1Or, fratelli, vogliamo farvi sapere la grazia di Dio concessa alle chiese di Macedonia. 2In mezzo alle molte afflizioni con le quali esse sono provate, l’abbondanza della loro allegrezza e la loro profonda povertà hanno abbondato nelle ricchezze della loro liberalità. 3Poiché, io ne rendo testimonianza, secondo il poter loro, anzi al di là del poter loro, hanno dato volenterosi, 4chiedendoci con molte istanze la grazia di contribuire a questa sovvenzione destinata ai santi. 5E l’hanno fatto non solo come avevamo sperato; ma prima si sono dati loro stessi al Signore, e poi a noi, per la volontà di Dio. 6Talché abbiamo esortato Tito che, come l’ha già cominciata, così porti a compimento fra voi anche quest’opera di carità. 7Ma siccome voi abbondate in ogni cosa, in fede, in parola, in conoscenza, in ogni zelo e nell’amore che avete per noi, vedete d’abbondare anche in quest’opera di carità. 8Non lo dico per darvi un ordine, ma per mettere alla prova, con l’esempio dell’altrui premura, anche la schiettezza del vostro amore. 9Perché voi conoscete la carità del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo il quale, essendo ricco, s’è fatto povero per amor vostro, onde, mediante la sua povertà, voi poteste diventar ricchi. 10E qui vi do un consiglio; il che conviene a voi i quali fin dall’anno passato avete per i primi cominciato non solo a fare ma anche a volere: 11Portate ora a compimento anche il fare; onde, come ci fu la prontezza del volere, così ci sia anche il compiere secondo i vostri mezzi. 12Poiché, se c’è la prontezza dell’animo, essa è gradita in ragione di quello che uno ha, e non di quello che non ha. 13Poiché questo non si fa per recar sollievo ad altri ed aggravio a voi, ma per principio di uguaglianza; 14nelle attuali circostanze, la vostra abbondanza serve a supplire al loro bisogno, onde la loro abbondanza supplisca altresì al bisogno vostro, affinché ci sia uguaglianza, secondo che è scritto: 15Chi avea raccolto molto non n’ebbe di soverchio, e chi avea raccolto poco, non n’ebbe mancanza. 16Or ringraziato sia Iddio che ha messo in cuore a Tito lo stesso zelo per voi; 17poiché non solo egli ha accettata la nostra esortazione, ma mosso da zelo anche maggiore si è spontaneamente posto in cammino per venire da voi. 18E assieme a lui abbiam mandato questo fratello, la cui lode nella predicazione dell’Evangelo è sparsa per tutte le chiese; 19non solo, ma egli è stato anche eletto dalle chiese a viaggiare con noi per quest’opera di carità, da noi amministrata per la gloria del Signore stesso e per dimostrare la prontezza dell’animo nostro. 20Evitiamo così che qualcuno abbia a biasimarci circa quest’abbondante colletta che è da noi amministrata; 21perché ci preoccupiamo d’agire onestamente non solo nel cospetto del Signore, ma anche nel cospetto degli uomini. 22E con loro abbiamo mandato quel nostro fratello del quale spesse volte e in molte cose abbiamo sperimentato lo zelo, e che ora è più zelante che mai per la gran fiducia che ha in voi. 23Quanto a Tito, egli è mio compagno e collaboratore in mezzo a voi; quanto ai nostri fratelli, essi sono gli inviati delle chiese, e gloria di Cristo. 24Date loro dunque, nel cospetto delle chiese, la prova del vostro amore e mostrate loro che abbiamo ragione di gloriarci di voi.
1Moreover, brothers, we make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the assemblies of Macedonia; 2how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their liberality. 3For according to their power, I testify, yes and beyond their power, they gave of their own accord, 4begging us with much entreaty to receive this grace and the fellowship in the service to the saints. 5This was not as we had hoped, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God. 6So we urged Titus, that as he made a beginning before, so he would also complete in you this grace. 7But as you abound in everything, in faith, utterance, knowledge, all earnestness, and in your love to us, see that you also abound in this grace. 8I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love. 9For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich. 10I give a judgment in this: for this is expedient for you, who were the first to start a year ago, not only to do, but also to be willing. 11But now complete the doing also, that as there was the readiness to be willing, so there may be the completion also out of your ability. 12For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what you have, not according to what you don’t have. 13For this is not that others may be eased and you distressed, 14but for equality. Your abundance at this present time supplies their lack, that their abundance also may become a supply for your lack; that there may be equality. 15As it is written, “He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack.” 16But thanks be to God, who puts the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus. 17For he indeed accepted our exhortation, but being himself very earnest, he went out to you of his own accord. 18We have sent together with him the brother whose praise in the Good News is known through all the assemblies. 19Not only so, but who was also appointed by the assemblies to travel with us in this grace, which is served by us to the glory of the Lord himself, and to show our readiness. 20We are avoiding this, that any man should blame us concerning this abundance which is administered by us. 21Having regard for honorable things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. 22We have sent with them our brother, whom we have many times proved earnest in many things, but now much more earnest, by reason of the great confidence which he has in you. 23As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker for you. As for our brothers, they are the apostles of the assemblies, the glory of Christ. 24Therefore show the proof of your love to them in front of the assemblies, and of our boasting on your behalf.
