Sofonia 1

1La parola dell’Eterno che fu rivolta a Sofonia, figliuolo di Cusci, figliuolo di Ghedalia, figliuolo d’Amaria, figliuolo d’Ezechia, ai giorni di Giosia, figliuolo d’Amon, re di Giuda. 2Io farò del tutto perire ogni cosa di sulla faccia della terra, dice l’Eterno. 3Farò perire uomini e bestie; farò perire uccelli del cielo e pesci del mare, le cause d’intoppo assieme con gli empi, e sterminerò gli uomini di sulla faccia della terra, dice l’Eterno. 4E stenderò la mano su Giuda e su tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme; e sterminerò da questo luogo i resti di Baal, il nome dei preti degli idoli, coi sacerdoti, 5e quelli che si prostrano sui tetti davanti all’esercito celeste, e quelli che si prostrano prestando giuramento all’Eterno, e prestando giuramento anche a Malcom, 6e quelli che si ritraggono dall’Eterno, e quelli che non cercano l’Eterno e non lo consultano. 7Silenzio, davanti al Signore, all’Eterno! Poiché il giorno dell’Eterno è vicino, poiché l’Eterno ha preparato un sacrifizio, ha santificato i suoi convitati. 8E, nel giorno del sacrifizio dell’Eterno, avverrà che io punirò tutti i principi e i figliuoli del re, e tutti quelli che indossano vesti straniere. 9In quel giorno, punirò tutti quelli che saltano sopra la soglia, che riempion di violenza e di frode le case dei loro signori. 10In quel giorno, dice l’Eterno, s’udrà un grido dalla porta dei pesci, un urlo dalla seconda cinta, e un gran fracasso dalle colline. 11Urlate, o abitanti del mortaio! poiché tutto il popolo de’ mercanti è annientato, tutti quelli ch’eran carichi di danaro sono sterminati. 12E in quel tempo avverrà che io frugherò Gerusalemme con delle torce, e punirò gli uomini che, immobili sulle loro fecce, dicon in cuor loro: "l’Eterno non fa né ben né male". 13Le loro ricchezze saranno abbandonate al saccheggio, e le loro case ridotte in una desolazione; essi avranno costruito delle case, ma non le abiteranno; avran piantato delle vigne, ma non ne berranno il vino. 14Il gran giorno dell’Eterno è vicino; è vicino, e viene in gran fretta; s’ode venire il giorno dell’Eterno e il più valoroso grida amaramente. 15Quel giorno è un giorno d’ira, un giorno di distretta e d’angoscia, un giorno di rovina e di desolazione, un giorno di tenebre e caligine, un giorno di nuvole e di fitta oscurità, 16un giorno di suon di tromba e d’allarme contro le città fortificate e le alte torri. 17E io metterò gli uomini nella distretta, ed essi cammineranno come ciechi, perché han peccato contro l’Eterno; e il loro sangue sarà sparso come polvere, e la loro carne come escrementi. 18Né il loro argento né il loro oro li potrà liberare nel giorno dell’ira dell’Eterno; ma tutto il paese sarà divorato dal fuoco della sua gelosia; giacché egli farà una totale, una subitanea distruzione di tutti gli abitanti del paese.

1Yahweh’s word which came to Zephaniah, the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah, the son of Amon, king of Judah. 2I will utterly sweep away everything off of the surface of the earth, says Yahweh. 3I will sweep away man and animal. I will sweep away the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and the heaps of rubble with the wicked. I will cut off man from the surface of the earth, says Yahweh. 4I will stretch out my hand against Judah, and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place: the name of the idolatrous and pagan priests, 5those who worship the army of the sky on the housetops, those who worship and swear by Yahweh and also swear by Malcam, 6those who have turned back from following Yahweh, and those who haven’t sought Yahweh nor inquired after him. 7Be silent at the presence of the Lord Yahweh, for the day of Yahweh is at hand. For Yahweh has prepared a sacrifice. He has consecrated his guests. 8It will happen in the day of Yahweh’s sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, the king’s sons, and all those who are clothed with foreign clothing. 9In that day, I will punish all those who leap over the threshold, who fill their master’s house with violence and deceit. 10In that day, says Yahweh, there will be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, a wailing from the second quarter, and a great crashing from the hills. 11Wail, you inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the people of Canaan are undone! All those who were loaded with silver are cut off. 12It will happen at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are settled on their dregs, who say in their heart, “Yahweh will not do good, neither will he do evil.” 13Their wealth will become a plunder, and their houses a desolation. Yes, they will build houses, but won’t inhabit them. They will plant vineyards, but won’t drink their wine. 14The great day of Yahweh is near. It is near, and hurries greatly, the voice of the day of Yahweh. The mighty man cries there bitterly. 15That day is a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, 16a day of the trumpet and alarm, against the fortified cities, and against the high battlements. 17I will bring distress on men, that they will walk like blind men, because they have sinned against Yahweh, and their blood will be poured out like dust, and their flesh like dung. 18Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of Yahweh’s wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land.

