1Η δε Ιεριχώ ήτο συγκεκλεισμένη και ωχυρωμένη εξ αιτίας των υιών Ισραήλ· ουδείς εξήρχετο και ουδείς εισήρχετο. 2Και είπε Κύριος προς τον Ιησούν, Ιδού, παρέδωκα εις την χείρα σου την Ιεριχώ και τον βασιλέα αυτής και τους δυνατούς εν ισχύϊ. 3Και θέλετε περιέλθει την πόλιν, πάντες οι άνδρες του πολέμου, κύκλω της πόλεως άπαξ· ούτω θέλεις κάμνει εξ ημέρας. 4Και επτά ιερείς θέλουσι βαστάζει έμπροσθεν της κιβωτού επτά σάλπιγγας κερατίνας· και την εβδόμην ημέραν θέλετε περιέλθει την πόλιν επτάκις· και οι ιερείς θέλουσι σαλπίζει με τας σάλπιγγας. 5Και όταν σαλπίσωσι με την κερατίνην επεκτείνοντες, καθώς ακούσητε τον ήχον της σάλπιγγος, πας ο λαός θέλει αλαλάξει μέγαν αλαλαγμόν, και θέλει καταπέσει το τείχος της πόλεως υφ' εαυτό, και ο λαός θέλει αναβή, έκαστος κατ' ενώπιον αυτού. 6Και εκάλεσεν Ιησούς ο υιός του Ναυή τους ιερείς και είπε προς αυτούς, Λάβετε την κιβωτόν της διαθήκης, και επτά ιερείς ας βαστάζωσιν επτά σάλπιγγας κερατίνας έμπροσθεν της κιβωτού του Κυρίου. 7Και είπε προς τον λαόν, Περάσατε και περιέλθετε την πόλιν, και οι ώπλισμένοι ας περάσωσιν έμπροσθεν της κιβωτού του Κυρίου. 8Και αφού ο Ιησούς ελάλησε προς τον λαόν, οι επτά ιερείς βαστάζοντες τας επτά κερατίνας σάλπιγγας έμπροσθεν του Κυρίου επέρασαν και εσάλπιζον με τας σάλπιγγας, και η κιβωτός της διαθήκης του Κυρίου ηκολούθει αυτούς. 9Και οι ώπλισμένοι προεπορεύοντο των ιερέων, των σαλπιζόντων με τας σάλπιγγας, και η οπισθοφυλακή ηκολούθει όπισθεν της κιβωτού, ενώ οι ιερείς προχωρούντες εσάλπιζον με τας σάλπιγγας. 10Και προσέταξεν ο Ιησούς τον λαόν, λέγων, Δεν θέλετε αλαλάξει, ουδέ θέλει ακουσθή η φωνή σας, ουδέ θέλει εξέλθει λόγος εκ του στόματός σας, μέχρι της ημέρας καθ' ην θέλω σας ειπεί να αλαλάξητε· τότε θέλετε αλαλάξει. 11Και η κιβωτός του Κυρίου περιήλθε την πόλιν κύκλω άπαξ· και ήλθον εις το στρατόπεδον και διενυκτέρευσαν εν τω στρατοπέδω. 12Και εξηγέρθη ο Ιησούς το πρωΐ, και οι ιερείς εσήκωσαν την κιβωτόν του Κυρίου· 13και οι επτά ιερείς, βαστάζοντες τας επτά κερατίνας σάλπιγγας, προεπορεύοντο της κιβωτού του Κυρίου, πορευόμενοι και σαλπίζοντες με τας σάλπιγγας· και έμπροσθεν αυτών επορεύοντο οι ώπλισμένοι· η δε οπισθοφυλακή ηκολούθει όπισθεν της κιβωτού του Κυρίου, ενώ οι ιερείς προχωρούντες εσάλπιζον με τας σάλπιγγας. 14Και την δευτέραν ημέραν περιήλθον την πόλιν άπαξ, και επέστρεψαν εις το στρατόπεδον· ούτως έκαμνον εξ ημέρας. 15Και την εβδόμην ημέραν εξηγέρθησαν περί τα χαράγματα και περιήλθον την πόλιν επτάκις κατά τον αυτόν τρόπον· μόνον εν ταύτη τη ημέρα περιήλθον την πόλιν επτάκις. 