1Poiché dunque Cristo ha sofferto nella carne, anche voi armatevi di questo stesso pensiero, che, cioè, colui che ha sofferto nella carne ha cessato dal peccato, 2per consacrare il tempo che resta da passare nella carne, non più alle concupiscenze degli uomini, ma alla volontà di Dio. 3Poiché basta l’aver dato il vostro passato a fare la volontà de’ Gentili col vivere nelle lascivie, nelle concupiscenze, nelle ubriachezze, nelle gozzoviglie, negli sbevazzamenti, e nelle nefande idolatrie. 4Per la qual cosa trovano strano che voi non corriate con loro agli stessi eccessi di dissolutezza, e dicon male di voi. 5Essi renderanno ragione a colui ch’è pronto a giudicare i vivi ed i morti. 6Poiché per questo è stato annunziato l’Evangelo anche ai morti; onde fossero bensì giudicati secondo gli uomini quanto alla carne, ma vivessero secondo Dio quanto allo spirito. 7Or la fine di ogni cosa è vicina; siate dunque temperati e vigilanti alle orazioni. 8Soprattutto, abbiate amore intenso gli uni per gli altri, perché l’amore copre moltitudine di peccati. 9Siate ospitali gli uni verso gli altri senza mormorare. 10Come buoni amministratori della svariata grazia di Dio, ciascuno, secondo il dono che ha ricevuto, lo faccia valere al servizio degli altri. 11Se uno parla, lo faccia come annunziando oracoli di Dio; se uno esercita un ministerio, lo faccia come con la forza che Dio fornisce, onde in ogni cosa sia glorificato Iddio per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, al quale appartengono la gloria e l’imperio nei secoli de’ secoli. Amen. 12Diletti, non vi stupite della fornace accesa in mezzo a voi per provarvi, quasiché vi avvenisse qualcosa di strano. 13Anzi in quanto partecipate alle sofferenze di Cristo, rallegratevene, affinché anche alla rivelazione della sua gloria possiate rallegrarvi giubilando. 14Se siete vituperati per il nome di Cristo, beati voi! perché lo Spirito di gloria, lo spirito di Dio, riposa su voi. 15Nessuno di voi patisca come omicida, o ladro, o malfattore, o come ingerentesi nei fatti altrui; 16ma se uno patisce come Cristiano, non se ne vergogni, ma glorifichi Iddio portando questo nome. 17Poiché è giunto il tempo in cui il giudicio ha da cominciare dalla casa di Dio; e se comincia prima da noi, qual sarà la fine di quelli che non ubbidiscono al Vangelo di Dio? 18E se il giusto è appena salvato, dove comparirà l’empio e il peccatore? 19Perciò anche quelli che soffrono secondo la volontà di Dio, raccomandino le anime loro al fedel Creatore, facendo il bene.
1Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin; 2that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 3For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries. 4They think it is strange that you don’t run with them into the same excess of riot, blaspheming: 5who will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6For to this end the Good News was preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit. 7But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer. 8And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins. 9Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 10As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms. 11If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 12Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you. 13But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy. 14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified. 15For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler in other men’s matters. 16But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter. 17For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God. If it begins first with us, what will happen to those who don’t obey the Good News of God? 18“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?” 19Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.
1Dewijl dan Christus voor ons in het vlees geleden heeft, zo wapent gij u ook met dezelfde gedachte, namelijk dat wie in het vlees geleden heeft, die heeft opgehouden van de zonde; 2Om nu niet meer naar de begeerlijkheden der mensen, maar naar den wil van God, den tijd, die overig is in het vlees, te leven. 3Want het is ons genoeg, dat wij den voorgaande tijd des levens der heidenen wil volbracht hebben, en gewandeld hebben in ontuchtigheden, begeerlijkheden, wijnzuiperijen, brasserijen, drinkerijen en gruwelijke afgoderijen; 4Waarin zij zich vreemd houden, als gij niet medeloopt tot dezelfde uitgieting der overdadigheid, en u lasteren; 5Dewelke zullen rekenschap geven Dengene, Die bereid staat om te oordelen de levenden en de doden. 6Want daartoe is ook den doden het Evangelie verkondigd geworden, opdat zij wel zouden geoordeeld worden naar den mens in het vlees, maar leven zouden naar God in den geest. 7En het einde aller dingen is nabij; zijt dan nuchteren, en waakt in de gebeden. 8Maar vooral hebt vurige liefde tot elkander; want de liefde zal menigte van zonden bedekken. 9Zijt herbergzaam jegens elkander, zonder murmureren. 10Een iegelijk, gelijk hij gave ontvangen heeft, alzo bediene hij dezelve aan de anderen, als goede uitdelers der menigerlei genade Gods. 11Indien iemand spreekt, die spreke als de woorden Gods; indien iemand dient, die diene als uit kracht, die God verleent; opdat God in allen geprezen worde door Jezus Christus, Welken toekomt de heerlijkheid en de kracht, in alle eeuwigheid. Amen. 12Geliefden, houdt u niet vreemd over de hitte der verdrukking onder u, die u geschiedt tot verzoeking, alsof u iets vreemds overkwame; 13Maar gelijk gij gemeenschap hebt aan het lijden van Christus, alzo verblijdt u; opdat gij ook in de openbaring Zijner heerlijkheid u moogt verblijden en verheugen. 14Indien gij gesmaad wordt om den Naam van Christus, zo zijt gij zalig; want de Geest der heerlijkheid, en de Geest van God rust op u. Wat hen aangaat, Hij wordt wel gelasterd, maar wat u aangaat, Hij wordt verheerlijkt. 15Doch dat niemand van u lijde als een doodslager, of dief, of kwaaddoener, of als een, die zich met eens anders doen bemoeit; 16Maar indien iemand lijdt als een Christen, die schame zich niet, maar verheerlijke God in dezen dele. 17Want het is de tijd, dat het oordeel beginne van het huis Gods; en indien het eerst van ons begint, welk zal het einde zijn dergenen, die het Evangelie van God ongehoorzaam zijn? 18En indien de rechtvaardige nauwelijks zalig wordt, waar zal de goddeloze en zondaar verschijnen? 19Zo dan ook die lijden naar den wil van God, dat zij hun zielen Hem, als den getrouwen Schepper, bevelen met weldoen.
