1Allora Anna pregò e disse: "Il mio cuore esulta nell’Eterno, l’Eterno mi ha dato una forza vittoriosa, la mia bocca s’apre contro i miei nemici perché gioisco per la liberazione che tu m’hai concessa. 2Non v’è alcuno che sia santo come l’Eterno, poiché non v’è altro Dio fuori di te; ne v’è ròcca pari all’Iddio nostro. 3Non parlate più con tanto orgoglio; non esca più l’arroganza dalla vostra bocca; poiché l’Eterno è un Dio che sa tutto, e da lui son pesate le azioni dell’uomo. 4L’arco dei potenti è spezzato, e i deboli son cinti di forza. 5Quei ch’eran satolli s’allogano per aver del pane, e quei che pativan la fame non la patiscono più; perfin la sterile partorisce sette volte, mentre quella che avea molti figli diventa fiacca. 6L’Eterno fa morire e fa vivere; fa scendere nel soggiorno de’ morti e ne fa risalire. 7L’Eterno fa impoverire ed arricchisce, egli abbassa ed anche innalza. 8Rileva il misero dalla polvere e trae su il povero dal letame, per farli sedere coi principi, per farli eredi di un trono di gloria; poiché le colonne della terra son dell’Eterno, e sopra queste Egli ha posato il mondo. 9Egli veglierà sui passi de’ suoi fedeli, ma gli empi periranno nelle tenebre; poiché l’uomo non trionferà per la sua forza. 10Gli avversari dell’Eterno saran frantumati. Egli tonerà contr’essi dal cielo; l’Eterno giudicherà gli estremi confini della terra, darà forza al suo re, farà grande la potenza del suo unto". 11Elkana se ne andò a casa sua a Rama, e il fanciullo rimase a servire l’Eterno sotto gli occhi del sacerdote Eli. 12Or i figliuoli di Eli erano uomini scellerati; non conoscevano l’Eterno. 13Ed ecco qual era il modo d’agire di questi sacerdoti riguardo al popolo: quando qualcuno offriva un sacrifizio, il servo del sacerdote veniva, nel momento in cui si faceva cuocere la carne, avendo in mano una forchetta a tre punte; 14la piantava nella caldaia o nel paiuolo o nella pentola o nella marmitta; e tutto quello che la forchetta tirava su, il sacerdote lo pigliava per sé. Così facevano a tutti gl’Israeliti, che andavano là, a Sciloh. 15E anche prima che si fosse fatto fumare il grasso, il servo del sacerdote veniva, e diceva all’uomo che faceva il sacrifizio: "Dammi della carne da fare arrostire, per il sacerdote; giacché egli non accetterà da te carne cotta, ma cruda". 16E se quell’uomo gli diceva: "Si faccia, prima di tutto, fumare il grasso; poi prenderai quel che vorrai", egli rispondeva: "No, me la devi dare ora; altrimenti la prenderò per forza!" 17Il peccato dunque di que’ giovani era grande oltremodo agli occhi dell’Eterno, perché la gente sprezzava le offerte fatte all’Eterno. 18Ma Samuele faceva il servizio nel cospetto dell’Eterno; era giovinetto, e cinto d’un efod di lino. 19Sua madre gli faceva ogni anno una piccola tonaca, e gliela portava quando saliva con suo marito ad offrire il sacrifizio annuale. 20Eli benedisse Elkana e sua moglie, dicendo: "L’Eterno ti dia prole da questa donna, in luogo del dono ch’ella ha fatto all’Eterno!" E se ne tornarono a casa loro. 21E l’Eterno visitò Anna, la quale concepì e partorì tre figliuoli e due figliuole. E il giovinetto Samuele cresceva presso l’Eterno. 22Or Eli era molto vecchio e udì tutto quello che i suoi figliuoli facevano a tutto Israele, e come si giacevano con le donne che eran di servizio all’ingresso della tenda di convegno. 23E disse loro: "Perché fate tali cose? poiché odo tutto il popolo parlare delle vostre malvage azioni. 24Non fate così, figliuoli miei, poiché quel che odo di voi non è buono; voi inducete a trasgressione il popolo di Dio. 25Se un uomo pecca contro un altr’uomo, Iddio lo giudica; ma, se pecca contro l’Eterno, chi intercederà per lui?" Quelli però non diedero ascolto alla voce del padre loro, perché l’Eterno li volea far morire. 26Intanto, il giovinetto Samuele continuava a crescere, ed era gradito così all’Eterno come agli uomini. 27Or un uomo di Dio venne da Eli e gli disse: "Così parla l’Eterno: Non mi sono io forse rivelato alla casa di tuo padre, quand’essi erano in Egitto al servizio di Faraone? 28Non lo scelsi io forse, fra tutte le tribù d’Israele, perché fosse mio sacerdote, salisse al mio altare, bruciasse il profumo e portasse l’efod in mia presenza? E non diedi io forse alla casa di tuo padre tutti i sacrifizi dei figliuoli d’Israele, fatti mediante il fuoco? 