1AMONESTO pues, ante todas cosas, que se hagan rogativas, oraciones, peticiones, hacimientos de gracias, por todos los hombres; 2Por los reyes y por todos los que están en eminencia, para que vivamos quieta y reposadamente en toda piedad y honestidad. 3Porque esto es bueno y agradable delante de Dios nuestro Salvador; 4El cual quiere que todos los hombres sean salvos, y que vengan al conocimiento de la verdad. 5Porque hay un Dios, asimismo un mediador entre Dios y los hombres, Jesucristo hombre; 6El cual se dió á sí mismo en precio del rescate por todos, para testimonio en sus tiempos: 7De lo que yo soy puesto por predicador y apóstol, (digo verdad en Cristo, no miento) doctor de los Gentiles en fidelidad y verdad. 8Quiero, pues, que los hombres oren en todo lugar, levantando manos limpias, sin ira ni contienda. 9Asimismo también las mujeres, ataviándose en hábito honesto, con vergüenza y modestia; no con cabellos encrespados, ú oro, ó perlas, ó vestidos costosos, 10Sino de buenas obras, como conviene á mujeres que profesan piedad. 11La mujer aprenda en silencio, con toda sujeción. 12Porque no permito á la mujer enseñar, ni tomar autoridad sobre el hombre, sino estar en silencio. 13Porque Adam fué formado el primero, después Eva; 14Y Adam no fué engañado, sino la mujer, siendo seducida, vino á ser envuelta en transgresión: 15Empero se salvará engendrando hijos, si permaneciere en la fe y caridad y santidad, con modestia.
1I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: 2for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. 3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; 4who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all; the testimony in its own times; 7to which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth in Christ, not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 8I desire therefore that the men in every place pray, lifting up holy hands without anger and doubting. 9In the same way, that women also adorn themselves in decent clothing, with modesty and propriety; not just with braided hair, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing; 10but (which becomes women professing godliness) with good works. 11Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection. 12But I don’t permit a woman to teach, nor to exercise authority over a man, but to be in quietness. 13For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14Adam wasn’t deceived, but the woman, being deceived, has fallen into disobedience; 15but she will be saved through her childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and sanctification with sobriety.
1Ik vermaan dan voor alle dingen, dat gedaan worden smekingen, gebeden, voorbiddingen, dankzeggingen, voor alle mensen; 2Voor koningen, en allen, die in hoogheid zijn; opdat wij een gerust en stil leven leiden mogen in alle godzaligheid en eerbaarheid. 3Want dat is goed en aangenaam voor God, onzen Zaligmaker; 4Welke wil, dat alle mensen zalig worden, en tot kennis der waarheid komen. 5Want er is een God, er is ook een Middelaar Gods en der mensen, de Mens Christus Jezus; 6Die Zichzelven gegeven heeft tot een rantsoen voor allen, zijnde de getuigenis te zijner tijd; 7Waartoe ik gesteld ben een prediker en apostel (ik zeg de waarheid in Christus, ik lieg niet), een leraar der heidenen, in geloof en waarheid. 8Ik wil dan, dat de mannen bidden in alle plaatsen, opheffende heilige handen, zonder toorn en twisting. 9Desgelijks ook, dat de vrouwen, in een eerbaar gewaad, met schaamte en matigheid zichzelven versieren, niet in vlechtingen des haars, of goud, of paarlen, of kostelijke kleding; 10Maar (hetwelk de vrouwen betaamt, die de godvruchtigheid belijden) door goede werken. 11Een vrouw late zich leren in stilheid, in alle onderdanigheid. 12Doch ik laat de vrouw niet toe, dat zij lere, noch over den man heerse, maar wil, dat zij in stilheid zij. 13Want Adam is eerst gemaakt, daarna Eva. 14En Adam is niet verleid geworden; maar de vrouw, verleid zijnde, is in overtreding geweest. 15Doch zij zal zalig worden in kinderen te baren, zo zij blijft in het geloof, en liefde, en heiligmaking, met matigheid.
