1Και ως ήκουσεν Ιαβείν ο βασιλεύς της Ασώρ, απέστειλε προς τον Ιωβάβ βασιλέα της Μαδών και προς τον βασιλέα της Σιμβρών και προς τον βασιλέα της Αχσάφ, 2και προς τους βασιλείς τους προς βορράν, εις την ορεινήν και εις την πεδινήν, κατέναντι της Χιννερώθ, και εις την κοιλάδα και εις Νάφαθ-δωρ προς δυσμάς, 3και προς τους Χαναναίους τους προς ανατολάς και δυσμάς, και προς τους Αμορραίους και τους Χετταίους και τους Φερεζαίους και τους Ιεβουσαίους τους εν τη ορεινή, και προς τους Ευαίους τους υπό την Αερμών εν τη γη Μισπά. 4Και εξήλθον, αυτοί και πάντα τα στρατεύματα αυτών μετ' αυτών, λαός πολύς ως η άμμος η παρά το χείλος της θαλάσσης κατά το πλήθος, μεθ' ίππων και αμαξών πολλών σφόδρα. 5Και συναχθέντες πάντες ούτοι οι βασιλείς, ήλθον και εστρατοπέδευσαν ομού πλησίον των υδάτων Μερώμ, διά να πολεμήσωσι τον Ισραήλ. 6Και είπε Κύριος προς τον Ιησούν, Μη φοβηθής από προσώπου αυτών· διότι αύριον, περί την ώραν ταύτην, εγώ θέλω παραδώσει αυτούς πάντας πεφονευμένους έμπροσθεν του Ισραήλ· τους ίππους αυτών θέλεις νευροκοπήσει και τας αμάξας αυτών θέλεις κατακαύσει εν πυρί. 7Και υπήγεν εξαίφνης ο Ιησούς, και πας ο πολεμιστής λαός μετ' αυτού, εναντίον αυτών εις τα ύδατα Μερώμ, και επέπεσον επ' αυτούς. 8Και παρέδωκεν αυτούς ο Κύριος εις την χείρα του Ισραήλ, και επάταξεν αυτούς και κατεδίωξεν αυτούς έως της μεγάλης Σιδώνος· και έως Μισρεφώθ-μαΐμ και έως της κοιλάδος Μισπά προς ανατολάς· και επάταξαν αυτούς, εωσού δεν αφήκαν εις αυτούς υπόλοιπον. 9Και έκαμεν ο Ιησούς εις αυτούς καθώς προσέταξεν εις αυτόν ο Κύριος· τους ίππους αυτών ενευροκόπησε και τας αμάξας αυτών κατέκαυσεν εν πυρί. 10Και έστρεψεν ο Ιησούς κατά τον αυτόν καιρόν και εκυρίευσε την Ασώρ και επάταξε τον βασιλέα αυτής εν μαχαίρα· διότι η Ασώρ ήτο πρότερον η πρωτεύουσα πασών των βασιλειών τούτων. 11Και πάσας τας ψυχάς τας εν αυτή επάταξαν εν στόματι μαχαίρας και εξωλόθρευσαν αυτούς· δεν έμεινεν ουδέν έχον πνοήν· και την Ασώρ κατέκαυσεν εν πυρί. 12Και πάσας τας πόλεις των βασιλέων εκείνων και πάντας τους βασιλείς αυτών συνέλαβεν ο Ιησούς και επάταξεν αυτούς εν στόματι μαχαίρας· εξωλόθρευσεν αυτούς, καθώς προσέταξε Μωϋσής ο δούλος του Κυρίου. 13Πάσας δε τας πόλεις, όσαι έμενον μετά των προχωμάτων αυτών, δεν έκαυσεν αυτάς ο Ισραήλ, εκτός μόνην την Ασώρ κατέκαυσεν ο Ιησούς. 14Και πάντα τα λάφυρα των πόλεων τούτων και τα κτήνη ελαφυραγώγησαν εις εαυτούς οι υιοί Ισραήλ· τους δε ανθρώπους πάντας επάταξαν εν στόματι μαχαίρας, εωσού εξωλόθρευσαν αυτούς· δεν αφήκαν ουδέν έχον πνοήν. 15Καθώς προσέταξεν ο Κύριος εις τον Μωϋσήν τον δούλον αυτού, ούτω προσέταξεν ο Μωϋσής τον Ιησούν, και ούτως έκαμεν ο Ιησούς· δεν παρέβη ουδέν εκ πάντων όσα προσέταξεν ο Κύριος εις τον Μωϋσήν. 16Και εκυρίευσεν ο Ιησούς πάσαν εκείνην την γην, την ορεινήν, και πάσαν την μεσημβρινήν, και πάσαν την γην Γεσέν, και την κοιλάδα και την πεδινήν, και το όρος του Ισραήλ και την κοιλάδα αυτού, 17από του όρους Αλάκ, του αναβαίνοντος προς την Σηείρ, έως Βάαλ-γαδ εις την κοιλάδα του Λιβάνου, υπό το όρος Αερμών· και συνέλαβε πάντας τους βασιλείς αυτών και επάταξεν αυτούς και εθανάτωσεν αυτούς. 18Πολύν καιρόν επολέμει ο Ιησούς προς πάντας τούτους τους βασιλείς. 19Δεν ήτο πόλις ήτις έκαμεν ειρήνην μετά των υιών Ισραήλ, εκτός των Ευαίων των κατοικούντων εν Γαβαών· πάσας εκυρίευσαν εν πολέμω· 20διότι παρά Κυρίου έγεινε το να σκληρυνθώσιν αι καρδίαι αυτών, να έλθωσιν εις μάχην κατά του Ισραήλ, διά να εξολοθρευθώσι, να μη γείνη εις αυτούς έλεος, αλλά να εξαφανισθώσι, καθώς ο Κύριος προσέταξεν εις τον Μωϋσήν. 