1Αφού δε εγεννήθη ο Ιησούς εν Βηθλεέμ της Ιουδαίας επί των ημερών Ηρώδου του βασιλέως, ιδού, μάγοι από ανατολών ήλθον εις Ιεροσόλυμα, λέγοντες· 2Που είναι ο γεννηθείς βασιλεύς των Ιουδαίων; διότι είδομεν τον αστέρα αυτού εν τη ανατολή και ήλθομεν διά να προσκυνήσωμεν αυτόν. 3Ακούσας δε Ηρώδης ο βασιλεύς, εταράχθη και πάσα η Ιεροσόλυμα μετ' αυτού, 4και συνάξας πάντας τους αρχιερείς και γραμματείς του λαού, ηρώτα να μάθη παρ' αυτών που ο Χριστός γεννάται. 5Εκείνοι δε είπον προς αυτόν· Εν Βηθλεέμ της Ιουδαίας· διότι ούτως είναι γεγραμμένον διά του προφήτου· 6Και συ, Βηθλεέμ, γη Ιούδα, δεν είσαι ουδόλως ελαχίστη μεταξύ των ηγεμόνων του Ιούδα· διότι εκ σου θέλει εξέλθει ηγούμενος, όστις θέλει ποιμάνει τον λαόν μου τον Ισραήλ. 7Τότε ο Ηρώδης καλέσας κρυφίως τους μάγους εξηκρίβωσε παρ' αυτών τον καιρόν του φαινομένου αστέρος, 8και πέμψας αυτούς εις Βηθλεέμ, είπε· Πορευθέντες ακριβώς εξετάσατε περί του παιδίου, αφού δε εύρητε, απαγγείλατέ μοι, διά να έλθω και εγώ να προσκυνήσω αυτό. 9Εκείνοι δε ακούσαντες του βασιλέως ανεχώρησαν· και ιδού, ο αστήρ τον οποίον είδον εν τη ανατολή προεπορεύετο αυτών, εωσού ελθών εστάθη επάνω όπου ήτο το παιδίον. 10Ιδόντες δε τον αστέρα εχάρησαν χαράν μεγάλην σφόδρα, 11και ελθόντες εις την οικίαν εύρον το παιδίον μετά Μαρίας της μητρός αυτού, και πεσόντες προσεκύνησαν αυτό, και ανοίξαντες τους θησαυρούς αυτών προσέφεραν εις αυτό δώρα, χρυσόν και λίβανον και σμύρναν· 12και αποκαλυφθέντες θεόθεν κατ' όναρ να μη επιστρέψωσι προς τον Ηρώδην, δι' άλλης οδού ανεχώρησαν εις την χώραν αυτών. 13Αφού δε αυτοί ανεχώρησαν, ιδού, άγγελος Κυρίου φαίνεται κατ' όναρ εις τον Ιωσήφ, λέγων· Εγερθείς παράλαβε το παιδίον και την μητέρα αυτού και φεύγε εις Αίγυπτον, και έσο εκεί εωσού είπω σοι· διότι μέλλει ο Ηρώδης να ζητήση το παιδίον, διά να απολέση αυτό. 14Ο δε εγερθείς παρέλαβε το παιδίον και την μητέρα αυτού διά νυκτός και ανεχώρησεν εις Αίγυπτον, 15και ήτο εκεί έως της τελευτής του Ηρώδου, διά να πληρωθή το ρηθέν υπό του Κυρίου διά του προφήτου λέγοντος· Εξ Αιγύπτου εκάλεσα τον υιόν μου. 16Τότε ο Ηρώδης, ιδών ότι ενεπαίχθη υπό των μάγων, εθυμώθη σφόδρα και αποστείλας εφόνευσε πάντας τους παίδας τους εν Βηθλεέμ και εν πάσι τοις ορίοις αυτής από δύο ετών και κατωτέρω κατά τον καιρόν, τον οποίον εξηκρίβωσε παρά των μάγων. 17Τότε επληρώθη το ρηθέν υπό Ιερεμίου του προφήτου, λέγοντος· 18Φωνή ηκούσθη εν Ραμά, θρήνος και κλαυθμός και οδυρμός πολύς· η Ραχήλ έκλαιε τα τέκνα αυτής, και δεν ήθελε να παρηγορηθή, διότι δεν υπάρχουσι. 19Τελευτήσαντος δε του Ηρώδου ιδού, άγγελος Κυρίου φαίνεται κατ' όναρ εις τον Ιωσήφ εν Αιγύπτω, 20λέγων· Εγερθείς παράλαβε το παιδίον και την μητέρα αυτού και ύπαγε εις γην Ισραήλ· διότι απέθανον οι ζητούντες την ψυχήν του παιδίου. 21Ο δε εγερθείς παρέλαβε το παιδίον και την μητέρα αυτού και ήλθεν εις γην Ισραήλ. 22Ακούσας δε ότι ο Αρχέλαος βασιλεύει επί της Ιουδαίας αντί Ηρώδου του πατρός αυτού, εφοβήθη να υπάγη εκεί· αποκαλυφθείς δε θεόθεν κατ' όναρ ανεχώρησεν εις τα μέρη της Γαλιλαίας, 23και ελθών κατώκησεν εις πόλιν λεγομένην Ναζαρέτ, διά να πληρωθή το ρηθέν διά των προφητών· ότι Ναζωραίος θέλει ονομασθή.
1Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, 2“Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him.” 3When King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born. 5They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is written through the prophet, 6‘You Bethlehem, land of Judah, are in no way least among the princes of Judah: for out of you shall come a governor, who shall shepherd my people, Israel.’” 7Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared. 8He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, “Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him.” 9They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over where the young child was. 10When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. 11They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 12Being warned in a dream that they shouldn’t return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way. 13Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.” 14He arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt, 15and was there until the death of Herod; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called my son.” 16Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly angry, and sent out, and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learned from the wise men. 17Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying, 18“A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; she wouldn’t be comforted, because they are no more.” 19But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, 20“Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child’s life are dead.” 21He arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel. 22But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee, 23and came and lived in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets: “He will be called a Nazarene.”
1Toen nu Jezus geboren was te Bethlehem, gelegen in Judea, in de dagen van den koning Herodes, ziet, enige wijzen van het Oosten zijn te Jeruzalem aangekomen. 2Zeggende: Waar is de geboren Koning der Joden? want wij hebben gezien Zijn ster in het Oosten, en zijn gekomen om Hem te aanbidden. 3De koning Herodes nu, dit gehoord hebbende, werd ontroerd, en geheel Jeruzalem, met hem. 4En bijeenvergaderd hebbende al de overpriesters en Schriftgeleerden des volks, vraagde van hen, waar de Christus zou geboren worden. 5En zij zeiden tot hem: Te Bethlehem, in Judea gelegen; want alzo is geschreven door den profeet: 6En gij Bethlehem, gij land Juda! zijt geenszins de minste onder de vorsten van Juda; want uit u zal de Leidsman voortkomen, Die Mijn volk Israel weiden zal. 7Toen heeft Herodes de wijzen heimelijk geroepen, en vernam naarstiglijk van hen den tijd, wanneer de ster verschenen was; 8En hen naar Bethlehem zendende, zeide: Reist heen, en onderzoekt naarstiglijk naar dat Kindeken, en als gij Het zult gevonden hebben, boodschapt het mij, opdat ik ook kome en Datzelve aanbidde. 9En zij, den koning gehoord hebbende, zijn heengereisd; en ziet, de ster, die zij in het oosten gezien hadden, ging hun voor, totdat zij kwam en stond boven de plaats, waar het Kindeken was. 10Als zij nu de ster zagen, verheugden zij zich met zeer grote vreugde. 11En in het huis gekomen zijnde, vonden zij het Kindeken met Maria, Zijn moeder, en nedervallende hebben zij Hetzelve aangebeden; en hun schatten opengedaan hebbende, brachten zij Hem geschenken: goud en wierook, en mirre. 12En door Goddelijke openbaring vermaand zijnde in den droom, dat zij niet zouden wederkeren tot Herodes, vertrokken zij door een anderen weg weder naar hun land. 13Toen zij nu vertrokken waren, ziet, de engel des Heeren verschijnt Jozef in den droom, zeggende: Sta op, en neem tot u het Kindeken en Zijn moeder, en vlied in Egypte, en wees aldaar, totdat ik het u zeggen zal; want Herodes zal het Kindeken zoeken, om Hetzelve te doden. 14Hij dan opgestaan zijnde, nam het Kindeken en Zijn moeder tot zich in den nacht, en vertrok naar Egypte; 15En was aldaar tot den dood van Herodes; opdat vervuld zou worden hetgeen van den Heere gesproken is door den profeet, zeggende: Uit Egypte heb Ik Mijn Zoon geroepen. 16Als Herodes zag, dat hij van de wijzen bedrogen was, toen werd hij zeer toornig, en enigen afgezonden hebbende, heeft omgebracht al de kinderen, die binnen Bethlehem, en in al deszelfs landpalen waren, van twee jaren oud en daaronder, naar den tijd, dien hij van de wijzen naarstiglijk onderzocht had. 17Toen is vervuld geworden, hetgeen gesproken is door den profeet Jeremia, zeggende: 18Een stem is in Rama gehoord, geklag, geween en veel gekerm; Rachel beweende haar kinderen, en wilde niet vertroost wezen, omdat zij niet zijn! 19Toen Herodes nu gestorven was, ziet, de engel des Heeren verschijnt Jozef in den droom, in Egypte. 20Zeggende: Sta op, neem het Kindeken en Zijn moeder tot u, en trek in het land Israels; want zij zijn gestorven, die de ziel van het Kindeken zochten. 21Hij dan, opgestaan zijnde, heeft tot zich genomen het Kindeken en Zijn moeder, en is gekomen in het land Israels. 22Maar als hij hoorde, dat Archelaus in Judea koning was, in de plaats van zijn vader Herodes, vreesde hij daarheen te gaan; maar door Goddelijke openbaring vermaand in den droom, is hij vertrokken in de delen van Galilea. 23En daar gekomen zijnde, nam hij zijn woonplaats in de stad, genaamd Nazareth; opdat vervuld zou worden, wat door de profeten gezegd is, dat Hij Nazarener zal geheten worden.
