1Y LUEGO por la mañana, habiendo tenido consejo los príncipes de los sacerdotes con los ancianos, y con los escribas, y con todo el concilio, llevaron á Jesús atado, y le entregaron á Pilato. 2Y Pilato le preguntó: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los Judíos? Y respondiendo él, le dijo: Tú lo dices. 3Y los príncipes de los sacerdotes le acusaban mucho. 4Y le preguntó otra vez Pilato, diciendo: ¿No respondes algo? Mira de cuántas cosas te acusan. 5Mas Jesús ni aun con eso respondió; de modo que Pilato se maravillaba. 6Empero en el día de la fiesta les soltaba un preso, cualquiera que pidiesen. 7Y había uno, que se llamaba Barrabás, preso con sus compañeros de motín que habían hecho muerte en una revuelta. 8Y viniendo la multitud, comenzó á pedir hiciese como siempre les había hecho. 9Y Pilato les respondió, diciendo: ¿Queréis que os suelte al Rey de los Judíos? 10Porque conocía que por envidia le habían entregado los príncipes de los sacerdotes. 11Mas los príncipes de los sacerdotes incitaron á la multitud, que les soltase antes á Barrabás. 12Y respondiendo Pilato, les dice otra vez: ¿Qué pues queréis que haga del que llamáis Rey de los Judíos? 13Y ellos volvieron á dar voces: Crucifícale. 14Mas Pilato les decía: ¿Pues qué mal ha hecho? Y ellos daban más voces: Crucifícale. 15Y Pilato, queriendo satisfacer al pueblo, les soltó á Barrabás, y entregó á Jesús, después de azotarle, para que fuese crucificado. 16Entonces los soldados le llevaron dentro de la sala, es á saber, al Pretorio; y convocan toda la cohorte. 17Y le visten de púrpura; y poniéndole una corona tejida de espinas, 18Comenzaron luego á saludarle: ¡Salve, Rey de los Judíos! 19Y le herían en la cabeza con una caña, y escupían en él, y le adoraban hincadas las rodillas. 20Y cuando le hubieron escarnecido, le desnudaron la púrpura, y le vistieron sus propios vestidos, y le sacaron para crucificarle. 21Y cargaron á uno que pasaba, Simón Cireneo, padre de Alejandro y de Rufo, que venía del campo, para que llevase su cruz. 22Y le llevan al lugar de Gólgotha, que declarado quiere decir: Lugar de la Calavera. 23Y le dieron á beber vino mezclado con mirra; mas él no lo tomó. 24Y cuando le hubieron crucificado, repartieron sus vestidos, echando suertes sobre ellos, qué llevaría cada uno. 25Y era la hora de las tres cuando le crucificaron. 26Y el título escrito de su causa era: EL REY DE LOS JUDIOS. 27Y crucificaron con él dos ladrones, uno á su derecha, y el otro á su izquierda. 28Y se cumplió la Escritura, que dice: Y con los inicuos fué contado. 29Y los que pasaban le denostaban, meneando sus cabezas, y diciendo: ¡Ah! tú que derribas el templo de Dios, y en tres días lo edificas, 30Sálvate á ti mismo, y desciende de la cruz. 31Y de esta manera también los príncipes de los sacerdotes escarneciendo, decían unos á otros, con los escribas: A otros salvó, á sí mismo no se puede salvar. 32El Cristo, Rey de Israel, descienda ahora de la cruz, para que veamos y creamos. También los que estaban crucificados con él le denostaban. 33Y cuando vino la hora de sexta, fueron hechas tinieblas sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora de nona. 34Y á la hora de nona, exclamó Jesús á gran voz, diciendo: Eloi, Eloi, ¿lama sabachthani? que declarado, quiere decir: Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me has desamparado? 35Y oyéndole unos de los que estaban allí, decían: He aquí, llama á Elías. 36Y corrió uno, y empapando una esponja en vinagre, y poniéndola en una caña, le dió á beber, diciendo: Dejad, veamos si vendrá Elías á quitarle. 37Mas Jesús, dando una grande voz, espiró. 38Entonces el velo del templo se rasgó en dos, de alto á bajo. 39Y el centurión que estaba delante de él, viendo que había espirado así clamando, dijo: Verdaderamente este hombre era el Hijo de Dios. 40Y también estaban algunas mujeres mirando de lejos; entre las cuales estaba María Magdalena, y María la madre de Jacobo el menor y de José, y Salomé; 41Las cuales, estando aún él en Galilea, le habían seguido, y le servían; y otras muchas que juntamente con él habían subido á Jerusalem. 42Y cuando fué la tarde, porque era la preparación, es decir, la víspera del sábado, 43José de Arimatea, senador noble, que también esperaba el reino de Dios, vino, y osadamente entró á Pilato, y pidió el cuerpo de Jesús. 44Y Pilato se maravilló que ya fuese muerto; y haciendo venir al centurión, preguntóle si era ya muerto. 45Y enterado del centurión, dió el cuerpo á José: 46El cual compró una sábana, y quitándole, le envolvió en la sábana: y le puso en un sepulcro que estaba cavado en una peña; y revolvió una piedra á la puerta del sepulcro. 47Y María Magdalena, y María madre de José, miraban donde era puesto.