29E allora perché calpestate i miei sacrifizi e le mie oblazioni che ho comandato mi siano offerti nella mia dimora? E come mai onori i tuoi figliuoli più di me, e v’ingrassate col meglio di tutte le oblazioni d’Israele, mio popolo? 30Perciò, così dice l’Eterno, l’Iddio d’Israele: Io avevo dichiarato che la tua casa e la casa di tuo padre sarebbero al mio servizio, in perpetuo; ma ora l’Eterno dice: Lungi da me tal cosa! Poiché io onoro quelli che m’onorano, e quelli che mi sprezzano saranno avviliti. 31Ecco, i giorni vengono, quand’io troncherò il tuo braccio e il braccio della casa di tuo padre, in guisa che non vi sarà in casa tua alcun vecchio. 32E vedrai lo squallore nella mia dimora, mentre Israele sarà ricolmo di beni, e non vi sarà più mai alcun vecchio nella tua casa. 33E quello de’ tuoi che lascerò sussistere presso il mio altare, rimarrà per consumarti gli occhi e illanguidirti il cuore; e tutti i nati e cresciuti in casa tua morranno nel fior degli anni. 34E ti servirà di segno quello che accadrà ai tuoi figliuoli, Hofni e Fineas: ambedue morranno in uno stesso giorno. 35Io mi susciterò un sacerdote fedele, che agirà secondo il mio cuore e secondo l’anima mia; io gli edificherò una casa stabile, ed egli sarà al servizio del mio unto per sempre. 36E chiunque rimarrà della tua casa verrà a prostrarsi davanti a lui per avere una moneta d’argento e un tozzo di pane, e dirà: Ammettimi, ti prego, a fare alcuno de’ servigi del sacerdozio perch’io abbia un boccon di pane da mangiare".
1Hannah prayed, and said: “My heart exults in Yahweh! My horn is exalted in Yahweh. My mouth is enlarged over my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation. 2There is no one as holy as Yahweh, For there is no one besides you, nor is there any rock like our God. 3“Talk no more so exceeding proudly. Don’t let arrogance come out of your mouth, For Yahweh is a God of knowledge. By him actions are weighed. 4“The bows of the mighty men are broken. Those who stumbled are armed with strength. 5Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread. Those who were hungry are satisfied. Yes, the barren has borne seven. She who has many children languishes. 6“Yahweh kills, and makes alive. He brings down to Sheol, and brings up. 7Yahweh makes poor, and makes rich. He brings low, he also lifts up. 8He raises up the poor out of the dust. He lifts up the needy from the dunghill, To make them sit with princes, and inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are Yahweh’s. He has set the world on them. 9He will keep the feet of his holy ones, but the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness; for no man shall prevail by strength. 10Those who strive with Yahweh shall be broken to pieces. He will thunder against them in the sky. “Yahweh will judge the ends of the earth. He will give strength to his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.” 11Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. The child served Yahweh before Eli the priest. 12Now the sons of Eli were base men; they didn’t know Yahweh. 13The custom of the priests with the people was that when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the flesh was boiling, with a fork of three teeth in his hand; 14and he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or cauldron, or pot; all that the fork brought up the priest took therewith. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there. 15Yes, before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man who sacrificed, “Give meat to roast for the priest; for he will not accept boiled meat from you, but raw.” 16If the man said to him, “Let the fat be burned first, and then take as much as your soul desires”; then he would say, “No, but you shall give it to me now; and if not, I will take it by force.” 17The sin of the young men was very great before Yahweh; for the men despised the offering of Yahweh. 18But Samuel ministered before Yahweh, being a child, clothed with a linen ephod. 