1Voici les chefs de familles et les généalogies de ceux qui montèrent avec moi de Babylone, sous le règne du roi Artaxerxès. 2Des fils de Phinées, Guerschom ; des fils d’Ithamar, Daniel ; des fils de David, Hatthusch, des fils de Schecania ; 3des fils de Pareosch, Zacharie, et avec lui cent cinquante mâles enregistrés ; 4des fils de Pachat Moab, Eljoénaï, fils de Zerachja, et avec lui deux cents mâles ; 5des fils de Schecania, le fils de Jachaziel, et avec lui trois cents mâles ; 6des fils d’Adin, Ébed, fils de Jonathan, et avec lui cinquante mâles ; 7des fils d’Élam, Ésaïe, fils d’Athalia, et avec lui soixante-dix mâles ; 8des fils de Schephathia, Zebadia, fils de Micaël, et avec lui quatre-vingts mâles ; 9des fils de Joab, Abdias, fils de Jehiel, et avec lui deux cent dix-huit mâles ; 10des fils de Schelomith, le fils de Josiphia, et avec lui cent soixante mâles ; 11des fils de Bébaï, Zacharie, fils de Bébaï, et avec lui vingt-huit mâles ; 12des fils d’Azgad, Jochanan, fils d’Hakkathan, et avec lui cent dix mâles ; 13des fils d’Adonikam, les derniers, dont voici les noms : Éliphéleth, Jeïel et Schemaeja, et avec eux soixante mâles ; 14des fils de Bigvaï, Uthaï et Zabbud, et avec eux soixante-dix mâles. 15Je les rassemblai près du fleuve qui coule vers Ahava, et nous campâmes là trois jours. Je dirigeai mon attention sur le peuple et sur les sacrificateurs, et je ne trouvai là aucun des fils de Lévi. 16Alors je fis appeler les chefs Éliézer, Ariel, Schemaeja, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zacharie et Meschullam, et les docteurs Jojarib et Elnathan. 17Je les envoyai vers le chef Iddo, demeurant à Casiphia, et je mis dans leur bouche ce qu’ils devaient dire à Iddo et à ses frères les Néthiniens qui étaient à Casiphia, afin qu’ils nous amenassent des serviteurs pour la maison de notre Dieu. 18Et, comme la bonne main de notre Dieu était sur nous, ils nous amenèrent Schérébia, homme de sens, d’entre les fils de Machli, fils de Lévi, fils d’Israël, et avec lui ses fils et ses frères, au nombre de dix-huit ; 19Haschabia, et avec lui Ésaïe, d’entre les fils de Merari, ses frères et leurs fils, au nombre de vingt ; 20et d’entre les Néthiniens, que David et les chefs avaient mis au service des Lévites, deux cent vingt Néthiniens, tous désignés par leurs noms. 21Là, près du fleuve d’Ahava, je publiai un jeûne d’humiliation devant notre Dieu, afin d’implorer de lui un heureux voyage pour nous, pour nos enfants, et pour tout ce qui nous appartenait. 22J’aurais eu honte de demander au roi une escorte et des cavaliers pour nous protéger contre l’ennemi pendant la route, car nous avions dit au roi : La main de notre Dieu est pour leur bien sur tous ceux qui le cherchent, mais sa force et sa colère sont sur tous ceux qui l’abandonnent. 23C’est à cause de cela que nous jeûnâmes et que nous invoquâmes notre Dieu. Et il nous exauça. 24Je choisis douze chefs des sacrificateurs, Schérébia, Haschabia, et dix de leurs frères. 25Je pesai devant eux l’argent, l’or, et les ustensiles, donnés en offrande pour la maison de notre Dieu par le roi, ses conseillers et ses chefs, et par tous ceux d’Israël qu’on avait trouvés. 26Je remis entre leurs mains six cent cinquante talents d’argent, des ustensiles d’argent pour cent talents, cent talents d’or, 27vingt coupes d’or valant mille dariques, et deux vases d’un bel airain poli, aussi précieux que l’or. 28Puis je leur dis : Vous êtes consacrés à l’Éternel ; ces ustensiles sont des choses saintes, et cet argent et cet or sont une offrande volontaire à l’Éternel, le Dieu de vos pères. 29Soyez vigilants, et prenez cela sous votre garde, jusqu’à ce que vous le pesiez devant les chefs des sacrificateurs et les Lévites, et devant les chefs de familles d’Israël, à Jérusalem, dans les chambres de la maison de l’Éternel. 30Et les sacrificateurs et les Lévites reçurent au poids l’argent, l’or et les ustensiles, pour les porter à Jérusalem, dans la maison de notre Dieu. 31Nous partîmes du fleuve d’Ahava pour nous rendre à Jérusalem, le douzième jour du premier mois. La main de notre Dieu fut sur nous et nous préserva des attaques de l’ennemi et de toute embûche pendant la route. 32Nous arrivâmes à Jérusalem, et nous nous y reposâmes trois jours. 33Le quatrième jour, nous pesâmes dans la maison de notre Dieu l’argent, l’or, et les ustensiles, que nous remîmes à Merémoth, fils d’Urie, le sacrificateur ; il y avait avec lui Éléazar, fils de Phinées, et avec eux les Lévites Jozabad, fils de Josué, et Noadia, fils de Binnuï. 34Le tout ayant été vérifié, soit pour le nombre, soit pour le poids, on mit alors par écrit le poids du tout. 35Les fils de la captivité revenus de l’exil offrirent en holocauste au Dieu d’Israël douze taureaux pour tout Israël, quatre-vingt-seize béliers, soixante-dix-sept agneaux, et douze boucs comme victimes expiatoires, le tout en holocauste à l’Éternel. 36Ils transmirent les ordres du roi aux satrapes du roi et aux gouverneurs de ce côté du fleuve, lesquels honorèrent le peuple et la maison de Dieu.

