1E falou o SENHOR a Moisés, dizendo: 2Fala aos filhos de Israel que deem a volta, e assentem seu acampamento diante de Pi-Hairote, entre Migdol e o mar até Baal-Zefom: diante dele assentareis o campo, junto ao mar. 3Porque Faraó dirá dos filhos de Israel: Estão andando confusos na terra, o deserto os encurralou. 4E eu endurecerei o coração de Faraó para que os siga; e serei glorificado em Faraó e em todo o seu exército; e saberão os egípcios que eu sou o SENHOR. E eles o fizeram assim. 5E foi dado aviso ao rei do Egito como o povo se fugia: e o coração de Faraó e de seus servos se voltou contra o povo, e disseram: Como fizemos isto de haver deixado ir a Israel, para que não nos sirva? 6E preparou seu carro, e tomou consigo seu povo; 7e tomou seiscentos carros escolhidos, e todos os carros do Egito, e os capitães sobre eles. 8E endureceu o SENHOR o coração de Faraó rei do Egito, e seguiu aos filhos de Israel; mas os filhos de Israel haviam saído com mão poderosa. 9Seguindo-os, pois, os egípcios, com toda a cavalaria e carros de Faraó, seus cavaleiros, e todo seu exército, alcançaram-nos assentando o acampamento junto ao mar, ao lado de Pi-Hairote, diante de Baal-Zefom. 10E quando Faraó se aproximou, os filhos de Israel levantaram seus olhos, e eis que os egípcios vinham atrás deles; por isso temeram muito, e os filhos de Israel clamaram ao SENHOR. 11E disseram a Moisés: Não havia sepulcros no Egito, que nos tiraste para morrermos no deserto? Por que o fizeste assim conosco, que nos tiraste do Egito? 12Não é isto o que te falamos no Egito, dizendo: Deixa-nos servir aos egípcios? Pois melhor nos teria sido servir aos egípcios, que morrermos no deserto. 13E Moisés disse ao povo: Não temais; ficai quietos, e vede a salvação do SENHOR, que ele fará hoje convosco; porque os egípcios que hoje vistes, nunca mais para sempre os vereis. 14O SENHOR lutará por vós, e vós ficai quietos. 15Então o SENHOR disse a Moisés: Por que clamas a mim? Diz aos filhos de Israel que marchem. 16E tu ergue tua vara, e estende tua mão sobre o mar, e divide-o; e entrem os filhos de Israel por meio do mar em seco. 17E eu, eis que eu endurecerei o coração dos egípcios, para que os sigam: e eu me glorificarei em Faraó, e em todo o seu exército, e em seus carros, e em sua cavalaria; 18E saberão os egípcios que eu sou o SENHOR, quando eu me glorificar em Faraó, em seus carros, e em seus cavaleiros. 19E o anjo de Deus que ia diante do acampamento de Israel, se separou, e ia após eles; e também a coluna de nuvem que ia diante deles, se separou, e pôs-se a suas costas: 20E ia entre o acampamento dos egípcios e o acampamento de Israel; e era nuvem e trevas para aqueles, e iluminava a Israel de noite: e em toda aquela noite nunca chegaram os uns aos outros. 21E estendeu Moisés sua mão sobre o mar, e fez o SENHOR que o mar se retirasse por forte vento oriental toda aquela noite; e tornou o mar em seco, e as águas restaram divididas. 22Então os filhos de Israel entraram por meio do mar em seco, tendo as águas como muro à sua direita e à sua esquerda; 23E seguindo-os os egípcios, entraram atrás deles até o meio do mar, toda a cavalaria de Faraó, seus carros, e seus cavaleiros. 24E aconteceu à vigília da manhã, que o SENHOR olhou ao campo dos egípcios desde a coluna de fogo e nuvem, e perturbou o acampamento dos egípcios. 25E tirou-lhes as rodas de seus carros, e transtornou-os gravemente. Então os egípcios disseram: Fujamos de diante de Israel, porque o SENHOR luta por eles contra os egípcios. 26E o SENHOR disse a Moisés: Estende tua mão sobre o mar, para que as águas voltem sobre os egípcios, sobre seus carros, e sobre sua cavalaria. 27E Moisés estendeu sua mão sobre o mar, e o mar se voltou em sua força quando amanhecia; e os egípcios iam até ela: e o SENHOR derrubou aos egípcios em meio do mar. 28E voltaram as águas, e cobriram os carros e a cavalaria, e todo o exército de Faraó que havia entrado atrás eles no mar; não restou deles nenhum. 29E os filhos de Israel foram por meio do mar em seco, tendo as águas por muro à sua direita e à sua esquerda. 30Assim salvou o SENHOR aquele dia a Israel da mão dos egípcios; e Israel viu aos egípcios mortos à beira do mar. 31E viu Israel aquele grande feito que o SENHOR executou contra os egípcios: e o povo temeu ao SENHOR, e creram no SENHOR e em Moisés seu servo.
