1Ouvindo isto Jabim rei de Hazor, enviou mensagem a Jobabe rei de Madom, e ao rei de Sinrom, e ao rei de Acsafe, 2E aos reis que estavam à parte do norte nas montanhas, e na planície ao sul de Quinerete, e nas planícies, e nas regiões de Dor ao ocidente; 3E aos cananeus que estava ao oriente e ao ocidente, e aos amorreus, e ao Heteu, e aos perizeus, e aos jebuseus nas montanhas, e aos heveus debaixo de Hermom em terra de Mispá. 4Estes saíram, e com eles todos os seus exércitos, povo muito em grande maneira, como a areia que está à beira do mar, com grande multidão de cavalos e carros. 5Todos estes reis se juntaram, e vindo reuniram os acampamentos junto às águas de Merom, para lutar contra Israel. 6Mas o SENHOR disse a Josué: Não tenhas medo deles, que amanhã a esta hora eu entregarei a todos estes, mortos diante de Israel: a seus cavalos aleijarás, e seus carros queimarás ao fogo. 7E veio Josué, e com ele todo aquele povo de guerra, contra eles, e deu de repente sobre eles junto às águas de Merom. 8E entregou-os o SENHOR em mãos de Israel, os quais os feriram e seguiram até a grande Sidom, e até as águas quentes, e até a planície de Mispá ao oriente, ferindo-os até que não lhes deixaram ninguém. 9E Josué fez com eles como o SENHOR lhe havia mandado: aleijou seus cavalos, e seus carros queimou ao fogo. 10E voltando-se Josué, tomou no mesmo tempo a Hazor, e feriu à espada a seu rei: a qual Hazor havia sido antes cabeça de todos estes reinos. 11E feriram à espada todo quanto nela havia vivo, destruindo e não deixando coisa com vida; e a Hazor puseram a fogo. 12Também tomou Josué todas as cidades destes reis, e a todos os reis delas, e os meteu à espada, e os destruiu, como Moisés servo do SENHOR o havia mandado. 13Porém todas as cidades que estavam em suas colinas, não as queimou Israel, tirando a só Hazor, a qual queimou Josué. 14E os filhos de Israel tomaram para si todos os despojos e animais daquelas cidades: mas a todos os homens feriram à espada até destruí-los, sem deixar alguém com vida. 15Da maneira que o SENHOR o havia mandado a Moisés seu servo, assim Moisés o mandou a Josué: e assim Josué o fez, sem tirar palavra de tudo o que o SENHOR havia mandado a Moisés. 16Tomou, pois, Josué toda aquela terra, as montanhas, e toda a região do sul, e toda a terra de Gósen, e os terrenos baixos e as planícies, e a região montanhosa de Israel e seus vales. 17Desde o monte de Halaque, que sobe até Seir, até Baal-Gade na planície do Líbano, às raízes do monte Hermom: tomou também todos os seus reis, os quais feriu e matou. 18Por muitos dias teve guerra Josué com estes reis. 19Não houve cidade que fizesse paz com os filhos de Israel, a não ser os heveus, que moravam em Gibeão: tudo o tomaram por guerra. 20Porque isto veio do SENHOR, que endurecia o coração deles para que resistissem com guerra a Israel, para destruí-los, e que não lhes fosse feita misericórdia, antes fossem desarraigados, como o SENHOR o havia mandado a Moisés. 21Também no mesmo tempo veio Josué e destruiu os anaquins dos montes, de Hebrom, de Debir, e de Anabe, e de todos os montes de Judá, e de todos os montes de Israel: Josué os destruiu a eles e a suas cidades. 22Nenhum dos anaquins restou na terra dos filhos de Israel; somente restaram em Gaza, em Gate, e em Asdode. 23Tomou, pois, Josué toda a terra, conforme todo o que o SENHOR havia dito a Moisés; e entregou-a Josué aos israelitas por herança, conforme suas repartições de suas tribos: e a terra repousou de guerra.
1When Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph, 2and to the kings who were on the north, in the hill country, in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor on the west, 3to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah. 4They went out, they and all their armies with them, many people, even as the sand that is on the seashore in multitude, with very many horses and chariots. 5All these kings met together; and they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel. 6Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t be afraid because of them; for tomorrow at this time, I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.” 7So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fell on them. 8Yahweh delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they struck them, and chased them to great Sidon, and to Misrephoth Maim, and to the valley of Mizpah eastward. They struck them until they left them no one remaining. 9Joshua did to them as Yahweh told him. He hamstrung their horses and burnt their chariots with fire. 10Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and struck its king with the sword: for Hazor used to be the head of all those kingdoms. 11They struck all the souls who were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them. There was no one left who breathed. He burnt Hazor with fire. 12Joshua captured all the cities of those kings, with their kings, and he struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded. 13But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, except Hazor only. Joshua burned that. 14The children of Israel took all the plunder of these cities, with the livestock, as plunder for themselves; but every man they struck with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them. They didn’t leave any who breathed. 15As Yahweh commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua. Joshua did so. He left nothing undone of all that Yahweh commanded Moses. 16So Joshua captured all that land, the hill country, all the South, all the land of Goshen, the lowland, the Arabah, the hill country of Israel, and the lowland of the same; 17from Mount Halak, that goes up to Seir, even to Baal Gad in the valley of Lebanon under Mount Hermon. He took all their kings, struck them, and put them to death. 18Joshua made war a long time with all those kings. 19There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took all in battle. 20For it was of Yahweh to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Yahweh commanded Moses. 21Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel: Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities. 22There were none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel. Only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain. 23So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Yahweh spoke to Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. The land had rest from war.
