1Devenez donc les imitateurs de Dieu, comme des enfants bien-aimés ; 2et marchez dans la charité, à l’exemple de Christ, qui nous a aimés, et qui s’est livré lui-même à Dieu pour nous comme une offrande et un sacrifice de bonne odeur. 3Que l’impudicité, qu’aucune espèce d’impureté, et que la cupidité, ne soient pas même nommées parmi vous, ainsi qu’il convient à des saints. 4Qu’on n’entende ni paroles déshonnêtes, ni propos insensés, ni plaisanteries, choses qui sont contraires à la bienséance ; qu’on entende plutôt des actions de grâces. 5Car, sachez-le bien, aucun impudique, ou impur, ou cupide, c’est-à-dire, idolâtre, n’a d’héritage dans le royaume de Christ et de Dieu. 6Que personne ne vous séduise par de vains discours ; car c’est à cause de ces choses que la colère de Dieu vient sur les fils de la rébellion. 7N’ayez donc aucune part avec eux. 8Autrefois vous étiez ténèbres, et maintenant vous êtes lumière dans le Seigneur. Marchez comme des enfants de lumière ! 9Car le fruit de la lumière consiste en toute sorte de bonté, de justice et de vérité. 10Examinez ce qui est agréable au Seigneur ; 11et ne prenez point part aux œuvres infructueuses des ténèbres, mais plutôt condamnez-les . 12Car il est honteux de dire ce qu’ils font en secret ; 13mais tout ce qui est condamné est manifesté par la lumière, car tout ce qui est manifesté est lumière. 14C’est pour cela qu’il est dit : Réveille-toi, toi qui dors, Relève-toi d’entre les morts, Et Christ t’éclairera. 15Prenez donc garde de vous conduire avec circonspection, non comme des insensés, mais comme des sages ; 16rachetez le temps, car les jours sont mauvais. 17C’est pourquoi ne soyez pas inconsidérés, mais comprenez quelle est la volonté du Seigneur. 18Ne vous enivrez pas de vin : c’est de la débauche. Soyez, au contraire, remplis de l’Esprit ; 19entretenez-vous par des psaumes, par des hymnes, et par des cantiques spirituels, chantant et célébrant de tout votre cœur les louanges du Seigneur ; 20rendez continuellement grâces pour toutes choses à Dieu le Père, au nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, 21vous soumettant les uns aux autres dans la crainte de Christ. 22Femmes, soyez soumises à vos maris, comme au Seigneur ; 23car le mari est le chef de la femme, comme Christ est le chef de l’Église, qui est son corps, et dont il est le Sauveur. 24Or, de même que l’Église est soumise à Christ, les femmes aussi doivent l’être à leurs maris en toutes choses. 25Maris, aimez vos femmes, comme Christ a aimé l’Église, et s’est livré lui-même pour elle, 26afin de la sanctifier par la parole, après l’avoir purifiée par le baptême d’eau, 27afin de faire paraître devant lui cette Église glorieuse, sans tache, ni ride, ni rien de semblable, mais sainte et irrépréhensible. 28C’est ainsi que les maris doivent aimer leurs femmes comme leurs propres corps. Celui qui aime sa femme s’aime lui-même. 29Car jamais personne n’a haï sa propre chair ; mais il la nourrit et en prend soin, comme Christ le fait pour l’Église, 30parce que nous sommes membres de son corps . 31C’est pourquoi l’homme quittera son père et sa mère, et s’attachera à sa femme, et les deux deviendront une seule chair. 32Ce mystère est grand ; je dis cela par rapport à Christ et à l’Église. 33Du reste, que chacun de vous aime sa femme comme lui-même, et que la femme respecte son mari.
1Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children. 2Walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance. 3But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints; 4nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not appropriate; but rather giving of thanks. 5Know this for sure, that no sexually immoral person, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and God. 6Let no one deceive you with empty words. For because of these things, the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience. 7Therefore don’t be partakers with them. 8For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light, 9for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth, 10proving what is well pleasing to the Lord. 11Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them. 12For the things which are done by them in secret, it is a shame even to speak of. 13But all things, when they are reproved, are revealed by the light, for everything that reveals is light. 14Therefore he says, “Awake, you who sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” 15Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise; 16redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17Therefore don’t be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, 19speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; singing, and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20giving thanks always concerning all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God, even the Father; 21subjecting yourselves one to another in the fear of Christ. 22Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife, and Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body. 24But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything. 25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it; 26that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word, 27that he might present the assembly to himself gloriously, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without defect. 28Even so husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself. 29For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord also does the assembly; 30because we are members of his body, of his flesh and bones. 31“For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife. The two will become one flesh.” 32This mystery is great, but I speak concerning Christ and of the assembly. 33Nevertheless each of you must also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
1Zijt dan navolgers Gods, als geliefde kinderen; 2En wandelt in de liefde, gelijkerwijs ook Christus ons liefgehad heeft, en Zichzelven voor ons heeft overgegeven tot een offerande en een slachtoffer, Gode tot een welriekenden reuk. 3Maar hoererij en alle onreinigheid, of gierigheid, laat ook onder u niet genoemd worden, gelijkerwijs het den heiligen betaamt, 4Noch oneerbaarheid, noch zot geklap, of gekkernij, welke niet betamen; maar veelmeer dankzegging. 5Want dit weet gij, dat geen hoereerder, of onreine, of gierigaard, die een afgodendienaar is, erfenis heeft in het Koninkrijk van Christus en van God. 6Dat u niemand verleide met ijdele woorden; want om deze dingen komt de toorn Gods over de kinderen der ongehoorzaamheid. 7Zo zijt dan hun medegenoten niet. 8Want gij waart eertijds duisternis, maar nu zijt gij licht in den Heere; wandelt als kinderen des lichts. 9(Want de vrucht des Geestes is in alle goedigheid, en rechtvaardigheid, en waarheid), 10Beproevende wat den Heere welbehagelijk zij. 11En hebt geen gemeenschap met de onvruchtbare werken der duisternis, maar bestraft ze ook veeleer. 12Want hetgeen heimelijk van hen geschiedt, is schandelijk ook te zeggen. 13Maar al deze dingen, van het licht bestraft zijnde, worden openbaar; want al wat openbaar maakt, is licht. 14Daarom zegt Hij: Ontwaakt, gij, die slaapt, en staat op uit de doden; en Christus zal over u lichten. 15Ziet dan, hoe gij voorzichtiglijk wandelt, niet als onwijzen, maar als wijzen. 16Den tijd uitkopende, dewijl de dagen boos zijn. 17Daarom zijt niet onverstandig, maar verstaat, welke de wil des Heeren zij. 18En wordt niet dronken in wijn, waarin overdaad is, maar wordt vervuld met den Geest; 19Sprekende onder elkander met psalmen, en lofzangen, en geestelijke liederen, zingende en psalmende den Heere in uw hart; 20Dankende te allen tijd over alle dingen God en den Vader, in den Naam van onzen Heere Jezus Christus; 21Elkander onderdanig zijnde in de vreze Gods. 22Gij vrouwen, weest aan uw eigen mannen onderdanig, gelijk aan den Heere; 23Want de man is het hoofd der vrouw, gelijk ook Christus het Hoofd der Gemeente is; en Hij is de Behouder des lichaams. 24Daarom, gelijk de Gemeente aan Christus onderdanig is, alzo ook de vrouwen aan haar eigen mannen in alles. 25Gij mannen, hebt uw eigen vrouwen lief, gelijk ook Christus de Gemeente liefgehad heeft, en Zichzelven voor haar heeft overgegeven; 26Opdat Hij haar heiligen zou, haar gereinigd hebbende met het bad des waters door het Woord; 27Opdat Hij haar Zichzelven heerlijk zou voorstellen, een Gemeente, die geen vlek of rimpel heeft, of iets dergelijks, maar dat zij zou heilig zijn en onberispelijk. 28Alzo zijn de mannen schuldig hun eigen vrouwen lief te hebben, gelijk hun eigen lichamen. Die zijn eigen vrouw liefheeft, die heeft zichzelven lief. 29Want niemand heeft ooit zijn eigen vlees gehaat, maar hij voedt het, en onderhoudt het, gelijkerwijs ook de Heere de Gemeente. 30Want wij zijn leden Zijns lichaams, van Zijn vlees en van Zijn benen. 31Daarom zal een mens zijn vader en moeder verlaten, en zal zijn vrouw aanhangen; en zij twee zullen tot een vlees wezen. 32Deze verborgenheid is groot; doch ik zeg dit, ziende op Christus en op de Gemeente. 33Zo dan ook gijlieden, elk in het bijzonder, een iegelijk hebbe zijn eigen vrouw, alzo lief als zichzelven; en de vrouw zie, dat zij den man vreze.