21Και ήλθεν ο Ιησούς κατ' εκείνον τον καιρόν, και ηφάνισε τους Ανακείμ από των ορέων, από Χεβρών, από Δεβείρ, από Ανάβ και από πάντων των ορέων του Ιούδα και από πάντων των ορέων του Ισραήλ· εξωλόθρευσεν αυτούς ο Ιησούς μετά των πόλεων αυτών. 22Δεν έμεινον Ανακείμ εν τη γη των υιών Ισραήλ· μόνον εν τη Γάζη, εν τη Γαθ και εν τη Αζώτω έμεινον. 23Και εκυρίευσεν ο Ιησούς πάσαν την γην κατά πάντα όσα είπεν ο Κύριος προς τον Μωϋσήν· και έδωκεν αυτήν ο Ιησούς εις τον Ισραήλ κληρονομίαν, κατά τον διαμερισμόν αυτών εις τας φυλάς αυτών. 1When Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph, 2and to the kings who were on the north, in the hill country, in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor on the west, 3to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah. 4They went out, they and all their armies with them, many people, even as the sand that is on the seashore in multitude, with very many horses and chariots. 5All these kings met together; and they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel. 6Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t be afraid because of them; for tomorrow at this time, I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.” 7So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fell on them. 8Yahweh delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they struck them, and chased them to great Sidon, and to Misrephoth Maim, and to the valley of Mizpah eastward. They struck them until they left them no one remaining. 9Joshua did to them as Yahweh told him. He hamstrung their horses and burnt their chariots with fire. 10Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and struck its king with the sword: for Hazor used to be the head of all those kingdoms. 11They struck all the souls who were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them. There was no one left who breathed. He burnt Hazor with fire. 12Joshua captured all the cities of those kings, with their kings, and he struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded. 13But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, except Hazor only. Joshua burned that. 14The children of Israel took all the plunder of these cities, with the livestock, as plunder for themselves; but every man they struck with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them. They didn’t leave any who breathed. 15As Yahweh commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua. Joshua did so. He left nothing undone of all that Yahweh commanded Moses. 16So Joshua captured all that land, the hill country, all the South, all the land of Goshen, the lowland, the Arabah, the hill country of Israel, and the lowland of the same; 17from Mount Halak, that goes up to Seir, even to Baal Gad in the valley of Lebanon under Mount Hermon. He took all their kings, struck them, and put them to death. 18Joshua made war a long time with all those kings. 19There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took all in battle. 20For it was of Yahweh to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Yahweh commanded Moses. 21Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel: Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities. 22There were none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel. Only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain. 23So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Yahweh spoke to Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. The land had rest from war.

En het land rustte van den krijg.
