1Je veux, en effet, que vous sachiez combien est grand le combat que je soutiens pour vous, et pour ceux qui sont à Laodicée, et pour tous ceux qui n’ont pas vu mon visage en la chair, 2afin qu’ils aient le cœur rempli de consolation, qu’ils soient unis dans la charité, et enrichis d’une pleine intelligence pour connaître le mystère de Dieu , savoir Christ, 3mystère dans lequel sont cachés tous les trésors de la sagesse et de la science. 4Je dis cela afin que personne ne vous trompe par des discours séduisants. 5Car, si je suis absent de corps, je suis avec vous en esprit, voyant avec joie le bon ordre qui règne parmi vous, et la fermeté de votre foi en Christ. 6Ainsi donc, comme vous avez reçu le Seigneur Jésus-Christ, marchez en lui, 7étant enracinés et fondés en lui, et affermis par la foi, d’après les instructions qui vous ont été données, et abondez en actions de grâces. 8Prenez garde que personne ne fasse de vous sa proie par la philosophie et par une vaine tromperie, s’appuyant sur la tradition des hommes, sur les rudiments du monde, et non sur Christ. 9Car en lui habite corporellement toute la plénitude de la divinité. 10Vous avez tout pleinement en lui, qui est le chef de toute domination et de toute autorité. 11Et c’est en lui que vous avez été circoncis d’une circoncision que la main n’a pas faite, mais de la circoncision de Christ, qui consiste dans le dépouillement du corps de la chair : 12ayant été ensevelis avec lui par le baptême, vous êtes aussi ressuscités en lui et avec lui, par la foi en la puissance de Dieu, qui l’a ressuscité des morts. 13Vous qui étiez morts par vos offenses et par l’incirconcision de votre chair, il vous a rendus à la vie avec lui, en nous faisant grâce pour toutes nos offenses ; 14il a effacé l’acte dont les ordonnances nous condamnaient et qui subsistait contre nous, et il l’a détruit en le clouant à la croix ; 15il a dépouillé les dominations et les autorités, et les a livrées publiquement en spectacle, en triomphant d’elles par la croix. 16Que personne donc ne vous juge au sujet du manger ou du boire, ou au sujet d’une fête, d’une nouvelle lune, ou des sabbats : 17c’était l’ombre des choses à venir, mais le corps est en Christ. 18Qu’aucun homme, sous une apparence d’humilité et par un culte des anges, ne vous ravisse à son gré le prix de la course, tandis qu’il s’abandonne à ses visions et qu’il est enflé d’un vain orgueil par ses pensées charnelles, 19sans s’attacher au chef, dont tout le corps, assisté et solidement assemblé par des jointures et des liens, tire l’accroissement que Dieu donne. 20Si vous êtes morts avec Christ aux rudiments du monde, pourquoi, comme si vous viviez dans le monde, vous impose-t-on ces préceptes : 21Ne prends pas ! ne goûte pas ! ne touche pas ! 22préceptes qui tous deviennent pernicieux par l’abus, et qui ne sont fondés que sur les ordonnances et les doctrines des hommes ? 23Ils ont, à la vérité, une apparence de sagesse, en ce qu’ils indiquent un culte volontaire, de l’humilité, et le mépris du corps, mais ils sont sans aucun mérite et contribuent à la satisfaction de la chair.
1For I desire to have you know how greatly I struggle for you, and for those at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; 2that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and gaining all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, 3in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden. 4Now this I say that no one may delude you with persuasiveness of speech. 5For though I am absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, rejoicing and seeing your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. 6As therefore you received Christ Jesus, the Lord, walk in him, 7rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, even as you were taught, abounding in it in thanksgiving. 8Be careful that you don’t let anyone rob you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elements of the world, and not after Christ. 9For in him all the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily, 10and in him you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power; 11in whom you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ; 12having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us; and he has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross; 15having stripped the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. 16Let no one therefore judge you in eating, or in drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day, 17which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s. 18Let no one rob you of your prize by a voluntary humility and worshiping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19and not holding firmly to the Head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and ligaments, grows with God’s growth. 20If you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances, 21“Don’t handle, nor taste, nor touch” 22(all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men? 23Which things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imposed worship, and humility, and severity to the body; but aren’t of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.
