijn; tot den schat des HEEREN zullen zij komen. 20Het volk dan juichte, als zij met de bazuinen bliezen; en het geschiedde, als het volk het geluid der bazuin hoorde, zo juichte het volk met een groot gejuich; en de muur viel onder zich, en het volk klom in de stad, een ieder tegenover zich, en zij namen de stad in. 21En zij verbanden alles, wat in de stad was, van den man tot de vrouw toe, van het kind tot den oude, en tot den os, en het klein vee, en den ezel, door de scherpte des zwaards. 22Jozua nu zeide tot de twee mannen, de verspieders des lands: Gaat in het huis der vrouw, der hoer, en brengt die vrouw van daar uit, met al wat zij heeft, gelijk als gij haar gezworen hebt. 23Toen gingen de jongelingen, de verspieders, daarin en brachten er Rachab uit, en haar vader, en haar moeder, en haar broeders, en al wat zij had; ook brachten zij uit al haar huisgezinnen, en zij stelden hen buiten het leger van Israel. 24De stad nu verbrandden zij met vuur, en al wat daarin was; alleenlijk het zilver en goud, mitsgaders de koperen en ijzeren vaten, gaven zij tot den schat van het huis des HEEREN. 25Dus liet Jozua de hoer Rachab leven, en het huisgezin haars vaders, en al wat zij had; en zij heeft gewoond in het midden van Israel tot op dezen dag, omdat zij de boden verborgen had, die Jozua gezonden had, om Jericho te verspieden. 26En ter zelver tijd bezwoer hen Jozua, zeggende: Vervloekt zij die man voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, die zich opmaken en deze stad Jericho bouwen zal; dat hij ze grondveste op zijn eerstgeborenen zoon, en haar poorten stelle op zijn jongsten zoon! 27Alzo was de HEERE met Jozua; en zijn gerucht liep door het ganse land.
