Και έκαμον ούτω. 5Ανηγγέλθη δε προς τον βασιλέα της Αιγύπτου ότι έφυγεν ο λαός· και η καρδία του Φαραώ και των θεραπόντων αυτού μετεβλήθη κατά του λαού και είπον, Διά τι εκάμομεν τούτο, ώστε να εξαποστείλωμεν τον Ισραήλ και να μη μας δουλεύη πλέον; 6Έζευξε λοιπόν την άμαξαν αυτού και παρέλαβε τον λαόν αυτού μεθ' εαυτού· 7έλαβε δε εξακοσίας αμάξας εκλεκτάς, και πάσας τας αμάξας της Αιγύπτου, και αρχηγούς επί πάντων. 8Και εσκλήρυνε Κύριος την καρδίαν Φαραώ του βασιλέως της Αιγύπτου, και κατεδίωξεν οπίσω των υιών Ισραήλ· οι δε υιοί Ισραήλ εξήρχοντο διά χειρός υψηλής. 9Και κατεδίωξαν οι Αιγύπτιοι οπίσω αυτών, πάντες οι ίπποι, αι άμαξαι του Φαραώ, και οι ιππείς αυτού, και το στράτευμα αυτού· και έφθασαν αυτούς εστρατοπεδευμένους πλησίον της θαλάσσης απέναντι Πι-αϊρώθ, κατάντικρυ Βέελ-σεφών. 10Και ότε επλησίασεν ο Φαραώ, οι υιοί Ισραήλ ύψωσαν τους οφθαλμούς αυτών, και ιδού, οι Αιγύπτιοι ήρχοντο οπίσω αυτών· και εφοβήθησαν σφόδρα· και ανεβόησαν οι υιοί Ισραήλ προς τον Κύριον. 11Και είπον προς τον Μωϋσήν, Διότι δεν ήσαν μνήματα εν Αιγύπτω, εξήγαγες ημάς διά να αποθάνωμεν εν τη ερήμω; Διά τι έκαμες εις ημάς τούτο και εξήγαγες ημάς εξ Αιγύπτου; 12δεν είναι ούτος ο λόγος τον οποίον σοι είπομεν εν Αιγύπτω, λέγοντες, Άφες ημάς και ας δουλεύωμεν τους Αιγυπτίους; διότι καλήτερον ήτο εις ημάς να δουλεύωμεν τους Αιγυπτίους, παρά να αποθάνωμεν εν τη ερήμω. 13Και είπεν ο Μωϋσής προς τον λαόν, Μη φοβείσθε· σταθήτε και βλέπετε την σωτήριαν του Κυρίου, την οποίαν θέλει κάμει εις εσάς σήμερον· διότι τους Αιγυπτίους, τους οποίους είδετε σήμερον, δεν θέλετε ιδεί αυτούς πλέον εις τον αιώνα· 14ο Κύριος θέλει πολεμήσει διά σάς· σεις δε θέλετε μένει ήσυχοι. 15Και είπε Κύριος προς τον Μωϋσήν, Τι βοάς προς εμέ; ειπέ προς τους υιούς Ισραήλ να κινήσωσι· 16συ δε ύψωσον την ράβδον σου και έκτεινον την χείρα σου επί την θάλασσαν και σχίσον αυτήν, και ας διέλθωσιν οι υιοί Ισραήλ διά ξηράς εν μέσω της θαλάσσης· 17και εγώ, ιδού, θέλω σκληρύνει την καρδίαν των Αιγυπτίων, και θέλουσιν εμβή κατόπιν αυτών· και θέλω δοξασθή επί τον Φαραώ και επί παν το στράτευμα αυτού, επί τας αμάξας αυτού και επί τους ιππείς αυτού· 18και θέλουσι γνωρίσει οι Αιγύπτιοι ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος, όταν δοξασθώ επί τον Φαραώ, επί τας αμάξας αυτού και επί τους ιππείς αυτού. 19Τότε ο άγγελος του Θεού, ο προπορευόμενος του στρατεύματος του Ισραήλ, εσηκώθη και ήλθεν οπίσω αυτών· και ο στύλος της νεφέλης εσηκώθη απ' έμπροσθεν αυτών, και εστάθη όπισθεν αυτών· 20και ήλθε μεταξύ του στρατεύματος των Αιγυπτίων και του στρατεύματος του Ισραήλ· και εις εκείνους μεν ήτο νέφος σκοτίζον, εις τούτους δε φωτίζον την νύκτα· ώστε το εν δεν επλησίασε το άλλο καθ' όλην την νύκτα. 21Ο δε Μωϋσής εξέτεινε την χείρα αυτού επί την θάλασσαν· και έκαμεν ο Κύριος την θάλασσαν να συρθή όλην εκείνην την νύκτα υπό σφοδρού ανατολικού ανέμου και κατέστησε την θάλασσαν ξηράν, και τα ύδατα διεχωρίσθησαν. 22Και εισήλθον οι υιοί του Ισραήλ εις το μέσον της θαλάσσης κατά το ξηρόν, και τα ύδατα ήσαν εις αυτούς τοίχος εκ δεξιών και εξ αριστερών αυτών. 23Κατεδίωξαν δε οι Αιγύπτιοι και εισήλθον κατόπιν αυτών, πάντες οι ίπποι του Φαραώ, αι άμαξαι αυτού και οι ιππείς αυτού, εν τω μέσω της θαλάσσης. 24Και εν τη φυλακή τη πρωϊνή επέβλεψεν ο Κύριος εκ του στύλου του πυρός και της νεφέλης επί το στράτευμα των Αιγυπτίων και συνετάραξε το στράτευμα των Αιγυπτίων· 25και εξέβαλε τους τροχούς των αμαξών αυτών, ώστε εσύροντο δυσκόλως· και είπον οι Αιγύπτιοι, Ας φύγωμεν απ' έμπροσθεν του Ισραήλ, διότι ο Κύριος πολεμεί τους Αιγυπτίους υπέρ αυτών. 26Ο δε Κύριος είπε προς τον Μωϋσήν, Έκτεινον την χείρα σου επί την θάλασσαν, και ας επαναστρέψωσι τα ύδατα επί τους Αιγυπτίους, επί τας αμάξας αυτών και επί τους ιππείς αυτών. 27Και εξέτεινεν ο Μωϋσής την χείρα αυτού επί την θάλασσαν· και η θάλασσα επανέλαβε την ορμήν αυτής περί την αυγήν· οι δε Αιγύπτιοι φεύγοντες απήντησαν αυτήν· και κατέστρεψε Κύριος τους Αιγυπτίους εν τω μέσω της θαλάσσης· 28διότι τα ύδατα επαναστρέψαντα εσκέπασαν τας αμάξας και τους ιππείς, παν το στράτευμα του Φαραώ, το οποίον είχεν εμβή κατόπιν αυτών εις την θάλασσαν· δεν έμεινεν εξ αυτών ουδέ εις. 29Οι δε υιοί Ισραήλ επέρασαν διά ξηράς εν μέσω της θαλάσσης· και τα ύδατα ήσαν εις αυτούς τοίχος εκ δεξιών αυτών και εξ αριστερών αυτών. 30Και έσωσε Κύριος εν τη ημέρα εκείνη τον Ισραήλ εκ χειρός των Αιγυπτίων· και είδεν ο Ισραήλ τους Αιγυπτίους νεκρούς επί το χείλος της θαλάσσης. 31Και είδεν ο Ισραήλ το μέγα εκείνο έργον, το οποίον έκαμεν ο Κύριος επί τους Αιγυπτίους· και εφοβήθη ο λαός τον Κύριον, και επίστευσεν εις τον Κύριον, και εις τον Μωϋσήν τον θεράποντα αυτού.
