1Il re e Haman andarono dunque al convito con la regina Ester. 2E il re anche questo secondo giorno disse a Ester, mentre si beveva il vino: "Qual è la tua richiesta, o regina Ester? Ti sarà concessa. Che desideri? Fosse anche la metà del regno, l’avrai". 3Allora la regina Ester rispose dicendo: "Se ho trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi, o re, e se così piace al re, la mia richiesta è che mi sia donata la vita; e il mio desiderio, che mi sia donato il mio popolo. 4Perché io e il mio popolo siamo stati venduti per esser distrutti, uccisi, sterminati. Ora se fossimo stati venduti per diventare schiavi e schiave, mi sarei taciuta; ma il nostro avversario non potrebbe riparare al danno fatto al re con la nostra morte". 5Il re Assuero prese a dire alla regina Ester: "Chi è, e dov’è colui che ha tanta presunzione da far questo?" 6Ester rispose: "L’avversario, il nemico, è quel malvagio di Haman". Allora Haman fu preso da terrore in presenza del re e della regina. 7E il re tutto adirato si alzò, e dal luogo del convito andò nel giardino del palazzo; ma Haman rimase per chieder la grazia della vita alla regina Ester, perché vedeva bene che nell’animo del re la sua rovina era decisa. 8Poi il re tornò dal giardino del palazzo nel luogo del convito; intanto Haman s’era gettato sul divano sul quale si trovava Ester; e il re esclamò: "Vuol egli anche far violenza alla regina, davanti a me, in casa mia?" Non appena questa parola fu uscita dalla bocca del re, copersero a Haman la faccia; 9e Harbona, uno degli eunuchi, disse in presenza del re: "Ecco, è perfino rizzata, in casa d’Haman, la forca alta cinquanta cubiti che Haman ha fatto preparare per Mardocheo, il quale avea parlato per il bene del re". E il re disse: "Appiccatevi lui!" 10Così Haman fu appiccato alla forca ch’egli avea preparata per Mardocheo. E l’ira del re si calmò.
1So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen. 2The king said again to Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, “What is your petition, queen Esther? It shall be granted you. What is your request? Even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.” 3Then Esther the queen answered, “If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request. 4For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for male and female slaves, I would have held my peace, although the adversary could not have compensated for the king’s loss.” 5Then King Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen, “Who is he, and where is he who dared presume in his heart to do so?” 6Esther said, “An adversary and an enemy, even this wicked Haman!” Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen. 7The king arose in his wrath from the banquet of wine and went into the palace garden. Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king. 8Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman had fallen on the couch where Esther was. Then the king said, “Will he even assault the queen in front of me in the house?” As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face. 9Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs who were with the king said, “Behold, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman has made for Mordecai, who spoke good for the king, is standing at Haman’s house.” The king said, “Hang him on it!” 10So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king’s wrath pacified.
1Toen de koning met Haman gekomen was, om te drinken met de koningin Esther; 2Zo zeide de koning tot Esther, ook op den tweeden dag, op den maaltijd des wijns: Wat is uw bede, koningin Esther? en zij zal u gegeven worden; en wat is uw verzoek? Het zal geschieden, ook tot de helft des koninkrijks. 3Toen antwoordde de koningin Esther, en zeide: Indien ik, o koning, genade in uw ogen gevonden heb, en indien het den koning goeddunkt, men geve mij mijn leven, om mijner bede wil, en mijn volk, om mijns verzoeks wil. 4Want wij zijn verkocht, ik en mijn volk, dat men ons verdelge, dode en ombrenge. Indien wij nog tot knechten en tot dienstmaagden waren verkocht geweest, ik zou gezwegen hebben, ofschoon de onderdrukker de schade des konings geenszins zou kunnen vergoeden. 5Toen sprak de koning Ahasveros, en zeide tot de koningin Esther: Wie is die, en waar is diezelve, die zijn hart vervuld heeft, om alzo te doen? 6En Esther zeide: De man, de onderdrukker en vijand, is deze boze Haman! Toen verschrikte Haman voor het aangezicht des konings en der koningin. 7En de koning stond op in zijn grimmigheid van den maaltijd des wijns, en ging naar den hof van het paleis. En Haman bleef staan, om van de koningin Esther, aangaande zijn leven verzoek te doen; want hij zag, dat het kwaad van de koning over hem ten volle besloten was. 8Toen de koning wederkwam uit den hof van het paleis in het huis van den maaltijd des wijns, zo was Haman gevallen op het bed, waarop Esther was. Toen zeide de koning: Zou hij ook wel de koningin verkrachten bij mij in het huis? Het woord ging uit des konings mond, en zij bedekten Hamans aangezicht. 9En Charbona, een van de kamerlingen, voor het aanschijn des konings staande, zeide: Ook zie, de galg, welke Haman gemaakt heeft voor Mordechai, die goed voor den koning gesproken heeft, staat bij Hamans huis, vijftig ellen hoog. Toen zeide de koning: Hang hem daaraan. 10Alzo hingen zij Haman aan de galg, die hij voor Mordechai had doen bereiden; en de grimmigheid des konings werd gestild.