Of the sons of Ithamar, Daniel. Of the sons of David, Hattush. 3Of the sons of Shecaniah, of the sons of Parosh, Zechariah; and with him were reckoned by genealogy of the males one hundred fifty. 4Of the sons of Pahathmoab, Eliehoenai the son of Zerahiah; and with him two hundred males. 5Of the sons of Shecaniah, the son of Jahaziel; and with him three hundred males. 6Of the sons of Adin, Ebed the son of Jonathan; and with him fifty males. 7Of the sons of Elam, Jeshaiah the son of Athaliah; and with him seventy males. 8Of the sons of Shephatiah, Zebadiah the son of Michael; and with him eighty males. 9Of the sons of Joab, Obadiah the son of Jehiel; and with him two hundred and eighteen males. 10Of the sons of Shelomith, the son of Josiphiah; and with him one hundred sixty males. 11Of the sons of Bebai, Zechariah the son of Bebai; and with him twenty-eight males. 12Of the sons of Azgad, Johanan the son of Hakkatan; and with him one hundred ten males. 13Of the sons of Adonikam, who were the last; and these are their names: Eliphelet, Jeuel, and Shemaiah; and with them sixty males. 14Of the sons of Bigvai, Uthai and Zabbud; and with them seventy males. 15I gathered them together to the river that runs to Ahava; and there we encamped three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi. 16Then sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, who were teachers. 17I sent them out to Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia; and I told them what they should tell Iddo, and his brothers the Nethinim, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring to us ministers for the house of our God. 18According to the good hand of our God on us they brought us a man of discretion, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brothers, eighteen; 19and Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brothers and their sons, twenty; 20and of the Nethinim, whom David and the princes had given for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinim: all of them were mentioned by name. 21Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek of him a straight way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance. 22For I was ashamed to ask of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the way, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is on all those who seek him, for good; but his power and his wrath is against all those who forsake him.” 23So we fasted and begged our God for this: and he was entreated of us. 24Then I set apart twelve of the chiefs of the priests, even Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brothers with them, 25and weighed to them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering for the house of our God, which the king, and his counselors, and his princes, and all Israel there present, had offered: 26I weighed into their hand six hundred fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels one hundred talents; of gold one hundred talents; 27and twenty bowls of gold, of one thousand darics; and two vessels of fine bright brass, precious as gold. 28I said to them, “You are holy to Yahweh, and the vessels are holy; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to Yahweh, the God of your fathers. 29Watch, and keep them, until you weigh them before the chiefs of the priests and the Levites, and the princes of the fathers’ households of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the rooms of Yahweh’s house.” 30So the priests and the Levites received the weight of the silver and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem to the house of our God. 31Then we departed from the river Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go to Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was on us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and the bandit by the way. 32We came to Jerusalem, and stayed there three days. 33On the fourth day the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed in the house of our God into the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, the Levite; 34the whole by number and by weight: and all the weight was written at that time. 35The children of the captivity, who had come out of exile, offered burnt offerings to the God of Israel, twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, and twelve male goats for a sin offering: all this was a burnt offering to Yahweh. 36They delivered the king’s commissions to the king’s satraps, and to the governors beyond the River: and they furthered the people and God’s house.