1Het woord des HEEREN, hetwelk geschied is tot Zefanja, den zoon van Cuschi, den zoon van Gedalja, den zoon van Amarja, den zoon van Hizkia; in de dagen van Josia, den zoon van Amon, den koning van Juda. 2Ik zal ganselijk alles wegrapen uit dit land, spreekt de HEERE. 3Ik zal wegrapen mensen en beesten; Ik zal wegrapen de vogelen des hemels, en de vissen der zee, en de ergernissen met de goddelozen; ja, Ik zal de mensen uit dit land uitroeien, spreekt de HEERE. 4En Ik zal Mijn hand uitstrekken tegen Juda, en tegen alle inwoners van Jeruzalem; en Ik zal uit deze plaats uitroeien het overblijfsel van Baal, en den naam der Chemarim met de priesters; 5En die zich nederbuigen op de daken voor het heir des hemels, en die zich nederbuigende zweren bij den HEERE, en zweren bij Malcham; 6En die terugkeren van achter den HEERE; en die den HEERE niet zoeken, en vragen naar Hem niet. 7Zwijgt voor het aangezicht des Heeren HEEREN; want de dag des HEEREN is nabij; want de HEERE heeft een slachtoffer bereid, Hij heeft Zijn genoden geheiligd. 8En het zal geschieden in den dag van het slachtoffer des HEEREN, dat Ik bezoeking zal doen over de vorsten, en over de kinderen des konings, en over allen, die zich kleden met vreemde kleding. 9Ook zal Ik ten zelven dage bezoeking doen over al wie over den dorpel springt; die het huis hunner heren vullen met geweld en bedrog. 10En er zal te dien dage, spreekt de HEERE, een stem des gekrijts zijn van de Vispoort af, en een gehuil van het tweede gedeelte, en een grote breuk van de heuvelen af. 11Huilt, gij inwoners der laagte! Want al het volk van koophandel is uitgehouwen, al de gelddragers zijn uitgeroeid. 12En het zal geschieden te dien tijde, Ik zal Jeruzalem met lantaarnen doorzoeken; en Ik zal bezoeking doen over de mannen, die stijf geworden zijn op hun droesem, die in hun hart zeggen: De HEERE doet geen goed, en Hij doet geen kwaad. 13Daarom zal hun vermogen ten roof worden, en hun huizen tot verwoesting; zij bouwen wel huizen, maar zij zullen ze niet bewonen; en zij planten wijngaarden, maar zij zullen derzelver wijn niet drinken. 14De grote dag des HEEREN is nabij; hij is nabij, en zeer haastende; de stem van den dag des HEEREN; de held zal aldaar bitterlijk schreeuwen. 15Die dag zal een dag der verbolgenheid zijn; een dag der benauwdheid en des angstes, een dag der woestheid en verwoesting, een dag der duisternis en der donkerheid, een dag der wolk en der dikke donkerheid; 16Een dag der bazuin en des geklanks tegen de vaste steden en tegen de hoge hoeken. 17En Ik zal de mensen bang maken, dat zij zullen gaan als de blinden; want zij hebben tegen den HEERE gezondigd; en hun bloed zal vergoten worden als stof, en hun vlees zal worden als drek. 18Noch hun zilver, noch hun goud zal hen kunnen redden ten dage der verbolgenheid des HEEREN; maar door het vuur Zijns ijvers zal dit ganse land verteerd worden; want Hij zal een voleinding maken, gewisselijk, een haastige, met al de inwoners dezes lands.
