1(H12-2) Efraim si pasce di vento e va dietro al vento d’oriente; ogni giorno moltiplica le menzogna e le violenze; fa alleanza con l’Assiria, e porta dell’olio in Egitto. 2(H12-3) L’Eterno è anche in lite con Giuda, e punirà Giacobbe per la sua condotta, gli renderà secondo le sue opere. 3(H12-4) Nel seno materno egli prese il fratello per il calcagno, e, nel suo vigore, lottò con Dio; 4(H12-5) lottò con l’angelo, e restò vincitore; egli pianse e lo supplicò. A Bethel lo trovò, e quivi egli parlò con noi. 5(H12-6) Or l’Eterno è l’Iddio degli eserciti; il suo nome è l’Eterno 6(H12-7) Tu, dunque, torna al tuo Dio, pratica la misericordia e la giustizia, e spera sempre nel tuo Dio. 7(H12-8) Efraim è un Cananeo che tiene in mano bilance false; egli ama estorcere. 8(H12-9) Efraim dice: "E’ vero, io mi sono arricchito, mi sono acquistato de’ beni; però, in tutti i frutti delle mie fatiche non si troverà alcuna mia iniquità, alcunché di peccaminoso". 9(H12-10) Ma io sono l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, fin dal paese d’Egitto: io ti farò ancora abitare in tende, come nei giorni di solennità. 10(H12-11) Ed ho parlato hai profeti, ho moltiplicato le visioni, e per mezzo de’ profeti ha proposto parabole. 11(H12-12) Se Galaad è vanità, sarà ridotto in nulla. A Ghilgal immolano buoi; così i loro altari saran come mucchi di pietre sui solchi dei campi. 12(H12-13) Giacobbe fuggì nella pianura d’Aram, e Israele servì per una moglie, e per una moglie si fe’ guardiano di greggi. 13(H12-14) Mediante un profeta, l’Eterno trasse Israele fuori d’Egitto; e Israele fu custodito da un profeta. 14(H12-15) Efraim ha provocato amaramente il suo Signore; perciò questi gli farà ricadere addosso il sangue che ha versato; e farà tornare su lui i suoi obbrobri.
1Ephraim feeds on wind, and chases the east wind. He continually multiplies lies and desolation. They make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt. 2Yahweh also has a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his deeds he will repay him. 3In the womb he took his brother by the heel; and in his manhood he contended with God. 4Indeed, he struggled with the angel, and prevailed; he wept, and made supplication to him. He found him at Bethel, and there he spoke with us, 5even Yahweh, the God of Armies; Yahweh is his name of renown! 6Therefore turn to your God. Keep kindness and justice, and wait continually for your God. 7A merchant has dishonest scales in his hand. He loves to defraud. 8Ephraim said, “Surely I have become rich, I have found myself wealth. In all my wealth they won’t find in me any iniquity that is sin.” 9“But I am Yahweh your God from the land of Egypt. I will yet again make you dwell in tents, as in the days of the solemn feast. 10I have also spoken to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and by the ministry of the prophets I have used parables. 11If Gilead is wicked, surely they are worthless. In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls. Indeed, their altars are like heaps in the furrows of the field. 12Jacob fled into the country of Aram, and Israel served to get a wife, and for a wife he tended flocks and herds. 13By a prophet Yahweh brought Israel up out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved. 14Ephraim has bitterly provoked anger. Therefore his blood will be left on him, and his Lord will repay his contempt.
1Efraim weidt zich met wind, en jaagt den oostenwind na; den gansen dag vermenigvuldigt hij leugen en verwoesting; en zij maken verbond met Assur, en de olie wordt naar Egypte gevoerd. 2Ook heeft de HEERE een twist met Juda, en Hij zal bezoeking doen over Jakob naar zijn wegen, naar zijn handelingen zal Hij hem vergelden. 3In moeders buik hield hij zijn broeder bij de verzenen; en in zijn kracht gedroeg hij zich vorstelijk met God. 4Ja, hij gedroeg zich vorstelijk tegen den Engel, en overmocht Hem; hij weende en smeekte Hem. Te Beth-el vond hij Hem, en aldaar sprak Hij met ons; 5Namelijk, de HEERE, de God der heirscharen; HEERE is Zijn gedenknaam. 6Gij dan, bekeer u tot uw God, bewaar weldadigheid en recht, en wacht geduriglijk op uw God. 7In des koopmans hand is een bedriegelijke weegschaal, hij bemint te verdrukken; 8Nog zegt Efraim: Evenwel ben ik rijk geworden, ik heb mij groot goed verkregen; in al mijn arbeid zullen zij mij geen ongerechtigheid vinden, die zonde zij. 9Maar Ik ben de HEERE, uw God, van Egypteland af; Ik zal u nog in tenten doen wonen, als in de dagen der samenkomst; 10En Ik zal spreken tot de profeten, en Ik zal het gezicht vermenigvuldigen; en door den dienst der profeten zal Ik gelijkenissen voorstellen. 11Zekerlijk is Gilead ongerechtigheid, zij zijn enkel ijdelheid; te Gilgal offeren zij ossen, ja, hun altaren zijn als steen hopen op de voren der velden. 12Jakob vlood toch naar het veld van Syrie, en Israel diende om een vrouw, en hoedde om een vrouw. 13Maar de HEERE voerde Israel op uit Egypte door een profeet, en door een profeet werd hij gehoed. 14Efraim daarentegen heeft Hem zeer bitterlijk vertoornd; daarom zal Hij zijn bloed op hem laten, en zijn Heere zal hem zijn smaad vergelden.