16Και εις την εβδόμην φοράν, ενώ εσάλπιζον οι ιερείς με τας σάλπιγγας, είπεν ο Ιησούς προς τον λαόν, Αλαλάξατε· διότι ο Κύριος παρέδωκεν εις εσάς την πόλιν· 17και η πόλις θέλει είσθαι ανάθεμα εις τον Κύριον, αυτή και πάντα τα εν αυτή· εις μόνην την Ραάβ την πόρνην θέλει φυλαχθή η ζωή, εις αυτήν και εις πάντας τους όντας εν τη οικία μετ' αυτής· διότι έκρυψε τους κατασκόπους, τους οποίους απεστείλαμεν· 18σεις όμως φυλάχθητε από του αναθέματος, διά να μη γείνητε ανάθεμα, λαμβάνοντες από του αναθέματος, και καταστήσητε το στρατόπεδον του Ισραήλ ανάθεμα και ταράξητε αυτό· 19άπαν δε το αργύριον και το χρυσίον και τα σκεύη τα χάλκινα και τα σιδηρά είναι αφιερωμένα εις τον Κύριον· εις το θησαυροφυλάκιον του Κυρίου θέλουσιν εισαχθή. 20Και ηλάλαξεν ο λαός, ότε εσάλπισαν με τας σάλπιγγας· και ως ήκουσεν ο λαός την φωνήν των σαλπίγγων, τότε ηλάλαξεν ο λαός αλαλαγμόν μέγαν, και κατέπεσε το τείχος υφ' εαυτό, και ανέβη ο λαός εις την πόλιν, έκαστος κατ' ενώπιον αυτού, και εκυρίευσαν την πόλιν. 21Και εξωλόθρευσαν εν στόματι μαχαίρας πάντας τους εν τη πόλει, άνδρας και γυναίκας, νέους και γέροντας, και βόας και πρόβατα και όνους. 22Είπε δε ο Ιησούς προς τους δύο άνδρας, τους κατασκοπεύσαντας την γην, Εισέλθετε εις την οικίαν της πόρνης και εξαγάγετε εκείθεν την γυναίκα, και πάντα όσα έχει, καθώς ώμόσατε προς αυτήν. 23Και εισήλθον οι νέοι οι κατάσκοποι και εξήγαγον την Ραάβ και τον πατέρα αυτής και την μητέρα αυτής και τους αδελφούς αυτής, και πάντα όσα είχε· και εξήγαγον πάσαν την συγγένειαν αυτής και εφύλαξαν αυτούς έξω του στρατοπέδου του Ισραήλ. 24Και κατέκαυσαν την πόλιν εν πυρί και πάντα τα εν αυτή· μόνον το αργύριον και το χρυσίον και τα σκεύη τα χάλκινα και τα σιδηρά έδωκαν εις το θησαυροφυλάκιον του οίκου του Κυρίου. 25Και εις την Ραάβ την πόρνην και εις την οικογένειαν του πατρός αυτής και εις πάντα όσα είχε, ο Ιησούς εφύλαξε την ζωήν· και κατοικεί εν τω μέσω του Ισραήλ έως της σήμερον· διότι έκρυψε τους κατασκόπους, τους οποίους απέστειλεν ο Ιησούς διά να κατασκοπεύσωσι την Ιεριχώ. 26Και ώμοσεν ο Ιησούς κατ' εκείνον τον καιρόν, λέγων, Κατηραμένος ενώπιον του Κυρίου ο άνθρωπος, όστις αναστήση και κτίση την πόλιν ταύτην την Ιεριχώ· με τον θάνατον του πρωτοτόκου υιού αυτού θέλει βάλει τα θεμέλια αυτής, και με τον θάνατον του νεωτάτου υιού αυτού θέλει στήσει τας πύλας αυτής. 27Και ο Κύριος ήτο μετά του Ιησού, και το όνομα αυτού διεφημίσθη καθ' όλην την γην.
1Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the children of Israel. No one went out, and no one came in. 2Yahweh said to Joshua, “Behold, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and the mighty men of valor. 3All your men of war shall march around the city, going around the city once. You shall do this six days. 4Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. On the seventh day, you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 5It shall be that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up every man straight before him.” 6Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before Yahweh’s ark.” 7They said to the people, “Advance! March around the city, and let the armed men pass on before Yahweh’s ark.” 8It was so, that when Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before Yahweh advanced, and blew the trumpets; and the ark of the covenant of Yahweh followed them. 9The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the ark went after them. The trumpets sounded as they went. 10Joshua commanded the people, saying, “You shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shall shout.” 11So he caused Yahweh’s ark to go around the city, going about it once. Then they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp. 12Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up Yahweh’s ark. 13The seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before Yahweh’s ark went on continually, and blew the trumpets: and the armed men went before them. The rear guard came after Yahweh’s ark. The trumpets sounded as they went. 14The second day they marched around the city once, and returned into the camp. They did this six days. 15On the seventh day, they rose early at the dawning of the day, and marched around the city in the same way seven times. Only on this day they marched around the city seven times. 16At the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, “Shout, for Yahweh has given you the city! 17The city shall be devoted, even it and all that is in it, to Yahweh. Only Rahab the prostitute shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. 18But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devoted thing, lest when you have devoted it, you take of the devoted thing; so would you make the camp of Israel accursed, and trouble it. 19But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are holy to Yahweh. They shall come into Yahweh’s treasury.” 20So the people shouted, and the priests blew the trumpets. When the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. 21They utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, and sheep, and donkey, with the edge of the sword. 22Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the prostitute’s house, and bring out from there the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her.” 23The young men who were spies went in, and brought out Rahab with her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. They also brought out all her relatives, and they set them outside of the camp of Israel. 24They burnt the city with fire, and all that was in it. Only they put the silver, the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron into the treasury of Yahweh’s house. 25But Rahab the prostitute, her father’s household, and all that she had, Joshua saved alive. She lived in the midst of Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers, whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho. 26Joshua commanded them with an oath at that time, saying, “Cursed is the man before Yahweh, who rises up and builds this city Jericho. With the loss of his firstborn shall he lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son shall he set up its gates.” 27So Yahweh was with Joshua; and his fame was in all the land.

Alzo deden zij zes dagen lang. 15En het geschiedde op den zevenden dag, dat zij zich vroeg opmaakten, met het opgaan des dageraads, en zij gingen rondom de stad, naar dezelve wijze, zevenmaal; alleenlijk op dien dag gingen zij zevenmaal rondom de stad. 16En het geschiedde ten zevenden male, als de priesters met de bazuinen bliezen, dat Jozua tot het volk sprak: Juicht, want de HEERE heeft ulieden de stad gegeven! 17Doch deze stad zal den HEERE verbannen zijn, zij en al wat daarin is; alleenlijk zal de hoer Rachab levend blijven, zij en allen, die met haar in het huis zijn, omdat zij de boden, die wij uitgezonden hadden, verborgen heeft. 18Alleenlijk dat gijlieden u wacht van het verbannene, opdat gij u misschien niet verbant, mits nemende van het verbannene, en het leger van Israel niet stelt tot een ban, noch datzelve beroert. 19Maar al het zilver en goud, en de koperen en ijzeren vaten, zullen den HEERE heilig zijn; tot den schat des HEEREN zullen zij komen. 20Het volk dan juichte, als zij met de bazuinen bliezen; en het geschiedde, als het volk het geluid der bazuin hoorde, zo juichte het volk met een groot gejuich; en de muur viel onder zich, en het volk klom in de stad, een ieder tegenover zich, en zij namen de stad in. 21En zij verbanden alles, wat in de stad was, van den man tot de vrouw toe, van het kind tot den oude, en tot den os, en het klein vee, en den ezel, door de scherpte des zwaards. 22Jozua nu zeide tot de twee mannen, de verspieders des lands: Gaat in het huis der vrouw, der hoer, en brengt die vrouw van daar uit, met al wat zij heeft, gelijk als gij haar gezworen hebt. 23Toen gingen de jongelingen, de verspieders, daarin en brachten er Rachab uit, en haar vader, en haar moeder, en haar broeders, en al wat zij had; ook brachten zij uit al haar huisgezinnen, en zij stelden hen buiten het leger van Israel. 24De stad nu verbrandden zij met vuur, en al wat daarin was; alleenlijk het zilver en goud, mitsgaders de koperen en ijzeren vaten, gaven zij tot den schat van het huis des HEEREN. 25Dus liet Jozua de hoer Rachab leven, en het huisgezin haars vaders, en al wat zij had; en zij heeft gewoond in het midden van Israel tot op dezen dag, omdat zij de boden verborgen had, die Jozua gezonden had, om Jericho te verspieden. 26En ter zelver tijd bezwoer hen Jozua, zeggende: Vervloekt zij die man voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, die zich opmaken en deze stad Jericho bouwen zal; dat hij ze grondveste op zijn eerstgeborenen zoon, en haar poorten stelle op zijn jongsten zoon! 27Alzo was de HEERE met Jozua; en zijn gerucht liep door het ganse land.