1Voorts maken wij u bekend, broeders, de genade van God, die in de Gemeenten van Macedonie gegeven is. 2Dat in vele beproeving der verdrukking de overvloed hunner blijdschap, en hun zeer diepe armoede overvloedig geweest is tot den rijkdom hunner goeddadigheid. 3Want zij zijn naar vermogen (ik betuig het), ja, boven vermogen gewillig geweest; 4Ons met vele vermaning biddende, dat wij wilden aannemen de gave en de gemeenschap dezer bediening, die voor de heiligen geschiedt. 5En zij deden niet alleen, gelijk wij gehoopt hadden, maar gaven zichzelven eerst aan den Heere en daarna aan ons, door den wil van God. 6Alzo dat wij Titus vermaanden, dat, gelijk hij te voren begonnen had, hij ook alzo nog deze gave bij u voleinden zou. 7Zo dan, gelijk gij in alles overvloedig zijt, in geloof, en in woord, en in kennis, en in alle naarstigheid, en in uw liefde tot ons, ziet, dat gij ook in deze gave overvloedig zijt. 8Ik zeg dit niet als gebiedende, maar als door de naarstigheid van anderen ook de oprechtheid uwer liefde beproevende. 9Want gij weet de genade van onzen Heere Jezus Christus, dat Hij om uwentwil is arm geworden, daar Hij rijk was, opdat gij door Zijn armoede zoudt rijk worden. 10En ik zeg in dezen mijn mening; want dit is u oorbaar, als die niet alleen het doen, maar ook het willen van over een jaar te voren hebt begonnen. 11Maar nu voleindigt ook het doen; opdat, gelijk als er geweest is de volvaardigheid des gemoeds om te willen, er ook alzo zij het voleindigen uit hetgeen gij hebt. 12Want indien te voren de volvaardigheid des gemoeds daar is, zo is iemand aangenaam naar hetgeen hij heeft, niet naar hetgeen hij niet heeft. 13Want dit zeg ik niet, opdat anderen zouden verlichting hebben, en gij verdrukking; 14Maar opdat uit gelijkheid, in dezen tegenwoordigen tijd, uw overvloed zij om hun gebrek te vervullen; opdat ook hun overvloed zij om uw gebrek te vervullen, opdat er gelijkheid worde. 15Gelijk geschreven is: Die veel verzameld had, had niet over; en die weinig verzameld had, had niet te weinig. 16Doch Gode zij dank, Die dezelfde naarstigheid voor u in het hart van Titus gegeven heeft; 17Dat hij de vermaning heeft aangenomen, en zeer naarstig zijnde, gewillig tot u gereisd is. 18En wij hebben ook met hem gezonden den broeder, die lof heeft in het Evangelie door al de Gemeenten; 19En dat niet alleen, maar hij is ook van de Gemeenten verkoren, om met ons te reizen met deze gave, die van ons bediend wordt tot de heerlijkheid des Heeren Zelven, en de volvaardigheid uws gemoeds; 20Dit verhoedende, dat ons niemand moge lasteren in dezen overvloed, die van ons wordt bediend; 21Als die bezorgen, hetgeen eerlijk is, niet alleen voor den Heere, maar ook voor de mensen. 22Wij hebben ook met hen gezonden onzen broeder, welken wij in vele dingen dikmaals beproefd hebben, dat hij naarstig is; en nu veel naarstiger, door het groot vertrouwen, dat hij heeft tot ulieden. 23Hetzij dan Titus, hij is mijn metgezel en medearbeider bij u; hetzij onze broeders, zij zijn afgezanten der Gemeenten, en een eer van Christus. 24Bewijst dan aan hen de bewijzing uwer liefde, en van onzen roem van u, ook voor het aangezicht der Gemeenten.