1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2“Speak to the children of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal Zephon. You shall encamp opposite it by the sea. 3Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, ‘They are entangled in the land. The wilderness has shut them in.’ 4I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will follow after them; and I will get honor over Pharaoh, and over all his armies; and the Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh.” They did so. 5It was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled; and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was changed towards the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?” 6He prepared his chariot, and took his army with him; 7and he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over all of them. 8Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel; for the children of Israel went out with a high hand. 9The Egyptians pursued after them: all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen, and his army; and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baal Zephon. 10When Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were very afraid. The children of Israel cried out to Yahweh. 11They said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you treated us this way, to bring us out of Egypt? 12Isn’t this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, ‘Leave us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians?’ For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.” 13Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will work for you today: for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall never see them again. 14Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still.” 15Yahweh said to Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Speak to the children of Israel, that they go forward. 16Lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go into the midst of the sea on dry ground. 17Behold, I myself will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall go in after them: and I will get myself honor over Pharaoh, and over all his armies, over his chariots, and over his horsemen. 18The Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh, when I have gotten myself honor over Pharaoh, over his chariots, and over his horsemen.” 19The angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them, and stood behind them. 20It came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness, yet gave it light by night: and the one didn’t come near the other all the night. 21Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all the night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22The children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. 23The Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the midst of the sea: all of Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. 24In the morning watch, Yahweh looked out on the Egyptian army through the pillar of fire and of cloud, and confused the Egyptian army. 25He took off their chariot wheels, and they drove them heavily; so that the Egyptians said, “Let’s flee from the face of Israel, for Yahweh fights for them against the Egyptians!” 26Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again on the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.” 27Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it. Yahweh overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 28The waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all Pharaoh’s army that went in after them into the sea. There remained not so much as one of them. 29But the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. 30Thus Yahweh saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31Israel saw the great work which Yahweh did to the Egyptians, and the people feared Yahweh; and they believed in Yahweh, and in his servant Moses.