1Het geschiedde daarna, als Jabin, de koning van Hazor, dit hoorde, zo zond hij tot Jobab, den koning van Madon, en tot den koning van Simron, en tot den koning van Achsaf, 2En tot de koningen, die tegen het noorden op het gebergte, en op het vlakke, tegen het zuiden van Cinneroth, en in de laagte, en in Nafoth-Dor, aan de zee waren; 3Tot de Kanaanieten tegen het oosten en tegen het westen, en de Amorieten, en de Hethieten, en de Ferezieten; en de Jebusieten op het gebergte, en de Hevieten onder aan Hermon, in het land van Mizpa. 4Dezen nu togen uit, en al hun heirlegers met hen; veel volks, als het zand, dat aan den oever der zee is, in veelheid; en zeer vele paarden en wagens. 5Al deze koningen werden vergaderd, en kwamen en legerden zich samen aan de wateren van Merom, om tegen Israel te krijgen. 6En de HEERE zeide tot Jozua: Vrees niet voor hun aangezichten; want morgen omtrent dezen tijd zal Ik hen altegader verslagen geven voor het aangezicht van Israel; hun paarden zult gij verlammen, en hun wagenen met vuur verbranden. 7En Jozua, en al het krijgsvolk met hem, kwam snellijk over hen aan de wateren van Merom, en zij overvielen hen. 8En de HEERE gaf hen in de hand van Israel, en zij sloegen hen, en joegen hen na tot groot Sidon toe, en tot Misrefoth-maim, en tot het dal Mizpa tegen het oosten; en zij sloegen hen, totdat zij geen overigen onder hen overlieten. 9Jozua nu deed hun, gelijk hem de HEERE gezegd had; hun paarden verlamde hij, en hun wagenen verbrandde hij met vuur. 10En Jozua keerde weder ter zelver tijd, en hij nam Hazor in, en haar koning sloeg hij met het zwaard; want Hazor was te voren het hoofd van al deze koninkrijken. 11En zij sloegen alle ziel, die daarin was, met de scherpte des zwaards, die verbannende; er bleef niets over, dat adem had; en Hazor verbrandde hij met vuur. 12En Jozua nam al de steden dezer koningen in, en al haar koningen, en hij sloeg hen met de scherpte des zwaards, hen verbannende, gelijk als Mozes, de knecht des HEEREN geboden had. 13Alleenlijk verbrandden de Israelieten geen steden, die op haar heuvelen stonden, behalve Hazor alleen; dat verbrandde Jozua. 14En al den roof dezer steden, en het vee, roofden de kinderen Israels voor zich; alleenlijk sloegen zij al de mensen met de scherpte des zwaards, totdat zij hen verdelgden; zij lieten niet overblijven wat adem had. 15Gelijk als de HEERE Mozes, Zijn knecht, geboden had, alzo gebood Mozes aan Jozua; en alzo deed Jozua; hij deed er niet een woord af van alles, wat de HEERE Mozes geboden had. 16Alzo nam Jozua al dat land in, het gebergte, en al het zuiden, en al het land van Gosen, en de laagte, en het vlakke veld, en het gebergte Israels, en zijn laagte. 17Van den kalen berg, die opwaarts naar Seir gaat, tot Baal-Gad toe, in het dal van den Libanon, onder aan den berg Hermon; al hun koningen nam hij ook, en sloeg hen, en doodde hen. 18Vele dagen voerde Jozua krijg tegen al deze koningen. 19Er was geen stad, die vrede maakte met de kinderen Israels, behalve de Hevieten, inwoners van Gibeon; zij namen ze allen in door krijg. 20Want het was van den HEERE, hun harten te verstokken, dat zij Israel met oorlog tegemoet gingen, opdat hij hen verbannen zoude, dat hun geen genade geschiedde, maar opdat hij hen verdelgen zoude, gelijk als de HEERE Mozes geboden had. 21Te dier tijde nu kwam Jozua, en roeide de Enakieten uit, van het gebergte, van Hebron, van Debir, van Anab, en van het ganse gebergte van Juda, en van het ganse gebergte van Israel; Jozua verbande hen met hun steden. 22Er bleef niemand van de Enakieten over in het land der kinderen Israels; alleenlijk bleven zij over te Gaza, te Gath, en te Asdod. 23Alzo nam Jozua al dat land in, naar alles, wat de HEERE tot Mozes gesproken had; en Jozua gaf het Israel ten erve, naar hun afdelingen, naar hun stammen. En het land rustte van den krijg.