1Immediately in the morning the chief priests, with the elders and scribes, and the whole council, held a consultation, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate. 2Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered, “So you say.” 3The chief priests accused him of many things. 4Pilate again asked him, “Have you no answer? See how many things they testify against you!” 5But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate marveled. 6Now at the feast he used to release to them one prisoner, whom they asked of him. 7There was one called Barabbas, bound with those who had made insurrection, men who in the insurrection had committed murder. 8The multitude, crying aloud, began to ask him to do as he always did for them. 9Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” 10For he perceived that for envy the chief priests had delivered him up. 11But the chief priests stirred up the multitude, that he should release Barabbas to them instead. 12Pilate again asked them, “What then should I do to him whom you call the King of the Jews?” 13They cried out again, “Crucify him!” 14Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they cried out exceedingly, “Crucify him!” 15Pilate, wishing to please the multitude, released Barabbas to them, and handed over Jesus, when he had flogged him, to be crucified. 16The soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Praetorium; and they called together the whole cohort. 17They clothed him with purple, and weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on him. 18They began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 19They struck his head with a reed, and spat on him, and bowing their knees, did homage to him. 20When they had mocked him, they took the purple off of him, and put his own garments on him. They led him out to crucify him. 21They compelled one passing by, coming from the country, Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to go with them, that he might bear his cross. 22They brought him to the place called Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, “The place of a skull.” 23They offered him wine mixed with myrrh to drink, but he didn’t take it. 24Crucifying him, they parted his garments among them, casting lots on them, what each should take. 25It was the third hour, and they crucified him. 26The superscription of his accusation was written over him, “THE KING OF THE JEWS.” 27With him they crucified two robbers; one on his right hand, and one on his left. 28The Scripture was fulfilled, which says, “He was numbered with transgressors.” 29Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying, “Ha! You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, 30save yourself, and come down from the cross!” 31Likewise, also the chief priests mocking among themselves with the scribes said, “He saved others. He can’t save himself. 32Let the Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe him.” Those who were crucified with him insulted him. 33When the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34At the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is, being interpreted, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 35Some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.” 36One ran, and filling a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Let him be. Let’s see whether Elijah comes to take him down.” 37Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and gave up the spirit. 38The veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. 39When the centurion, who stood by opposite him, saw that he cried out like this and breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!” 40There were also women watching from afar, among whom were both Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome; 41who, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and served him; and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem. 42When evening had now come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43Joseph of Arimathaea, a prominent council member who also himself was looking for the Kingdom of God, came. He boldly went in to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body. 44Pilate marveled if he were already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he had been dead long. 45When he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. 46He bought a linen cloth, and taking him down, wound him in the linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb which had been cut out of a rock. He rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. 47Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of Joses, saw where he was laid.

