1Paul, appelé à être apôtre de Jésus-Christ par la volonté de Dieu, et le frère Sosthène, 2à l’Église de Dieu qui est à Corinthe, à ceux qui ont été sanctifiés en Jésus-Christ, appelés à être saints, et à tous ceux qui invoquent en quelque lieu que ce soit le nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, leur Seigneur et le nôtre : 3que la grâce et la paix vous soient données de la part de Dieu notre Père et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ ! 4Je rends à mon Dieu de continuelles actions de grâces à votre sujet, pour la grâce de Dieu qui vous a été accordée en Jésus-Christ. 5Car en lui vous avez été comblés de toutes les richesses qui concernent la parole et la connaissance, 6le témoignage de Christ ayant été solidement établi parmi vous, 7de sorte qu’il ne vous manque aucun don, dans l’attente où vous êtes de la manifestation de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ. 8Il vous affermira aussi jusqu’à la fin, pour que vous soyez irréprochables au jour de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ. 9Dieu est fidèle, lui qui vous a appelés à la communion de son Fils, Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur. 10Je vous exhorte, frères, par le nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, à tenir tous un même langage, et à ne point avoir de divisions parmi vous, mais à être parfaitement unis dans un même esprit et dans un même sentiment. 11Car, mes frères, j’ai appris à votre sujet, par les gens de Chloé, qu’il y a des disputes au milieu de vous. 12Je veux dire que chacun de vous parle ainsi : Moi , je suis de Paul ! et moi, d’Apollos ! et moi, de Céphas ! et moi, de Christ ! 13Christ est-il divisé ? Paul a-t-il été crucifié pour vous, ou est-ce au nom de Paul que vous avez été baptisés ? 14Je rends grâces à Dieu de ce que je n’ai baptisé aucun de vous, excepté Crispus et Gaïus, 15afin que personne ne dise que vous avez été baptisés en mon nom. 16J’ai encore baptisé la famille de Stéphanas ; du reste, je ne sache pas que j’aie baptisé quelque autre personne. 17Ce n’est pas pour baptiser que Christ m’a envoyé, c’est pour annoncer l’Évangile, et cela sans la sagesse du langage, afin que la croix de Christ ne soit pas rendue vaine. 18Car la prédication de la croix est une folie pour ceux qui périssent ; mais pour nous qui sommes sauvés, elle est une puissance de Dieu. 19Aussi est-il écrit : Je détruirai la sagesse des sages, Et j’anéantirai l’intelligence des intelligents. 20Où est le sage ? où est le scribe ? où est le disputeur de ce siècle ? Dieu n’a-t-il pas convaincu de folie la sagesse du monde ? 21Car puisque le monde, avec sa sagesse, n’a point connu Dieu dans la sagesse de Dieu, il a plu à Dieu de sauver les croyants par la folie de la prédication. 22Les Juifs demandent des miracles et les Grecs cherchent la sagesse : 23nous, nous prêchons Christ crucifié ; scandale pour les Juifs et folie pour les païens, 24mais puissance de Dieu et sagesse de Dieu pour ceux qui sont appelés, tant Juifs que Grecs. 25Car la folie de Dieu est plus sage que les hommes, et la faiblesse de Dieu est plus forte que les hommes. 26Considérez, frères, que parmi vous qui avez été appelés il n’y a ni beaucoup de sages selon la chair, ni beaucoup de puissants, ni beaucoup de nobles. 27Mais Dieu a choisi les choses folles du monde pour confondre les sages ; Dieu a choisi les choses faibles du monde pour confondre les fortes ; 28et Dieu a choisi les choses viles du monde et celles qu’on méprise, celles qui ne sont point, pour réduire à néant celles qui sont, 29afin que nulle chair ne se glorifie devant Dieu. 30Or, c’est par lui que vous êtes en Jésus-Christ, lequel, de par Dieu, a été fait pour nous sagesse, justice et sanctification et rédemption, 31afin, comme il est écrit, Que celui qui se glorifie se glorifie dans le Seigneur.
1Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes, 2to the assembly of God which is at Corinth; those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, both theirs and ours: 3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4I always thank my God concerning you, for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus; 5that in everything you were enriched in him, in all speech and all knowledge; 6even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: 7so that you come behind in no gift; waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ; 8who will also confirm you until the end, blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9God is faithful, through whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. 10Now I beg you, brothers, through the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11For it has been reported to me concerning you, my brothers, by those who are from Chloe’s household, that there are contentions among you. 12Now I mean this, that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” “I follow Apollos,” “I follow Cephas,” and, “I follow Christ.” 13Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized into the name of Paul? 14I thank God that I baptized none of you, except Crispus and Gaius, 15so that no one should say that I had baptized you into my own name. 16(I also baptized the household of Stephanas; besides them, I don’t know whether I baptized any other.) 17For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Good News—not in wisdom of words, so that the cross of Christ wouldn’t be made void. 18For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are dying, but to us who are saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, I will bring the discernment of the discerning to nothing.” 20Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Hasn’t God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21For seeing that in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom didn’t know God, it was God’s good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save those who believe. 22For Jews ask for signs, Greeks seek after wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified; a stumbling block to Jews, and foolishness to Greeks, 24but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble; 27but God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame those who are wise. God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong; 28and God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that are not, that he might bring to nothing the things that are: 29that no flesh should boast before God. 30But of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption: 31that, according as it is written, “He who boasts, let him boast in the Lord.”