Waarom hebt gij ons dat gedaan, dat gij ons uit Egypte gevoerd hebt? 12Is dit niet het woord, dat wij in Egypte tot u spraken, zeggende: Houd af van ons, en laat ons de Egyptenaren dienen? Want het ware ons beter geweest de Egyptenaren te dienen, dan in deze woestijn te sterven. 13Doch Mozes zeide tot het volk: Vreest niet, staat vast, en ziet het heil des HEEREN, dat Hij heden aan ulieden doen zal, want de Egyptenaars, die gij heden gezien hebt, zult gij niet weder zien in eeuwigheid. 14De HEERE zal voor ulieden strijden, en gij zult stil zijn. 15Toen zeide de HEERE tot Mozes: Wat roept gij tot Mij? Zeg den kinderen Israels, dat zij voorttrekken. 16En gij, hef uw staf op, en strek uw hand uit over de zee, en klief dezelve, dat de kinderen Israels door het midden der zee gaan op het droge. 17En Ik, zie, Ik zal het hart der Egyptenaren verstokken, dat zij na hen daarin gaan; en Ik zal verheerlijkt worden aan Farao en aan al zijn heir, aan zijn wagenen en aan zijn ruiteren. 18En de Egyptenaars zullen weten, dat Ik de HEERE ben, wanneer Ik verheerlijkt zal worden aan Farao, aan zijn wagenen en aan zijn ruiteren. 19En de Engel Gods, Die voor het heir van Israel ging, vertrok, en ging achter hen; de wolkkolom vertrok ook van hun aangezicht, en stond achter hen. 20En zij kwamen tussen het leger der Egyptenaren, en tussen het leger van Israel; en de wolk was te gelijk duisternis en verlichtte den nacht; zodat de een tot den ander niet naderde den gansen nacht. 21Toen Mozes zijn hand uitstrekte over de zee, zo deed de HEERE de zee weggaan, door een sterken oostenwind, dien gansen nacht, en maakte de zee droog, en de wateren werden gekliefd. 22En de kinderen Israels zijn ingegaan in het midden van de zee, op het droge; en de wateren waren hun een muur, aan hun rechter hand en aan hun linkerhand. 23En de Egyptenaars vervolgden hen, en gingen in, achter hen, al de paarden van Farao, zijn wagenen en zijn ruiteren, in het midden van de zee. 24En het geschiedde in dezelfde morgenwake, dat de HEERE, in de kolom des vuurs en der wolk, zag op het leger der Egyptenaren; en Hij verschrikte het leger der Egyptenaren. 25En Hij stiet de raderen hunner wagenen weg, en deed ze zwaarlijk voortvaren. Toen zeiden de Egyptenaars: Laat ons vlieden van het aangezicht van Israel, want de HEERE strijdt voor hen tegen de Egyptenaars. 26En de HEERE zeide tot Mozes: Strek uw hand uit over de zee, dat de wateren wederkeren over de Egyptenaars, over hun wagenen en over hun ruiters. 27Toen strekte Mozes zijn hand uit over de zee; en de zee kwam weder, tegen het naken van den morgenstond, tot haar kracht; en de Egyptenaars vluchtten die tegemoet; en de HEERE stortte de Egyptenaars in het midden der zee. 28Want als de wateren wederkeerden, zo bedekten zij de wagenen en de ruiters van het ganse heir van Farao, dat hen nagevolgd was in de zee; er bleef niet een van hen over. 29Maar de kinderen Israels gingen op het droge, in het midden der zee; en de wateren waren hun een muur, aan hun rechter hand en aan hun linkerhand. 30Alzo verloste de HEERE Israel aan dien dag uit de hand der Egyptenaren; en Israel zag de Egyptenaren dood aan den oever der zee. 31Ook zag Israel de grote hand, die de HEERE aan de Egyptenaren bewezen had; en het volk vreesde den HEERE, en geloofde in den HEERE, en aan Mozes, Zijn knecht.