19Moreover his mother made him a little robe, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice. 20Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, “Yahweh give you seed of this woman for the petition which was asked of Yahweh.” They went to their own home. 21Yahweh visited Hannah, and she conceived, and bore three sons and two daughters. The child Samuel grew before Yahweh. 22Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons did to all Israel, and how that they lay with the women who served at the door of the Tent of Meeting. 23He said to them, “Why do you do such things? for I hear of your evil dealings from all this people. 24No, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: you make Yahweh’s people disobey. 25If one man sin against another, God shall judge him; but if a man sin against Yahweh, who shall entreat for him?” Notwithstanding, they didn’t listen to the voice of their father, because Yahweh intended to kill them. 26The child Samuel grew on, and increased in favor both with Yahweh, and also with men. 27A man of God came to Eli, and said to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Did I reveal myself to the house of your father, when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh’s house? 28Did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? Did I give to the house of your father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire? 29Why do you kick at my sacrifice and at my offering, which I have commanded in my habitation, and honor your sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel my people?’ 30“Therefore Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before me forever.’ But now Yahweh says, ‘Be it far from me; for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed. 31Behold, the days come, that I will cut off your arm, and the arm of your father’s house, that there shall not be an old man in your house. 32You shall see the affliction of my habitation, in all the wealth which I shall give Israel; and there shall not be an old man in your house forever. 33The man of yours, whom I shall not cut off from my altar, shall consume your eyes, and grieve your heart; and all the increase of your house shall die in the flower of their age. 34“‘This shall be the sign to you, that shall come on your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall both die. 35I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before my anointed forever. 36It shall happen, that everyone who is left in your house shall come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and shall say, “Please put me into one of the priests’ offices, that I may eat a morsel of bread.”’”
1Toen bad Hanna en zeide: Mijn hart springt van vreugde op in den HEERE; mijn hoorn is verhoogd in den HEERE; mijn mond is wijd opengedaan over mijn vijanden; want ik verheug mij in Uw heil. 2Er is niemand heilig, gelijk de HEERE; want er is niemand dan Gij, en er is geen rotssteen, gelijk onze God! 3Maakt het niet te veel, dat gij hoog, hoog zoudt spreken, dat iets hards uit uw mond zou gaan; want de HEERE is een God der wetenschappen, en Zijn daden zijn recht gedaan. 4De boog der sterken is gebroken; en die struikelden, zijn met sterkte omgord. 5Die verzadigd waren, hebben zich verhuurd om brood, en die hongerig waren, zijn het niet meer; totdat de onvruchtbare zeven heeft gebaard, en die vele kinderen had, krachteloos is geworden. 6De HEERE doodt en maakt levend; Hij doet ter helle nederdalen, en Hij doet weder opkomen. 7De HEERE maakt arm en maakt rijk; Hij vernedert, ook verhoogt Hij. 8Hij verheft den geringe uit het stof, en den nooddruftige verhoogt Hij uit den drek, om te doen zitten bij de vorsten, dat Hij hen den stoel der ere doe beerven; want de grondvesten des aardrijks zijn des HEEREN, en Hij heeft de wereld daarop gezet. 9Hij zal de voeten Zijner gunstgenoten bewaren; maar de goddelozen zullen zwijgen in duisternis; want een man vermag niet door kracht. 10Die met den HEERE twisten, zullen verpletterd worden; Hij zal in den hemel over hen donderen; de HEERE zal de einden der aarde richten, en zal Zijn Koning sterkte geven, en den hoorn Zijns Gezalfden verhogen. 