Zie, hoe vele zaken zij tegen U getuigen! 5En Jezus heeft niet meer geantwoord, zodat Pilatus zich verwonderde. 6En op het feest liet hij hun een gevangene los, wien zij ook begeerden. 7En er was een, genaamd Bar-abbas, gevangen met andere medeoproermakers, die in het oproer een doodslag gedaan had. 8En de schare riep uit, en begon te begeren, dat hij deed, gelijk hij hun altijd gedaan had. 9En Pilatus antwoordde hun, zeggende: Wilt gij, dat ik u den Koning der Joden loslate? 10(Want hij wist, dat de overpriesters Hem door nijd overgeleverd hadden.) 11Maar de overpriesters bewogen de schare, dat hij hun liever Bar-abbas zou loslaten. 12En Pilatus, antwoordende, zeide wederom tot hen: Wat wilt gij dan, dat ik met Hem doen zal, Dien gij een Koning der Joden noemt? 13En zij riepen wederom: Kruis Hem. 14Doch Pilatus zeide tot hen: Wat heeft Hij dan kwaads gedaan? En zij riepen te meer: Kruis Hem! 15Pilatus nu, willende der schare genoeg doen, heeft hun Bar-abbas losgelaten, en gaf Jezus over, als hij Hem gegeseld had, om gekruist te worden. 16En de krijgsknechten leidden Hem binnen in de zaal, welke is het rechthuis, en riepen de ganse bende samen; 17En deden Hem een purperen mantel aan, en een doornenkroon gevlochten hebbende, zetten Hem die op; 18En begonnen Hem te groeten, zeggende: Wees gegroet, Gij Koning der Joden! 19En sloegen Zijn hoofd met een rietstok, en bespogen Hem, en vallende op de knieen, aanbaden Hem. 20En als zij Hem bespot hadden, deden zij Hem den purperen mantel af, en deden Hem Zijn eigen klederen aan, en leidden Hem uit, om Hem te kruisigen. 21En zij dwongen een Simon van Cyrene, die daar voorbijging, komende van den akker, den vader van Alexander en Rufus, dat hij Zijn kruis droeg. 22En zij brachten Hem tot de plaats Golgotha, hetwelk is, overgezet zijnde, Hoofdschedelplaats. 23En zij gaven Hem gemirreden wijn te drinken; maar Hij nam dien niet. 24En als zij Hem gekruisigd hadden, verdeelden zij Zijn klederen, werpende het lot over dezelve, wat een iegelijk wegnemen zou. 25En het was de derde ure, en zij kruisigden Hem. 26En het opschrift Zijner beschuldiging was boven Hem geschreven: De KONING DER JODEN. 27En zij kruisigden met Hem twee moordenaars, een aan Zijn rechter zijde, en een aan Zijn linker zijde. 28En de Schrift is vervuld geworden, die daar zegt: En Hij is met de misdadigers gerekend. 29En die voorbijgingen, lasterden Hem, schuddende hun hoofden, en zeggende: Ha! Gij, die den tempel afbreekt, en in drie dagen opbouwt, 30Behoud Uzelven, en kom af van het kruis. 31En insgelijks ook de overpriesters, met de schriftgeleerden, zeiden tot elkander, al spottende: Hij heeft anderen verlost; Zichzelven kan Hij niet verlossen. 32De Christus, de Koning Israels, kome nu af van het kruis, opdat wij het zien en geloven mogen. Ook die met Hem gekruist waren, smaadden Hem. 33En als de zesde ure gekomen was, werd er duisternis over de gehele aarde, tot de negende ure toe. 34En ter negender ure, riep Jezus met een grote stem, zeggende: ELOI, ELOI, LAMMA SABACHTANI, hetwelk is, overgezet zijnde: Mijn God, Mijn God, waarom hebt Gij Mij verlaten? 35En sommigen van die daarbij stonden, dit horende, zeiden: Ziet, Hij roept Elias. 36En er liep een, en vulde een spons met edik, en stak ze op een rietstok, en gaf Hem te drinken, zeggende: Houdt stil, laat ons zien, of Elias komt, om Hem af te nemen. 37En Jezus, een grote stem van Zich gegeven hebbende, gaf den geest. 38En het voorhangsel des tempels scheurde in tweeen, van boven tot beneden. 39En de hoofdman over honderd, die daarbij tegenover Hem stond, ziende, dat Hij alzo roepende den geest gegeven had, zeide: Waarlijk, deze Mens was Gods Zoon! 40En er waren ook vrouwen, van verre dit aanschouwende, onder welke ook was Maria Magdalena, en Maria, de moeder van Jakobus, den kleine, en van Joses, en Salome; 41Welke ook, toen Hij in Galilea was, Hem waren gevolgd, en Hem gediend hadden; en vele andere vrouwen, die met Hem naar Jeruzalem opgekomen waren. 42En als het nu avond was geworden, dewijl het de voorbereiding was, welke is de voorsabbat; 43Kwam Jozef, die van Arimathea was, een eerlijk raadsheer, die ook zelf het Koninkrijk Gods was verwachtende, en zich verstoutende, ging hij in tot Pilatus, en begeerde het lichaam van Jezus. 44En Pilatus verwonderde zich, dat Hij alrede gestorven was; en den hoofdman over honderd tot zich geroepen hebbende, vraagde hem, of Hij lang gestorven was. 45En als hij het van den hoofdman over honderd verstaan had, schonk hij Jozef het lichaam. 46En hij kocht fijn lijnwaad, en Hem afgenomen hebbende, wond Hem in dat fijne lijnwaad, en legde Hem in een graf, hetwelk uit een steenrots gehouwen was; en hij wentelde een steen tegen de deur des grafs. 47En Maria Magdalena, en Maria, de moeder van Joses, aanschouwden, waar Hij gelegd werd.
