1E teve também porção a tribo de Manassés, porque foi primogênito de José. Maquir, primogênito de Manassés, e pai de Gileade, o qual foi homem de guerra, teve a Gileade e a Basã. 2Tiveram também porção os outros filhos de Manassés conforme suas famílias: os filhos de Abiezer, e os filhos de Helebe, e os filhos de Asriel, e os filhos de Siquém, e os filhos de Héfer, e os filhos de Semida; estes foram os filhos homens de Manassés, filho de José, por suas famílias. 3Porém Zelofeade, filho de Héfer, filho de Gileade, filho de Maquir, filho de Manassés, não teve filhos, somente filhas, os nomes das quais são estes: Maalá, Noa, Hogla, Milca, e Tirza. 4Estas vieram diante de Eleazar sacerdote, e de Josué filho de Num, e dos príncipes, e disseram: O SENHOR mandou a Moisés que nos desse herança entre nossos irmãos. E ele lhes deu herança entre os irmãos do pai delas, conforme o dito do SENHOR. 5E caíram a Manassés dez porções a mais da terra de Gileade e de Basã, que está da outra parte do Jordão: 6Porque as filhas de Manassés possuíram herança entre seus filhos: e a terra de Gileade foi dos outros filhos de Manassés. 7E foi o termo de Manassés desde Aser até Micmetá, a qual está diante de Siquém; e vai este termo à direita, aos que habitam em Tapua. 8E a terra de Tapua foi de Manassés; mas Tapua, que está junto ao termo de Manassés, é dos filhos de Efraim. 9E desce este termo ao ribeiro de Caná, até o sul do ribeiro. Estas cidades de Efraim estão entre as cidades de Manassés: e o termo de Manassés é desde o norte do mesmo ribeiro, e suas saídas são ao mar. 10Efraim ao sul, e Manassés ao norte, e o mar é seu termo: e encontram-se com Aser à parte do norte, e com Issacar ao oriente. 11Teve também Manassés em Issacar e em Aser a Bete-Seã e suas aldeias, e Ibleão e suas aldeias, e os moradores de Dor e suas aldeias, e os moradores de En-Dor e suas aldeias, e os moradores de Taanaque e suas aldeias, e os moradores de Megido e suas aldeias: três províncias. 12Mas os filhos de Manassés não puderam lançar aos daquelas cidades; antes os cananeus quis habitar na terra. 13Porém quando os filhos de Israel tomaram forças, fizeram tributários aos cananeus, mas não o expulsaram. 14E os filhos de José falaram a Josué, dizendo: Por que me deste por herança uma só porção e uma só parte, sendo eu um povo tão grande e que o SENHOR me abençoou assim até agora? 15E Josué lhes respondeu: Se és povo tão grande, sobe tu ao monte, e corta para ti ali na terra do ferezeus e dos gigantes, pois que o monte de Efraim é estreito para ti. 16E os filhos de José disseram: Não nos bastará a nós este monte: e todos os cananeus que habitam a terra da campina, têm carros de ferro; os que estão em Bete-Seã e em suas aldeias, e os que estão no vale de Jezreel. 17Então Josué respondeu à casa de José, a Efraim e Manassés, dizendo: Tu és grande povo, e tens grande força; não terás uma só porção; 18Mas aquele monte será teu; porque é bosque, e tu o cortarás, e serão teus seus termos: porque tu expulsarás aos cananeus, ainda que tenham carros de ferro, e ainda que sejam fortes.
1This was the lot for the tribe of Manasseh, for he was the firstborn of Joseph. As for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan. 2So this was for the rest of the children of Manasseh according to their families: for the children of Abiezer, for the children of Helek, for the children of Asriel, for the children of Shechem, for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph according to their families. 3But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. 4They came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, “Yahweh commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers.” Therefore according to the commandment of Yahweh he gave them an inheritance among the brothers of their father. 5Ten parts fell to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is beyond the Jordan; 6because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons. The land of Gilead belonged to the rest of the sons of Manasseh. 7The border of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethath, which is before Shechem. The border went along to the right hand, to the inhabitants of En Tappuah. 8The land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh; but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim. 9The border went down to the brook of Kanah, southward of the brook. These cities belonged to Ephraim among the cities of Manasseh. The border of Manasseh was on the north side of the brook, and ended at the sea. 10Southward it was Ephraim’s, and northward it was Manasseh’s, and the sea was his border. They reached to Asher on the north, and to Issachar on the east. 11Manasseh had three heights in Issachar, in Asher Beth Shean and its towns, and Ibleam and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Endor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns. 12Yet the children of Manasseh couldn’t drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land. 13When the children of Israel had grown strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and didn’t utterly drive them out. 14The children of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, “Why have you given me just one lot and one part for an inheritance, since I am a great people, because Yahweh has blessed me so far?” 15Joshua said to them, “If you are a great people, go up to the forest, and clear land for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim; since the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you.” 16The children of Joseph said, “The hill country is not enough for us. All the Canaanites who dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both those who are in Beth Shean and its towns, and those who are in the valley of Jezreel.” 17Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, “You are a great people, and have great power. You shall not have one lot only; 18but the hill country shall be yours. Although it is a forest, you shall cut it down, and it’s farthest extent shall be yours; for you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong.”

Deze steden zijn van Efraim in het midden der steden van Manasse; en de landpale van Manasse is aan het noorden der beek, en haar uitgangen zijn aan de zee. 10Het was van Efraim tegen het zuiden, en tegen het noorden was het van Manasse, en de zee was zijn landpale; en aan het noorden stieten zij aan Aser, en aan het oosten aan Issaschar. 11Want Manasse had, in Issaschar en in Aser, Beth-Sean en haar onderhorige plaatsen, en Jibleam en haar onderhorige plaatsen, en de inwoners te Dor en haar onderhorige plaatsen, en de inwoners te En-Dor en haar onderhorige plaatsen, en de inwoners te Thaanach en haar onderhorige plaatsen, en de inwoners te Megiddo en haar onderhorige plaatsen: drie landstreken. 12En de kinderen van Manasse konden de inwoners van die steden niet verdrijven; want de Kanaanieten wilden in hetzelve land wonen. 13En het geschiedde, als de kinderen Israels sterk werden, zo maakten zij de Kanaanieten cijnsbaar; maar zij verdreven hen niet ganselijk. 14Toen spraken de kinderen van Jozef tot Jozua, zeggende: Waarom hebt gij mij ten erfdeel maar een lot en een snoer gegeven, daar ik toch een groot volk ben, voor zoveel de HEERE mij dus verre gezegend heeft? 15Jozua nu zeide tot henlieden: Dewijl gij een groot volk zijt, zo ga op naar het woud, en houw daar voor u af in het land der Ferezieten en der Refaieten, dewijl u het gebergte van Efraim te eng is. 16Toen zeiden de kinderen van Jozef: Dat gebergte zou ons niet genoegzaam zijn; er zijn ook ijzeren wagens bij alle Kanaanieten, die in het land des dals wonen, bij die te Beth-Sean en haar onderhorige plaatsen, en die in het dal van Jizreel zijn. 17Verder sprak Jozua tot het huis van Jozef, tot Efraim en tot Manasse, zeggende: Gij zijt een groot volk, en gij hebt grote kracht, gij zult geen een lot hebben; 18Maar het gebergte zal het uwe zijn; en dewijl het een woud is, zo houw het af, zo zullen zijn uitgangen de uwe zijn; want gij zult de Kanaanieten verdrijven, al hebben zij ijzeren wagens, al zijn zij sterk.