1Want ik wil, dat gij weet, hoe groten strijd ik voor u heb, en voor degenen, die te Laodicea zijn, en zo velen als er mijn aangezicht in het vlees niet hebben gezien; 2Opdat hun harten vertroost mogen worden, en zij samengevoegd zijn in de liefde, en dat tot allen rijkdom der volle verzekerdheid des verstands, tot kennis der verborgenheid van God en den Vader, en van Christus; 3In Denwelken al de schatten der wijsheid en der kennis verborgen zijn. 4En dit zeg ik, opdat niet iemand u misleide met beweegredenen, die een schijn hebben. 5Want hoewel ik met het vlees van u ben, nochtans ben ik met den geest bij u, mij verblijdende en ziende uw ordening, en de vastigheid van uw geloof in Christus. 6Gelijk gij dan Christus Jezus, den Heere, hebt aangenomen, wandelt alzo in Hem; 7Geworteld en opgebouwd in Hem, en bevestigd in het geloof, gelijkerwijs gij geleerd zijt, overvloedig zijnde in hetzelve, met dankzegging. 8Ziet toe, dat niemand u als een roof vervoere door de filosofie, en ijdele verleiding, naar de overlevering der mensen, naar de eerste beginselen der wereld, en niet naar Christus; 9Want in Hem woont al de volheid der Godheid lichamelijk; 10En gij zijt in Hem volmaakt, Die het Hoofd is van alle overheid en macht; 11In Welken gij ook besneden zijt met een besnijdenis, die zonder handen geschiedt, in de uittrekking van het lichaam der zonden des vleses, door de besnijdenis van Christus; 12Zijnde met Hem begraven in den doop, in welken gij ook met Hem opgewekt zijt door het geloof der werking Gods, Die Hem uit de doden opgewekt heeft. 13En Hij heeft u, als gij dood waart in de misdaden, en in de voorhuid uws vleses, mede levend gemaakt met Hem, al uw misdaden u vergevende; 14Uitgewist hebbende het handschrift, dat tegen ons was, in inzettingen bestaande, hetwelk, zeg ik, enigerwijze ons tegen was, en heeft datzelve uit het midden weggenomen, hetzelve aan het kruis genageld hebbende; 15En de overheden en de machten uitgetogen hebbende, heeft Hij die in het openbaar tentoongesteld, en heeft door hetzelve over hen getriomfeerd. 16Dat u dan niemand oordele in spijs of in drank, of in het stuk des feest dags, of der nieuwe maan, of der sabbatten; 17Welke zijn een schaduw der toekomende dingen, maar het lichaam is van Christus. 18Dat dan niemand u overheerse naar zijn wil in nederigheid en dienst der engelen, intredende in hetgeen hij niet gezien heeft, tevergeefs opgeblazen zijnde door het verstand zijns vleses; 19En het Hoofd niet behoudende, uit hetwelk het gehele lichaam, door de samenvoegselen en samenbindingen voorzien en samengevoegd zijnde, opwast met goddelijken wasdom. 20Indien gij dan met Christus de eerste beginselen der wereld zijt afgestorven, wat wordt gij, gelijk of gij in de wereld leefdet, met inzettingen belast? 21Namelijk raak niet, en smaak niet, en roer niet aan. 22Welke dingen alle verderven door het gebruik, ingevoerd naar de geboden en leringen der mensen; 23Dewelke wel hebben een schijn rede van wijsheid in eigenwilligen gods dienst en nederigheid, en in het lichaam niet te sparen, doch zijn niet in enige waarde, maar tot verzadiging van het vlees.