1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2“Speak to the children of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal Zephon. You shall encamp opposite it by the sea. 3Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, ‘They are entangled in the land. The wilderness has shut them in.’ 4I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will follow after them; and I will get honor over Pharaoh, and over all his armies; and the Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh.” They did so. 5It was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled; and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was changed towards the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?” 6He prepared his chariot, and took his army with him; 7and he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over all of them. 8Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel; for the children of Israel went out with a high hand. 9The Egyptians pursued after them: all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen, and his army; and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baal Zephon. 10When Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were very afraid. The children of Israel cried out to Yahweh. 11They said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you treated us this way, to bring us out of Egypt? 12Isn’t this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, ‘Leave us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians?’ For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.” 13Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will work for you today: for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall never see them again. 14Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still.” 15Yahweh said to Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Speak to the children of Israel, that they go forward. 16Lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go into the midst of the sea on dry ground. 17Behold, I myself will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall go in after them: and I will get myself honor over Pharaoh, and over all his armies, over his chariots, and over his horsemen. 18The Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh, when I have gotten myself honor over Pharaoh, over his chariots, and over his horsemen.” 19The angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them, and stood behind them. 20It came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness, yet gave it light by night: and the one didn’t come near the other all the night. 21Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all the night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22The children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. 23The Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the midst of the sea: all of Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. 24In the morning watch, Yahweh looked out on the Egyptian army through the pillar of fire and of cloud, and confused the Egyptian army. 25He took off their chariot wheels, and they drove them heavily; so that the Egyptians said, “Let’s flee from the face of Israel, for Yahweh fights for them against the Egyptians!” 26Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again on the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.” 27Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it. Yahweh overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 28The waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all Pharaoh’s army that went in after them into the sea. There remained not so much as one of them. 29But the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. 30Thus Yahweh saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31Israel saw the great work which Yahweh did to the Egyptians, and the people feared Yahweh; and they believed in Yahweh, and in his servant Moses.

Want het ware ons beter geweest de Egyptenaren te dienen, dan in deze woestijn te sterven. 13Doch Mozes zeide tot het volk: Vreest niet, staat vast, en ziet het heil des HEEREN, dat Hij heden aan ulieden doen zal, want de Egyptenaars, die gij heden gezien hebt, zult gij niet weder zien in eeuwigheid. 14De HEERE zal voor ulieden strijden, en gij zult stil zijn. 15Toen zeide de HEERE tot Mozes: Wat roept gij tot Mij? Toen zeiden de Egyptenaars: Laat ons vlieden van het aangezicht van Israel, want de HEERE strijdt voor hen tegen de Egyptenaars. 26En de HEERE zeide tot Mozes: Strek uw hand uit over de zee, dat de wateren wederkeren over de Egyptenaars, over hun wagenen en over hun ruiters. 27Toen strekte Mozes zijn hand uit over de zee; en de zee kwam weder, tegen het naken van den morgenstond, tot haar kracht; en de Egyptenaars vluchtten die tegemoet; en de HEERE stortte de Egyptenaars in het midden der zee. 28Want als de wateren wederkeerden, zo bedekten zij de wagenen en de ruiters van het ganse heir van Farao, dat hen nagevolgd was in de zee; er bleef niet een van hen over. 29Maar de kinderen Israels gingen op het droge, in het midden der zee; en de wateren waren hun een muur, aan hun rechter hand en aan hun linkerhand. 30Alzo verloste de HEERE Israel aan dien dag uit de hand der Egyptenaren; en Israel zag de Egyptenaren dood aan den oever der zee. 31Ook zag Israel de grote hand, die de HEERE aan de Egyptenaren bewezen had; en het volk vreesde den HEERE, en geloofde in den HEERE, en aan Mozes, Zijn knecht.