1Paulus, een geroepen apostel van Jezus Christus, door den wil van God, en Sosthenes, de broeder, 2Aan de Gemeente Gods, die te Korinthe is, den geheiligden in Christus Jezus, den geroepenen heiligen, met allen, die den Naam van onzen Heere Jezus Christus aanroepen in alle plaats, beide hun en onzen Heere; 3Genade zij u en vrede van God onzen Vader, en den Heere Jezus Christus. 4Ik dank mijn God allen tijd over u, vanwege de genade Gods, die u gegeven is in Christus Jezus; 5Dat gij in alles rijk zijt geworden in Hem, in alle rede en alle kennis; 6Gelijk de getuigenis van Christus bevestigd is onder u; 7Alzo dat het u aan gene gave ontbreekt, verwachtende de openbaring van onzen Heere Jezus Christus. 8Welke God u ook zal bevestigen tot het einde toe, om onstraffelijk te zijn in den dag van onzen Heere Jezus Christus. 9God is getrouw, door Welken gij geroepen zijt tot de gemeenschap van Zijn Zoon Jezus Christus, onzen Heere. 10Maar ik bid u, broeders, door den Naam van onzen Heere Jezus Christus, dat gij allen hetzelfde spreekt, en dat onder u geen scheuringen zijn, maar dat gij samengevoegd zijt in een zelfden zin, en in een zelfde gevoelen. 11Want mij is van u bekend gemaakt, mijn broeders, door die van het huisgezin van Chloe zijn, dat er twisten onder u zijn. 12En dit zeg ik, dat een iegelijk van u zegt: Ik ben van Paulus, en ik van Apollos; en ik van Cefas; en ik van Christus. 13Is Christus gedeeld? Is Paulus voor u gekruist? Of zijt gij in Paulus' naam gedoopt? 14Ik dank God, dat ik niemand van ulieden gedoopt heb, dan Krispus en Gajus; 15Opdat niet iemand zegge, dat ik in mijn naam gedoopt heb. 16Doch ik heb ook het huisgezin van Stefanus gedoopt; voorts weet ik niet, of ik iemand anders gedoopt heb. 17Want Christus heeft mij niet gezonden, om te dopen, maar om het Evangelie te verkondigen; niet met wijsheid van woorden, opdat het kruis van Christus niet verijdeld worde. 18Want het woord des kruises is wel dengenen, die verloren gaan, dwaasheid; maar ons, die behouden worden, is het een kracht Gods; 19Want er is geschreven: Ik zal de wijsheid der wijzen doen vergaan, en het verstand der verstandigen zal Ik te niet maken. 20Waar is de wijze? Waar is de schriftgeleerde? Waar is de onderzoeker dezer eeuw? Heeft God de wijsheid dezer wereld niet dwaas gemaakt? 21Want nademaal, in de wijsheid Gods, de wereld God niet heeft gekend door de wijsheid, zo heeft het Gode behaagd, door de dwaasheid der prediking, zalig te maken, die geloven; 22Overmits de Joden een teken begeren, en de Grieken wijsheid zoeken; 23Doch wij prediken Christus, den Gekruisigde, den Joden wel een ergernis, en den Grieken een dwaasheid; 24Maar hun, die geroepen zijn, beiden Joden en Grieken, prediken wij Christus, de kracht Gods, en de wijsheid Gods. 25Want het dwaze Gods is wijzer dan de mensen; en het zwakke Gods is sterker dan de mensen. 26Want gij ziet uw roeping, broeders, dat gij niet vele wijzen zijt naar het vlees, niet vele machtigen, niet vele edelen. 27Maar het dwaze der wereld heeft God uitverkoren, opdat Hij de wijzen beschamen zou; en het zwakke der wereld heeft God uitverkoren, opdat Hij het sterke zou beschamen; 28En het onedele der wereld, en het verachte heeft God uitverkoren, en hetgeen niets is, opdat Hij hetgeen iets is, te niet zou maken; 29Opdat geen vlees zou roemen voor Hem. 30Maar uit Hem zijt gij in Christus Jezus, Die ons geworden is wijsheid van God, en rechtvaardigheid, en heiligmaking, en verlossing; 31Opdat het zij, gelijk geschreven is: Die roemt, roeme in den Heere.