en met hem honderd en tien manspersonen. 13En van de laatste kinderen van Adonikam, welker namen deze waren: Elifelet, Jehiel, en Semaja; en met hen zestig manspersonen. 14En van de kinderen van Bigvai, Uthai en Zabbud; en met hen zeventig manspersonen. 15En ik vergaderde hen aan de rivier, gaande naar Ahava, en wij legerden ons aldaar drie dagen; toen lette ik op het volk en de priesteren, en vond aldaar geen van de kinderen van Levi. 16Zo zond ik tot Eliezer, tot Ariel, tot Semaja, en tot Elnathan, en tot Jarib, en tot Elnathan, en tot Nathan, en tot Zacharja, en tot Mesullam, de hoofden; namelijk Serebja, met zijn zonen en broederen, achttien; 19En Hasabja, en met hem Jesaja, van de kinderen van Merari, met zijn broederen, en hun zonen, twintig; 20En van Nethinim, die David en de vorsten ten dienste der Levieten gegeven hadden, tweehonderd en twintig Nethinim, die allen bij namen genoemd werden. 21Toen riep ik aldaar een vasten uit aan de rivier Ahava, opdat wij ons verootmoedigden voor het aangezicht onzes Gods, om van Hem te verzoeken een rechten weg, voor ons, en voor onze kinderkens, en voor al onze have. 22Want ik schaamde mij van den koning een heir en ruiters te begeren, om ons te helpen van den vijand, op den weg; omdat wij tot den koning hadden gesproken, zeggende: De hand onzes Gods is ten goede over allen, die Hem zoeken, maar Zijn sterkte en Zijn toorn over allen, die Hem verlaten. 23Alzo vastten wij; en verzochten zulks van onzen God; en Hij liet zich van ons verbidden. 24Toen scheidde ik twaalf uit van de oversten der priesteren: Serebja Hasabja, en tien van hun broederen met hen. 25En ik woog hun toe het zilver, en het goud, en de vaten, zijnde de offering van het huis onzes Gods die de koning en zijn raadsheren, en zijn vorsten, en gans Israel, die er gevonden werden, geofferd hadden; 26Ik woog dan aan hun hand zeshonderd en vijftig talenten zilvers, en honderd zilveren vaten in talenten; aan goud, honderd talenten; 27En twintig gouden bekers, tot duizend drachmen; en twee vaten van blinkend goed koper, begeerlijk als goud. 28En ik zeide tot hen: Gij zijt heilig den HEERE, en deze vaten zijn heilig; ook dit zilver en dit goud, de vrijwillige gave, den HEERE, den God uwer vaderen. 29Waakt en bewaart het, totdat gij het opweegt, in tegenwoordigheid van de oversten der priesteren en Levieten, en der vorsten der vaderen van Israel, te Jeruzalem, in de kameren van des HEEREN huis. 30Toen ontvingen de priesters en de Levieten het gewicht des zilvers en des gouds, en der vaten, om te brengen te Jeruzalem, ten huize onzes Gods. 31Alzo verreisden wij van de rivier Ahava, op den twaalfden der eerste maand, om te gaan naar Jeruzalem; en de hand onzes Gods was over ons, en redde ons van de hand des vijands, en desgenen, die ons lagen legde op den weg. 32En wij kwamen te Jeruzalem; en wij bleven aldaar drie dagen. 33Op den vierden dag nu werd gewogen het zilver, en het goud, en de vaten, in het huis onzes Gods, aan de hand van Meremoth, den zoon van Uria, den priester, en met hem Eleazar, de zoon van Pinehas; en met hem Jozabad, de zoon van Jesua, en Noadja, de zoon van Binnui, de Levieten. 34Naar het getal en naar het gewicht van dat alles; en het ganse gewicht werd ter zelfder tijd opgeschreven. 35En de weggevoerden, die uit de gevangenis gekomen waren, offerden den God Israels brandofferen; twaalf varren voor gans Israel, zes en negentig rammen, zeven en zeventig lammeren, twaalf bokken ten zondoffer; alles ten brandoffer den HEERE. 36Daarna gaven zij de wetten des konings aan des konings stadhouders en landvoogden aan deze zijde der rivier; en zij bevorderden het volk en het huis Gods.