11Daarna ging Elkana naar Rama in zijn huis; maar de jongeling was den HEERE dienende voor het aangezicht van den priester Eli. 12Doch de zonen van Eli waren kinderen Belials; zij kenden den HEERE niet. 13Want de wijze dier priesters met het volk was, dat, wanneer iemand een offerande offerde, des priesters jongen kwam, terwijl het vlees kookte, met een drietandigen krauwel in zijn hand; 14En sloeg in de teile, of in den ketel, of in de pan, of in den pot; al wat de krauwel optrok, dat nam de priester voor zich. Alzo deden zij aan al de Israelieten, die te Silo kwamen. 15Ook eer zij het vet aanstaken, kwam des priesters jongen, en zeide tot den man, die offerde: Geef dat vlees om te braden voor den priester; want hij zal geen gekookt vlees van u nemen, maar rauw. 16Wanneer nu die man tot hem zeide: Zij zullen dat vet als heden ganselijk aansteken, zo neem dan voor u, gelijk als het uw ziel lusten zal; zo zeide hij tot hem: Nu zult gij het immers geven, en zo niet, ik zal het met geweld nemen. 17Alzo was de zonde dezer jongelingen zeer groot voor het aangezicht des HEEREN; want de lieden verachtten het spijsoffer des HEEREN. 18Doch Samuel diende voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, zijnde een jongeling, omgord met den linnen lijfrok. 19En zijn moeder maakte hem een kleinen rok, en bracht hem dien van jaar tot jaar, als zij opkwam met haar man, om het jaarlijkse offer te offeren. 20En Eli zegende Elkana, en zijn huisvrouw, en zeide: De HEERE geve u zaad uit deze vrouw voor de bede, die zij den HEERE afgebeden heeft. En zij gingen naar zijn plaats. 21Want de HEERE bezocht Hanna, en zij werd bevrucht, en baarde drie zonen en twee dochters; en de jongeling Samuel werd groot bij den HEERE. 22Doch Eli was zeer oud, en hoorde al, wat zijn zonen aan gans Israel deden, en dat zij sliepen bij de vrouwen, die met hopen samenkwamen aan de deur van de tent der samenkomst. 23En hij zeide tot hen: Waarom doet gij al zulke dingen, dat ik deze uw boze stukken hore van dit ganse volk? 24Niet, mijn zonen; want dit is geen goed gerucht, dat ik hoor; gij maakt, dat het volk des HEEREN overtreedt. 25Wanneer een mens tegen een mens zondigt, zo zullen de goden hem oordelen; maar wanneer een mens tegen den HEERE zondigt, wie zal voor hem bidden? Doch zij hoorden de stem huns vaders niet, want de HEERE wilde hen doden. 26En de jongeling Samuel nam toe, en werd groot en aangenaam beide bij den HEERE en ook bij de mensen. 27En er kwam een man Gods tot Eli, en zeide tot hem: Zo zegt de HEERE: Heb Ik Mij klaarlijk geopenbaard aan het huis uws vaders, toen zij in Egypte waren, in het huis van Farao? 28En Ik heb hem uit alle stammen van Israel Mij ten priester verkoren, om te offeren op Mijn altaar, om het reukwerk aan te steken, om den efod voor Mijn aangezicht te dragen; en heb aan het huis uws vaders gegeven al de vuurofferen van de kinderen Israels. 29Waarom slaat gijlieden achteruit tegen Mijn slachtoffer, en tegen Mijn spijsoffer, hetwelk Ik geboden heb in de woning; en eert uw zonen meer dan Mij, dat gijlieden u mest van het voornaamste van alle spijsoffers van Mijn volk Israel? 30Daarom spreekt de HEERE, de God Israels: Ik had wel klaarlijk gezegd: Uw huis en uws vaders huis zouden voor Mijn aangezicht wandelen tot in eeuwigheid; maar nu spreekt de HEERE: Dat zij verre van Mij; want die Mij eren, zal Ik eren, maar die Mij versmaden, zullen licht geacht worden. 31Zie, de dagen komen, dat Ik uw arm zal afhouwen, en den arm van uws vaders huis, dat er geen oud man in uw huis wezen zal. 32En gij zult aanschouwen de benauwdheid der woning Gods, in plaats van al het goede, dat Hij Israel zou gedaan hebben; en er zal te genen dage een oud man in uw huis zijn. 33Doch de man, dien Ik u niet zal uitroeien van Mijn altaar, zou zijn om uw ogen te verteren, en om uw ziel te bedroeven; en al de menigte uws huizes zal sterven, mannen geworden zijnde. 34Dit nu zal u een teken zijn, hetwelk over uw beide zonen, over Hofni en Pinehas, komen zal: op een dag zullen zij beiden sterven. 35En Ik zal Mij een getrouwen priester verwekken; die zal doen, gelijk als in Mijn hart en in Mijn ziel zijn zal; dien zal Ik een bestendig huis bouwen, en hij zal altijd voor het aangezicht Mijns Gezalfden wandelen. 36En het zal geschieden, dat al wie van uw huis zal overig zijn, zal komen, om zich voor hem neder te buigen voor een stukje gelds, en een bolle broods, en zal zeggen: Neem mij toch aan tot enige priesterlijke bedienig, dat ik een bete broods moge eten.
